Hermione knew when the war comes, she should have certain boxes checked in advance. She didn't expect to fall for the person she propositioned, someone who only earned the role because he was (a) fit and (b) not a friendship she'd be risking with a good shag. Now they're hiding it from Harry, Ron, and everyone else, while Draco balances his growing obsession with Hermione alongside his mission deadline to allow a Death Eater breach of the castle. Featuring possessive and dangerous Draco, BAMF Hermione, jealous Ron, good friend Ginny, double/triple/quadruple agent Snape, good Slytherins (Theo, Pansy, and Blaise) and very, very bad ones, and a little T.S. Eliot. Still to come: castle invasion, locket retrieval, ill-fated camping, snake encounters, and Horcrux hunting - complete with all the toxic infestation and mental poisoning the Horcruxes bring along for the ride.

the exchange with Draco at the Quidditch Cup while the Death Eaters are marauding around is so fascinating. On the one hand Draco's being rather horrible.

but on the other hand if you take out the insults and look at what he actually says he does warn them quite strongly several times that they need to get Hermione out of harm's way. he even specifically notes that the Death Eaters will head towards them and that Hermione is in particular danger since they will know her blood status (of course because Lucius is among them and will recognize her).

I don’t think Draco would admit even to himself that he's doing more than gloating but already I think a part of him is a bit conflicted and while the idea of what the Death Eaters stand for seems exciting to him (and is something he's been taught to support), the reality of seeing them actually attack someone he knows makes him uncomfortable.

he's probably grown up around very dehumanizing attitudes about Muggles but Hermione is someone he knows and deep down I think he realizes that she is most definitely a person and while taunting her is one thing, actually seeing harm come to her or to Ron and Harry (who would certainly try to help if she were attacked) doesn't appeal to him the way he's been taught it should.

It’s so strange to me when people say Draco was definitely not abused by his parents in canon. It strikes me as a very limited definition of abuse. Draco was spoiled and pampered and babied by his family. That doesn’t preclude the possibility of his having been abused (he certainly doesn’t have a secure attachment with Lucius and we barely see him interact with Narcissa).

Is inviting a mass murderer to live in your home with your teenage son a healthy, uplifting parenting choice, for instance? Is Draco free to live his life in accordance with what makes him happy, or is there the possibility of being cut off and rejected and denied if he does something his parents don’t like? Has he perhaps been living with this possibility for his entire life, since before he can even remember? If Draco wanted to marry a muggleborn or a man or remain childless or unmarried, would he be free to do so without being disowned like his mother’s sister?

Wizarding Blood-Purity is a Sham

I think that a lot of people forget that Salazar Slytherin wasn't racist.

And no, before you go all crazy on me just remember in the second book, when fear and anger and all kinds of emotions were running wild and everyone distrusted Slytherin House, students asked a teacher about what happened. And that teacher, a ghost who for all we know could have been there when it actually happened, gave an honest answer.

"Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed that magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. He disliked taking students of Muggle parentage, believing them to be untrustworthy."

Look at the language. Look at it, and understand that Salazar didn't see Muggle-borns as inferior, as worse. He saw them as untrustworthy.

Why, you ask? Well Professor Binns answers that as well!

"[The founders] built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age when magic was feared by common people, and witches and wizard suffered much persecution."

Salazar didn't like Muggles because they were hunting his family, his people, and persecuting them with horrific violence. He didn't trust Muggle-borns because how could he know that they wouldn't betray the magical world and tell their families that the kid two villages over practices magic with him on Tuesdays?

And yes, witches and wizards had ways to make it look like they burned at the stake when they actually survived, such as the Flame-Freezing Charm. But young children, with little control over their magic? If they were caught or exposed, well, it probably wouldn't end well for them.

Plus, wizardkind is outnumbered by Muggles, by a huge amount. If a village of Muggles who hated and feared magic discovered that a family of wizards and witches was among them, the parents would be burdened with trying to flee from a few hundred people while protecting their kids (who can't control their magic).

Salazar Slytherin didn't like Muggles or Muggle-borns. He hated them and feared them, not because they were inferior, but because they were dangerous. And while murdering children with a giant snake is not a good way to solve this danger to his family, people, and culture, it HAS to be seen that his actions were born not from arrogance, but from fear.

And there were Slytherins who knew this, long before Muggles had become so othered from wizarding society that some families started to believe that Muggles were inferior to those with "pure blood." Like Merlin, Prince of Enchanters, arguably the greatest wizard of all time, who founded the Order of Merlin to protect and aid Muggles, whose name has become synonymous with Muggle rights activisim. Merlin, a Slytherin.

If Salazar Slytherin was alive in the 20th century, he would laugh at the idea that Muggles were inferior. He would be the first to point out that Lily Evans and Hermione Granger, the brightest witches of their age, were Muggle-born. He would scorn the idea that pure-bloods were better, saying if that's true, why is Draco Malfoy, a pure-blood, second to a Muggle-born?

Salazar had questionable morals, to be sure (anyone who doesn't think so can re-read the Chamber of Secrets, where he hid a giant snake in a school full of children to murder the ones he deemed dangerous). But he never, never once thought that Muggles were inferior to wizards.

The Black cousins ( a.k.a Sirius and Bellatrix) and Voldemort's bi awakening absolutely are not related. 💅

Voldemort’s sexual awakening happened in his fifth year, when Walburga Black pressed her wand against his jugular and hissed his pretty little Prefect mouth ought to stay perfectly shut about their smoking in the bathroom, whilst Lucretia Black had his back against her chest and whispered threats about expulsion in his ear. Voldemort’s bi awakening blossomed a couple of years later, when Orion Black sensually helped him light a cigar by pressing the burning end of his own against Voldemort’s, whilst Alphard Black stole his glass of liquor from him with a wink and a handsome smile.

Then he meets Bellatrix — oddly similar to Walburga in looks, oddly similar to Lucretia in laughter — and she’s kneeling at his feet and giving him a front-row view down her décolleté, and he has the oddest need to have her try to best him in a duel. It’s absurd. Lord Voldemort simply does not get bested in duels, let alone by women with a great set of tits a husband.

And then he sees Sirius — oddly similar to Orion in looks, oddly similar to Alphard in attitude — on the other side of a battle, cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth as he curses Avery to grow mushrooms out of every orifice, and he has the oddest urge to ask this adversary for a light. It’s horrible. He doesn’t even smoke anymore, let alone with a man with the most unnervingly pretty eyes he’s ever seen a subscription to the Albus Dumbledore fanclub.

The Black cousins did not play part in Lord Voldemorts bisexual awakening. At least, not the Black cousins we know so well 👀

Hermione raised her eyes to him, capturing the light of the bulb into her irises and painting them caramel.

“How are you?”

Persphone Tim to Hades Ashes EXCEPT it's actually the start of the poly ship between Brian/Jonny/Tim bc Hades decides to host a grand ball for their 'wedding' or something and Jonny and Brian decide to come but they were not informed of who Persphone actually is so when Tim walks out with Ashes completely decked out in like a dramatic dress and pretty hair + makeup Brian and Jonny do the Granger Danger duet from Team Starkid's AVPM (Brian is Ron and Jonny is Draco, respectively. Also Ashes 100% knows they're down bad for Tim and finds it hilarious.)

Pansy vs Ginny

2ish years Post war

Ginny: selfish, narcissistic, jealous

Pansy: protective, unhinged, "you don't fuck with Pansy or the people she loves"

*Hermione and Pansy bond over the crazy shit they will do for loved ones. Setting teachers on fire, cursing boils on to a snitches face etc.

Harry & Ginny marry after war

Harry works DMLE. Stuck there, puts in too much time & exhausted when at home.

Ginny plays quidditch but it isn't enough. Isn't getting the attention she wants from Harry. Still feels young and like wasting time.

Ginny cheats on Harry with Blaise

Leaves Harry but doesn't divorce and continues said fling with Blaise.

Harry floos to Hermione's unknowing the Malfoy's are hosting Theo (BI and getting around!) and Pansy (single).

So it turns into drunk Harry sob story.

Pansy decides to take him under her wing.

Full hurt/comfort over time.

Harry and Ginny are separated for a year.

No 'I love you' said between Harry and Pansy but SHE 100% has caught feelings and thought they were reciprocated

(Pansy still sees Blaise as a dear friend if not brother. Idk how she feels or handles Blaise being the homewrecker of sorts.... But Blaise ends up catching feelings for Ginny)

Ginny catches wind that Harry is moving on and decides to get him back.

Blaise doesn't open up easily but Ginny wormed her way into his heart then broke it.

Pansy is livid about that.

Harry takes Ginny back because he still *thinks* he loves her and they are still legally married.

Pansy is destroyed by that.

HOWEVER after a tiny bit of angsty time Harry planned to end it and be with Pansy!! But she acts too quickly... And it changes everything.

Pansy makes a fake alibi with Hermione but doesn't tell her what she is planning.

Mione knows how Pansy feels about Harry and agrees. (She knows what the fuck she's about son)

Harry is working late and Pansy still has access through his home floo. She finds Ginny alone in the house and gets her talking, finding out how truly awful Ginny is on the inside.

Pansy with minimal effort sends out curses and disapperates the 2 of them to her family's dungeons.

Harry was late at the Ministry talking to Draco about his change of heart with Ginny and wanting to end it to be with Pansy.

Draco tells Mione when he gets home and she puts together what the alibi Convo was about and is like OH FUCK we have to tell Pansy ASAP

The Malfoy's are panicking like, the FUCK do we do?! Let whatever happen or stop her? To patronus or not to patronus

Ginny regains consciousness to find herself magically and physically restrained to a stainless steel table.

Pansy starts monologuing about Harry, Blaise and the hurt Ginny caused them, plus what she is going to do whilst Ginny is under her control.

Hermione decides to send a patronus message to Pansy hoping it will get to her before it's too late.

A wispy glowing otter comes swimming into the Parkinson's Dungeon. Pansy's head snaps up when she hears Hermione's voice proclaiming Harry's love for her and to not do anything rash. Smiling, she wipes a tear from her cheek and feels the slick of blood against her skin. As Hermione's voice fades away so does the patronus, leaving Pansy alone with the carnage that was Ginny Weasley-Potter.

After a couple days Harry reports Ginny missing.

How Love Feels Like

"How would you explain how love feels like, Potter?" It was quite a shocking thing for Malfoy to ask him. What's more surprising is that he isn't alone when the question was asked. There were a lot of students around, though only a few took note that he was conversing (or was forced into a conversation) with a group of Slytherins, or rather, with Malfoy and with his friends beside him.

"Um... Can you repeat that for me...?" He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"How would you explain how love feels like. Honestly Potter, I know you're blind, but I didn't know that you're deaf as well." He tried stopping himself from huffing and retorting back to Malfoy as usual. The war is over, he is trying to push for house unity and for Slytherin house to lose (or lessen) the bad reputation that they have.

Cursing Malfoy even if its just a tickling charm wouldn't help with that so... He needs to fight the instinct of retorting with anything just like he did before.

"Welllll... For me, love feels like..." He paused for a bit, thinking of the best way to describe how it feels like. To start off, there are different types of love; what love would he describe of?

He could describe what he felt when Sirius and Remus were alive, how they cared for him and made him feel whole even if it's just a short amount of time. He could also describe Mr. and Mrs. Weasley's, how he felt cared for and safe under their own version of love. Or, he could even describe Hermoine's, who he felt a sisterly sort of bond that is most certainly love.

He was taking his time thinking of his answer when a flash of red entered his sight. Ah, oh he knows what love he is going to describe.

"Well? We haven't got all day-"

"For me, love feels like warmth. It feels like the warmth that makes you feel comfortable in the middle of the winter and makes you fall asleep comfortably. It feels like the sun that wakes you up at the start of the day as it hits your window and your face. It feels like," a fond smile slowly formed on his face as he remembers the past years and how this particular person used his all to fight back and protect him, "the fire that looks like would burn you, but rather it gives you a sense of safety to close your eyes. It will not burn you, but it will burn those that tries to hurt you."

Around this time, they accumulated quite a number of audience. People who was just leaving their classes and is going to the Great Hall when they saw Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy talking.

"My, my, what a description, Potter." The one that said that was Pansy Parkinson though unlike most of their interactions, this time, she is smiling genuinely. Beside her, Astoria Greengrass nodded in agreement.

"You are hopelessly in love Potter. I hope you know that." He could feel himself blushing. Though he HAVE felt that warmth for quite a long time now, it is different when it was established to be love. He is in love, romantically speaking.

And Ronald Weasley is in love with him as well.

"And I hope that Weasley is giving justice to how you describe the love that you felt from him. Alright, I think we approve." Murmurs started from the audience around them. He felt his jaw drop at what Malfoy said. They... approve?

"What? I'm sorry, you approve?" Malfoy just shrugged. It was Parkinson who gave him an answer in the form of letters. She walked towards him, giving him pieces of papers.

"These are... letters between Professor Snape and your mother, Lily Evans. Professor Snape asked your mother how love feels like. Your mother answered, and in the end wrote out that the love she is describing is one that she felt from your father, James Potter. We saw this single correspondence separated from others and it has a written note behind the last letter." He quickly took the very last letter and turned it around.

"Ask her child...? Are you saying that Professor Snape noted that he would also ask my mother's child this, too?" The group of Slytherins nodded. He could feel himself tearing up, as he started reading the letters. This must have been before the war fully started. He imagined that Professor Snape asked for forgiveness, and his mother wanted to give him a chance.

His mother's handwriting is beautiful.

"Thank you... Thank you so much." He said, wiping the tears that started falling from his eyes. Gosh, look at him tearing up in the middle of the hallway with an audience watching everything.

"Just know Potter, Slytherins are not ungrateful. We respect those that earned our respect. We protect those that we respect." Malfoy said.

It was at that moment that Ron decided to come. He has been in this part of the hallway, but he was occupied with reading something, notes probably since he decided to take things very seriously this year.

"Hey there, Harry. Whoa, why are you crying?! Are you alright? Did something happen? Did someone try to ask about the hocruxes again because I swear I will-" Ron was cut off from saying anything as Harry kissed him fully in the lips.

Applauds and cheers echoed in the hallway as they continued kissing. The Slytherins jeered at them, but he could hear Parkinson and Greengrass cheering for a bit, which is a win for him.

"Well, that does it. Everyone please move out and give them privacy. Out!" Giving the Slytherins a wave and a smile, they just nodded at him in acknowledgement before moving out of the way. He turned back towards Ron, who is is still a bit dazed from the kiss.

"Hey... You alright?"

"Never better... You know, I could live with this. I don't need to breath anyway." They both laughed and started slowly walking through the hallway, towards the Great Hall.

"Now, can you tell me what happened back there? I might have been a bit preoccupied with our potions essay to took notice that it was you." Ron asked, a worried look on his face. Harry could only sigh in contentment, carefully clutching the letters near his chest.

"I'll tell you later. Let's just say that I described you as my warmth and," he looked at the letters, "you have just been officially approved by the Slytherins."

"Wait, what? I need their approval...?"
