evan buckley: the missing, presumed dead, youngest child of the beloved/beloathed buckley family, all of whom were murdered when he was a kid—all except his older sister. except he’s alive, with the unfortunate downside of total amnesia, and nothing to tie him to anyone except a broken something that just reads: buck. so buck grows up alone, and it sucks, especially because it’s not all he’s ever known. he might not have his memories but he knows he's known what love is. home, love, family. there was once a time i must’ve had them too. home, love, family. i will never be complete until i find you.

maddie buckley: only daughter of the buckley family, fell in love with a bad man who tried to kill her whole family to get to her. got away and got safe. doesn’t know if doug’s alive. her brother’s probably dead. surviving’s not the same as living, and she’s been doing it for so long. but… have you heard… there’s a rumour in los angeles. she’s got the best and the brightest protecting her, and all that buckley family money. spreading them both thin could mean doug worming his way out of the woodwork but if there’s even a chance evan’s really out there? she’s already decided.

eddie diaz: conman, but more importantly, dad. there was a war, and then another one, and his wife left, and somewhere in there his parents took his kid from him. he does not have the money to fight them with lawyers, but he’s stubborn and not particularly respectful of the law and he’s heard that maddie buckley’s protective service team has means and money that allow for a) duking it out in court with his parents or b) getting his kid back in ways that are more uh legally grey. and it just so happens the rumours are that maddie buckley will do just about anything and pay just about any sum to find her long-lost brother. blond-haired, blue-eyed, missing at age 10—nearly two decades ago. he could look like anyone, now. sure, there’s the distinctive red birthmark over his eyebrow, but makeup and tattooing go a long way these days. oh, and conveniently, his partner in literal crime, however mild, has an old inside link with someone on maddie buckley’s bodyguard team. chim never shuts up about henrietta wilson—hen, he calls her��particularly when eddie’s fumbling a job and having to improvise and he feels the need to point out just how competent his previous partner steadfastly was.

if eddie and chim are holding illicit auditions for evan buckley lookalikes, and this massive beautiful man stumbles in apparently already having gone to the trouble of dressing for the part? who is eddie to look that gift horse in the mouth? the quicker they see this con through, the quicker he’s together with chris again.

except buck thinks eddie really believes he’s maddie buckley’s missing brother, and buck is warm and ridiculous and so genuinely curious about eddie’s own family, on this journey to find his own, and eddie can’t help but share christopher, and buck listens with bright eyes and holds the photographs so carefully in his big hands.

cons are never victimless, and eddie knows getting chris back takes priority over any moral quandary of identity theft here.

but buck asks about chris’s favourite things and stays up late on their crosscountry train to come up with plans for an accessible skateboard for a kid he’s never met. buck tells eddie he wonders if maddie’ll recognise him, and he hopes she does, because he’s never had anyone see him and know him before. buck asks eddie if he thinks they’ll stay friends, once they’re both reunited with their families. it’ll be nice not to have to miss anyone again, he tells eddie one night, quiet. missing who you don’t remember is one thing. missing who you know?

he trails off and falls asleep not long after, but eddie lies awake in the bunk below him for hours. his moral compass has always swung with whatever cognitive dissonance necessary to justify his actions because the final truth is: heart over mind. and chris has always been his whole heart. so falling in love with your mark has got to be the stupidest, most dangerous thing you can do.

even this is okay; he can handle breaking part of his own heart. but he didn’t realise he was holding so much of buck’s too, and now? he doesn’t know that he can survive breaking any of that.

I swear CrossCountry has the grimiest freaking trains. Being stuck on one for two hours feels like marinating in a sewage tank. The seats have stains, there's litter everywhere, some of the seats have hair stuck on the side and if you're extra lucky there's also the vague smell of sick. I wish it was not the only freaking way to get to some places. Worst trains ever.

I'm sorry that's happening, epsecially with what I've heard about Voyagers on long journeys... Funny you send this ask here though, XC is the biggest intercity operator that doesn't serve London

17. Space, enchanted forest, magical kingdom, or underwater city?

oh this is hard. i'm torn between enchanted forest and underwater city tbh. and leaning toward underwater city, because i have always loved being in the water. i loved pretending to be a mermaid. and i got my scuba certification last spring and ngl, i'm p sure diving fixed me. like. being under the sea is just so??? like. you're focus is narrowed down to something so immediate. and like. the water pressure is so like. it was so lovely on my muscles. and like. an underwater city? well that's inherently magical right? so like. you get the magic. you get the unexpected creatures. kelp forests. that's enchanted. yeah ok. nvm. i talked myself around to underwater city. it's underwater city for sure

26. What is your dream mode of transportation?

i love trains!!! i wish trains were more prevalent. i want to be able to take the train places. i've traveled in japan on the shinkansen and it's amazing! i miss that. you get the sights of a crosscountry trip without having to actually do the driving. you can walk around. it's literally my favorite mode of transportation

honestly the biggest issues in this specific area are just like... filling in gaps. I lost a lot of my really early drafts of dialogue between Dany and Robin so a lot of my "filler" stuff that stretches the story out just... doesn't exist anymore, and building that back up is REALLY hard. that's part of why I write such short chapters most of the time. I'm just figuring it out as I go.

OK THIS ONE I ACTUALLY KNOW THE ANSWER TO!!!!! last spring, like during breakup, so when it was really dreary and soggy and windy, I was going for walks more to take the trash and stuff down our (very long) driveway, and whenever it was windy I would throw on this big long brown coat I have (often thought of as my "Scully coat") and as I walked I just... kind of came up with the idea? it was originally kind of a "What if I was in an apocalypse scenario and also what if I was cool and tough and confident?" and that's how I created Dany. and then I went "and what if there was a slightly annoying guy who I could chat with and basically wield my hypothetical incredible wit and cool-ness at?" and that's how Robin came to be. and the image of the train hopping was kind of my first idea other than the walking and motives for the journey itself. the more I've worked on it though the more Dany has become her own character instead of just "me but cooler" and honestly I'm glad for that.

Headcanon A:  realistic

Keerin: they still secretly enjoy presenting masc, but their enjoyment of it has been completely tainted by familial expectation to the point they've convinced themself it's not for them.

Annalise: when she heard the Lost Capulets for the first time, she knew she had to see them in person. the crosscountry drive to the city they play in is one she could have, if she tried, done in a few days. but she allotted weeks for it, solely so she could stop and visit all the roadside attractions she never got the chance to see when she was a kid on the road with her dad.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

Annalise: in elementary, a chicken hid in her backpack and came to school with her and followed her around all day. she was so popular, everyone was amazed at how well 'trained' it was.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

Keerin: a long time ago, you told me about how keerin had an eating disorder during their teen model phase, but they'd managed to recover. for a while there, they were doing really well, connecting and baking and being involved in their community. they were recovering while kai was getting worse. but now that they're with their grandma and her strict diets, theyre gonna relapse. as kai's getting healthier, keerin's getting thinner.

Annalise: in spite of how incredibly close they were as kids, her dad barely knows who she is anymore. he doesn't know about the angel stuff. he doesn't know about the smoking, or drinking, or depression. it's not that he hates her or has been ignoring her, he just... hasn't been home enough to see it. she didnt tell him when she left for her road trip. every time he calls, she lies, having made up an entire fake college schedule to feed him, just so he doesn't get worried or feel disappointed in her.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

Keerin: wore the POOFIEST dress to prom. hated it so much theure never ever gonna wear a poofy dress ever again.

Annalise: shes schrodinger's trans rn. she has some powerful trans vibes but i cant figure out how to make it work with her story.
