To find these words at journey's end fills me with joy

I'm absolutely over the moon. The Meteion cosplay we've been toiling on for months won Best in Show at CVG's masquerade.

The construction of this cosplay was crazy. It uses so many different techniques - gathers, pleats, 2 types of embroidery, hidden hooks, mitered corners, magnets, snaps, latex leggings, Velcro, EVA foam, dry brushing, sculpting, the list goes on. To have it all pay off to the highest degree possible is breathtaking. I can't even begin to communicate how crazy this costume is and how satisfying it was to have that recognized.

We weren't even able to show the judges every little detail with how much there is that goes into making this costume tick. For example, it's all based around flexibility - almost everything, even the armor bigs, is able to bend without ruining the paint job or breaking. Even the wings (which were made of 270 individually hand cut and scored feathers of foam) can get knocked on things without taking damage - magnets hidden beneath the wig keep them in place while keeping them loose enough to get bumped without any issue.

I can post the build book if people are interested, and I'll also have more photos to come. I just need to rest awhile before doing anything else @_@

Head to the Vaccination Station near Badge Pick-up (in the gap next to the stairs leading to the parking ramp) from 2:00pm – 7:00pm on Saturday, July 8. Tell your friends!

Any member under 18 will require the presence and permission of a parent or guardian to receive a vaccination. Safer sex supplies will also be available during the clinic!

So my taiko group, Harisen Daiko, just had our largest performance of the year today and the live stream recording is already available to watch! We debuted "Shunpuu" by Kodo. We also played a bunch of Bear McCreary song covers, it was awesome. Here, have the link to see for yourself!

Convergence!! Rambling

I don't know where else to dump this but my brain needs to empty itself so haha uhhhh hey

But usually and most of the time still I have a *really hard time* accepting compliments. I get all awkward and don't know what to say to them and just sort of follow a weird script of what I think I'm supposed to say.

This weekend, though, felt like it helped me cut through some of that with all of the compliments and kind things people were telling us. my partner and I sold at a local con over the weekend and everyone was so incredibly nice!!! It is unreal to me how someone could feel that way about what we do but then it sort of hit me.

If I keep putting myself down, I'm also unintentionally putting my partner down and that's not okay. I put our combined efforts down and that isn't okay either. I'm also putting down the people who take the time out of their day to support us with their kind words, and I'm not okay with that!!!

A part of me started to really believe what people were saying, or at the very least, could make a genuine attempt at having good faith in others when they gave us compliments and encouraged us. It was as though that part of me thought, "Okay but if you can't believe in yourself, then believe in others" (a la Gurren Lagann, I suppose) and so I just have to trust the process.

I have to trust that what I'm doing and where my work is at and where it's going and the efforts both my partner and I are putting into this little art studio is worth it and it's speaking to others and other people can see what all we're putting into it.

IT SOUNDS SO MUSHY, but it's definitely the vibe I'm getting? I don't know. I just wish I had the words to properly express how thankful I am to everyone and how much their words mean to me. I've been on this art journey for a long-ass time, and it feels good to know that what I do not only means something to me, but that it means something to someone else.
