There was no doubt in his mind, that even though his family had to hide right now, eventually one day someone would come along and after understanding the truth of what happened, would bring peace to the situation and the Shimon family would be free once again. But for now, it was too dangerous to venture outside of the island, they had no other choice. "One day the truth will be revealed and peace will be brought to the situation. Until then, this is the safest decision."

finished rereading the shimon arc, and the later half of the arc just really doesn’t hold up to the first one in terms of... pretty much everything tbh. now the last part of the arc was good too, don’t get me wrong! i enjoyed reading it, and it gave us nice, interesting and insightful moments too, be it about the characters, their dynamics, the worldbuiling, etc.

(noticeably not much about the various shimon arc’s plotlines tho lol. which were all pretty much resolved the moment daemon revealed himself as the Big Bad Guy and The Cause Of Everything, because after that it was just a matter of making enma catch up on that too. and tho i wish we’d have gone another route, it of course makes sense that’s what happened because daemon is the one who started it all, from all the way back to primo and cozart, but i still wish amano would have taken a bit more time with it, would have allowed a bit more nuance there. like mostly i wish the characters would have actually talked to each other about the conflicts and issues between them first before making them all daemon’s fault and “resolving” them by beating his ass. anyway.)

but it’s also kinda the problem that we only got good moments in between succession of events that otherwise fell kinda flat, for me at least. meanwhile the first half of the arc had me soo invested every step of the way, which you know if you read my posts about it lol. and imo amano wrote it so well at pretty much every level right up until the daemon reveal, setting up so many interesting things, interconnecting them and making them affect each other, and exploring them little by little and more and more each time, but then we got the daemon reveal and...

okay i think i just figured out my issue with the later half of the arc. i think daemon took too much space in it. and of course it was inevitable that the story focused on him from the moment he revealed himself as the actual antagonist/villain of the arc, that’s not my issue here, but i really think it was a mistake to also put him at the forefront of the story to do that. like imo amano should have kept giving equal focus at the very least to everything she had set up until then between the shimon and the 10th gen, and especially between enma and tsuna. but she made all of that take a back seat, which inevitably made me less willing to pay attention to what was happening because that’s what i cared about and kept me invested to that point, you know. and that’s what we were made to care about too, so i guess my issue is also that the daemon reveal came a little too late? and also with little foreshadowing before that.

so yeah, not sure how unpopular an opinion this might be, but that’s how i personally feel about it. but all that said, i of course still had such a blast reading the arc!!! it was really a lot of fun, and despite the later half being lacking, the shimon arc is still what i’d personally solidly call a good arc. and a very enjoyable one at the very least. also enma kozato, my beloved, i’m so glad i got to have a new-found appreciation of him. <3 he’s entirely too underrated for NO reasons guys, he’s literally such a good character!!! both on his own and when it comes to his relationship with tsuna!!!

it’s still really a shame the quality of the writing didn’t last to the end because i was ready to call it my new favorite arc, but it still became my new second favorite arc. which is saying something because i had a really negative memory of it for some reason lol. anyway, shimon arc good and underrated and i loved it <3

okay MOOD,,, anime Daemon is. hm to me but they casted him well for what it’s worth, I think. I think I’d prefer a complete rerun of the series, entirely redone from the Daily Life arc to the very end of the Curse of the Rainbow (it’d be nice to even have those animated tho so I’ll take what I can get) purely because I just want some of the minor manga scenes portrayed properly in the anime (Takeshi on the school roof, Kokuyo Gang taking out teeth instead of leaving pocketwatches, THE BLOOD LOL) but that’s also pretty hopeful wishing

but god would I do anything for more Giotto content, AND have Cozart voiced that’d be SO ICONIC

On The Broad and Enma’s height

Hi guys! 

I’ve been mentioning The Broad a lot lately when talking about Enma and Cozart, so I thought I should make a post with an explanation to refer to when people ask! 

So up first: 

Enma’s Height In General

Enma is indeed the same height-ish as Tsuna in the manga, but he constantly hunches- trying to hide himself- which doesn’t help much with trying to guess his height. He’s definitely broader than Tsuna, though. They’re also fourteen, and boys, so they’re going to be growing for a while yet too. 

Most of the foreign characters on KHR are portrayed as tall compared to the Japanese characters. For example: Squalo, Xanxus, Timoteo (if you take into account he’s an old man and has most likely already shrunken. The same counts for most of his guardians), Dino, etc.

(Notable exceptions: TYL Gokudera is one of the smaller guardians, despite being only ¼ Japanese. @aoife-has-fallen pointed out to me that this most likely was due to his time on the streets, where he would have had malnutrition during crucial periods of growth.

Strangely, Yamamoto is the tallest, with Hibari as the second tallest, despite their pure Japanese ancestry)

The ancestry of the Simon is not really clear- That their ancestors (the Simon’s first gen) were Italian is clear. That some of them have Japanese names is also clear, but then you have characters like Adelheid who’s got a Dutch/German name. Don’t ask me how she got that, especially when her last name is the typically Japanese “Suzuki”. Adelheid’s height seems to indicate she’s Italian, as she’s definitely the tallest woman in the series and probably also belongs to the tallest characters overall.

It’s a confusing thing, but in the end I just decided to say: “They’re mostly European” because Enma’s hair is red. This is no good evidence, as we all know manga hair colours, but I had to decide somehow.

On The Broad

This has a lot to do with the above explanation of height, just so you know.

After my whole thought process about Enma’s height and the Simon’s ancestry, @i-w-p-chan came with her alternate characterization Biker!Enma. And I went: Yes. 24-year-old Enma, shoulders like a closet (…Not sure if that’s the right idiom in English *rubs neck sheepishly*) and the leather jackets streching across that broad back.

Long story short, it became a thing were I imagined older Enma with broad shoulders, a broad face, a broad mouth and even broad hands! 

And with Enma resembling his ancestor Cozart so much, Cozart caught The Broad too. 

On Adult Enma Being Taller Than Hibari

Biker!Enma was incorporated into Fergalicious, a 001827 fic in the works, and @i-w-p-chan and I talked a lot (*cough*squealed*cough*) about the pairing. And she was like: I don’t get why people don’t ship this. Hibari can have TWO small animals!

And I went: Blue.exe has stopped working. Because I had visions of older Biker!Enma who was taller and broader than Hibari and still a little animal and my heart couldn’t contain it.

Ever since, any slightly older version of Tsuna has Tsuna only growing a little (because all his guardians except for Chrome tower over him *cackles*) and Enma slowly becoming a giant. Because he will somehow, even as a grown biker, be the cutest.

@sakhyu We don't actually know where the Shimon got their rings(or at least I don't remember), but the power of their rings came from combining them with the blood of Cozart. The future fight only would have effected the fight if it changed something enough for Demon Spade not to start it. And considering he has been planning this for at least eight years, that is rather unlikely.

Officially, the bosses of the Giglio Nero have the gift of the Sight, allowing them to See glimpses of the future.

Unofficially? Their Sight allows them to See so much more: the world at its truest form, the souls of people around them, the energy overflowing and weaving through the fabric of reality.

It also makes for very amusing situations, which Yuni had to learn to perfect her poker face to deal with.

Her Family has an idea about the situation, that there is more to her Sight.

There is definitely more to her sight, she thinks as she cuddles close to Gamma's wolves, curled around her, unseen by everyone else.

Byakuran likes to drop in unannounced quite a lot and it frustrates him how he can never get the drop on Yuni.

He always whines about it and she always tells him that he keeps giving himself away.

He whines harder, telling her that he does everything he can to hide his presence and she smiles and doesn't tell him about his soul's snake heads' habit of pushing in through every window whenever he comes over.

She is absolutely thankful that the souls traverse through a different plane or else there would be no space for them

It's always fun to be around Tsuna.

No one understands why she finds it extra funny when people from the mafia look at his short stature and assume that he is harmless.

She wishes they could see the great, hulking beast towering over Tsuna and spreading its wings into the sky and beyond what even Yuni can see, pushing its enticing Harmony in a circling dome around everyone.

The looks on their faces would be priceless.

(She wonders if she's been spending way too much time around Reborn and Byakuran before dismissing the idea.)

Yuni loves it when the Shimon are around.

The earth sings under their feet, and their presence heralds the arrival of a horde of spirits, all red eyed and trailing the Shimon like guards.

Shimon Primo stands just behind Enma, his lips are forming the sounds of a song ringing in tandem with the earth. Little Mami is curled up next to her brother, echoing the same words.

The song reverberates with the earthling blood in her veins, brings up memories of the lullabies her mother sung for her, and she feels at home.
