hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

"Do I pick something that will please my family, but that I don't really like? Or something that they might not love, but that makes me happy?" He asked, letting out a loud groan. - In which Lance has trouble deciding on a name for himself and is scared of coming out.

i fckn love fics where everyone is trans and autistic. whats that one post. more autistics are trans bc gender is stupid and autistic people arent stupid. that is the energy of this fic

2. Binder Blues by fairdeath

Lance is tired. Just... tired. Five extra steps to every mission that the others don't follow – bind, cry because it fucking hurts over the blue-black bruises of the last fight, get hit a few times more than necessary, spend 20 minutes catching your breath, ignore the bruises the binder pushes at until the next fight.

more trans lance, i think i was scrolling throught the tag here. this one is sad i will say. i have to believe he gets healhty and starts to truly trust his team after this :(( but the fic was wonderful despite the fact that it hurts

3. Warm Hands by darkinsanity13

Something's rather literally cramping Lance's style. Keith lends him a hand or two.

yeah i was definitely looking thru the tag. and this is an old one!! one from 2016!! i love established relationship klance always, and keith just wants to hold his boyfriend man. and he's so real for that

4. keith's jacket by @eyeball

Keith's search for his stolen jacket is set aside when more pressing matters arise. The sobs coming from behind Lance's closed door are a bit more than worrying, so Keith lets himself in. He tries to provide all the support he can, but he can only do so much for the sniveling lump of a boy with tear-filled eyes and a refusal to explain himself.

i LOVE this fic ive read it so many times. it's a 2016 fic, so i love it on principle, but it also has a perfectly balanced mix of arguing and banter and angst and begrudging attraction like!! shocked it's only a few thousand words. i've also had "tell me next time i say something stupid" "everything you say is stupid" screenshotted forever lol i laughed out loud

5. Just like looking at the sunset by @crystalklances

Keith has been friends with Lance for a while, and has long since been aware of his feelings for him. As he's taking Lance home to visit his parents for the first time during semester break, he's hoping to finally confess.

crystalklances i miss you every day. i hope ur well. i love this fic bc it's so soft, like seriously goopy, and bc i love college aus and i love fics where keith has his parents!! it's always an interesting path to explore.

aaaaa! well, here’s my attempt at a book-style title image for the wonderful @crystalklances’s fic Blue Summer Love, a cute little fic about Keith and Lance meeting at a sports camp for the @keithminibang! I had a wonderful time reading this and trying out different scenes, but since I haven’t had much practice drawing kids, I figured I’d go somewhat safe. ah well, don’t read my ramblings, go read their fic!

hi melo! i have a question—does it ever happen to you that you kind of lose touch with a story and just can't work on it even if you want to? do you have any advice how to find back to it? i hope you're doing well, have a great day!

hey robin! yup, definitely happens to me a lot, though it used to happen more. 

something that’s worked for me is going back and rereading, maybe even all the way back to the bare bones of the story plan, and asking myself what exactly i set out to convey. questions like, ‘why does the plot have to go in this direction’ or ‘what’s motivating this character again?’ that not only helps me get back in touch but also opens up new options/ideas that i hadn’t thought of. 

if i’m really really dissociating from a story and about to give up, writing something new and completely different helps me, too. doesn’t have to be long or perfectly edited, just a short snippet that’s fun and easygoing. i don’t know if it’s the same for you, but often when i lose touch, it’s because i’ve exhausted/burned out the story inside my own head, so working on something new helps fuel my brain back up in a way lol. 

and lastly, i can’t stress enough how helpful and important it is to simply take a break from what you’re writing! from writing in general. i know there’s a heavy sense of guilt to that, but there really shouldn’t be. it’s just like how our bodies need sleep to recuperate; it’s absolutely necessary! and taking a break from writing doesn’t have to mean a lack of productivity. for example, whenever i’m not writing, i’m reading. when i read other people’s works, i learn new writing techniques and phrasings and get inspired. then i’ll go back to my own work feeling refreshed. 

this got super long-winded, sorry! ^^;; i hope at least a bit of it will be helpful to you. i hope you’re having a wonderful day too, and i’m sending all the good writing vibes your way!!

Lance nods, eyes scanning Keith’s face slowly, “I gotta ask, though, do you come here often?” Keith snorts, fondness for this dumbass making his heart to beat faster. “Charming as always, I see.” “I can show you ‘charming’.” Lance says, eyebrows wiggling in a suggestive manner and while the others groan behind them at the line, Keith just smiles. “But before that, I’m a man of honor and I gotta know: are you single?” Keith blinks at the question and suddenly he's laughing. [Or the one where Lance can't hold his alchohol and Keith gives up a Cuddle Night of his boyfriend to be flirted by said boyfriend just for his boyfriend to forget he was already his boyfriend. It's a mess but Keith wouldn't want it any other way.]

yall remember bleusarcelle...remember 2018.....crazy times. anyway. this fic is fun and sweet and dorky, nice to read when you want to forget how bad vld dropped the ball and ruined everything :))

Keith is giving him a look, contemplating, eyebrows drawn together. Noticing his gaze, Lance looks up, raising an eyebrow. “Are you cold?” Keith asks after a moment of a silent staring contest. “No,” Lance replies. “You should’ve said something.” “I just said I’m not—” But Keith doesn’t listen. Already, he’s shrugging out of his red varsity jacket, and he leans over to drape it around Lance’s shoulders. ---- Or, 4 times Keith is determined to prevent Lance from getting sick, and the time Lance catches a cold after all.

I MISS CRYSTALKLANCES EVERY DAY, BRO. no one got ridiculously soft modern au keith like he did. fuck. but at least most of his works are still on ao3. i like this one in particularly one because its soft and im a weenie but also because its a 4+1 which is my favourite genre of fic ever actually

3. what makes you beautiful by seventies

MMA fighter Keith Kogane is admitted to the hospital and gets KO'd by blue eyes that rival the seas and a crooked grin that knocks the air out of his lungs. It hasn't even been a minute in the ring. It's a world fucking record.

rare blue eyed lance appreciation moment from me (old bookmark lmfao). but jokes aside i do love this fic. i will always always always every day of my life love whipped on sight keith idc. its so so funny to me. its funnier when lance is like oh! this is my rival. we are going to be ENEMIES FUCK YEAH and keith is like oh my god if i dont marry him right now im literally going to die. also this fic has matt just fyi

4. Lance and Keith's guide for how to cure insomnia by crystalklances

Keith has always had trouble sleeping, but never told anyone. When they fall asleep together after a mission by chance, Lance finds out and offers to share his bed to help Keith fall asleep. However, sleeping together every night has unforeseen side-effects for both of them.
