okay here's the gist of it

Daisuke has been in love with Ken since middle school

Ken asks out Miyako in his 2nd year of high school (her 3rd year). They become a couple

When Daisuke finds out, he pretends to be supportive, but he stays late after school crying in an empty classroom

Takeru finds him and after a difficult conversation, discovers that Daisuke was in love with Ken, and that Daisuke is bisexual

Takeru is the only person who knows this. They become closer friends because of this

And learning about Daisuke's sexuality becomes a catalyst for Takeru's own discovery

Takeru spends their 2nd and 3rd years in high school trying to figure out his sexuality. He realizes he is generally attracted to men

Takeru tells Hikari. Hikari is super supportive and is the only person who knows about Takeru's sexuality, other than eventually Yamato, who is also supportive

They graduate, and a year or so goes by

The 02 squad have a picnic in the Digital World one day (they try to get together once per season) and Wallace is there too. Takeru notices that Daisuke is being kind of flirty? with Wallace? He's acting like has a huge crush on Wallace. This rubs Takeru the wrong way, because he has a feeling Daisuke is going to get his heart broken again

Sure enough, Wallace casually drops into conversation that he has a girlfriend (which is why he just can't flirt with Miyako and Hikari anymore)

Takeru watches the color drain from Daisuke's face, and Daisuke's entire peppy demeanor seems forced after that

A few days later, Takeru goes to a gay bar. He gets hit on by some men, but none of them are really his type (he has no idea what his type is, and he wants to find out).

To figure out what he wants in a partner, Takeru makes a Tinder profile. And... almost immediately finds Daisuke's profile. Daisuke's profile is sort of interesting-- he's got some sporty photos and some fun ramen chef photos and even some cute photos with V-mon. And his profile is entertaining and very "Daisuke".

Takeru swipes right on a whim, thinking that there's no way in hell Daisuke would ever swipe right on him. He doesn't even like Daisuke in that way. He just... wants to be a little chaotic and see what happens

A few days later, Takeru gets a notification that he has a match on Tinder. He's had a few dozen of these over the past few days, so he ignores it for about an hour

But THEN he gets a text from Daisuke like "WHAT GIVES???"

Takeru's like ?????

Daisuke: Why did you swipe right on my profile, dude!??

Takeru: The only way you could know that is if you swiped right on mine 👀

Daisuke: 😳

Takeru: 😂

Daisuke: Am I the only one taking this seriously?? Are you even like... you know... I mean you don't have to tell me, but...

Takeru: I'm gay, Daisuke. And your profile was fun. I wanted to see what would happen

They talk about Takeru realizing his sexuality back in high school, to which Daisuke says he wishes he knew, because he could have used a queer friend back then. Takeru says it was kind of because of Daisuke that he started thinking about his sexuality. Daisuke has no idea what to do with this information

Takeru asks Daisuke to dinner again, just for fun, and Daisuke agrees. They go out a few more times, as friends, and nothing really changes between them (nothing that they notice anyway)

At one point, they go to that gay bar Takeru tried out earlier, but they never seem to want to talk to anyone but each other

Takeru doesn't know why he's doing this, other than that it's fun to spend time with Daisuke.

Then they have another quarterly picnic with the rest of the 02 gang

Takeru and Daisuke think they are being subtle/normal, but pretty much everyone notices them flirting

Hikari catches Takeru alone and says she's really glad to see Takeru so happy with Daisuke. Takeru's like ?????

Hikari's like... aren't you dating Daisuke? I'm sorry, but it's really obvious that you like him

Takeru has an epiphany that he does like Daisuke. Maybe he's liked him for weeks, maybe he's like him for years. The only thing he can think to do is surreptitiously text Daisuke while they're still at the picnic, asking him to come over after they all go home

Daisuke looks up from his phone, raises his eyebrows at Takeru, and then grins at him

Daisuke shows up later at Takeru's apartment and Takeru feels a magnetic attraction to him. Takeru immediately pushes him against the wall. Daisuke's like oh hell yeah, and they make out

Daisuke: Dunno what took you so long, man. I told you weeks ago that I was into you

Takeru: You did?

Daisuke: And they call me oblivious. I told you when we first matched on Tinder! I said... wait hold on lemme find the exact text... "I guess I MUST want to grab dinner 'cause I'm CLEARLY into you"

Takeru: That was you telling me you were attracted to me? I thought that was weird texting sarcasm!

My head canon is the following: After they start dating, the other chosen kids (mostly Miyako and Mimi cause I can see them being the ones behind this hilarity) start calling them “daikeru” when referring to them together or as a couple. It eventually gets to the point where Chibimon and Patamon start running around the place when it’s just the four of them yelling, “DAIKERUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!” at the top of their lungs just to spite Daisuke because he gets all flustered and embarrassed and Takeru just giggles and kisses his precious blushing boyfriend.

Thinking up Digimon headcanon, like you do

I've solved the reason Takeru became a writer. Here's how a conversation with my best friend just went down. Me: sudden potential headcanon thought: Takeru secretly writes friend fiction about himself and Daisuke while he waits for Daisuke to realise his crush on Takeru, and this is the whole reason Takeru got into writing in the first place Her: Oh my gaaaaaaaaawwwwwwd yas It's really bad friend fiction too, like stephanie meyer level bad Me: yassss I can totally see that Her: Daisuke finds it one day after they've been dating for like 3 years Me: omg XDD and then starts contemplating if it's physically possible for them to recreate some of those positions? Digimon Adventure Shipping Masterpost - Part 5

I finally watched Last Evolution in all it’s 02 cameo glory, so lets knock this next part out.

Davis x Yolei (Daiyako)

Pros: Well they do have a lot of screen time together and Yolei is one of the few people who can match Davis’s chaotic energy. She can reel him back in when needed and he can give her a healthy dose of reality from time to time.  

Cons: They’re almost too temperamental for each other. They’re both quick to lose their temper or jump on some crazy scheme and drag each other along. It’d be a pretty tremulous relationship at best. 

Personal Rating (5/10) I can kind of see it, but like I also don’t get it, either. Like on the one hand they’re both entertaining individually so it stands to reason they they would be entertaining together. However there are other ships with both of them that I find far more engaging. This is the very definition of a neutral ship for me. 

Davis x Cody (Daiori)

Pros: This is very much an opposites attract type of ship; but with a slight antagonistic flair. They aren’t rivals so much as they just don’t put up with each others’ bullshit. There’s a healthy respect and communication present that allows them to poke holes in the others’ egos and challenge each other other without it devolving into a petty fight every time. 

Cons: They don’t really have any common interests and rarely hang out one on one together. Also neither shows any romantic feelings for each other. 

Personal Ranking (4/10) I can respect their dynamic but as far being ship worthy it’s pretty low on the list. Though it is one of the better Cody ships. 

Davis x Ken (Daiken)

Pros: This is pretty much typifies what people are looking for when they say they like enemies to lovers ships. This unconditional acceptance even though the other person saw you at your worst. Davis is 1,000% behind Ken as soon as he gives up being the Digimon Emperor. This isn’t to say Davis ‘saves’ Ken. No, Ken does that himself and works for his own redemption, but Davis is there the whole way supporting him as he does it.  

Cons: Obviously if you have a preference for found family or like other ships with these two better, I can see why you might prefer them as just friends. There’s also a prevalence in fandom of woobiefying Ken too much and turning Davis into his ‘savior’ even though that’s not how they are in cannon.   

Personal Ranking (7/10) It took me along time for me to warm up to this pairing because I’m such a Daikari fan, but once I discovered the joys of multishipping it was only a matter of time before the brilliance of this ship hit me. I still like Daikari more, and in truth I’m not always onboard with fandom’s’ interpretation of them, but when done right there’s a lot to work off of here. 

Davis x Willis (Wasuke)

Pros: They got great chemistry with one another and Davis is the character that Willis hangs out with the most in the movie. As such they balance each other out pretty well.  

Cons: This ship is kind of a fusion of both Daiken and Daikeru, and as such can some time come across as a very watered down version of those pairings. Also Willis is a very flat character. 

Personal Ranking (6/10) It’s easily the best ship involving Willis and of course Davis makes everything entertaining 

Yolei x Cody (Iyako)

Pros: They’re very close friends who have known each other for years, even before the whole Digimon thing. They have a lot of common interests, they get along well, and they hang out together on their down time. Like other 02 ships, they’re only a couple of years apart. You can either go with a one sided crush with lots of yearning or childhood friends to lovers. Both work. 

Cons: Yolei obviously doesn’t see him in that way. Her feelings could change later over time, but in 02 she sees him as another ‘little brother’. Cody for his part also shows little interest in romance in general. 

Personal Ranking (5/10) Easily the best Cody ship out there, as it has the most to work off of. Still I think I prefer him to headcanon him as ace since seeing Last Evolution. 

Yolei x Ken (Kenyako)

Pros: This is the most outright cannon ship in the series. The epilogue clearly states that they wind up married with kids. Even before then, Yolei has a very obvious crush on Ken. Which evolves into a mutual friendship post redemption. As for their dynamic, it’s very much the shy boy with the assertive girlfriend trope.  

Cons: Yeah it’s endgame, but the execution getting there leaves a lot to be desired. For better or for worse, Yolei loses any infatuation for Ken once it’s revealed that he’s the Digimon Emperor. Once he’s redeemed, they do patch things up and become friends, but there’s never any expressed interest in the other until the epilogue hits us like a truck. 

Personal Ranking (6/10) I like the potential behind the ship more so than the way it played out on screen. There’s something very appealing in having a realization that your crush might not be all that, have a falling out, only to eventually work towards becoming friends, gain some respect for each other, and overtime develop an even deeper bond than before. That’s very real, and very interesting. But you got to do most of the work for the writers inside your own head. 

Yolei x Michael (Miyamichael)

Pros: There’s clearly an attraction there. Yolei drools over the guy all episode long and in the end he returns her feelings by asking her out on a date. 

Cons: Michael is a pretty boring character. He’s just generally nice and pleasant and that’s all there is too him. 

Personal Ranking (2/10) It’s cute in the one episode that it’s in, but over all is a very dull ship. 

Yolei x Willis (Wayako) 

Pros: Yolei crushes on him, he flirts with her, and he kisses her once 

Cons: little screen time, it doesn’t go anywhere, and Willis it’s that interesting of a character. 

Personal Ranking (3/10) Willis is at least better than Michael. That’s enough to bump it up a point. 

Yolei x Jun (Junyako)

Pros: Another potential lesbian ship in a series that’s sorely lacking female leads. It’s two headstrong, enthusiastic, and powerful women teaming up. It has all kinds of possibilities for both drama and comedy.   

Cons: They barely interact in the show. They’ve obviously met and know who the other is, but they don’t really hangout or anything. They’re also a little too similar in personality 

Personal Ranking (4/10) I’m fairly certain that I just created this ship. I saw some petty, misogynistic folks bashing these two once, and went “You know what? Fuck you! I’ll ship them both now and you can’t stop me haters! Bawawawa!” However, out side of pissing off spiteful fans there’s really very little reason to ship this. But hey, trolling sexists pigs online is fun so I’m still down for these two.

Everytime I see someone else that ships Daikeru, I’m filled with this light and do a tiny nerdgasm and I also feel like I have to ask them for any super fluffy and/or (if your up for it) smutty headcanons. Care to help a fellow shipper out?

Hello! It’s nice to see another Daisuke/Takeru shipper out in the wild here! Sadly I can’t help you much with the smut because it’s not my personal cup of tea (no shade against those who do it, it’s just not something I can specialize in) so you’ll have to take the other headcanons instead. Hopefully that’s good for now!

In regards to Digimon, where we’re talking about kids who were in elementary school as protagonists, I have a very hard time seeing them entertaining anything really serious until some years later (I feel like the existence of the epilogue and now Kizuna really helps stimulate the imagination, haha). This leads me to think less in terms of “are they into each other now?” and more “do I think they’d be able to get together in the future?” Which means that a lot of this is really theoretical, and because these kids really did love (loosely using the word “love” here) and respect and care for each other so much in the end, I don’t think of it in terms of “I see it happening/I don’t see it happening” (with the exception of a few that hit some “okay no” taboos for me) as much as I like to look at it in terms of, what would it take to for them to build a proper relationship in the future? And if those “requirements” are things I can easily write or get behind, then it becomes a ship I vibe with and like to write about 😅

Generally you want some kind of attraction (otherwise you might as well classify that as a very deep platonic relationship), and you also need the ability to maintain a relationship -- as in, a long-term, ongoing relationship with proper communication. Can you resolve disputes easily and have proper mutual understanding? That kind of thing.

I had a few reasons for taking an interest in Daisuke/Takeru, one in that it’s recently gotten quite popular on Pixiv and has led to some very adorable comics that bring out a beautifully wonderful tsundere side out of Daisuke, and two in that my last rewatch of 02 left me emerging feeling like Takeru had been trying to flirt with Daisuke the whole series, only for Daisuke to be too dense to notice. This only escalated with the recent Kizuna BD digipak cover, which has Takeru clearly enjoying teasing Daisuke a little too much like 02 was only yesterday. But really, the very first episode had Takeru calling Daisuke’s goggles cool right after meeting him and then teasing him “you’re so funny~”...so I think it’s pretty clear he finds Daisuke very amusing. Plus, Daisuke is the sort who’s straightforward, and honest, and that kind of transparent honesty is probably very appealing for Takeru, who himself has a lot of trouble being entirely honest with himself under the playful exterior.

On Daisuke’s end, things are a little more complicated -- I personally do take the stance that his interest in Hikari as of 02 is genuine (he’s not wrong, she is cute and nice), but that a lot of his trying to endear himself to her is based on the fact he was also very needy for validation during the series, and, not really knowing her all that emotionally well, he never really put proper thought into the “now what?” if he did manage to get her favor. But that’s something that I think he’s capable of settling out as he gets older and more mature, and especially since the events of 02 left him with a proper friend group that he can get that validation from. Because of that, I feel like he would definitely be able to stop being so defensive and maybe start more honestly accepting that Takeru’s just teasing and that he really does like him. Moreover, Takeru is playful, endearing, and good-looking, so all of those are appealing characteristics that I don’t see why Daisuke couldn’t eventually start getting into it. But of course, because he’s still trying to grow out of that abrasive exterior, that’s where the tsundere comes from -- he’ll take a hell of a time to admit it! That kind of banter is really appealing to me, especially because I love the pining aspect of the attraction portion, so that’s why it became something I personally like thinking about and working with.

Long-term relationship-wise, I do think there’s actually a solid base, even with what we have now. The 02 kids in general learned to trust each other a lot, and the good thing about Daisuke is that, because he’s so straightforward and so willing to reach out to others, he’s actually pretty up there in people who can be able to get through the maze of emotions that is Takeru (the fact that he wasn’t particularly invested in it during 02 is probably why Iori had to do it instead, but if you could get Daisuke up to it, he may actually do a pretty good job getting to the heart of things). So it means that if a dispute or a conflict of feelings happened, Daisuke is capable of the kind of emotional outreach needed to get to the heart of the problem, and it means they could probably get through a lot of things together with a lot of success.

(By the way, this is a side note, but I’m totally willing to try an analysis like this for a good number of the Adventure and 02-based ships, even if it’s not one I usually write for! Anything with a 2 year age gap or less and doesn’t involve Iori -- not that I don’t have absolute confidence in my son’s future relationship prospects, but more that I feel that with him at literally nine years old during 02 and with everyone in elementary/middle school, the age gaps in question were large enough that it had a significant impact for kids of that age, leaving me in a situation where I don’t feel personally comfortable even doing future projections.)

Headcanon-wise, I was recently planning out what high schools I thought the 02 kids would go to and headcanon ended up putting them in the same school (it actually wasn’t because of the ship, but rather something I figured based on what everyone’s likely academic tracks would be). I think that would be a lot of really good bonding time for them to hang out and for Daisuke to get some “alone time” with Takeru outside Hikari’s reach, so that Takeru could properly reach out to him...and maybe train himself on how to flirt with Daisuke without setting off his defense mechanisms. It also means that Takeru has a lot more opportunities to be kinder to and dote on Daisuke -- again, 02 established that everyone in the group really does respect and care about each other a lot, and these two are no exception -- so I really do think that time for Daisuke to mature a little bit and time for them to bond without other people to take away either of their attention would be really helpful here.

In which I out myself as a chaotic multi-shipper and annoy half of this fandom by tagging them because everyone makes such great posts. If I mentioned your @ and you want me to remove it, please tell me so I can do it right away!

I’m insufferable when it comes to exploring all kinds of characters' interactions, and I don’t take ‘being a shipper’ very seriously. (But I do have my favorites). At this point, I’m past apologizing for not picking only one.

Under the cut, because this is a LONG post. 

♥️ I shipped Hikari and Takeru before I knew what shipping was, and that’s just how life be sometimes. The reason I started learning English outside of regular classes in school was so I could read fanfic of them as a tween. As of now, I’m more interested in them as 'strongly connected to each other and let’s have a good time figuring out the nature of that connection.’ I think they have a lot of potential as a couple. When they were kids, I think their bond was more inclined to sibling-like, especially when they were glued to Taichi and Yamato. Then, around 02 era, it changed a little, and I think Takeru fell for her (firstly in an ANNOYING, ‘protector’ kinda way, like he’s still protecting her because Taichi asked him to, zzzzzz, and then in a more genuine way), but she still saw him as her childhood best friend like-a-brother-to-me-he’s-kinda-cute-though-but-we-don’t-have-time-to-unpack-all-that-there’s-a-lot-of-shit-going-down.  AND THEN, there’s Tri., and I love their dynamic. They’re flirty buddies, they’re intimate, they tease each other and love each other, and I think Hikari is finally realizing that her feelings aren’t just friendly anymore — they haven’t been for a while now. I headcanon that the more she becomes emotionally independent of Taichi, the more she realizes that what she has with Takeru is different. They would start off as BEST-friends-with-benefits when they’re in college, like 19-21yo, for a little while because they’re hesitating to change their dynamic, and then they just say fuck it, we’re in love, let’s see where this take us. Yey! They’re THE power couple. I’ll die as Takari trash, I suppose. I’m good with that.

♥️ I REALLY LIKE MIYAKARI, THEY’RE FJFFJfucking great together. I think they balance each other very well, much better than Takeru and Hikari, and, like Takari, it’s both a romantic ship and a brotp for me. Miyako brought out a side of Hikari we had never really seen before, and it’s the first time she has a horizontal relationship with another girl. (I don’t think she’s particularly close to Mimi, and she’s definitely Sora’s little sister at heart.) It might sound weird, but I’m glad the writers allowed someone to be annoyed at Hikari. It makes the whole thing a lot more human, more believable. Most people care for her in a mostly protector sort of way and then Miyako STRAIGHT-UP SLAPS HER (don’t do this in your irl relationships kiddos) and tells her she’s always gonna be there for her, not because Hikari is weak or fragile or whatever, but because they’re equals, they help each other not to get lost in themselves, they make each other stronger and wiser. Miyako is a very anxious character and Hikari grounds her. Hikari is ALSO a very anxious character and Miyako helps her let it out. Fuck yes.

♥️ DAIKEN!!!!!!! I could go on a rant about them, but @ladyanatui​ already did, better than I ever could. Look at this post that’s basically a Daiken reference guide and Bible.

♥️ Jyoumi makes me so, so happy. The bit in Adventure when they stay together, parted from the others...........dude..........good shit. They respect each other very much by then, and they’re very, very caring, in their own ways. Mimi’s speech in Adventure of how she refuses to engage in the war she was destined to and wants to find her own way to fight and Jyou immediately volunteering to stay behind with her is one of my favorite moments. The kid wants to be a doctor, he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. Mimi inspires him to actively choose a more peaceful option instead of just being in the middle of Yamato and Taichi’s drama, Jyou inspires her to be more level-headed without losing her spark, and together they’re one of the sweetest yet kind-of-unexpected duos I’ve ever seen. They’re good friends in Tri., which is a bit sad but also works for me just fine.

♥️ Taishiro is mostly a brotp for me, but also yay. Supportive boyfriends. They stole medicine from an abandoned fake Hospital together in one of the most emotional episodes of the series. Good content.

♥️ Kenkari is mostly a brotp for me, but also yay part 2. They obliterate the Dark Ocean’s ruler together while having the same haircut (I’m ignoring Kizuna!Ken’s hair length). Name a cuter date, I dare you.

♥️ I like Daikeru and Kenkeru basically the same amount. I love the idea of Takeru and Daisuke getting to know each other better, the idea of Daisuke losing his shit because he’s falling for his ‘rival’ and Takeru and Ken being that infuriatingly attractive couple who actually has a very deep relationship that started off as bonding over similar traumas. 

♥️ Meikari, anyone? I always hoped that, if we got something like Tri., a character that represented ‘Darkness’ would get introduced and they’d have an interesting dynamic with Hikari, because Darkness is just as important to the Universe as Light, and it would be interesting to see these two disagreeing, agreeing, being repulsed by the other and then drawn together, a ‘twilight’ sort of situation. That...didn’t happen in Tri., but the heart wants what it wants. I totally recognize it’s a fanon thing and ooc Meiko, though. I wish they had had more meaningful/complementary interactions. Their partners almost killed everyone, where’s their closure?! 

♥️ Koumi is adorable. So is Kenyako, and I can’t wait for them to interact in Kizuna!

Oh, thank you so much! I’m really pleased to hear youliked my Michi rec post. ♡ (*Here* it is for those who want to check it out.)

To be honest, it’s really not easy to make a top fiveof Michi fics for two reasons: 1. I love way more than five Michi fics and it’dbe difficult to rank them. 2. I’ve been reading Michi fics ever since 2004.Granted I haven’t read every single one of them. And there are so many stories that I really, really loved but have been deleted in that twelve year time span. (I’m going to include those anyways, though.)

Let’s give it a try…

I’d first like to discuss a few Michi stories I reallylike that just didn’t make the cut to my top five, but still deserve a special mention:

⚘Thin Lines byHemsee Apparently this got deleted? I only found out about this yesterday, because I started checking the links on my Michi masterpost, but evidently it’s been deleted instead. Which is unfortunate because I was really eager to know how the relationship between Taichi and Mimi would further develop. Plus, Hemsee really has a clean, beautiful writing style that is so wonderful to read. I hope she creates a new multi-chaptered Michi story, though. 

⚘ All Good Things by Hemsee Luckily, her Michi oneshot is still there. It tells the story of how Mimi and Taichi’s relationship developed throughout the years since their childhood and how they gradually fell in love and got together. 

⚘ anchor me back down by dianaagronSimilarly to “All Good Things”, this story follows their relationship from the very beginning, since kindergarten, in a wonderful will they/won’t they-kind of way, to their mid-twenties. While I do love both stories (what can I say, I’m a major sucker for slow-burns), I do prefer ambd over agt. Plus how can anyone dislike a story inspired by that beautiful song by Mindy Gledhill?

⚘ Snow by hello heartbreak I recently re-read this story and loved it just as much as I did ten years ago. Ngl it hurts seeing my beloved Chosen in such pain, but this story is so touching. I also believe this is the fic that generated my headcanon that Mimi would have trouble transferring back to Japan and have trouble speaking/studying the language. Lo and behold, ten years later that headcanon actually came true in tri! 

⚘ Buttons by BenignUser This story is just so adorable! It makes me melt every time I read it. (I believe I’ve read this oneshot five times. What is my life, haha?) But really, it’s so fun, so cute and definitely worth your while. 

⚘ keep it classy by hellyeahayumichan This is a collection of four (slightly nsfw) drabbles for Michi, Sorato, Takari and Kenyako. It’s just such a great read! I really admire the subtle descriptions. Hellyeahayumichan has such a way with words. (And even though it’s not fic, I highly, highly recommend checking out her Michi art! Each and every one of her drawings are amazing. I envy her colouring skills in particular.)

⚘ Parallels by Scripturiens There are no words to describe how amazing this artwork is. And I stress the word art, because it’s really an interesting exercise in writing by putting the different pieces out of order so that all the nuances of the thoughts and the actions of the characters come together with such care. Amazing structure aside, it’s a nice piece that so wonderfully conveys emotion, especially heartbreak. I love it so much, and now I want to go re-read it….

⚘ Whispers at night by ribbonedcuriosa To this day I’m still so happy I requested a Digimon story set in the Star Wars universe from ribbonedcuriosa, because she took it and fabricated this lovely ficlet. She merged both franchises so fluently, it’s inspiring. The Michi is subtle here, but I love subtle implied pairings when it comes to the adventure genre. I honestly crave more of this story. Forever crossing my fingers for a continuation.

After contemplating long and hard over it, I now present you my TOP FIVE MICHI STORIES:

05 ⚘What Women Want by StarlillyWe start of with one of the most popular Michi fics on FF.net. And that’s understandable, because this story is so much fun! I believe I started reading it not long, just a couple of months, after it was completed. I’m even planning on re-reading after finals, so my little review here is based on my memory of when I read it late 2005. 

First there is something I have to confess (again, I’m sure I’ve stated this before, but just to be clear I’ll state it once more) that I don’t really like it when authors use the dubbed names in fics. I prefer reading Taichi Yagami over Tai Kamiya, very much so. I didn’t like it back when I started reading Michi fics in 2004/2005 and I still don’t now. That said, I won’t turn a fic down because the author chose to use the dubbed names. I do like to give it at least a try. (I sound so picky now…) And in this case: I loved the “What Women Want” film back then (still do, I rewatched it this year), so there was no way I wouldn’t read a Michi fic based on that film. And honestly, Starlilly took the premise and really made it her own while developing the relationship between Taichi and Mimi so well. 

04 ⚘ Falling’s not the problem by ribbonedcuriosaAhhhh, this story is so good! I was eagerly awaiting the next part to beta each time because it’s just so good. I absolutely love how curiosa jumped back and forth from past to present to showcase how Mimi and Taichi got to the point where they were in the beginning and how their lives further developed since then. And she did it so fluidly. Also her characterizations of both Taichi and Mimi are so well-done. 

03 ⚘Come to Me by Pied Piper + Only Alive by Pied PiperI’m sure you all knew beforehand that at least one Pied Piper story would make my top five, and here’s the first one… Sorry, first two. Okay, I know I’m cheating here by putting both these stories on the number three slot and therefore haven’t whittled my list down to five fics but six. But for the life of me, I can not chose between these two! 

I’ll talk about Come to Me first. I really love this story so much because it’s so real, so relatable. There were so many moments where I just nodded understandingly, because it was so realistic. And I talked before how I love slow-burns, well, this fic is one of the ultimate slow-burns I’ve ever read. I really enjoyed reading about their journey from how they became friends first to actually falling for each other, but being apprehensive first considering they were still dealing with their heartbreak from a previous relationship, to finally arriving at their destination together which felt so earned. It was so beautiful beyond comprehension. (PS: I still have a half-finished fanart of it lying around.)

Moving onto Only Alive now… I’m confident my good friend Sunny is going to love the fact that I included this fic into my top three. Back in the beginning of 2009 when we discovered our mutual passion for digimon as well for Michi through a meme on my livejournal (we befriended over Avatar first), she told me that this was her most favourite Michi story. Somehow I hadn’t read it then yet. (Seriously, what was wrong with me?) So, at her recommendation, I read the first chapter and I immediately wrote back to her that I was in love with this story already. There was a certain passage in the first chapter that stood out to me, because it was the perfect Michi interaction:

So he asked her to dinner, sending a written apology note down to her small cubicle several stories below his feet.

She replied almost instantly: Jackass. 

He responded: Pick you up at eight? 

She agreed: Buy me flowers, too. 

Ah, Mimi, Mimi. How he missed someone who could talk back without fear. Welcome home, he grinned to himself.

To me, Michi is so compatible, because their personalities just go well together. They’re both headstrong but they’re both also very passionate and kind. I love seeing them portrayed with the whole “love to tease you” dynamic. And that passage in OA is an excellent example of that. Honestly, Pied Piper has such an exquisite grasp on these characters. I knew then that this fic was going to be splendid, and boy, did it deliver! I read it in the course of three evenings.

I will forever love both these stories. Then again I will forever love all the stories Pied Piper wrote. Just thinking about them makes me want to re-read every single one of them (except that I sadly lost a couple over the years…) 

02 ⚘ Creative License by R.vdPI’m kind of cheating again, haha, because technically this wasn’t really Michi. Daikeru, a ship I love so much next to Michi (thanks to this fic actually), was the main pairing of this story, but Michi was definitely heavily featured. But I just loved this story so much! Unfortunately it was deleted several years ago. (Around 2007, iirc.) 

That being said, I still feel lucky to have read this story. I can’t begin to explain how amazing it was! It was so cleverly constructed. Each chapter focused on a certain aspect of the story, and with each chapter we learned more and more what happened to these characters in the past and how they’re ultimately connected to other characters. It was all intricately interwoven. The writing style was also so crisp, so poetic, so inspiring. Plus, while the Michi was very angsty, it was very hot. I still haven’t read a nsfw Michi that came close to their scenes in this story. 

01 ⚘ My Captain’s Lady by Pied PiperIs there any surprise that MCL is my ultimate favourite? 

The truth is: This isn’t just my favourite Michi fic. This isn’t even just my favourite Digimon fic. This is my ultimate favourite fic ever.

It was the very first fic that got me so hooked. I started reading MCL after chapter fifteen or so (don’t remember the exact chapter anymore, since y’know, it was eleven years ago) and kept checking for the next update. It was really bad with the final chapter, because it was New Year’s Eve and I continuously pressed refresh so eagerly awaiting the update and then when it was finally there I read it between the different courses of dinner. 

I loved it so much that I was raving about it non-stop to my best friend that she, who hadn’t watched a single episode of digimon, even wanted to read it. So I lend her my binder of MCL and I like that she texted me her thoughts a few times. I kept those texts, even after ten years, until I had to buy a new phone last summer. 

Sentimental experiences aside, the story itself is just so epic. It had everything: an intriguing plot, an amazing build-up, lots of suspense and action, and of course a compelling romance between Taichi and Mimi. Once again, the journey of the characters and their relationship was so moving and so captivating. And I loved every step of the way.

I recently gotten into daikeru which lead me into daikenkeru and daiken... and was wondering if u have any headcannon on them

First of all, this ask is amazing. It encompasses all the best ships. Secondly, I’m not sure which of these you’re looking for headcanons of, so I’ll just do all three of them.

Just a heads up, as with most of my headcanons, these take place when they are ADULTS (Kizuna-era and beyond). I won’t post any explicit headcanons here, but I might be persuaded to write explicit fic......🤫

Daikeru:

I’ll post a bonus one here: Jun makes a surprise visit to Daisuke’s apartment while Daisuke has Takeru over for a date. Daisuke is too embarrassed to explain to Jun what’s going on, but she gets V-mon to spill the beans. Then she stays for dinner anyway, much to Daisuke’s chagrin. Takeru thinks it’s really funny

Daiken:

Daisuke is annoyed at how Ken never seems to react when Daisuke flirts with him. He makes up a fake boyfriend to get Ken jealous. Ken sees through this really easily and realizes Daisuke likes him

Daisuke brings Ken lunch to his office at Digimon Criminal Affairs every once in a while. People at the office start thinking Daisuke is Ken’s boyfriend, and Ken doesn’t correct them. Ken has a really bad day, and Daisuke randomly chooses that day to bring him lunch. Ken kisses him on the cheek

Daisuke loves when Ken grows his hair out. The firsts time Daisuke runs his fingers through Ken’s long hair, he tries to be sneaky about it and pretends like he’s putting a friendly arm around Ken’s shoulders. The second time Daisuke touches Ken’s hair, his hand lingers and Ken’s heartbeat races the whole time. Daisuke of course hears his heartbeat and realizes Ken may have feelings for him

Ken likes when Daisuke has some stubble. When they start dating, he finds himself drawn to kissing Daisuke’s jaw when Daisuke forgets to shave

Daikenkeru:

The three of them host a youtube show together where they drink and read questions about Digimon and the Digital World sent to them on social media. Takeru knows a lot of Digimon history, Ken knows a lot of Digital World geography, and Daisuke brings a lot of energy to the show (also he picks the questions). Ken doesn’t drink, so he has the job of keeping the other two in check. It can get a little over the top the longer a taping session goes on. The camera crew ships all three of them. (god I need fanart of this youtube verse so bad).

BASED ON THIS POST -- Daisuke pretends to get drunk, then pretends to need Ken to carry him home, and Takeru records it on his phone while trying to get Daisuke to sing stupid songs. But when they drop Daisuke off at his apartment, they find out he was faking being drunk and he just wanted Ken and Takeru to come over. Hijinks and more ensue.

Daisuke is annoyed at how Takeru and Ken are either oblivious to or completely ignore his flirting. He wants them both. He decides to ask Takeru to be his fake boyfriend in order to win over Ken, and then he asks Ken to be his fake boyfriend to win over Takeru. Daisuke thinks this plan will work, and it does, just not the way he expected it to. Ken doesn’t like the idea of making others jealous, so he just asks Takeru point blank if he’s interested in Daisuke. Takeru says yes, and finds the whole charade hilarious. Daisuke notices them together and thinks they’re on a date with each other, barges in, and gets jealous. Some other stuff happens, some lessons are learned, and idk they start a poly relationship with the understanding that jealousy is not healthy for any of them

Hikari and Miyako start dating, throwing Daisuke, Takeru, and Ken for a loop. During the course of a conversation with the girls, Miyako tells the three boys to just start dating each other for god’s sake

Surprise Fourth Option - Kenkeru!

Takeru buys Ken Sherlock Holmes-style detective hat for Christmas and Ken secretly loves it

I love exploring the idea that they weren't necessarily close as kids or teens, but that they find common ground as adults and grow closer in their 20s

One I've already done fanart and fanfic of is the idea that when they become really friendly with each other, Daisuke wears Takeru's hat and Takeru wears Daisuke's orange sunglasses as a joke

Daisuke loves ruffling Takeru's messy hair when he takes his hat off. And Takeru loves how surprisingly soft Daisuke's hair is

Takeru develops a massive crush on Daisuke after Daisuke comes out to their group. Like he's never ever had a crush like this before and he has no idea what to do about it because he's an adult and can't act like a kid with a crush anymore. He tries to play it cool, since he's a chill guy. But Hikari notices immediately

Takeru gets jealous when he realizes Daisuke has a crush on Wallace. So he decides to do something about it: he tells Daisuke he's bisexual pretty soon after Daisuke comes out to everyone. Takeru leans in and whispers in Daisuke's ear: "I just wanted you specifically to know that. You know just because. Just in case..." Once Takeru leaves the room, Daisuke's face turns red. "Oh, he meant to say 'just in case you're interested'..." And boy does Daisuke become interested...

Daisuke CANNOT stop staring at Takeru after he realizes Takeru likes him. It's a hell of a feeling when you know someone is attracted to you

Daisuke, with his infinite courage, asks Takeru out on the exact same day Takeru was planning on asking him out

A combination of some headcanons I've already mentioned is that I love the idea of Daisuke dunking on Takeru for his hat collection. And so when they go on a first date, Takeru would wear one of these hats just to spite him (I'm partial to the Slim Jim hat)

Takeru doesn't know how to match Daisuke's energy sometimes, and Daisuke doesn't often know how to stay as chill as Takeru. But they balance each other out the longer they are together

When Takeru tells Yamato he has a boyfriend he's really serious about, Yamato wants to meet him. And when Takeru tells him it's Daisuke, Yamato is initially really surprised. Takeru's like "um, are you cool with that?" and Yamato apologizes for his reaction and is like "Actually I think I approve of Daisuke more than any other guy you could ever date."

The first time they kiss in front of their friends, it's at the ramen restaurant Daisuke works at. Takeru has to leave early and he grabs Daisuke's hand, pulls him in for a quick smooch, and then leaves with a wink. Daisuke is dazed and doesn't realize for a moment that they just kissed in front of everyone. He just stands there grinning at the door until Ken clears his throat

This is something I'm currently attempting to turn into a ficlet: At Yamato's wedding, Takeru wants more than anything to dance with his boyfriend at the reception, but Takeru isn't out to his extended family. Takeru is initially worried that Daisuke will be upset with him for not wanting to dance with him-- that somehow not dancing with him is a sign that he's ashamed of their relationship. But Daisuke is extremely understanding and tells Takeru that he doesn't need to prove to anyone that he loves him. The reception is outside, and they find a small secluded gazebo and dance together there for a while to music Daisuke plays on his phone speakers

They start living together 3 years into their relationship. When Daisuke moves to America, Takeru follows him happily, since he's able to write his novels from anywhere

Daisuke cooks for Takeru every chance he gets, and they spend hours in the kitchen while Takeru reads passages from his novel drafts and Daisuke desperately tries to get Takeru to make him sound "cooler" in his novels

Daisuke can't come up with any good pet names for Takeru. It's always "blondie" or "Hattie McHatterson" or "loser (affectionate)". Of course Daisuke blushes and loses all composure whenever Takeru calls him "Honey"

Daisuke's ramen cart gains a huge following of queer people in NYC. They always hear talk about his mythical "cute boyfriend". And when some of his regulars finally get a glimpse of Takeru, they're like "OMG Mr. Motomiya your boyfriend is too fashionable". On Daisuke and Takeru's anniversary, some of his regulars help him find a really trendy looking outfit. When Takeru sees it he laughs and says "you're not the guy I married!" and Daisuke's like "that's pretty spot on, blondie, since we aren't married."

So they get married

I’m finally answering this after a billion months 😭 I’m so sorry about the wait!

The thing about Daikeru is that I can’t stop thinking about it, even if I barely have any new headcanons— they’ve just been living rent-free as a couple in my brain since July. But maybe I do have a new headcanon or two:

Takeru likes to put his arm around Daisuke’s waist and lean down to kiss his temple, but he always just gets a mouthful of Daisuke’s sideburn thingys.

Daisuke used to steal Takeru’s hat just to mess with him, but now (in their 30s), Daisuke steals the hat because he loves poking fun at Takeru’s mullet 🤣 (Daisuke secretly loves that hairstyle though)

For Daikenkeru, I can really only think of one new headcanon:

Daisuke dates both of them, and has no idea that Ken and Takeru message each other about him constantly. That is until one day Takeru accidentally texts the group chat between the three of them instead of his private chat with Ken, and says something like “ken just fyi daisuke’s ass looks great in the pants he has on today, in case you needed to know that 😉”. He deletes it really quickly but Daisuke screenshots it and never lets either of them live it down

Do u have any headcannon of daikeru hangout with each others partners?

Sure! I don't have a lot of headcanons about this, but here are a few off the top of my head:

Daisuke loves to make ramen orders that are specific and special to his friends' tastes. He gets hilariously frustrated when Patamon always orders the same thing as Takeru, and says 'everything is his favorite'. Daisuke is on a mission to find out Patamon's favorite ramen

When Takeru and Patamon move in with Daisuke and Chibimon, Chibimon offers Takeru his own bedroom to use as a home office. Takeru is concerned about this, because he expects to be up late into the night writing all the time. But every night at 9PM, Chibimon walks into the office and (kindly) kicks Takeru out so he can go to sleep. This sort of forces Takeru into having healthier sleeping habits

Sometimes Takeru will emerge from his writing cave to see Daisuke asleep on the couch with Patamon curled up in his lap

Sometimes Daisuke will come home from a shift at the restaurant, and Chibimon will make a beeline for Takeru's office so he can ask him about the chapter he's writing because 'it's like a fun bedtime story'

Chibimon has a fight with Daisuke and decides to hide in Takeru's hat closet. Takeru talks him out of being mad by letting him ride on Takeru's head underneath a hat.

Daisuke finally does figure out what Patamon's favorite item on his menu is-- mango mochi ice cream.
