Chiron is slow moving. When it transits a house it is likely in that house for years. When chiron entered my 7th, many friends began to be openly aggressive and jealous of me. This was the first year chiron was in my 7th, the years after (it is still there) I am very careful with who I let into my circle.

pile one, with the page of pentacles i'm seeing that this will affect you academically or or career wise. you will feel a spring of inspiration for learning things. if you've been procrastinating tasks or studying, you will experience a refreshing perspective on studying and completing tasks. you will identify your end goals, gain clarity on your manifestations. it could be a project also, or a hobby. something you've had in mind for a long time but just pushed the thought away. you keep saying i'll do it eventually but that hasn't happened yet. with this conjunction, you will shift from thought to action, you may even be starting something entirely new, but it does feel like learning and education is involved. you want success in the long term and you will realise the steps you need to take to achieve that. the shift the conjunction will bring you will push you towards reaching your goals through learning and motivation, and excitement about education.

Mercury Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn!

On February 10th at 9:03 AM (PST) (And until around February 16th) :

Mercury forms an exact conjunction with Pluto, which will be the last Capricorn conjunction with an outer planet until 2047 - it’s actually the last Capricorn transit by an outer planet, AT ALL, until that year. Pluto aspects can bring intensifying and transformative energies to us, in connection to whatever realm the planets in formation with Pluto rule over. With Mercury the themes correlate to the mind, memory, understandings of how things work, routines and scheduling, social connection and communication, as well as the linear way certain events unfold. Mercury and Pluto together can truly intensify our thoughts, render them heavier, more concerned or fearful, and cause us to feel a stronger desire for answers. Mercury in general is correlated to strategy and linear decision making and as so: certain decisions may be called into question during this aspect.

At the time of this aspect Mercury and Pluto also form a somewhat wide sextile with Neptune, the planet of hazy emotionality, illusions and mystery. This configuration could increase the need for answers, and we may dig down deep into our memory for the solution to big questions in our lives; with Pluto it’s very possible that we actually find them. The theme of social gathering, camaraderie and just the general jiving of human beings with one another is coming up. This is something that can be seen in the transit chart for the aspect as well, when Venus is examined as it connects to Pluto and Mercury via the sextile.) I also see potential for the transfiguration of certain social ties, or the re arranging of values within social groups. The Page of swords shows transformation around thought and developing new insights (very Mercurial as well), while the Ace of Swords shows comparisons between past and future, deciding to embark on new ideas regardless of previous experience and certain illusions around failure. These cards also remind me somehow of fears of failure: not wanting to move for the sake of protecting the status quo or comfort zone, but the time has come regardless: to move on and forge ahead.

Row 2: The 2 of Pentacles (reversed), 4 of Swords, The Devil (reversed), 10 of Wands (reversed)

There can definitely be a possible need for grounding or re-centering in relationships, with power balances or redistribution of energy needing to take place. Things are not evenly attended to when it comes to our social life and there is difficulty with celebration and holding up accomplishments for acclaim, to some degree. Perhaps during the Mercury/Pluto conjunction we will somewhat struggle to clearly see our accomplishments enough to be able to feel victorious.

“Surrender” is something that feels important when looking at this spread. This word keeps coming up a lot lately, and I believe it’s always important. 4 of Pentacles (reversed) represents the natural flow fluctuation of the material world, and how one moment we are on top of everything while the next we are scrambling to make ends meet. There is a message here to release the overwhelming “need to know” what’s going to happen next, and this is a message that aligns perfectly with the Mercury/Pluto conjunction. The Devil (reversed) potentially shows what we need to work on throughout the transit: the releasing of dark, ominous thoughts - especially with the page of swords above it. Recognizing the importance of freedom from habitual patterns and toxic cycles could also be a theme that comes up. This could be a good time to make concrete decisions and take solid steps to get out of certain cyclical/addictive behavior.

With the 10 of wands (reversed) the theme seems to be relinquishing a need to “win at all costs”. Extra accomplishment comes with extra responsibility. There seems to be a pathway that’s not obvious or easy to see, but it’s being traversed all the same. Overall this transit could challenge our perceptions of fairness, our sense of control over our every day lives and social connections, cause us to need to re-evaluate certain treatment in our relationships and bring us to a place of needing to surrender to a less obvious picture of life that is playing out under the surface.

tarot-strology reflections: taurus / scorpio axis in the current sky

today, april 23, the moon will reach fullness in scorpio. directly across the sky, jupiter and uranus are conjunct in taurus for the first time since 1941.

it's time for something to change, for the walls to fall, for the earth to shift. i think about what's happening on american university campuses today: young people refusing to let the machine continue to churn while their money and resources - the domain of taurus's ruler, venus - continue to fund the genocide of palestinians. putting their physical bodies on the line and refusing to be moved. the bull would approve.

i think about the longstanding norms, beliefs, and power structures these students are challenging. their sureness, their conviction. i think about how well they know their history - how it feels in my body to see photos of today's gaza solidarity encampments alongside photos of that same campus filled with anti-war protestors in the 1960s. i think about how little has changed since then.

i think about what could happen if every one of us committed to stubbornness. if we all refused to let the world turn until the war machine ground to a halt. i think about how we are kept in a chokehold by our reliance on capital. how much it would take to overturn the structures that keep us tame. how much we owe it to the people of the world to try anyway.

the knight of wands is a fitting card for this conjunction. he channels energy into action; he sparks life; he drives forward toward change. his downfall, though, is that he can act without thinking, without taking the time to prepare. he can rush in. with mercury still working its way out of retrograde - in aries, no less - you may want to let your seedlings grow just a little bit more before you send them out into the cold world.

then, the ten of wands. in this pair of cards, we can see a crucial moment in the cycle of liberation. the protagonist of the ten of wands has already struggled, already learned, already created the beginning of something beautiful. there's a weariness in this card, a reminder to share the burden. so, the knight takes up the baton, starting the cycle anew. it is his turn to fuel the fire, to drive forward, to carry the mantle of change.

but no one moves alone. the figure in the ten of wands has already come so far and learned so much; the knight can look to them for wisdom, for guidance, for a deeper understanding of the struggles we all face. before he charges forward, it would benefit the knight to know intimately the road that others have already traveled.

and if there's one thing scorpio loves, it's to know. under this full moon, take time to root yourself in the lessons of your predecessors.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT PLUTO?

This series is to further your understanding of Pluto. This will help you to understand Pluto’s characteristic.  

1. Pluto in Mythology 

In mythology, Pluto was the God of the underworld or the afterlife. He was called Hades in Greek mythology. 

Pluto and Hades differ in character, but they are not distinct figures and share two dominant myths. In Greek cosmogony, the god received the rule of the underworld in a three-way division of sovereignty over the world, with his brother Zeus ruling the sky and his other brother Poseidon sovereign over the sea. 

Back to Pluto, Pluto is the child of Saturn and Ops and his siblings are Jupiter, Neptune, Ceres, Juno, and Vesta. Saturn devoured his children because he was told one of them would overthrow him. When Jupiter was born his mother hid him and he eventually triumphed over his father and freed his siblings. In Saturn's defense, he also had a bad relationship with his father. 

2. Pluto in Astrology

Pluto is associated with the shadow side, the underside, and the underworld. Think of when we use the term ‘underworld’ to describe a criminal activity. Fittingly because Pluto does rule criminal activity and what is hidden and secretive.

Therefore, Pluto shows us what is corrupt, usually through an imbalance of power. Pluto shows us the bad side of a good thing. What needs to be changed, and in Pluto’s terms that’s death and rebirth. A complete dismantling and rebuilding. Pluto is drastic and extreme.

They are the epitome of power and control, death and rebirth, and deep transformation. We also associate Pluto with enlightenment and regeneration through the rebirth process. It is about evolving, transcending, and regaining or establishing our power. Not over others but in terms of self. This energy is deeply and profoundly all about the inner self. Pluto shows us what is not working, by showing us the shadow side, wherever it transits. 

There was a pile-up of planets in 2020. Remember the big Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter conjunction, called the Great Conjunction? It was exactly on the winter solstice of December 2020.

Now these planets have slowly pulled apart, creating more distance between them. Jupiter will be ahead, spending only 1 year in each sign. Saturn second, spending 3 years in a sign. Pluto will lag behind Aquarius. This is the feeling that we can breathe easier, and there is less energy concentrated in one place. We are heading for more balance, as opposed to so much concentrated energy in one place. As an astrologer, I prefer this energy. 

Capricorn rules institutions, especially the government and people at the top of the social pyramid. Those with power, wealth, and status. There is a social structure aspect to the 10th house. Who sits at the top and what isn’t working with that system? Where do the power and control lie? Where is the imbalance and how do we change in order to function in a new and better way? That is Pluto’s power and control, death and rebirth, transformation and enlightenment.

Pluto will enter Aquarius on March 23rd, 2023, but move back to Capricorn by June. Can we see some final activity of Pluto in Capricorn as he finishes this transit? Will Pluto end his stay, as he started, with the financial ‘destruction’  we saw in 2008 when he arrived? That was the year of the housing crisis and record numbers of people lost their homes, unable to pay their mortgages. It was called the great recession. Presently, mortgage rates continue to climb and consumer debt increases. Pluto will not be truly out of Capricorn until November 2024, so the lag between increases in rates and its effects remains to be fully seen.

I tend to be confused when astrologers talk about how awful Pluto in Capricorn was but in Aquarius, it will be nirvana. I don’t believe so, we will also see what is not working there, and how we have to do better. There can be an over-structured aspect with Aquarius, rules upon rules. Striving to attain an ideal but ultimately things move further from that ideal situation. There is always a shadow side. Aquarius is about people at the bottom of the Capricornian pyramid. It is very much about equality and fairness. Associated with the 11th house it’s our social side: groups of friends and organizations we belong to, communities, including online.

There’s also a futuristic and technological aspect to Aquarius, whose modern ruler is Uranus. Aquarius is associated with the 11th house of said groups but also hopes and wishes, also termed ‘long term goals’. Overall, Aquarius is about that future vision of what could be. There’s a utopic aspect to this sign. Aquarius is an air sign, so the approach is rational and conceptual.
