Writing Notes: Outline
Tumblr media
Outline - a skeletal representation of the sequence of the main ideas in your essay.
The sequence of ideas/topics also serves as a guide for the reader(s) of your paper.
2 Purposes of an Outline
For You as a Writer (this is the “working outline”)
You may draft a working outline in order to organize the sections of your paper as you list the major ideas/topics you plan to discuss.
You may add minor topics and supporting details as your research continues.
In the research and drafting processes, you may need to revise the information included in your working outline as new information comes to light.
For Your Instructor (this is the “final outline”)
The most important aspect of the final outline is that it is truly representative of your actual paper.
If a topic is in your outline but not adequately discussed in your paper, revision is necessary.
To serve as a guide for the reader, the final outline must accurately reflect the content of your paper.
About the Working Outline
The working outline does not need to be written in any specific format.
It is for your own use, an informal rough draft of tentative information that you may use or discard later.
You may write a working outline in whatever form seems most helpful for you.
By the time you have finished your research and begun your paper, you should have a nearly complete outline to edit and use as your final outline.
About the Formal Outline
The standard format for a formal outline includes large Roman numerals for the main headings, capital letters for subtopics and Arabic numerals for the sub-subtopics.
To find specific information regarding correct spacing and alignment, consult your university's handbook.
Example
OUTLINE
Thesis Statement: There are benefits as well as drawbacks to purchasing a home.
I. Benefits of purchasing a home
A. Financial investment B. Personal privacy
II. Drawbacks to purchasing a home
A. Financial commitment B. Costly maintenance
Things to Consider About Outlines
Thesis Statement
Most outlines begin with the thesis statement, aligned to the left and placed directly below the heading (Title) of your outline.
Sentence Outline OR Topic Outline
Consistency is the key to writing your outline.
If your outline is in sentence form, all parts of it (major topics, minor topics, supporting details) must be in sentence form.
If your outline is written in words, and phrases, all of it must be in that form.
The main point to remember is that your outline will be one or the other, all sentences or all words and phrases, not a combination of both.
Paired Headings
If you have a I., you must have at least a II. If you have an A., you must have a B.
If you have a 1., you must have a 2.
There is never a division without at least two headings, although you may have several more than two.
Comparable Numerals or Letters
Like headings are also of equal significance to your paper.
The B or C following an A is of comparable importance to the A.
If the paired headings do not seem aligned, one being a minor point and the other a major area of discussion, you may need to move headings and subheadings around in the working outline to create smooth transition of ideas and information.
Coherence
Your outline will reflect the progression of ideas in each section of your paper, from major topics to minor topics to supporting details or further information.
In organizing your outline, you should find that you have grouped topics in a logical order, and you will be able to see at a glance if you have done so.

Piggybacking on one of your recent posts, they did worse than just give The Guide nothing to do and the MAGA speech, they turned her into a prop for the needs of male characters.
That was her entire purpose.
Offering insight about Nandor and his romance struggles and being a love interest for Nandor to underscore that if The Powers That Be wanted Nandor to be physically attracted to Guillermo and making intended, overt romantic statements, he would be acting towards him as he does The Guide, but he doesn't, so get your minds out of the gutter, their love is more profound than that.
Then because the Monster is horny, all of the vampires INCLUDING NADJA are completely okay with decapitating The Guide - A FELLOW SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS OLD VAMPIRE - with or without her consent, and attach it to a frankenbody to be the Monster's sex doll.
Lazslo literally sneaks up on her with an electric saw.
That was it. We never saw her actually working with Jerry, just blink and you miss it moments.
(Also please try to imagine Season 1-2 Nadja, who actually cared about other women who were being shat on enough to turn her into her baby vamp and take her under her wing reacting like this and tell me her character hasn't been assassinated and that this show didn't fly off the rails.)
Wow, never gave the Guide that much thought (mostly BECAUSE THE WRITERS DON'T EITHER) but now I'm so viscerally pissed about it. You're 100% right. I mean, don't quote me on this, but this show got so distasteful regarding women and minorities when SF (a woman of color, btw) became less involved and left. She was still around in season 4 but didn't even write an ep, and mind you, up until that point, her eps were the only ones where Nandor stated the possibility of the love of his life being a man, after being confirmed multisexual for a while.
Marwa should've been a guywife and this is the hill I'm dying on. You can't make a middle eastern man take a middle eastern woman's agency away and ultimately turn her into a white man. The implications are unfortunate to say the least. Like, they were smart enough to have Guillermo be a man even when making him a woman was considered too (can you imagine having a Latina as a mistreated servant to a middle eastern man? The way that would've offended everyone lmao). This is such a gross and easily avoidable oversight, YOU LITERALLY GAVE THE DUDE MALE SPOUSES
Also comparing a brown man to an orc AND NOT SUBVERTING IT in the subversive show (I was so sure they were going to reveal the orcs were actually super hot at the end, because that's what early seasons would do). Just the fat jokes last season and the obsession with making it clear again and again that Guillermo is not wanted sexually by anyone in the horny monster society. I know the fandom thinks everyone's all over him but I genuinely believe this is collective delusion (affectionate) or fanfic brain because I can't remember any of this being backed by canon aside from the Guide's crush (also ftm sexual harassment is funny, I guess). Please correct me if I'm wrong. They changed their tune so many times it's hard to keep track.
Like, not to be that friend that's too woke, but when you have a diverse cast (except for black folks smh, though I'm glad they never went there) you need to be a bit more careful and responsible with what you put in their mouths. Come on!
Went on a bit of a tangent, sorry. My heart breaks for Kristen. Good for that main cast paycheck, but imagine having your character become a regular just for it to... Not be a regular? And be disrespected every second it's around without a satisfying conclusion? They seemed to understand back in the day that seeing a character be exaggeratedly mistreated constantly is only funny for a while, but they forgot, both with her and Guillermo.
I never liked the Guide. I found her entertaining on her first appearances but thought she changed the general feel of the comedy a little too much. To be honest, I always found it hard to care about her and Nadja, because the writers themselves never seemed that interested in them. But this is so annoying and makes me want to write sapphic fixits lmao

Hunter x Hunter 407 commentary and pseudoanalysis
It's ambiguous whether Morena has chosen Borksen because she is the specialist Dogman was looking for or because of her connection to Tserriednich (and she has a plan to kill him that needs her in particular or anyone within that group of friends).
The latter is much more likely, though. Remember that in chapter 394, Morena talks about ‘recruiting’ one of Tserri's personal guards. We don't know if she has already succeeded, but recruiting one of her childhood friends as well makes sense given that context.
Tumblr media
In any case, Morena's request is, of course, that Borksen joins her and becomes part of Contagion (unless Borksen's last card is a ‘no’, in which case the request will simply be the opposite, so as to end with the same result), but it will certainly be deeper than that.
Borksen is like a ‘matching organ donor’, so either her nen type or her particular conditions will serve a hyper-specific niche that Morena needs for her plan (which we don't know in detail yet).
Tumblr media
It is impossible to deny the subtext in the concept of the card game, which also aligns with that of Morena's abilities and backstory. Morena is Nasubi's bastard daughter, and it's clear that that is what has caused all the pain she has suffered since her conception, and has also shaped her role in life (she would not be leader of Heil-Ly otherwise, as the leaders of the three Kakin mafias are, by tradition, the king's bastard children). In the card game, there's a ‘parent’ role and a ‘child’ role, and they must face each other in a very specific way. Lines of dialogue such as these, which on a completely literal level allude exclusively to the game, are no coincidence either:
Tumblr media
Her own Hatsu, Contagion, also has a certain parental aspect to it. After all, its use is to give skills to her followers and guide them through the process of growth.
The same can be said about the line "I am my own subject".
Tumblr media
It's a grammatical clarification, the purpose of which -at face value- is to provide a consistent way of dealing with double negations during the game. However, it is also a statement of her intentions as a person. And this, again, is reflected in her Hatsu: Morena is a part of Contagion and levels up like everyone else, so she's literally her own subject.
Regarding the whole grammatical discussion, this resource I found on Reddit helps to understand why it was so important to establish a standardised type of response to negative questions (TLDR; how to answer them is more ambiguous in japanese than in other languages):
Tumblr media
Another interaction that I find interesting is the one where Borksen thinks ‘What in the world is she so angry about?’, while Morena's expression is a smile, implying that Borksen is able to see through Morena's artificial facade and her feelings are transparent to her.
Tumblr media
This is easily justified when rereading chapter 394, where Borksen has exactly the same habit of trying to camouflage her feelings with a fake smile (although she doesn't do it much, and she is, in fact, very expressive otherwise).
Tumblr media
All of that aside, the idea of using a card game to ration exposition about Morena and her intentions while creating a tense situation, adding variety with something different to the fights we've been seeing and exploring the themes of the arc is simply superb. The very development of the showdown itself is guaranteed to have a level of mind games similar to what we've seen in battles like Chrollo VS Hisoka. Togashi will also be highly motivated to write it, as he himself has expressed before how much he enjoys creating card and board games:
Tumblr media
He also made the ‘Hunter Exam Marathon Hell’ mini board game when Greed Island was published. And in the 2016 interview with Kishimoto, he said that one of his ideas after finishing Hunter x Hunter was to make a card fighting series (he also mentioned his admiration for Fukumoto, author of Kaiji).
As for what to expect future chapters, the room they are in is the same room Nobunaga and Hinrigh saw in chapter 399. This is evident if we compare this panel from chapter 407 (left) with the one from 399 (right):
Tumblr media
Based on this, we can assume that Phinks and Feitan will eventually break into the room, although not necessarily during the game. This is possibly what Morena is alluding to when she reiterates that the longer the situation goes on, ‘the more dangerous it will be for both sides’:
Tumblr media
Morena knows this because, as the previous chapter already established, Wang (Cha-R's underboss) is a traitor, and he must have been giving her information about the Spider's actions this whole time.
I hope that the next chapter will be the game itself. We've had several chapters now where each one is a change of scene rather than a direct continuation of the previous one (although they do expand situations presented in the previous chapter), but a scene change now would make me a bit sad. I'm very hyped for the card game, to be honest.

🍓 for the writer ask!
Writers Truth & Dare Ask Game
🍓 how did you get into writing fanfiction?
On 21st December 1981 I stared at the television screen on which Paul Darrow had just grinned Avon's last grin, and credits were rolling and the theme music was playing, and I had just seen Blake and Vila and Dayna and Tarrant and Soolin all die, and I was - in shock, I guess, is one way to put it. I was overwhelmed and horrified and sad and shocked. I'd loved these people, I'd followed them on TV for years, and now they were dead, and there was literally no one in my known universe to whom I could explain what had just happened to me: the fourth season of Blake's 7 had just ended in the most shattering way possible.
Every single one of the "fifth season" and "Avon shot the clone", and other "here's how at least some of them survived" explanations was in the future. None of my family had even been in the room where I was watching. None of them were fans, in the sense I came later to understand the word. Even if I said "I am sad because everyone I loved in Blake's 7 is dead" they wouldn't have understood how devastated I felt. So I wrote about how I felt, at length, in the journals I kept then - hardback notebooks, handwritten. I have terrible handwriting. It was worse then. Less than a year before this happened to me, I had decided I was going to begin to fulfil an ambition I'd had from early childhood and become a writer. My first novel was entirely handwritten and exists only in hardback notebooks. It had, as I recall, a hero who fought villains with a sword and looked very dashing in a cloak and rode cat-horses with expert skill. (I liked both cats and horses, so naturally, my hero rode an alien creature which partook of both.)
In the 18 months or so after this happened to me, while I had embarked on my second novel, which was typed, and was about a group of mad scientists solving an archaeological mystery, and would probably have been better if I'd known more about either mad scientists or archaeology or even, dare I say it, both? I found myself playing with ideas about another Blake's 7 story. Except the series was definitively over, there would never be another episode, so what was the point?
Well, I looked up how to write an episode script and found a bit about it and then just winged it and wrote an episode of Blake's 7 where a mysterious alien kidnaps crew and ship for mysterious purposes - I had a lot of fun writing Enigmatic Dialogue - and for the first time I my life, I typed up my story with a carbon copy and sent the story to the BBC. I don't know what I hoped for, but as I didn't know enough to include return postage or a cover letter, what I imagine happened is that someone looked at the typescript, shrugged, and binned it. (Had I included a cover letter explaining how old I was and how much I'd loved Blake's 7, I'd have probably got a nice letter back from whoever at the BBC had the job of writing nice letters to teenage fans of defunct series.) And then, one day in 1983, I was in the Science-Fiction Bookshop in Edinburgh (that was what it was called, yes, and yes, it was also the only science-fiction bookshop in Edinburgh) and I found a book called Blake's 7: The Programme Guide. I bought it, somehow. It was, to me in those days, pretty expensive. In the back of the book there were addresses of fan organisations, to wich you could write, and if you enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope and a postal order, they would write back. With fannish newsletters, which was initially all I was looking for: other people who felt about Blake's 7 the way I did! Except, as I found when I read the fannish newsletters, there was a thing called fanfiction. There were people who were writing Blake's 7 stories. And they were being published, in fanzines. I could, with a postal order and sometimes a completely misleading statement that I was over 21, have these fanzines posted to me. And, which I will not pretend was not an economic impetus for writing fanfic throughout the years of fanzines, if I wrote a story which they published in their fanzine, I got a free copy. And then when I was 17 (I had figured out about being a lesbian) I went to my first queer youth group and met RiK who loaned me Marion Zimmer Bradley novels, and met Ajay who loaned me K/S (I had found out that the stories I particularly liked were called "slash") and she wanted to read all of the slash I ever wrote (she still does). RiK and Ajay and I are still friends, though all of this was 40+ years ago - there are no friends like your first queer friends from your first queer fannish group. And that's how I got into writing fanfiction.

Hello👋 I hope you're doing well) if the requests are still open, can you write something for the Emperor of Mankind? đŸ€ A soft Yandere with the reader psyker eternal. He does not like when anyone other than Malcador and the Custodians communicate with her, even the primarchs saw her only fleetingly at celebrations. But the reader is completely satisfied with everything. She can do her favorite things and not worry about anything. DreamđŸ„°
The description of the Emperor here is quite vague because I like the way he is portrayed through others's POV. But here we are.
You gazed into the dying embers of the fire, listening to the familiar sounds of your chamber settling into nightly slumber around you. Another day had drawn to a close within the confines of the Imperial Palace, but not for you.
Not yet.
You rose and drifted to the window, looking out upon the sprawling expanse of the Terra below. Lights in thousands of windows flickered like distant stars, whole hive districts darkened as the citizens within their live. All throughout the realm, lives wound down in preparation for the coming dawn.
All except you, it seemed. Not until he came.
As always, your thoughts turned inevitably to him. The gilded cage he had granted you so long ago, this place that served now as your one and onlyhome, however grand. A sanctuary from the cruel outside world, and yet, a prison nonetheless.
His sanctuary. His prison. His
 everything.
Always he came to you here at night's deepest hour, even his Custodes can't come here. When the shadows within shadows held dominion and privacy was assured. That was when he would emerge like a wraith to steal what moments he could find in your company, before withdrawing back into the places from whence he came.
The routine had repeated for centuries unchanging. Long ago you had ceased to question its purpose or meaning. It simply was as immutable. Their tryst formed one more link in the chain binding your existence to his in servitude.
Tomorrow, as always, you would see him withdraw once more into isolation, leaving you to continue existing at the periphery, useful, beloved, and ultimately powerless. Another day would pass, and another, each one leading you gradually further from the life you had known outside these walls. From the dreams, ambitions, and connections of your former self.
Until at last even memory itself began to fade like mist beneath the dawn. Only he remained, constant as the Star to guide you remaining years. Your Emperor. Your Master of Mankind. Your God.
His coming disrupted your musings, as inevitable as the tides. You sensed the stirring in the aether that preceded his physical arrival, the subtle bending of probabilities and skein of fate. A shiver traced its way down your spine in premonition.
Turning, you beheld him emerging from a fold in reality itself. Golden light spilled through the rent as he stepped free, severing the passageway behind with a negligent wave. Clad as ever in gold, eyes gleaming like twin suns beneath his ornate armor, he commanded the room utterly.
A god made from a human. Destined to rule all, whether worshipped or reviled. Yours, eternally.
"My dearest." His voice enfolded you, smooth as fine wine yet bearing weight of aeons. "You await me still."
A statement, not a question. He knew as well as you the path each night would take, the steps they must dance through countless repetitions. And the ritual brought them comfort, as all such familiar routines do in a chaotic universe.
You inclined your head. "Always, my lord."
Crossing to your side, he lifted a hand to cradle your cheek, a lover's caress from one who spurned all other connection or weakness. For him there was only duty. Only for you.
You leaned into his touch with a soft sigh, closing your eyes the better to engrave this fleeting instant of intimacy upon your memories. Savoring each sensation as though it were their last, though repetition had dulled the keen edge of uncertainty long ago.
Your Emperor. Your constant. Your prison. Your everything.

Guide to Semi-Colons
Yesterday I posted Advice on Writing. It’s extremely high-level and generalized; helpful to a person who really wants to know how to get started on getting better, but less so to the writer who’s already well on their journey. Today I’m going to get extremely specific, and talk about how to use semi-colons, because I fucking love semi-colons.
The semi-colon (or semicolon, if you’re writing in American) is quite possibly my favourite punctuation mark. I use it more than any writer of my acquaintance.
(Yes, I do understand exactly what flavour of complete nerd I need to be in order to value semi-colons so highly and in fact to have a favourite punctuation mark in the first place.)
Disclaimer: This only covers how punctuation is used in English, in prose. It does not cover programming, math and logic, academic citations, or any other edge case you’re about to come at me with. By necessity, this guide will also touch on commas and colons because they all serve similar functions and are frequently confused.
What is a semi-colon? What’s it for?
A semi-colon (;) is a combination of a colon (:) and a comma (,). It exists to link two independent sentence clauses together. This differs from the comma, which exists to link dependent sentence clauses to their parent independent clause.
What the fuck is a sentence clause?
Okay, let’s back it up. A sentence clause is your basic simple sentence.
“I’m wearing a red shirt.” This is a single thought, a complete sentence. Subject, verb, object. You, the speaker, are wearing your red shirt, full stop. This is your independent clause. It stands alone, requiring no previous information.
Let’s give it a dependent clause.
“I’m wearing a red shirt. It’s itchy.” It’s itchy is your dependent clause. While this can be two separate sentences and stay readable, the statement “It’s itchy” is meaningless without the information that you’re wearing the red shirt. If “It’s itchy.” gets too far away from “I’m wearing a red shirt.” on your page, it’s quite possible your reader will have no idea what’s itching.
“I’m wearing a red shirt, it’s itchy.” Ta-da! Comma links dependent clause to independent clause, reader is safe in their understanding that itchy is in fact referring to the red shirt.
Now we’re going to work in a semi-colon. Back to our independent clause.
“I’m wearing a red shirt.” Once again, a complete sentence. It can stand on its own. But it’s still itchy, and you think it’s the red dye’s fault.
“I’m wearing a red shirt; I think I might be allergic to the dye in this fabric.” What just happened?
You went on a tangent! “I think I might be allergic to the dye in this fabric.” is another independent clause, but it’s still closely related to the sentence before it. It’s not meaningless on its own like “It’s itchy.” would be, but it’s definitely referring back to “I’m wearing a red shirt.”
You have probably seen commas used to do this! It’s what’s known as a ‘comma splice’, using a comma to link two independent clauses. It’s considered incorrect in formal English writing. It can be used as a stylistic choice in less formal writing or fiction, but it’s something you should be doing with intention, to highlight a contrast of ideas or give a feeling of speed or abruptness, not because you don’t have another tool to take control of this runon sentence.
The semi-colon’s primary purpose is to take an idea on a tangent, without changing the subject completely. It’s the punctuation equivalent of “That makes me think of – “ or “Wait, hear me out.”
But wait, isn’t that what colons do?
Not quite. A colon is for drilling down on an idea: adding more detail to clarify or expand.
For example, coming back to our red shirt:
“I’m wearing a red shirt: it’s in honour of the security guards on Star Trek.” (and probably still itchy)
This example uses a colon because not only is “it’s in honour of the security guards on Star Trek.” a dependent clause, it adds additional information to the independent clause.
For a really quick and dirty aide-memoire:
Semi-colons can be used where someone might say “And also –” or “Which makes me think of –” (or to replace a parenthetical aside like this one)
Commas can be used where someone might say “And –”, “But –” or “So –” (or in cases of dialogue, just pause for breath)
Colons can be used where someone might say “Because –” or “To be more specific –” or "For example –”
Or, to make an unwieldy and possibly unhelpful metaphor: if your sentence is a house, the comma leads to your attached garage, the colon leads to the rooms inside the house, and the semi-colon is the winding path through your garden. Your garage can be made to stand independently with some extra work, your garden would be fine if your house disappeared, but the presence of your house is what gives it context, and the rooms would, of course, cease to exist in the absence of house.
These marks are not interchangeable, but they do serve similar functions. Most sentences that use these punctuation marks can be rearranged or rewritten to use one of the other two, or as one or more independent sentences without too much contortion.
“I’m wearing a red shirt that is itchy.”
“I’m wearing a red shirt because it’s Star Trek day.”
“This shirt is itching the hell out of me. I think I’m allergic to the red dye.”
“I love old Star Trek, so I’m wearing my red shirt.”
“Those poor redshirts; I’m wearing this in honour of them. Itches like hell though.”
Do you need to use semi-colons? No, not at all! (Unless you’re writing in academia or some other context that follows a style guide, in which case your style guide will tell you exactly how they should used and you can ignore me.) But they are another implement in a writer’s toolbox, patiently waiting for the day that you really don’t want to end a sentence but that comma just doesn’t look right.
Further resources on my favourite punctuation marks:
For Love of the Semicolon – Insights to English
Using Semicolons – The Writing Center – UW–Madison (wisc.edu)
Colons - Punctuation - Academic Guides at Walden University
Harry Potter’s World Wide Influence - Google Books - this is an essay on comma splices, using Harry Potter as an example (sorry about that). It starts out very prescriptivist (also sorry about that), but is an excellent analysis of why comma splices are considered incorrect, and also why you might choose to use them anyways.
Confused and/or angry? Excited to talk to me about Oxford Commas and unnumbered lists? Really want to hear my thoughts on [insert thing here]? Send me an ask!

An Overdue Rant and a Christmas Fic
I wrote this Hallmark AU last December. It was supposed to be a jokey little one-shot, but man it ate my brain. My average daily word count is 500-1k words a day, and I think I was doing 2k to 5k a day until it was done. I couldn't fuckin stop, and it was glorious.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/43616245/chapters/109670092
This is very important to me, because I came to fanfic like a dying traveler comes to an oasis. After the pandemic I became deeply depressed and I developed chronic writer's block. Marketing was an uphill slog, and not being able to go out and socialize at events made it unbearable. When I did go out, the anxiety I felt about COVID made it not fun. I wasn't sure if I was ever going to write again.
Writing fanfiction was a welcome reprieve from all that: no deadlines! No SEO! No depressingly tiny royalty statements! Positive reinforcement with no dollar signs attached! So it was nice, it was fun, but I didn't really get my groove back until I wrote HallMark. That wasn't just fun. That was drive. That was passion. And it was glorious.
After it was done and posted, I couldn't forget about it. I had to know what it was about that story that grabbed me by the brain cells like that. So I went back and read it again, and I read the comments (thank you all kind people you're the best), and I realized that it was about Aziraphale and Crowley, but it was really about my feelings towards how children are raised.
*I'm not going to completely spoil the fic here, but feel free to go read it before we get further bc I'm about to discuss some thematic elements.*
Crowley is raising the Antichrist to be the destroyer of worlds on the surface, but underneath it he cares about the world, and he cares about Adam too. And that is the side of him that Adam responds to, and why he turns out the way he does. And that's what parents don't understand about children. They are only kind of listening to your words. What they respond to, and what nurtures them, is your behavior towards them and towards the world you're raising them in. If you tell your kid that Jesus loves everyone and we should help the poor, but you vote for people who will cut welfare bc you think you'll get a tax break and a new boat, your kid sees you. If you tell your kid that it's a sin to judge others but you glare at a tall woman going into the ladies room bc you think she might be trans, your kid sees you. They might grow up to be an asshole or they might grow up to think that you're one, but either way you lose.
And if you tell your kid that his destiny is to destroy the world and that living things are fit only to be ground under his heels, but you make him sandwiches and worry about him when he's out of your sight and buy him stupid Christmas crap because it makes him happy, your kid might not turn out as evil as you thought.
(don't actually tell your kid he's the Antichrist, btw, this fic is hyperbole for symbolic thematic purposes and not a parenting guide)
Anyway, my point is if you love your kid and treat him right, if you treat other people right, and give him a stable home and maybe a dog if you can afford it, he'll probably turn out pretty much okay. The rest is just flavor.
Parents stress too much about things that don't matter, but it's not our fault. You have to run the gauntlet a couple of times before you can filter out stuff that matters from stuff that doesn't, because the books and guides and parenting classes will just try to scare you about everything. Let me assure you that your baby does not give two shits if you feed with breast or bottle. But your child will remember whether you were happy, and whether you took pleasure in their presence in your life.
So what sucked me in about this fic was the reversal of what I've seen in the real world. My brain conjured a fantasy of someone who's a good parent despite themselves, instead of a bad parent with a church habit and a fat bank account. Of course I had to bring that fantasy into the world. It's how things become real.

Understanding the Difference Between a Website and a Web Page: A Complete Guide
Understanding the Difference Between a Website and a Web Page: A Complete Guide
In today’s digital landscape, terms like website and web page are used interchangeably, often causing confusion among businesses and individuals seeking an online presence. However, as a business owner or a digital marketer, understanding the difference is essential for creating an impactful online strategy.
At KSoft Technologies, where we specialize in website development, digital marketing, and SEO services, we often encounter this question from clients. This guide not only simplifies the distinction between a website and a web page but also explores their technical aspects and how they align with your business goals.
What is a Website?
A website is a collection of interlinked web pages hosted under a single domain name, designed to serve a specific purpose. Think of it as a digital storefront or an online hub that provides a comprehensive experience to users. Websites can vary significantly based on their type and functionality:
Corporate Websites Ideal for businesses aiming to showcase their products, services, and achievements. For example, the KSoft Technologies website highlights our expertise in areas like SEO, app development, and web design.
E-Commerce Websites Platforms like Amazon or Shopify allow businesses to sell products directly to customers. These websites integrate payment gateways, inventory management systems, and customer service functionalities.
Portfolio Websites Focused on showcasing individual or business achievements, these websites are ideal for freelancers or creative professionals.
Landing Pages Dedicated pages within a website that focus on lead generation and conversions, often used in digital marketing campaigns.
Blogs and Forums Content-centric websites aimed at providing information, engaging with communities, or building authority in a niche.
Technical Structure of a Website
A website comprises:
Domain Name: The unique address users type in to access the site (e.g., ksofttechnologies.com).
Hosting Server: Where all the data and files of the website are stored.
Content Management System (CMS): Tools like WordPress or Joomla that allow users to create and manage content.
Backend and Frontend: The backend involves server-side scripting (e.g., PHP, Python), while the frontend includes design elements (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
What is a Web Page?
A web page is a single document within a website, identifiable by its unique URL. For example, on ksofttechnologies.com, the “Contact Us” page or “Services” page is a web page.
Types of Web Pages
Static Pages Content remains the same unless manually updated. They’re ideal for information like company profiles or mission statements.
Dynamic Pages Content is fetched from a database and changes based on user interaction. Examples include dashboards or search results pages.
Landing Pages Specifically designed for marketing campaigns, focusing on a single product, service, or call to action.
Blog Posts Individual articles or write-ups focused on specific topics within a blog section of a website.
Technical Structure of a Web Page
Each web page includes:
URL Structure: For example, https://ksofttechnologies.com/services.
HTML Markup: Defines the structure and content of the page.
CSS and JavaScript: For styling and functionality.
Metadata: Helps search engines understand the page content.
Key Differences Between a Website and a Web Page
 Definition
Website: A collection of multiple interlinked web pages.
Web Page: A single document within a website.
Scope
Website: Broader; provides comprehensive information or services.
Web Page: Narrower; focuses on a specific topic or purpose.
 URL
Website: Main domain name (e.g., ksofttechnologies.com).
Web Page: A subset URL (e.g., /services, /about-us).
 Interactivity
Website: Enables complex user interactions.
Web Page: May have limited or single-point interactions.
 Purpose
Website: Serves as the entire digital presence.
Web Page: Addresses a specific intent or question.
How Websites and Web Pages Work Together
To draw an analogy, a website is like a library, while web pages are the individual books or chapters within it. Each web page serves a specific purpose and contributes to the overall functionality of the website.
Example from KSoft Technologies
Website Level: Visitors land on ksofttechnologies.com, where they see an overview of our services like web development, app design, and SEO consulting.
Web Page Level: When they click on "Digital Marketing," they are directed to a dedicated page detailing our strategies, success stories, and packages.
Why Understanding the Difference Matters
For businesses, distinguishing between a website and a web page is crucial for:
Better SEO Strategy Search engines like Google evaluate websites and individual web pages differently. Optimizing individual pages for keywords (e.g., “website development services”) improves rankings and traffic.
User Experience Creating well-structured websites and easy-to-navigate web pages ensures a seamless user journey.
Content Strategy Knowing the role of each web page within your website helps in creating targeted and engaging content.
SEO Best Practices for Websites and Web Pages
Keyword Optimization Include relevant keywords like “website development,” “SEO services,” and “digital marketing agency” in titles, headings, and content.
Internal Linking Link related web pages within your website to improve navigation and reduce bounce rates.
Responsive Design Ensure your website and all web pages are optimized for mobile devices.
Page Load Speed Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to identify and fix issues.
Content Quality Provide valuable and actionable content for visitors, such as this guide explaining technical concepts.
How KSoft Technologies Can Help

Website Design and Development: Tailored to your brand and business goals.
SEO Services: Ensuring your web pages rank high for targeted keywords.
Content Strategy: Helping you create engaging, keyword-rich content for better rankings and user retention.
Conclusion
While a website is the broader digital presence, web pages are its building blocks. Understanding the distinction between the two helps in planning and executing a robust online strategy. By leveraging the expertise of KSoft Technologies, you can ensure that your website and web pages work seamlessly to drive traffic, generate leads, and grow your business.

Dos and Don`ts of Thesis Writing
Dos and Don'ts of Thesis Writing
Writing a thesis is undoubtedly one of the toughest assignments a student has to face. It requires dedication, careful planning, and an understanding of academic standards. A well-written thesis reflects not only your hard work but also serves as a valuable contribution to your field. Here are some essential dos and don'ts to guide you through the thesis writing process.
To DO: Make a research and writing timeline
Thesis writing is quite extensive, involved researching, drafting, revising, and formatting. Start by laying down your timeline to set a calendar for each phase of the work. Allocate time for researching, the time taken while writing each section, and revising your content. This can help the project stay on track as the workload is divided into small tasks that have deadlines. Anyway, do not forget that there will be setbacks, and allow some time for those as well.
Don't: Procrastinate
While procrastination is the arch-nemesis of a well-written thesis, putting off research or writing until the last minute can lead to undue stress and often produces poor quality work. Conversely, work steadily over the long haul and treat your thesis work with the same respect you would any important assignment. Set small, achievable goals each week for steady advancement.
**Do: Conduct Complete Research
A good thesis should be supported with a good amount of research. Sufficient and diversified sources, such as books, journal articles, and respectable online databases, must be consulted to avoid any confusion later. Record your findings and categorize them to avoid misunderstandings later on. Keeping a research journal or database will help you track references and relevant ideas. Ensure that you gather contemporary information, as it builds strength to your argument and credibility to your work as well.
Avoid: Substituting with Unverified Sources
The internet has large amounts of information; however, not all sources are credible. In fact, it is best to stay away from websites and articles without credible authors, dates, or citations. Stay strictly with credible sources: academic journals, books, and official reports. Unreliable sources can weaken your thesis, while bad references usually detract from the researcher's credibility.
**Do: Craft a Good Thesis Statement
The thesis statement is the backbone of your work. It should clearly state the purpose of your study and present your main argument succinctly. Take as much time as it takes to come up with a thesis statement that is specific, arguable, and supported by evidence. Your statement will guide the framework and content of your thesis so ensure it's well thought out and defensible. Summary
Don't Be Vague or Ambiguous
A vague thesis statement often leads to confusion and a lack of focus in your work. Refrain from vague words or too broad topics that cannot be discussed in detail. A narrow, specific statement lets you have a well-organized and coherent argument. If you have trouble with clarity, ask a professor or peer to give you feedback.
An outline is like a road map that gives you your thesis. Organizing the structure beforehand makes sure your ideas flow coherently. This can include sections like an introduction, literature review, methodology, results, and conclusion. All of them should support your thesis statement and make for a cohesive narrative. Doing this can save you a lot of time when writing because it really serves as a clear outline to follow.
Don't: Write Without a Plan
The unstructured essay is typically disjointed or redundant in the thesis. One can really waste all this effort on ideas, then once pressed for coherence, he already jumped and can't get back into place. Be flexible to change your outline for a better one as your work goes along. Also, steer clear of tangential information that will only confuse you by not steering your thesis statement straight.
Do: Obey the Relevant Guidelines of Formatting Requirements
Most of the academic institutions have their specific requirements for thesis submission; discuss them with your thesis committee. Read and review these requirements meticulously even months before you submit it. Be particular about aspects such as citation style, layout of pages, font size, and margins. Tools or software for citation usually facilitate this process, so you don't have to worry about mistakes in citation.
Formatting appropriately shows that you are professional and fussy about details.
Do Not: Skip the Editing and Proofreading Stage
Grammar, spelling, and formatting errors will undercut even the best of you. After you've created a first draft, invest in time to read it back and edit your material for egregious inconsistencies in argumentation, so references are referenced correctly. You could consult with a peer, a professor, or professional editor; they may find things that you didn't. .
Ensure that the entire thesis is written in a consistent academic tone. Avoid using colloquial words but be clear and simple in your language. Consistency in style as well as tone adds fluency and credibility to work. In addition, use active voice wherever possible because this is stronger and more direct in writing.
Don't: Plagiarize
Academic writing is very serious about plagiarism issues. Therefore, never forget to properly cite the source to avoid committing accidental plagiarism. When you have borrowed someone else's ideas or theories or research, give proper credit to them. Plagiarism detection tools are useful to detect whether your work is original or not.
Conclusion
A thesis is excellent academic work that includes preparation, research, and writing. The dos and don'ts discussed above will help you design a well-stratified, credible, and engaging thesis paper. So, embrace the process with patience, sound organization, and be less hesitant to seek guidance if necessary. A well-prepared thesis not only brings in elements of successful academics but also is a good reward in researching and writing.

A well-written SOP can significantly improve your chances of visa approval by presenting you as a genuine and goal-oriented student.

Family responsibilities

Tips for Writing an Effective SOP
Be honest – Don’t exaggerate or include false information.
Use clear, simple English – Avoid jargon or overly complex language.
Stay focused – Don’t go off-topic or add unnecessary personal details.
Ideal length – Keep your SOP between 800–1,000 words.
Proofread – Check for grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. Use tools or ask someone to review it.
Conclusion
Your SOP for New Zealand Student Visa is more than just a formality—it’s your personal voice in the visa process. It reflects your ambitions, clarity of thought, and commitment to your education. Take your time, plan your structure, and write with purpose. A well-crafted SOP can be the key that opens the door to your international education journey.
