i was tagged by @linglynz !! thank you 💕
five songs you’ve been listening to on repeat recently: ajsks tbh this was hard to decide because i have a whole playlist that basically plays like 24/7 but here are some of the most played ones!!
black swan by bts
вытрила | sails by melovin
і кров кипить | my blood boils by melovin
策马正少年 | youth on horseback by 肖战 | xiao zhan
atlas drowned by the gang of youths
last movie: your name engraved herein!! i only got like halfway through it and then i fell asleep tho, lmao
currently watching: i've been watching 斗罗大陆 | douluo continent and it's really fun!! i really like tang san & xiao wu, tho every episode i despair on how they end the episode and crave more content. ( also i slowly started shipping dai mubai & tang san and.... i don't think anyone can stop me from that anymore )
currently reading: lots of fanfic and i'm kind of stuck at tsoa? i struggle w getting into the writing style but idk if that is actually the writing or because i'm reading it in german?
i tag: @yibobibo, @yibocrisis, @lanszhan, @xiaodaozhang, @lanzhansmiles, @4amxichen, @vardaelcntari, @wenqiing, @r-walker & @und0miels

Tagged by absolute top tier babe @jadedbirch. Thank you!
Rules: answer the questions and tag 9 people you want to get to know better/catch up with!
Three ships: Silverflint, joplittle, Ives/Boyd.
Last song: The Wrote & The Writ - Johnny Flynn
Last movie: Ravenous, which I’ve seen 3 times now and I’m still not over it. Bobby Carlyle please come and menace me homoerotically! I’ll join your manifest destiny analogy cannibal cult. RIP to Guy Pearce but I’m different.
Currently watching: Still on my glacially slow rewatch of Black Sails. I’ve only just started S3. And I’m rewatching The Terror on actual tv once a week, which is still amazing. I can make out actual background details! In HD! It’s the highlight of my week.
Currently reading: I’ve still got Barrow’s Boys on the go, and I did actually read a couple of chapters yesterday so I’ve definitely not abandoned it. I’m sort of listening to Caliban’s War, but I’ve dozed through so much of it that I’m not sure it counts. And I’ve literally just started reading Circe, which I’m hoping I’ll like more than TSoA (which was fine but didn’t live up to the hype for me).
Currently craving: Chocolate. There’s easter chocolate sitting around downstairs and despite not actually being religious I feel like I should wait until next weekend to crack it open because them’s the rules.
Tagging: @nettlekettle @twobrokenwyngs @ilackallhonour @breaddemon @makings-of-greatness @empirics @runqings @sherlock-is-no-sociopath @remus-lupin-is-my-type if any of you fancy it

fic writer interview!
thank you @omgcmere for the tag. i’m honored.
name: Vio but captainegg in one shape or form on tumblr and AO3!
fandoms: Mainly Wolfstar (Harry Potter) and RWRB. Also a big fan of ATLA, Voltron (eh), Yuri on Ice and TSoA - I like to jump between fandoms a lot.
where you post: AO3! Always have and always will <3 Some smaller things and snippets do end up on either of my tumblr sometimes.
most popular one-shot: smoke and mirrors - honestly no idea why other than people seem to really like Henry wearing a suit and Alex getting tied up. But I totally understand sdfgh
most popular multi-chapter: My YouTuber AU - you take my breath and steal the things i know. I’m very happy that people seem to enjoy it because it’s so much fun to write.
favorite story I’ve written so far: My YouTuber AU and my Sugar Daddy AU (I will adore you until eternity). Also waves for the Wolfstar Hurt Fest because it hurt so good and was very much out of my comfort zone.
fic you were nervous to post: Most of them to be honest but I was the most nervous about Bedroom Eyes since it was my first fic that I posted after like years of straining away from writing fics.
how do you choose your titles: Randomly. They are usually the last thing I come up with and it’s either a song lyric or something related to the story.
do you outline: Rarely. I prefer to just write and think about plot points as I go. But it really depends on what type of story it is. Like a smutty one shot requires a lot less planing than a multi-chapter fic.
complete: Most of my fics are either one shots or for fests so they tend to be completed from the get-go. I currently have a few uncompleted ones yet but I don’t feel pressured about completing them anytime soon. In total I have 23 completed fics.
in progress: The biggest one I’m still writing and updating is you take my breath and steal the things i know. It’s such a fun story and I can’t wait for Christmas break to roll around so I can dive head first back into it. The other uncompleted ones are more like collections of stand-alone stories.
coming soon: A few fest fics for Wolfstar if I finish them and a bunch of RWRB planned in the future like a Band AU and a
prompts: I like to use prompts but I use them more like mere guidelines and inspiration. Most of my prompts are vague ideas we muse about on Discord or songs I can’t stop listening about. I also just love to write AUs and tropes that I personally adore.
tagging any writer who would like to!

tagged by @meichenxi, thank you!! i started this and then promptly left it in my drafts for over a week, so this is! outdated! (but i am loath to change most portions of this)
Rules: tag 9 people you’d like to get to know better! (my anxiety will not allow me to do this and in fact i received a spam email with the subject line: “Do not contact me I am not interested” immediately after i first saved this as a draft which felt like the universe communicating directly with me)
Last Song: 寒鴉少年/Jackdaw Boy, by 华晨宇/Hua Chenyu
Listen, this is an absolute banger of a theme and I watched the entirety of 斗破苍穹/Dou Po Cang Qiong just to figure out when they played it (alright no I also watched it because Xiao Zhan is styled in a waist-length braid and I am w e a k); it’s credited as the OPENING THEME on Wikipedia but it fucking is NOT and in FACT they only used it ONCE during a training montage VERY early on in the show which is WILD. If I were a cdrama, I would NOT shut up about this song.
you can listen to it here! i’m linking a live performance instead of the music video (even though the piano in the studio version is more... aurally satisfying? like when i first heard it and the first notes came in, i sat UP and took notice) because hua chenyu is such an interesting and committed performer, i could never get tired of him. anyway, i can no longer say 走吧 in a normal way, i must simply scream it like in the chorus
Last Movie: Yellow Rose! I have many thoughts on this film that I am still unable to articulate - all I can so far say is that I cried, very hard, and very often.
Currently Watching: making my way downtown through 有翡/Legend of Fei, which is unfortunately very slow going as I’ve yet to really connect with it. I have maybe been rewatching The Good Place and Galavant instead.
Currently Reading: Tackling three (!) books rn, which I haven’t done since I was a kid and used to leave books like a trail of breadcrumbs all along the house.
1) The first two volumes of David Hawkes’ translation of 紅樓夢/Red Chamber Dream just arrived this week last week. This is out of filial duty (my mom will not stop telling me to read this) but also like a desire to reconnect with my heritage hurghsdf
2) The Discworld books, shoutout to Ash! I am likewise going in publication order and beginning with The Colour of Magic, although a lot of people seem to warn against it (including Neil Gaiman??), but even with the very little progress I’ve made, I know that I will love this. This writing feels like home.
3) Finally diving into The Song of Achilles, shoutout to Melissa, because I kept seeing your tags on cql gifsets with tsoa quotes and I knew I had to read it.

So I can't help asking... book recs?
Oh god. Listen, I love this ask. So much. This will get long, because I’m a nerd, but here are some of my favs. I included links on Amazon so people can read the descriptions, but please try to buy local when you can!
Feel free to come to my inbox anytime with recommendations or book chatter!
Tumblr media
The Song of AchillesBy Madeline Miller
My current obsession. Search the #patrochilles or #tsoa on my blog. I’m a sucker for Greek mythology and this story broke me - it stayed with me for weeks. I keep re-reading the ending and legitimately sobbing. The language is poetic, the metaphors are brilliant, and the love story between Achilles and Patroclus is breathtaking. 150/10 would recommend.
A Tree Grows in BrooklynBy Betty Smith
I first read this when I was 11-years-old – in fact, the librarian eventually gave me her copy, because I checked it out so often. Since then, I’ve read it at least once a year (this means more than 20 years) and I have a tattoo with my favourite quote. It’s not a story about anything specific, but rather a look at what it means to be human, told through the eyes of a young girl named Francie Nolan, growing up poor in a 1900s Brooklyn tenement.
The HelpBy Kathryn Stockett
Abileen Clark is one of my absolute favourite characters. She’s an incredible human being and her courage in the face of the racism and personal tragedy she endures is astounding. She’s the wheel that sets the entire story in motion, and I find her to be so inspiring.
1984By George Orwell
It’s terrifying. Especially considering how realistic it feels in the world today.
The Book ThiefBy Markus Zusak
The narrator of this story is Death – how ingenious is that? Liesel’s story is beautiful and filled with suspense and her relationship with Rudy is one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve read.
All the light we cannot seeBy Anthony Doerr
Another WW2 story, I can’t get enough. It compares the experience of two people on opposite sides of the war – one tragically as part of the Hitler Youth, the other who is a surprising participant in the Resistance. The path that leads them toward each other is complicated.
The Versions of UsBy Laura Barnett
Told through different story arcs, it’s a story full of ‘what ifs’. It explores how different your life story could be based on the smallest changes in the beginning. Again, I cried so much. On a boat. In front of strangers.
My life in FranceBy Julia Child
This was a random book I picked up at the library and to this day, it’s a go-to when I need something comforting. Julia Child led an incredible life – after WW2 she went to Paris where she became a chef, wrote a cookbook with her friends, met so many famous people, and travelled the world with the love of her life. I wish I could be her.
The HistorianBy Elizabeth Kostova
I’m an avid reader of fictional history and this book delivers. It follows a young woman searching for her missing father, who has a mysterious connection to Vlad the Impaler. They travel through four of my favourite cities – Amsterdam, London, Budapest, and Istanbul – which would be enticing enough, but the vivid imagery and the complex mystery bring it to another level.
The FountainheadBy Ayn Rand
I know Rand is a polarizing author and I understand why, but regardless – I love this book. I was at university the first time I read it, and the raw emotion in Howard Roark’s struggle and his relationship with Dominique Francon was unlike anything I had read.
The Thorn BirdsBy Colleen McCullough
This is one of those epic novels that sticks with you. The rugged harshness of life on an Australian sheep farm, the bitterness of family obligation, and the illicit love affair between a young woman and a Priest, this story literally has it all.
OutlanderBy Diana Gabaldon
Sassenach. Hands down, this is one of the greatest love stories I’ve encountered. There’s no place in the world I love more than Scotland and Claire and Jamie have the kind of love we all want to find.
East of EdenBy John Steinbeck
This story is sort of brutal. It was surprising in the way it made me connect with – and root for – certain characters that I did not expect.
The Fault in our StarsBy John Green
At this point, I’m sure everyone’s either seen the movie or read the book and John Green is a national treasure, but I have to say – I remember finishing this book in the middle of the night, thinking ‘wow that was really good,’ going to the kitchen for a glass of water, and then collapsing into a pile of tears. I had to wake my husband up and wail about Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace Lancaster and to this day, he still makes fun of me. If you haven’t read this book, what even are you doing with your life.
A Wrinkle in TimeBy Madeleine L’Engle
I’ve had a copy of this my entire life. I love the beginning of this story – it was a dark and stormy night – and I adore the awkward elegance of Meg Murray.
The NightingaleBy Kristin Hannah
More tears. The relationship between two sisters during WW2, one who finds a place for herself in the Resistance and the other who quietly tries to survive, is tragic and tense and a wonderful demonstration of what people do to stay alive.
Anne of Green GablesBy Lucy Maud Montgomery
Anne Shirley is one of my favourite characters in all literature. She is spunky and sassy and so full of life – she inspires me to live more fully, I’m grateful I found her growing up.

2&6?
hi thanks for the ask! 💕
2. top 5 books of all time?
my top five books let's see! i'll just do some off the top of my head, don't judge me too deeply, (i've read other books i swear i'm just too lazy to go get my hs journals where i wrote all of that down bc lbr goodreads kinda really sucks ass hehe) and i won't be including trc/tdt books bc like i Mean, *points at my 2022 tumblr blog*
the little prince by antoine de saint-exupéry (it makes me cry, it gives me hope and the movie is... just Yeah, wonderful)
tsoa (i love me some tragic gays, what can i say)
tiger lily by jodi lynn anderson (hs me would read super romantic het books and i'd stay up til like 4 am reading in our hot no a/c garage and it's still a great story re-telling of a classic tale, plus i'm bi and i loveee boys and girls and boys and gi-)
this one summer by mariko tamaki (it's a graphic novel but it's the best thing ever and it Changed the course of my life, reading it was like Therapy. i just love it so so much PLUS THE INK IS FUCKING BLUE!!!!!)
rose madder by stephen king (it was gifted to me by someone really special and i'm oddly comforted every time i open it and read it or when i see my horrible crooked highlighting and "wannabe" annotations)
6. what books have you read in the last month?
honestly, if we're talking april, it's all a blur to me seen as to i was still in uni BUT from what i remember, i tried to read This Is How You Lose the Time War but i couldn't get into it, not bc of the book but bc of Me. i enjoyed the poetic writing style and the trading of letters back and forth between red and blue, so i'm gonna try and get back to reading it once i'm done reading the current books i'm trying to knock off my list! buuuut i did finish re-listening to The Raven Boys audiobook in between doing hw for an art class and winding down for the day so ig that counts! 🥰 i say it counts so! 🥰

1-10 for the writing meme :0
1. Tell us about your WIP!Currently working out the details for Jeremy and Heilo's first meeting!2. Where is your favorite place to write? I usually write in my room because it's warm and quiet, but I love bringing my laptop to the couch when no one is home3. What is your favorite/least favorite part about writing? My favorite part is letting people read over my stuff for criticism (though it rarely happens c': ) but my least favorite is reading over my stuff myself bc... I'm overcritical lmao4. Do you have any writing habits/rituals? I usually turn off my lights and put my fairy lights on (ha) and turn on orchestra pieces5. Top five formative books? I don't think I've read a whole 5 formative ones necessarily, but I find that the "Pocket Muse" books by Monica Wood are super amazing and helpful when I'm stuck in a rut? They not only have interesting prompts, but lots of advice from finding an editor to stringing sentences together in a more appealing manner? I'd suggest them for anyone interested in writing stories.6. Favorite character you’ve written? Honestly? I love writing all of my characters bc I connect with all of them in some way, but Elias is personally one of my favorites because his story is one that I would find compelling as a reader? Like if I could pay someone else to write his story with what I've come up with as the bones, I would.7. Favorite/most inspirational book? I love The Song of Achilles and the All For The Game series on their own as really compelling stories, but I also just really love the way they were written? Tsoa takes poetic descriptions to a level of grace rather than the pretentious grave that seems to be the fate for most stories written that way, and Madeline Miller deserves recognition for the beauty she strung together for generations to come. The Foxhole court, however, goes in the complete opposite direction with very few deep descriptions and even fewer "poetic" lines, but when those lines DO come up, they light your heart up like a fucking firecracker. Nora Sakavic doesn't waste time in the series with anything that could be deemed unnecessary and she did this in a way that doesn't make her story seem too fast-paced. I read the entire series in a week and it only took that long because I had to ship 2 of the books on a holiday, this series DOES NOT disappoint. Nora's writing manages to take even soft moments and give them a rugged edge that reminds you throughout the series that these protagonists are fighting for their lives and that every small decision for them is the tipping point towards either survival or death. 8. Do you have any writing buddies or critique partners? Danny listens to me all the time talking about my shit (which I feel bad about) and I've told Darien about my stories before as ideas popped up. No one else cares lmao9. Favorite/least favorite tropes? Oh god ugh mostly just forced romances between some male character and the "only" female character??? (I'm looking at you Age of Ultron)10. Pick an author (or writing friend) to co-write a book withSo obviously Madeline Miller or Nora Sakavic. Ummm Dathan Auerbach, or Augusten Burroughs as well? They're cool.
