Most jobseekers in Ireland say a pet-friendly workplace is more appealing
More than half, or 56%, of jobseekers in Ireland believe that companies that have a pet-friendly policy are more attractive places to work, according to a study by the ISPCA (Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and Mars Petcare. The research also showed that 27% of jobseekers say that a pet-friendly workplace policy would influence their choice of where to work. The jobseekers…

COVID and Your Pet - Published Aug 31, 2024
When you feel sick, it helps to have a sympathetic friend, even if that friend happens to have four legs and a tail. Many of us want to snuggle with our furry friends when we’re not feeling good. It’s also true that most of the ailments that make us sick are not transmissible to our pets. Unfortunately, that may not be true of COVID.
While it is unlikely we can get COVID from our furry friends, new studies have shown that dogs and cats living with COVID-positive humans may have COVID antibodies in their systems, indicating they also had become infected with the virus at some point.
A Dutch study reported that about twenty percent of dogs and cats living in homes with infected humans had contracted COVID. Even though the number of pets reported to be infected with COVID is a relatively small number, and it has not been shown that pets can transmit it to humans, our furry friends can get pretty sick if they develop the disease. It is suspected that close contact between an animal and a human with COVID, such as petting, cuddling, even sleeping with a pet, increases the possibility the animal may become infected.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommendations for pet owners. First every eligible person in the household should be vaccinated. Anyone with COVID should not have contact with a pet, and pet owners should not allow pets to be around any unvaccinated people outside the household.
The CDC also warns not to use chemical disinfectants, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, hand sanitizer, counter-cleaning wipes or other surface cleaners on your pet. If you think your pet may have COVID, do not take it to the veterinary clinic; instead, call your vet for advice on what you need to do.
Keeping your pet safe at home, and away from any family member with COVID symptoms, will help your pet to stay healthy. After all, that's what we do for our best friends, when we’re speaking of pets.

covid and canines
Tumblr media
My mom sent this to me as a text so I don't have a source I'm sorry.
The image above is a blue background infographic that reads:
Covid and canines
key takeaways from the November 2023 study neurologic effects of SARS-CoV-2 2 transmitted among dogs
Canines catch it
all dogs in the trial were infected six were infected by nasal spray
Canines spread it
six dogs were infected via contact ( horizontal spread)
Canines may not show it
all dogs in the study were asymptomatic
Covid causes damage
all dogs in the study had short and longer term brain and lung damage
You can prevent infection
Break the chain
Wear an n95 or a respirator indoors.
Avoid interaction with dogs that are not protected from exposure.
Stay informed, share what you learn.

Donald Trump has never had a high regard for the health or even the lives of his supporters. We recall how he told them to take quack medicines during the pandemic emergency and retweeted anti-mask conspiracy freaks after he horrifically mismanaged the early response to COVID-19 in the US.
To Trump, nothing counts except Trump. His supporters are just disposable pawns in his political, legal, and business struggles.
He demonstrated this again by telling Iowa caucus goers that it's okay if they die — as long as they caucus for him first.
Donald Trump urged voters to get out to the Iowa caucuses even if they are “sick as a dog” in a defiant rally on the eve of his first major election test. The former president said that even if people “passed away” shortly after voting it would be “worth it”, and once again launched attacks on the New York judge who had denied him a delay in his civil trial so that he could attend his mother-in-law’s funeral. His remarks came during an in-person rally in Indianola on Sunday afternoon. Mr Trump was previously forced to swap out other planned events in Iowa with tele-rallies due to severe bad weather conditions in the state. “You can’t stay at home,” he told those gathered. “[Even} if you’re sick as a dog and you say ‘darling I can’t make it…’ “Even if you vote and then pass away it’s worth it.”
It wouldn't be surprising if somebody DID die because they were sick and were told by Trump to caucus for him in sub-zero weather. In Des Moines, not the coldest city in the state, the temperature at 7 PM CST is predicted by the NWS to be -7°F/-22°C. It may be even colder when people are returning home from caucus locations. If you're not in good health, you shouldn't be outside in such conditions.
Despite being a lying gluttonous adulterer who hasn't been to church in decades except for weddings, funerals, and political events, Trump is treated as a god by many nominal Christian fundamentalists. Trump is their Baal.
The only way to counter such irrational fanatics is to outorganize and outvote them. Despite their willingness to die for Trump, they are still a minority. If we remain focused, determined, and (most of all) united, we will fend off the threat to democracy in 2024.

Hi! I hate to have to make a post like this, but I am in some need of assistance. I'm a disabled individual living on VERY limited income and most of my income has been going towards moving expenses as I am leaving this current housing situation in two months. I have already spent most of my paycheck on mailing off valuables to my next location. The next step is to get my furbaby the things he needs to travel comfortably with me.
The goal is to have him with me in the cabin to help not only him, but myself too with my anxiety. It's difficult traveling alone as an autistic individual, so my cat is my best bet in keeping cool without turning to opiates as a one day prescription.
Here is the amazon list, if anyone feels like helping.
And here are a couple photos of Steven hard as a rock Stone. He's a very sweet and loving cat. But, I am in a very poor state financially.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My roommate is not the best and has 'forgotten' about the cash I have given her to purchase specific things for the cats in the house. Instead using that money to buy cigarettes.
While I don't feel comfortable talking about too many details, I can comfortably say I live with a hoarder, that I am blamed for things out of my control ( like the bills she should be paying w my rent ), so on and so forth.
I'm incredibly sorry to ask for this help, but my hands are kind of tied. It's been insanely difficult to get out of an abusive situation while being disabled.

I'm masking up in the house right now because I was exposed to Covid and I don't want to get my roommate sick if I have it.
And my dog doesn't know what to do with my mask.
During the height of the pandemic my partner at the time and I were both in the house 24/7, so I only ever actually wore masks when I went out for grocery runs or to deliver stuff to friends. And the last time I was exposed at work, I lived alone with my dog-- so again, I only wore the mask out of the house.
So my dog is just very confused.
But she makes do.
Since the mask blocks her from licking me on the mouth (her true, if oft-thwarted goal), she's decided to start licking me around all the edges of the mask instead. Particularly my ears and my eyes.
Because she's supportive like that.

There's more to dog boarding than you might think
Travel arrangements: Made. Room: Booked. Dog care: Situated. Or… is it? If all you’ve figured out is who you’re going to call, experts say there may still be a ways to go before you — and/or your dog — are truly well-prepared for boarding. While dog boarding isn’t a new concept, for many dogs and […]

So, I’m gonna ask you (yes YOU the person reading this) to do something. Since the end of the year is getting closer… ReBlog this (or don’t, I can’t really tell you what to do) and write something that your dog, cat, or other pet has done that may have saved your life and/or sanity this year. I’ll go first.
Pet type(s): Dog
Pet name(s): Cedar
Social Media (if any): Instagram (DogOfAllTrees)
What they did: So, this year (2022) around Halloween I finally got COVID-19. Like BAD. I was completely bedridden (and I was fully vaccinated and boosted, except for the latest booster at the time).
Anyway, when I got COVID, I had to isolate for everyone. Nobody could come near me because I was afraid I would infect them. And Cedar-dog was the only living being that could be around me without fear of being infected (I double checked with his vet too, just to make sure he didn’t need to be away from me).
When you’re sick, and you can hardly breathe, and you fall into the high-risk category of people for COVID… it’s really REALLY easy to get lost in your thoughts when you’re trying to fall asleep in the dark at night. Depressing and horrible thoughts about dying. I think Cedar knew I was going through some shit, cause I swear he licked my face over and over again when I was drifting in and out of sleep. He eventually fell asleep next to me on the bed… also woke me up when I was having night terrors during my sickness by licking my face.
People might laugh it off… but I think having Cedar around kept me sane during the isolation period. I think I’d have gone crazy without him. 😓
So, I’ll forever be grateful to this doggo.

Have been careful as all hell, have been vaccinated four times, have never stopped masking, wash my hands like a maniac, and got covid for the first time yesterday 😭 And it has been NOT fun.
(The moral of this is NOT that any of these things are useless- it is actually that you should be doing them still (masking) and often (handwashing) because we owe it as a society to offer protection to the people who are immunocompromised or unable to be vaccinated because that is the POINT OF SOCIETY thanks for coming to my ted talk. Anyways. Scrub your hands for twenty seconds with soap and water. Wear masks in public. Don't go out and do things in public if someone you've spent time with has gotten sick. This is miserable for me and I'm an otherwise healthy woman in her late twenties- be considerate of other people!!!!!)

There is nowhere else I can talk about my life, and I need to get this out.
So my life recently fell apart. To be fair the only thing that had been holding it together was hope and fear.
After I had COVID and anemia related to COVID I pretty much lost all my spoons/tenacity for the entirety of 2022.
Most days from Jan til around November 2022 my anemia related symptoms would cause me to just fall asleep. Didn't matter if I had enough sleep, if I sat down I would fall asleep and stay asleep 80% of the time.
Needless to say 2022 was a waste. Mostly. I got no art done because it was just stress the whole year.
Because of my "near death" experience with COVID-19 and MORE. In may 2022 after 15 YEARS of being without, I decided to get a puppy.
Best decision of that entire shit year.
Then,
I thought my marriage would survive because we had been through much worse. but it didn't. Two weeks before Christmas he told me he no longer loved me and was leaving. Because my depression was too much and eternal. Or what ever. I don't care anymore.
And he was gone within a week after that.
I threw out the Christmas tree and anything associated with it. What was the point.
And I was alone. At least I had a Dog 🐕.
I was seriously considering offing myself. I threw out all my cooking knives and all the things I had accumulated in my kitchen for my future family. Everything. What was the point.
I have 1 pan, 1 plate, 1 spoon, 1 cup, 1 fork. Rice cooker.
I threw out the toaster. Like to throw from the balcony. Cause toast was his thing.
It's just me now.
My lease ends on May 26 2023.
Money is super tight.
I may go homeless. Even though I work full time @ $19 hr
It's just fuking useless.
I haven't drawn anything at all.
At least I have a dog 🐕

Homemaking, gardening, and self-sufficiency resources that won't radicalize you into a hate group
Tumblr media
It seems like self-sufficiency and homemaking skills are blowing up right now. With the COVID-19 pandemic and the current economic crisis, a lot of folks, especially young people, are looking to develop skills that will help them be a little bit less dependent on our consumerist economy. And I think that's generally a good thing. I think more of us should know how to cook a meal from scratch, grow our own vegetables, and mend our own clothes. Those are good skills to have.
Unfortunately, these "self-sufficiency" skills are often used as a recruiting tactic by white supremacists, TERFs, and other hate groups. They become a way to reconnect to or relive the "good old days," a romanticized (false) past before modern society and civil rights. And for a lot of people, these skills are inseparably connected to their politics and may even be used as a tool to indoctrinate new people.
In the spirit of building safe communities, here's a complete list of the safe resources I've found for learning homemaking, gardening, and related skills. Safe for me means queer- and trans-friendly, inclusive of different races and cultures, does not contain Christian preaching, and does not contain white supremacist or TERF dog whistles.
Homemaking/Housekeeping/Caring for your home:
Making It by Kelly Coyne and Erik Knutzen [book] (The big crunchy household DIY book; includes every level of self-sufficiency from making your own toothpaste and laundry soap to setting up raised beds to butchering a chicken. Authors are explicitly left-leaning.)
Safe and Sound: A Renter-Friendly Guide to Home Repair by Mercury Stardust [book] (A guide to simple home repair tasks, written with rentals in mind; very compassionate and accessible language.)
How To Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis [book] (The book about cleaning and housework for people who get overwhelmed by cleaning and housework, based on the premise that messiness is not a moral failing; disability and neurodivergence friendly; genuinely changed how I approach cleaning tasks.)
Gardening
Rebel Gardening by Alessandro Vitale [book] (Really great introduction to urban gardening; explicitly discusses renter-friendly garden designs in small spaces; lots of DIY solutions using recycled materials; note that the author lives in England, so check if plants are invasive in your area before putting them in the ground.)
Country/Rural Living:
Woodsqueer by Gretchen Legler [book] (Memoir of a lesbian who lives and works on a rural farm in Maine with her wife; does a good job of showing what it's like to be queer in a rural space; CW for mentions of domestic violence, infidelity/cheating, and internalized homophobia)
"Debunking the Off-Grid Fantasy" by Maggie Mae Fish [video essay] (Deconstructs the off-grid lifestyle and the myth of self-reliance)
Sewing/Mending:
Annika Victoria [YouTube channel] (No longer active, but their videos are still a great resource for anyone learning to sew; check out the beginner project playlist to start. This is where I learned a lot of what I know about sewing.)
Make, Sew, and Mend by Bernadette Banner [book] (A very thorough written introduction to hand-sewing, written by a clothing historian; lots of fun garment history facts; explicitly inclusive of BIPOC, queer, and trans sewists.)
Sustainability/Land Stewardship
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer [book] (Most of you have probably already read this one or had it recommended to you, but it really is that good; excellent example of how traditional animist beliefs -- in this case, indigenous American beliefs -- can exist in healthy symbiosis with science; more philosophy than how-to, but a great foundational resource.)
Wild Witchcraft by Rebecca Beyer [book] (This one is for my fellow witches; one of my favorite witchcraft books, and an excellent example of a place-based practice deeply rooted in the land.)
Avoiding the "Crunchy to Alt Right Pipeline"
Note: the "crunchy to alt-right pipeline" is a term used to describe how white supremacists and other far right groups use "crunchy" spaces (i.e., spaces dedicated to farming, homemaking, alternative medicine, simple living/slow living, etc.) to recruit and indoctrinate people into their movements. Knowing how this recruitment works can help you recognize it when you do encounter it and avoid being influenced by it.
"The Crunchy-to-Alt-Right Pipeline" by Kathleen Belew [magazine article] (Good, short introduction to this issue and its history.)
Sisters in Hate by Seyward Darby (I feel like I need to give a content warning: this book contains explicit descriptions of racism, white supremacy, and Neo Nazis, and it's a very difficult read, but it really is a great, in-depth breakdown of the role women play in the alt-right; also explicitly addresses the crunchy to alt-right pipeline.)
These are just the resources I've personally found helpful, so if anyone else has any they want to add, please, please do!

Today's stream is Sleeping Dogs (if there are no technical difficulties).
Until this I'm doing household chores to prepare for my COVID-19 and flu shots tomorrow. I always feel like shit after them so I have to prepare my living space for that.
