curlsmith is SO FUCKING GOOD
so far itās the only line that works well for my hair, its wavy so most curl products are way too heavy
Their stuff leaves my ways so nicely defined and voluminous & most their stuff actually leaves my hair feeling soft! The mouse is a lil sticky tho.
Still tryna figure out how to sleep with my hair. Iāve tried top knot inna bonnet & rope braids. The top knot leaves it a tangled mess. The braids leave it untangled but I feel like I loose volume and gain frizz. Both maintain my waves nicely tho.
Perhaps I need to sleep suspended from the ceiling like a bat?
Itās odd how something simple like taking care of my hair properly makes me feel like myself again. Iām painting again, Iām gardening again⦠Ty SSRI šŖš»

My roommate is like very into hair care and will spend big bucks on products. i used to be skeptical that spending more rlly matters (salon grade rlly much better than drugstore haircare? Even my roommate ponders it)
But then i tried curlsmith and my curls have literally never been happier, even a week later after using the product so damn. i guess it can make a difference
#cURLSMITH IS LIKE 30$ but i really cant get over how nice it made my hair..... i sorta wanna invest#finding stuff that doesnt flatten your curls or frizz ur hair up is a challenge. i liked shea but#i cant explain it. curlsmith made my curls turn into dense lockets. i was like :o

I saw your post about curly hair from the other day so I have to ask: Do you have any care tips for curly hair you could share? I'm the only person in my family with curly hair so I'm learning by trial and error here š
Oh lord honey, full disclaimer, my hair is pretty damaged via bleaching and coloring, so idk if these products are healthy for your hair so much as I like their smell, and they seem to work for me š¤£
So I just use basic drugstore shampoo and conditioner. I donāt waste much time trying to find special stuff for that. I will use the Curlsmith bond cream once a week (before washing. Leave in for like an hour, then wash routine). But I think itās kinda like olaplex, idk if you really need this if your hair is already healthy.
To style Iāll use herbal essenceās curl mousse, and miss Jessieās pillow soft curls on still soaking wet hair, scrunch those in, and wrap it up in a cotton tshirt. Wear it around the house for a little while, and then I clip up half my hair so the bottom half can dry. If you can plan your wash with enough time to let it all air dry, youāll probably get more definition in your curls, but Im usually going to bed with it still partly damp.
Iāll section and twist it up into small buns with silk scrunchies. Then each night from then on Iāll usually try to be good and wear my bonnet, but either, my head gets too hot, the band drives me crazy, or it comes off on its own, and I just live with the consequences lol. However a bonnet and/or silk pillowcase is a good investment to prevent frizz in between your wash days.
I rarely diffuse, cause I just do NOT have the patience. But if you need a refresh, getchu a water bottle and dampen your hair, add a little more product, and diffuse. Dry shampoo is also your best friend on those later days.
Iāve done many years of research myself. I got my curly hair from my dad, so unfortunately my mom (who has pin straight hair) never really knew how to help. Donāt feel like you have to buy a boatload of expensive products. Most people only need one or two, and just find a good technique that works for them. Good luck!

hey would u mind sharing ur hair care routine (what type of shampoo, conditioner, any masks/treatments u do)? it looks so good :0
Fuck yeah I ove talking about hair, that's why I thought I'd like having long hair but turns out it's sensory hell. Anyway.
Giovanni Smooth as Silk shampoo for a lowkey everyday option as it's sulfate free but cleanses well enough;
Once every like 3 washes i clarify with something containing sulfates and disodium EDTA. If you're feeling fancy you can do Kinky-Curly Come Clean but a random Pantene one will do the job so I don't feel like it's necessary. Just keep an eye on the drying alcohols (short chain) in the Pantene shampoos, some of them contain fewer or none and are better for yr hair;
I alternate between Mill Creek Biotin and Keratin conditioners. Mill Creek really makes the best conditioner on the market imo and the price has never gone up but you need to order it from the US;
Fuck Curlsmith. But if your hair gets really dry the Hydro Creme Soothing Mark really is the most effective deep conditioner I've tried within the cgm realm;
Kinky-Curly Knot Today as leave in / detangler or Ecoslay Rice Pudding. I love both. Make sure you buy Kinky-Curly from a reputable source cause there are plenty of counterfeits around;
KINKY-CURLY CURLYING CUSTARD. You will have to take out a loan to afford it but it's worth it. Also you need so little a tub will last you 2 years;
Before the Custard I used to use Ecoslay Lemon Buttercream and I liked that one too. It's just annoying that their products need to be refrigerated;
Before every wash (every 5 or 6 days for me) I give myself a scalp massage with amla oil, fenugreek oil, castor oil (also brahmi and bhringraj sometimes, depends what's on sale, but my faves are amla and fenugreek bc fenugreek is also lowkey a dht blocker) + a few drops of rosemary and basil oil and I sleep in it. On my ends I use avocado oil cause its molecular weight is low enough to penetrate the hair shaft;
Once every like, 6 weeks, I use my partner's ketoconazole shampoo to get rid of dht buildup on my scalp.
my hair is medium/low density and medium thickness, and low porosity at the moment cause virgin and proteinated af.
i also do henna once a year!! the brand i use is called spierb which is kinda random and lowkey sus but i really like it. i use copperberry (acerola) as an acid (1:4 ratio).
Hope you enjoyed this 'asciugata' (in northern Italian slang when someone talks your ear off abt sth you only mildly care about it's called "to dry someone out", an 'asciugata' is 'a dry-out'. Feel free to share yr hair routine if you like!

girlll, if u donāt drop that curl routine!! (u look so pretty btw š«¶š½ššø)
thank you!!! ššš«¶š«¶ curl routine is: non-lathering shampoo (i use the salon brand NYC curls, i used to buy it from my hairdresser in new york but now i get it from amazon). wash ur hair UPSIDE DOWN, flip your whole head upside down and wash only the roots. put the conditioner in & let it sit your whole shower. i only rinse my hair upside down, i donāt let the shower stream touch the top of my crown cus it makes it flat. then in this order: shea moisture black castor leave in conditioner. curlsmith leave in air dry cream. gel of your preferred hold. quarter size amount each on soaking wet hair. AIR DRY! i never use heat and i never use towels. it simply has to be wet for a few hours. easy peasy. i sleep in a bonnet because i tend to go 3ish days between washes (i shower every day so i just wear a cap to keep water off so it doesnāt dry out).

iāve been wanting to try curl talk!!!! itās next on the list when i hit empties, i use the curlsmith air dry cream and moroccanoil curl cream. i have a weird allergy so iām limited with products sadly. i loveeee the sheamoisture line but itās too heavy for my hair, weighed it down big time. my fave clarifying shampoo also got discontinued and iām still sad about it
the mousse is super light!! imagine like a slightly watered down foam hand soap and thatās it
I use the bonding curl talk shampoo and conditioner, itās a mostly purple tube opposed to the mostly white bottle and itās AMAZING

- conditioner: currently bread conditioner. this is the one step ill play around with
- curly hair routine: john friedas leave in spray + marc anthony curl cream + shea moisture gel (all at drug stores, ive tried so many expensive ones and always go back to my tried and true)
- occasionally do a scalp oil for hair growth or deep conditioner / masks. love curlsmiths deep conditioner and just got the bread one which im excited to try soon.

Ask game! - 13, 18, 23 (no pressure)
13: 2:30-ish?? (it's 10:00 rn) I had a huge slice of pizza, fries & four mozarella stick so I might be good until tomorrow
18: love your curls, not your mother's, garneir, curlsmith, and aussie (I have curly thick hair)
23: it depends on how chilly, if I'm dressed for it it can be cozy but if it's straight-up freezing I do not want to be outside. I enjoy mid to high 50s-low 70s and then it's too hot or too cold.

@rosewindow asked about my curl routine so I figured I'd make a post about it. I loosely follow the Curly Girl method, but my hair is a) extremely thick (density-wisr), b) extremely fine, and c) prone to having hands in it (my own mostly but also my girlfriend's) so some things I've altered. My cut was many layers through the top because my hair has a tendency not to curl there. There are longer layers through the middle/ends. My curls are primarily 3a with some 3b and 2c areas.
I shampoo and condition daily in the morning(ish) with sulfate/silicone-free products, usually the Function of Beauty Curly (pink) line that you can get at Target.
I comb my hair to detangle while in the shower, by flipping my head upside down while I condition and raking through it with a wide tooth comb. I then scrunch my hair as I rinse the conditioner out, to help curls form.
Out of the shower, I put in curl cream (right now using Curlsmith Hold me Softly Style Balm) and mousse (Curlsmith Volume Mousse from their purple strength line). Then I plop my hair on top of my head and wrap in a microfiber hair towel so it can dry some.
When I feel like taking the towel off, I scrunch a bit more to encourage it, especially the top, and then I go about my life! I sleep with it in a bun with a satin scrunchie, and am careful about heat, color, etc.
