i had the sweetest dream last night 🖤 i dreamt that i was writing a confession letter to Crosshair and i noticed that he was also writing something from a few tables away in the mess hall. Before i could give him my letter though, he got to me first and handed me a note asking if i’d like to go on a date with him and omg he was so shy and nervous 😭 of course i said yes (i wrote it down) 🖤 and when he read my answer he looked so shocked and was blushing hard, and then the most beautiful smile came from him when he looked at me🥺🖤

He wanted to ask questions but kept them close and silent. "You're hurt and I have a ship."

"So what?"

"If you don't clean it properly you'll-"

"Get infected. I heard you the first time dummy." The woman shooed him away, holding up her leg at awkward angle. "I'm not stupid."

"I can help and I will if you just-”

"If I just what trooper?!" She shouted and Crosshair wasn't expecting it, moving back a few feet. 

"Let me."

Crosshair wanted to... help. For whatever reason he wanted to do something good, clean his conscience for the first time in a long fucking time.

"Why bother?" The woman asked or nearly barked again, stuffing things into the bag and bending her leg in a way that would harm her more than good.

"Because I can."

"Well good for you. Trying to clear your conscience or something? do a good deed get a reward. Pfft you don't want to get stuck around with me anyway."

Crosshair grumbled. "There's an emergency kit on my ship; bacta spray, patches the whole thing. I can fix you up, Tech thinks I don't listen when he talks about that sort of thing but I do."

The woman hopped around to face him, at least his direction. She was still shrouded in shadows. "Who's Tech?"

"My brother."

"You're not some murderous creep are you? fuck some rando before you find someone to kill in a dank dark alley?"

"You have some issues if that's what you're thinking." Cross grunted.

"Not really. I'm being cautious, I am a woman after all. Can never be too careful or forgiving."

The woman had a point. They stood their for only a few silenced beats before she made a rather odd request.

"If I come with you do you um you think I could wear your helmet?"

"Why?" Crosshair drawled.

"I don't want you to see my face. It's pretty gnarly."

Crosshair chuckled. "I assure you I've seen worse."

The woman hopped again, hoisting her bag into her hands then over her shoulder. "I'm sure you have mister but I haven't exactly come to terms with my new look just yet. Hence why I'm down here in the dark instead of getting patched up at Eden's. I know her she'll make a fuss and carry on about why I wasn't careful and-"

"Say no more." Out of character he gipped the bottom of his helmet, the familiar hiss sounded louder when he peeled it off and held it out to her. He wasn't sure why and maybe her assumption was right, he was trying to cover up his bad with new good. "Can you stand on it? can you walk?"

Crosshair was without his heat signature and formidable vitals from his black bucket. The woman hobbled closer, putting on his helmet which was strange for him to see his helmet on someone else and not just sitting on his bed or at his hip. "Not really. Is it far, your ship?" The vocoder changing her voice.

"I'd say about six clicks."

"I don't know what that means."

Crosshair barely smiled. "Not far, if I have to carry you I will."

"You know I don't really trust clones."

Crosshair snorted. "Me either."

He shook his head and you looked confused. "Not here ad'ika." With another sigh he walked you back into the hangar and started for the communal locker rooms, you were going to catch a cold if you stayed in those clothes and that just wouldn't do.

You stopped suddenly making Crosshair turn around. You thumbed over to an unoccupied attack shuttle in the spacious room. If he wanted to talk privately, without distraction or prying ears, inside a small craft would be the safest bet.

You climbed in, your clothes drenched and made a squelching sound once you sat in the copilot seat, waiting for Crosshair to join you. He shut the hatch and slipped off his helmet, the complete silence in the ship pounded in his ears.

"What's wrong Cross? You've been out of it all day. Should we be worried?" You asked finally. More concern in your tone.

"Why should you worry about me?"

"Because."

"Because why? I'm not your ward." His voice came out harsher then anticipated. He wasn't good at talking about his feelings.

"Because you're you!" You spun in the chair, knees knocking into his as you leaned forward and touched the tops of this thighs with your hands. A new sensation of heat radiated off of you, if only he had Hunter's keen sense of heightened smell and awareness he would've felt the overwhelming ache you held for him. The worry. "I have every right to be worried about my friends. Especially when something isn't right."

"Friends? Is that what we are?" Crosshair grumbled, meeting your eye contact was making him dizzy so he turned and looked out of the window.

"Believe it or not crosshair we are," you gingerly touched his face, unfamiliar as no one ever touched his face before not even his vids. Just tech that one time he had split his forehead open giving a reg a good old fashioned headbutt for getting in his way during practice drills in the quad. He let you turn his his face back to yours, your eyes shining with sadness. "Aren't we?"
