Been looking over an old Unreal site I used to frequent back in my college days and it got me to thinking about the poly counts of my models for Unlucky - mainly wanting to make sure the game engine can handle them, even being made in a toony style.
Specifically, I was reading an interview that explain that the character models for gears of War in Unreal Engine 3, used about 10,000 polygons. That seems like a lot! But for Unlucky we're using Unreal Engine 5, and I learned how to check, for example, the poly count of the hero character, and she currently has about 6,661 polygon faces and 13, 188 triangle polygons. So, hopefully that's within a decent threshold for the engine.
I don't care for how demanding Unreal Engine 5 seems to be (I have to run the editor in in potato mode on both my computers or else the frame-rate dies), but judging by this video of 1000 sleeping doggos in the engine I am at-least glad the engine itself seems able to handle waaaay more than anything I've thrown at it so far.

Ideas for future Resident Evil games:
1) “Resident Evil Zero” remake that’s a collaboration between Capcom and Hazelight Studios (A Way Out, It Takes Two). The remake is a co-op game that emphasizes Rebecca and Billy’s teamwork in order to survive.
2) “Resident Evil Outbreak” remake that’s a collaboration between Capcom and Supermassive Games (Until Dawn, The Quarry, The Dark Pictures Anthology). So it’s a choice-based game in which you’re trying to save the 8 main characters, or die trying.
3) “Resident Evil 9” in which Jill Valentine is the main lead. The story revolves around Jill investigating The Connections, a crime syndicate involved in black market bioweapons. Carlos Oliveira makes a return as well, this time as a security contractor who is brought along by Jill. The twist in the game is that the main villain, the one in charge of The Connections, is Ozwell E. Spencer, who has somehow been resurrected after being killed by Albert Wesker.
4) “Resident Evil: The Missing Files”. A third-person shooter spin-off that specifically focuses on characters who haven’t been seen in years. For example, the game could have 4 campaigns whose lead characters are Billy Coen, Carlos Oliveira, Sheva Alomar, and Jake Muller.
5) “Resident Evil: Gun Survivor” remake but instead of being a light-gun shooter, it’s done in first-person. So, same format as RE7 and RE:Village. Nolan North voices Ark Thompson.

Since just like with a certain voice actress on a 2000s Cartoon Network show, there's not a lot of information on in this case writer/director Shane Acker, the man behind the dark, twisted, action-horror post-apocalyptic animated film 9 from you guessed it 2009.
So here's all the trivia that I could find on the guy if anyone's interested in reading for yourself:
Tumblr media
• In an interview, Acker cut to the chase on why he hasn't directed a movie since aforementioned 2009 and here's what he said — "Have a lot of the movies I've been attached to as director fallen into development hell, yes. But the bigger reason is mainly personal, I've just been living my own life. I would absolutely love to direct another feature or anything really but at the same time, I'm enjoying what I already have in life. I'm kind of a schlub that way right down to the fact that I'd nowadays rather sit back on a nice Sunday, watch football and eat bacon and pepperoni pizza than deal with modern studio executives who probably get higher pay every time they yell and scream in your ear".
• He's already listed The Brothers Quay, Don Hertzfeldt, Jan Svankmajer and brothers Christoph Lauenstein as influences previously however recently he's named Terrence Malick, Edgar Wright, Gore Verbinski, Jordan Peele and Richard Kelly as some of his favorite filmmakers.
• Speaking of favorites, he's given some of his favorite movies — Donnie Darko, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Dredd, The Watcher In The Woods (1980) and The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian (surprisingly).... then he gave some his favorite TV shows — Tales From The Crypt, Bob's Burgers, Squid Game, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Sons Of Anarchy.
Tumblr media
• When asked what was it like working with Tim Burton since he was producer, Acker spoke high praise saying "I would work with him again if the time comes. Tim was a phenomenal producer who allowed for so much creative freedom while at the same time contributing his unique voice and view to the project".
• On the flip side, here's what he thought of the other producer Timur Bekmambetov — "He was very, very, very, very, VERY fucking russian as all hell. I'm surprised he was a Hollywood producer..... he was quite the interesting person".
• He does indeed have an idea for a new project that he not only wants to do but intends on having it be his second film as director, describing it as "The Incredibles crossed with Raiders Of The Lost Ark, it's an animated action-adventure with edge we haven't seen since honestly the early 2010s. I'm still deciding on whether it should be another PG-13 or an actual R".
Tumblr media
• On modern media, here's his blatant thoughts on it so tough shit to any dope who reads this and gets offended because of stupid reasons — "I think it's been awful. There's barely any genuine storytelling now and instead it's all politics. It's all about representation, obnoxious wokeness, pandering, subverting expectations and shoving as much modern bullshit themes into them than actually telling stories with characters who you care about".
• He's most certainly not a fan of a certain film called Star Wars: The Last Jedi — "I know this is saying quite a lot since I've only been able so far to direct one feature but honestly I wish Last Jedi was never made at this point. Not only is it a truly terrible movie but it's created so much hostility, so much shilling, so much toxicity that it becomes unbearable. If this is that film's legacy than it's a failure".
• There is however one positive about all of this and it's that the one movie that he's excited for and interested in — what is it....

Unexpected
Chapter 4
Genre: Drama, Romance
Summary: How the one week in separation will change their life?
This story wasn't suppose to be sweet and heartwarming from the first place...
Dear reader, are you ready for a new ark filled with sadness? But remember, after every rain the sun is shining. Will Kyungsoo find his sunshine in this storm?
Tumblr media
"Was I always this vulnerable?
Was you my only strength?
Sharing with you my desires,
Telling you about my misery,
Like you are the best medicine,
...
Does it have a side effect?
Or Did I overdose?
The season has changed...
Why I'm still here?"
Kyungsoo breathed heavily while leaning on a desk in his office room at home. All the books were scattered under the shelves. Ripped pages next to them. The abandoned guitar's unfortunate place under the wall on the right side of the room was telling stories about the hysteria from a not long time ago. There was this unbearable lament bouncing off the walls...
In silence...
Chapter under the cut❤️
It was a sunny morning, past 6 a.m. This airport was living its own life like it was Saturday afternoon in the city center. Many flights landed. The light brown color of the floor tiles reflected the sunlight, jumping inside the building by the glass walls from the exit side. Kyungsoo was sitting on one of the bench seats inside.
He wore a light brown jacket and black trousers. While holding a mobile phone in his hand he smiled gently. It was YiSeul messaging about having fun the next couple of days without her.
"It's a work trip, how can it be fun?" He thought, and the phone started ringing.
- Chanyeol-ah! - Kyungsoo answered while looking around.
- Kyungsoo-yah!- laughed while imitating his friend - I'll be there in a second, just going to the toilet and grabbing a coffee, you're ok? You can wait near the entrance, I'll find you -
- Ok, hurry up - said Kyungsoo, and hung up. He then grabbed a grey backpack, wore it on his arms, and bucked his waist-belt. After that grabbed a large, black suitcase on wheels and casually proceeded to the exit.
Outside were small (compared to inside) crowds of arrived travelers. This was a street where many cars were parked to collect those travelers, and opposite the exit, a little further down, was a small park with trees and benches. He looked up in the sky. Even the noise around couldn't disturb his peaceful mind. "..ah...it's only one week...I hope she won't be bored alone....". These thoughts were swirling around his head, how great is to have her by his side...
Suddenly, he jumped to the side, barely staying on his feet, and raised his head to see who just pushed him so hard.... realizing he unconsciously caught this person, so she didn't fall on the ground...
It was a young woman. He thought: "Maybe 25, maybe 28, it's difficult to predict as girls these days are using many amazing cosmetics and ..."
She jumped back from his hands, waking him up from his internal analysis. Panicked, brushed her long dark brown hair with her fingers, shouted "Apologies!", grabbed her large, black suitcase, and ran away leaving him speechless. It was a long few seconds when he was watching her disappear.
- Kyungsoo! - Chanyeol jumped on him, scaring him slightly, so he swung clenched fist at his friend's stomach, but just touched to scare Chanyeol back in revenge.
- You done? - asked
- Yeah, let's go. Your coffee - Chanyeol handed the warm drink to KyungSoo and they headed to the nearest taxi.
The hotel where KyungSoo and Chanyeol were staying was in a classic 1970s style. Although the windows were modern, and looked a little bit out of context, in general, the view was pleasant, and looking at the interest in this place, none of the guests probably minded the mix of styles.
They checked-in in reception and hurried to their booked rooms to change clothes and prepare for a meeting.
Kyungsoo entered his room which was studio apartment size. From the small anteroom, he could enter all the rest of rooms which was: the toilet on the left, the kitchen opposite, and the bedroom on the right. Funny how the bedroom was connected to the kitchen from the inside. "This could have been just one room, what is the point in those walls separating the anteroom?" He smirked, after creating a reconstruction plan in his head. His mind is always absorbed by analyzing new experiences and places like it would change anything. But he can't fight with this part of his personality.
He went to the bedroom first and placed his backpack on the small brown bedside cabinet under the white wall. All the walls were white, and the carpet covered the floor on every inch, excluding the toilet where the white tiles were placed.
Then he put his suitcase on the bed and opened it to take some stuff important for the meeting...
"What is that...?" He stiffened and all the waters in his body started to boil from shock, out of fright, or all kinds of panic emotions you can feel at this kind of moment. His mind went blank. He tried to remember what happened before he arrived at the hotel..." That girl..." he whispered with a pale face. Hopefully, his laptop was in the backpack together with all the documents. He tried to calm down, took a deep breath a few times, sat on the bed and after long seconds of consideration he created a plan for a meeting. That was the most important now.
Then he looked into her suitcase and found a name tag, similar to the one that parents are sewing or just hang on their kid's clothes or bags when they go to primary school.
The message on the tag was as follows:
If found alone
Call Rose
01937xxxx
He was gazing at this tag for a long time in silence. It wasn't certain to him if his messed up state of mind was caused by this situation in general, the fact she swapped the suitcases by mistake or...that she was keeping this tag in her suitcase because it's probably the last thing that adult would think of before going on a trip alone...
He called the number.
The signal was on but no answer. Then tried again, 4 times to be precise.
After looking at the time on the phone, he hurried up and started preparing for a meeting.
The meeting place was a boardroom in one of the JJ ENTERTAINMENTS buildings. This spacious room had only the most important furniture which was a long, polished wood table and 11 stylish spinning chairs for all board members. The walls were in magnolia color, the floor was covered by navy, fluffy carpet. Doors were at the top of the left side, and the wall on the right was made from stone mosaic wall tiles in a light gray color, with the exception in the center where there was a place for a 90" size TV. Also, at the bottom of the wall, under the TV was a small chiller for drinks, filled with only water and a few cans of Coca-Cola, probably ordered by the members beforehand.
It was 9 a.m. when 11 attendees started gardening, including Manager Kim. Each one of them was in an expensive suit, mostly grey and black. Besides men, 5 women came, also in suits of the same colors. Then Kyungsoo was wearing the same clothes as before, which were a light brown jacket, and Chayeol in a retro-styled hooded jacket. They both sat just at the beginning of the table under the TV.
The man in his probably 60s sat just at the end of the table and patiently waited till everyone was settled down. He was the CEO of JJ Entertainment.
At some point, he said:
- Good morning, I hope everyone had a comfortable journey. We are here today to discuss the anniversary concert next 3 or 4 weeks. The date still hasn't been settled up, but we will get there eventually....- and waited for any reaction from other members. His facial expression reminded the one of the governor in prison. He smiled like an angel, but his gaze was a thread. He didn't have to say a word, his stare was creating a law that everyone had to obey without discussion.
- Let's begin, shall we? - and the angelic smile just appeared, bringing insecurity even to prepared for these meeting members....except two friends at the end. Kyungsoo was typing lyrics on his mobile and sending them to his email address while Chanyeol was absorbed by staring at the least favorite board members and laughing quietly at their frightened behavior.
The meeting was going smoothly. Each one of the employers was sharing their theories or presentations. Kim was sitting quietly until his time came.
- Woo Shik, what have you prepared for Creams? - the silence appeared in the room. Woo Shik was a young man, age max 30. Black curly hair cut short in the back, but fluffy bangs were almost covering his eyes. Long face, small eyes, and slightly damaged lips from biting.
-...um...- he started, but had difficulties to construct the sentences - they will be performing 5 songs...so I was thinking, we can choose the most popular 5 ...- he paused for a moment to look at their reactions, which were none so he continued- and...um...we can make the "candy" appearance, fans loves it....- he paused again. This time it looks like he ran out of ideas, so the pause was like a begging for someone else to speak up. Kim slowly looked at Kyungsoo who was still working on his phone hidden under the table.
- Doh, anything you wish to add? - ...silence. Kyungsoo raised his head and needed a few seconds to understand the situation. Then he leaned on his chair comfortably and said:
- I would use 4 of the most popular songs, 2 from the debut and two from the second album. Then I would give them 5 minutes to interact with the audience announce a new single, and sing the highlight from it. It would build excitement amongst fans. Also...- he looked at Woo Shik - I don't think the "CANDY" theme is the best. First of all, they are not newbies anymore, and together with the last scandals about them dating seems not in place. I would choose FAITH as the 4th song to emphasize that they are no longer children. That would help to make the audience understand that they are also human beings and will calm down the media a little... - he finished.
The silence in the room was shouting about admiration. Then suddenly, the silent applause could be heard. That was the CEO who was entertained with KyungSoo's speech.
- Manager Kim, what's your decision? - Kim needed a long second to answer:
- I'll go with KyungSoo's idea...- it seems his plan to embarrass Kyungsoo has failed. Was it this plan? Or maybe there was a different reason?
The meeting was carried out as planned till the end, and no one realized that KyungSoo's presentation was mostly created on a mobile phone while going by taxi and during the meeting itself.
Later in another room, there was a presentation again, this time led by one person for the audience consisting of employees. Large area, fully in white colors, hundreds of chairs, and a scene with a mini cinema screen behind. The presentation was about the stadium where the concert will take place and all the important details in this matter.
Kyungsoo was sitting with Chanyeol somewhere in the middle of the right side of the audience.
- How's our naughty YiSeul? - Chanyeol joked after looking at Kyungsoo scrolling the phone.
- Alright, I think. Stop talking like she's your girlfriend too -
- I always wanted to ask you this, because sometimes when speaking, she has this weird accent, where is she from? -
....
KyungSoo's eyes widened in a second.
Time has stopped, why is his mind blank suddenly? Where is she from? He was replaying all his memories in his head like an opened family photobook, like an archive in the basement or the attic. He was in every corner of his memory...where is she from?
- Oi! - Chanyeol woke him up from his trance - Don't tell me you don't know! - covered his laughing face to not make any loud sound - KyungSoo-yah, that's not good? Ask her, and let me know ok? -
Kyungsoo was barely hearing his friend as his mind just created another investigation in his head. What does he know about her past? They meet one year ago, he was always telling stories from his life, he complained to her about his dilemmas, she was supportive...was she? She was always there, right? But was he supportive? Has she ever told him about her difficulties?
This year passed so fast that he wasn't paying attention to many significant points. What does he know about her?
After another important presentation, the working day was finally over.
Kyungsoo came back to his room, looked at the phone, and threw it on the bed, then went to take a shower.
*buzz buzz*
The phone was ringing.
When he came back from the shower, while drying his hair with a towel, he grabbed the phone and stiffened.... 4 missed calls and one text message. He rushed to open it:
- Do you have my suitcase?! -
He breathed a sigh of relief and started typing:
- Yes, can we meet tomorrow morning? I need the equipment from inside ASAP -
Two seconds passed:
- OK then, tomorrow at 6 am at the airport, same place as today. See you! -
He opened his round eyes widely but smirked with satisfaction that everything was sorted. Now, only time for a dream after this long day.
YiSeul hasn't texted him, she's probably busy. "Good night" he typed with a heart emoticon at the end.
Good night, KyungSoo-yah...
The next day, same time as yesterday, Kyungsoo arrived at the airport. He was waiting at the entrance for women who swapped their identical suitcases. He still couldn't believe this story, but he accepted that, and told himself that many unexpected stories can happen, like his and YiSeul's example. He waited. "I think I came too early," he thought, but after looking at the phone, it was exactly 6 a.m., as agreed. He wore the same jacket, so she would recognize him. All of a sudden, he felt shivers, sometimes you feel this when someone is watching you, so he raised his head to look for the source of this unpleasant feeling.
Just opposite him was standing a short girl, with dark brown long hair lying on her arms. Her pale skin color and dark, upturned eyes together had something unique, fascinating, Kyungsoo couldn't explain it in words. Maybe it's that red lipstick? She was wearing a blue sweater and a long, white dress, almost hiding her feet.
Slowly, she came nearer to him while not losing an eye contact.
- Is that you? Do you have my suitcase? -
KyungSoo's chest flattened as the uncertainty was forcing him to be prepared for any defense if it wasn't her, if he just had long eye contact with a random person who would approach him without any reason. He smirked and said:
- I have no idea how we swapped our suitcases, but hopefully, you had this name tag. Are you always keeping it inside?- he couldn't wait to ask that question which had intrigued him since yesterday. She then grabbed her suitcase and left his next to him. Then she smiled gently, raised her head, and explained:
- I get what you mean, that's unbelievable, right? I can't believe it myself, but what happened is I was late for my meeting, hopefully, I had all the documents on my phone so just printed them off on site. I was running and looking at my phone, so it's my bad, apologies for running into you - the way she spoke made Kyungsoo surprised as she answered all his questions in one go, and for some reason, he was not even bothered anymore. What happened, happened. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal from now on.
- What's your name? - she was looking at her phone while asking. Kyungsoo, amazed by this question said:
- Doh Kyungsoo, but why are you asking? -
- No reason, I'm Rose. Nice to meet you. Apologies, but I need to check in, my flight is soon - then she moved to the entrance, raised her hand, and waved - See you, maybe someday! -
- Remove! my num..m..ber...- The last word he whispered slowly as she was gone already.
For some reason, this situation was fascinating for him and he smiled while turning around and headed to the first taxi.
He spoke with YiSeul later. She was in the hospital with her mom. Her health was not getting any better, and that made Kyungsoo upset but he needed to focus because today he had another busy day...and all week was the same. He was waking up and going to the JJ ENMT building, planning, writing, arranging, listening, recording, and planning again. He spoke with YiSeul every evening, In the daytime she was absorbed by work and her mom's condition.
He then arrived in Yeonhui.
"Finally at home," he thought. It was evening, so the skies were covered in dark ink, and because of a rainy time, the clouds were covering all the stars.
His fence and grass were in the same condition as he left. "She took care of this place". Then he opened the door, not even thinking about taking off his shoes, he just wanted to see her first.
She was in the kitchen wearing an apron, a little dirty after cooking but that didn't matter. Nothing matters, as far as she's here. Her hair was tied in a top knot. The only makeup on her face was probably mascara. She lifted her soiled in sweet cake icing finger and licked it while raising her eyes to look at him.
- Hey! - he ran to her and hugged her like he just found his long-lost treasure.
- How's the flight? - she asked while hugging him back and patting his arm.
- Easy, it's a short flight so I didn't even realize when we landed. How are things? All ok? How's mom? Sorry, that is the most important, is she feeling better?
YiSeul looked into his eyes, it seemed she was constructing the best sentence to describe the situation.
- She's back at home, it seems she just overworked, and her back is not standing this kind of pressure anymore -
Kyungsoo was speechless for a second.
- So it's not life-threatening? -
- No, she fell down the stairs while doing housework. It's OK now -
He asked himself, what was the reason for him to create the life-threatening sickness, was it something she said? Or he just added this part by himself, which is hard to accept, but now he can't remember what exactly she said about her mother's condition. Mom - hospital - bad well-being - this generated a story in his mind? Sounds like an absurd. Maybe he is just too sensitive, maybe he was asking for a situation where he can support YiSeul, the same as she was supporting him up until now? If that's the case, that is very selfish of him.But he still couldn't accept this possibily....
- I'm happy everything is fine now, was worried about your mom -
YiSeul smiled slightly, took his hand, and led him to the set table, filled with tasty dishes and a big cake in turquoise color.
- Wait! - he gave an order and ran straight to the shelf just above the sink, grabbed a red wine, and came back to the table with two wine glasses.
- Addition to the delicious food you have prepared - he hasn't tried it yet, obviously, but he missed her, and whatever she prepared he will appreciate. Then he gave her a kiss...going deeper as his deep feeling of longing. She put her hand on his back for a second, then suddenly she cut this precious moment with words: " Let's eat first, shall we? - smiled and sat down.
"What's that? " he thought while standing still and watching her. "What is this feeling?"
Why does her lips seems so unfamiliar today?

So someone posted something about Disney and having their worst slate of movies in years in their 100th anniversary year, and I got to thinking about why the movies weren’t well received. And this got me thinking about attitudes toward so-called-wokeness and the value of storytelling in general.
And look, I’m not here to make a value judgement about Disney as a company. Love them or hate them, it’s all the same to me.
But I didn’t think their movies this year were all that bad. And some of them didn’t get enough credit. (I *liked* the new Indiana Jones movie, damnit) But my argument here isn’t about just Disney, because this applies equally to a lot of big studios at the moment. And that is that the studios right now…don’t get it.
Look, I love storytelling. I am a goddamned writer, for gods sakes, and I love a juicy tale with shades of dark and light, and all those wonderful nuanced characters.
(And this isn’t going to be a rant about “wokeness’…I hate that term, because it has become a catch-all vilification of so many good things about representation, and cultural understanding, and to reduce it to a slang word that is barely sensical in the first place is a crime worthy of a special place in Dante’s circles…ahem, I’m getting off the topic)
My point is…people don’t want that. And they don’t need that right now. The studios are not tapping into the zeitgeist of the era.
Most folks, when they go to the movies, they want a clear division of who’s good and who’s bad. Who’s wearing the shiny sheriff’s badge, and who’s tying the poor wider to the railroad track to steal her land. People’s lives are complicated enough, with lots of confusion and ambiguity. They want to go somewhere and watch something where the rules are clear, and the stakes are laid out, and in the end, the good guys win. They want someone to root for.
And Hollywood, and prestige TV is very much hung up on the morally ambiguous hero, and the morally ambiguous villain. And I’m not saying those are bad. Frankly, I loved the second Black Panther movie for precisely that reason. What I’m saying is…it’s over done. When even kids movies these days are presenting ambiguity in the story…we’ve gone too far.
People go to the movies to escape reality. They want things to be good-evil in the movies, because they’re not in real life. Their lives are already 75 millions shades of grey. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to go stand up and cheer for Captain American punching Hitler in the face? (And would it kill somone to use a lighter color pallette in film? I swear we're going to need flashlights to see the screen if movies get any 'darker and grittier')
And maybe because we’ve spent so long looking at ‘bothsideism’ (well, the heroes aren’t really heroic, and the villains have a point…) that we’ve lost are ability to identify *real bad guys* in *real life*. I don’t think there was anyone in 80s who would have questioned that Nazis were bad guys, while Indy was busy melting their faces off with the Ark of the Covenant. They were cardboard villains, meant to be defeated by the hero. But I feel like today, we’ve lost that…we give villains sympathetic backstories, and we say ‘oh they had real reasons’….and then people look at people in real life and say ‘oh, they had reasons’ and we try and negotiate with them, instead of treating them as the cartoon villains they actually are. We’ve done such a good job trying to teach people empathy and tolerance, we’ve gone too far. There are some ideas, some people, who are just…evil. And sure, they have motives: power, money…but their methods are and always have been evil. And we need to recognize that. And maybe, if we saw more that on film and on our TV screen…we’d be willing to call it out in real life.

David Brings Up the Ark (2 Samuel 6; 1 Chronicles 13)
The continuance of Ish-Bosheth’s reign was brief. It had no moral strength from the beginning, and was kept in existence only by the ambition of Abner. The story of the short years is one of battles, quarrels and assassinations. At length Ish-Bosheth was murdered, and then the tribes over which he had reigned came to David and desired him to be their king. So the kingdom was again consolidated. David had reigned over Judah only seven and a half years; now he became king of all Israel. Jerusalem then was made David’s capital. Until now this stronghold had remained in the hands of the Jebusites, although it had been attacked and partly captured before. At length David gained full possession of the noted citadel and made his home in it.
David prospered greatly. Hiram, King of Tyre, was friendly with him, and the two kings exchanged courtesies and favors. David won a great victory over the ancient enemies of his people, the Philistines. Thus he was established in his kingdom. His fame went out into all the lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
When David came to the throne, he found the religious life of the kingdom in a discouraging condition. For a long time the sacred ark, the symbol of the Divine Presence, had been lying in obscurity in a private house. Those were dark and calamitous days for the nation. Disaster followed disaster. The neglect of true religion always brings trouble. We may see it in a smaller way in a home where there was once a family altar but where the altar is broken down, where the family gathers no more to worship God, where the voice of prayer is no longer heard. The members of the household scatter away in the morning without kneeling to commit themselves to God’s keeping for the day, and in the evening they gather home to rest again, seeking not the Divine blessing for the night. There is many a home of which this is a picture. The world has come in and Christ has been driven out!
After David had become king of the whole nation and had fixed his capital in Jerusalem, he called the chief men of the tribes and went to bring up the ark. He had already done many things to elevate the character and the standing of the nation. He had built a capital city and a palace of cedar for himself, and had instituted many reforms. Prosperity was coming, and all was hopeful. But something was yet lacking. Something is always lacking when God is left out.
An artist had invited a few friends to his studio for the first look at a new painting. The picture was beautiful but all who saw it felt that something was lacking. There seemed to be a vagueness, an indefiniteness, a mistiness, something lacking. The artist himself saw the defect, and taking his brush, he put a touch of red upon the canvas. This changed everything.
So it is when God is left out of anything in life. With the largest prosperity and the best material comforts, there is still a lack. What is needed is a line of red in the picture, the bringing of Christ with His Cross into the life of the individual, of the home, of the church, of the nation. The best blessing anyone can give to a land or to a community, is to set up God’s altar in its midst. Nothing else that David wrought for Israel in those days did so much for his people as his re-establishing of God’s worship among them.
There is nothing else we can do for a place which is suffering from the waste and ruin of sin, which will mean so much for it as to set up there the worship of the true God. Here is a community sunk in degradation. The people are idle and thriftless, without lofty ideals, without interest in each other, steeped in sensuality. One way of trying to lift them up would be to build them better houses and to put into their lives the refinements of civilization. Something may thus be done for their improvement in temporal things. But the best way to help them, would be to bring the gospel of Christ into their midst, to start a Sunday-school, a preaching service, to send the Christian missionary into their homes.
The ark had been at Kiriath-jearim for a long time, ever since its return from the land of the Philistines. David desired now to establish true religion in his kingdom, and planned to bring the ark to his capital. He prepared for this event with great enthusiasm. All the chosen men of Israel were gathered together. He consulted with his leading men. “Let us send abroad everywhere unto our brethren,. .. and let us bring again the ark of our God to us for we sought not unto it in the days of Saul.”
The king had prepared for a very joyful time in bringing up the ark. He meant it to be a great occasion. He led the procession in person. Thirty thousand men of rank were present to take part in the ceremony. There were great choirs of singers, with musical instruments accompanying them. It was a grand day. It opened in splendor but it closed in sorrow and bitter disappointment. The reason was, that God can be honored only by obedience, and this was lacking in the moving of the ark. The Lord cared nothing for David’s brilliant pageant so long as the Divine commandments were not regarded.
The whole business that day seems to have been done in a negligent way. The law required that the ark should be carried by Levites but instead of this it was put upon a cart that was drawn by animals. The religious ceremonials prescribed had so fallen into disuse, that the Divine instructions seem to have been entirely overlooked. The carrying of the ark on a cart may have been regarded as a very small deviation from the prescribed way but it was a deviation, nevertheless, and in God’s sight marred all the great ceremony. We must worship and serve God only in the way He has marked out for us, otherwise our costliest services and our most imposing ceremonies will be only an idle show in His eyes. We may do our right things in such a wrong way as to mar all the beauty of our acts by not doing them as God commands us to do them.
Uzzah was probably a Levite, and ought to have known the instructions concerning the care of the sacred ark and the manner of carrying it. The Levites were to bear it on their shoulders but they might not come near it until it had been covered by the priests, nor touch it except with the staves provided for carrying it. The ark had been under Uzzah’s care perhaps he had come to treat it familiarly. “But when they arrived at the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah put out his hand to steady the Ark of God. Then the LORD’s anger blazed out against Uzzah for doing this, and God struck him dead beside the Ark of God!”
It was a natural thing for Uzzah to do. The road was rough, and it seemed as if the ark would fall off the cart. Uzzah instinctively and impulsively put out his hand to steady it. If the Levites had been carrying the ark the only proper way Uzzah could not have committed this sin. One irreverence prepares the way for another almost makes another necessary. The breaking of one commandment, leads to the breaking of others. The first sin is like the little leak in the dam, which grows until it becomes a flood. If we would be safe from the final ruin, we must guard, against the smallest beginning of evil .
David was greatly affected by the occurrence. At first he was angry because of the interruption of the ceremonies. The record says that “David was angry because the LORD’s anger had blazed out against Uzzah.” His second thought seems to have been one of awe and fear that if the ark was such a holy thing, it was too terrible to have it near him. He does not appear to have thought of the sin which had been committed. Instead of penitence and sorrow, he showed wounded pride. He abandoned at once the taking of the ark to Jerusalem. He left it where it was and hurried away home.
We never should blame God when we have been punished for our sins. We should not question His justice or love in any of His dealings with us. We should accept punishment at His hand with humility and contrition, seeking to learn wherein we have sinned that we may no more displease Him. Then, we need never be afraid of God’s holiness, nor reject any ordinance He has appointed, because of the evil it may bring upon us to use it irreverently. Sometimes good people stay away from the communion, dreading that it may bring condemnation and not blessing upon them. But no ordinance of God will ever bring hurt to those who receive it in humility and reverence. Instead of declining to take the Holy Supper lest we may not receive it worthily, we should come to it with penitence, repentance, faith and love for then we will find in it only blessing and joy.
“The Ark of the LORD remained there with the family of Obed-edom for three months, and the LORD blessed him and his entire household.” David would not take the ark to Jerusalem, as he had set out to do, and it was left in the house of Obed-edom. For the three months it remained there, special Divine favor came upon the man who sheltered it. It was the same ark which had wrought such disaster when irreverently touched that now brought blessing to a home in which it was received in meekness and love. Obed-edom was not afraid to have the ark taken inside his door, and the result was good and not evil upon his household.
This incident suggests to us, the blessings of true religion in a home. Some people think religion is a hindrance to happiness. It stops some pleasures. It drives out some amusements. It interferes with some ambitions. But those who open their doors to Christ, the rejected and despised One, will always be rewarded. True religion in a home, blesses it. It sweetens the home life, enriches the home affections, deepens the home joys, lightens and comforts the home sorrows. It brings true prosperity, for the blessing of the Lord makes rich. It brings protection, for the angel of the Lord encamps round about those who fear Him. It brings comfort when sorrow has entered the home.
Heathen religions have no hope, no solace, no consolation, in time of bereavement but Christianity lights the lamps of heaven in the gloom. When the home is broken up, true religion gives assurance of a meeting beyond the grave, and reunion where there will be no separation forever. We should have the ark of God in our homes, whatever else we may not have in them.
Word came to David in due time, that no calamity had come to the home in which the ark had been left but that, instead, the Divine favor had been visited upon it. The king was surprised to hear this. He probably expected to hear of trouble brought to the family, like that which had stricken down Uzzah on the way. But, on the other hand, it soon became evident that Obed-edom was being greatly blessed.
Then David began to see that the trouble that day had not been with the ark but with himself and the people. So his heart turned again to his former purpose. He would bring the ark to the capital. Then the procession which began one day and ended in calamity was finished another day, not many months later, in the midst of great rejoicing. So blessing came to the whole people as the ark of God was brought into the Holy City.

Some More Stuff from Unlucky!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Been busy making some more bits and bobs for Unlucky. We're experimenting with turning objects into enemies, so I went for a "Banjo Kazooie" style googly-eyed approach for the ladder enemy as a test. I also made a new stone texture which came out nicely and put it on my new boulder model. I also worked with what I learned while making my water material to make a lava one.

All 5 Indiana Jones Movies Ranked, Including ‘Dial of Destiny’! All Five of Harrison Ford's Indy Films Definitively Ranked From Worst to Best.
— James Hibberd | Sunday 02 July 2023 | The Hollywood Reporter
Tumblr media
Harrison Ford in 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' Lucas Film
With the release of Harrison Ford’s final Indiana Jones film, The Dial of Destiny, the saga is officially over. But before we put all five movies in a museum, let’s take a look back. Below, The Hollywood Reporter ranks Dr. Jones’ adventures from the worst to the best. It’s a franchise that helped define the summer blockbuster and represented some of the best work of creators George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Ford — who will probably be forever more closely identified with his intrepid archaeologist than any other character from his career.
But since we’re starting at the bottom, that can only mean that we must first discuss…

5. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
A hokey ramshackle mess. Everything about the fourth film feels weirdly distant and off somehow; slathered in a CG haze. Even the glossy cinematography by the usually stellar Janusz Kaminski manages to make scenes that were shot outdoors look like they’re inside a studio, while the less that’s said about Indy’s son Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) and his Tarzan swing the better (in fairness to LaBeouf, one suspects no actor could have made his character work as written). In other Indy movies, you try to pick out the best sequence; here, it’s a fight for the worst (most pick the infamous “nuke the fridge” scene; my choice is the cemetery brawl with the parkour warriors — because you didn’t even remember that one, did you?). An Indy film’s MacGuffin might not be the most important element, but it’s not unimportant either, and Dr. Jones’ quest for an alien artifact leads to a groaner of climactic sequence and some franchise-worst effects to top it all off. It’s the only film of the five that feels like a slog.

4. The Dial of Destiny (2023)
Not as bad as the Cannes buzz suggested, yet not nearly as good as fans had hoped, Dial of Destiny represents a clear step up from Crystal Skull while still ranking below the original trilogy. The de-aged Indy opening sequence is surprisingly decent and the film effectively shuffles along for most of its run, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge bringing some bright energy as Indy’s goddaughter Helena Shaw and Mads Mikkelsen ever-watchable as villain Jürgen Voller. Ford is compelling when he’s given something to do, though Indy sometimes feels like a frustratingly passive character. But after two hours of teasing the idea of Indiana Jones traveling back in time, the payoff is letdown. Instead of revisiting, for instance, a moment from Indy’s storied past — it’s so easy to imagine Voller wanting to use the Dial to get the Ark of the Covenant during Indy’s Raiders adventure, or the Holy Grail during Last Crusade, to accomplish his goal of helping the Nazis win World War II — we instead are transported to an ancient Roman battle the audience doesn’t care about. Even Voller’s plan of traveling to 1939 to kill Hitler was a more exciting idea, and for the big climax Voller and Indy are separated and left with nothing to do – except perish in plane crash and get punched out, respectively. (“Continental drift!” should be adopted as a term for whenever a movie or TV show takes an abrupt, disappointing turn). Ultimately, Indy is left in a fine place, yet one wishes the filmmakers could use a Dial of Destiny to go back and rework the film’s third act.

3. The Temple of Doom (1984)
Temple of Doom has been criticized (including by Lucas and Spielberg) as being overly dark (its release helped inspire the PG-13 rating), and there are indeed moments that feel like they cross the line for what these movies are supposed to be (like that whipping scene). It’s also been justifiably criticized as leaning heavily on offensive racial stereotypes as Indy stumbles onto a child-enslaving Thuggee cult in India. Many also find Kate Capshaw’s shrieking Willie Scott off-putting. It’s tough to transition from all these elements to an “and yet…” but…and yet…when the film works, it has some of the best sequences in the franchise: The nightclub opener, the raft escape from a crashing plane, the will-they-or-won’t-they seduction scene, the spike room, the climactic bridge showdown — all terrific, and Ke Huy Quan’s Short Round is occasionally winsome too. Many outlets are placing Dial of Destiny above Temple of Doom on their ranking, but there’s nothing in Dial more exciting than moments like “no one’s flying the plane!” or “prepare to meet Kali — in hell!” (Admittedly helping matters: Ford is peak Hot Indy in this one.)

2. The Last Crusade (1989)
The Last Crusade is many Indy fans favorite of the bunch, and it’s easy to see why. The film is a delight — the warmest and funniest in the franchise — with a deft and witty script by Jeffrey Boam. Sean Connery is spot-on as Indy’s father, Henry Jones, and their interplay is at turns playful and touching (after Henry uses his umbrella to compel birds to strike an attacking fighter plane, the expression on Indy’s face as he’s silently overwhelmed by unexpected love for his father gets me every time). The score is one of John Williams’ best. The Last Crusade also has the strongest ending in the franchise, with its three-challenge booby traps and a feeling of genuine urgency with Henry’s life on the line (even factoring in the ridiculousness of the Crusade Knight — the film is a bit too goofy at times). Henry finally calling his son “Indiana” and gently telling him to let the Holy Grail go is one of the saga’s loveliest beats, and their extended sunset ride over the closing credits is so idyllic and gorgeous that arguably nobody should have attempted to make another Indiana Jones film after this one.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
Raiders of the Lost Ark is the closest you can find to a perfect action film. After his WWII comedy 1941 bombed, Spielberg was out to re-prove himself to Hollywood and it shows: Every scene is impeccable, starting with the opening temple raid that became one of the most iconic (and parodied) sequences in movie history. Ford deftly balances gravity and humor, demonstrating at turns competence and fallibility, as Indy struggles — and fails, time and time again — yet stubbornly refuses to quit. There are so many moments one could single out, and even the quiet ones are great. The lecture hall scene is a master class in delivering a ton of exposition in a compelling way (credit to screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan). The map room scene keeps the audience enthralled by simply showing Ford spending four minutes figuring something out — nearly all the storytelling is done on his face. Karen Allen’s savvy and punchy Marion Ravenwood was ahead of her time as strong action co-lead. And the truck chase remains one of the best stunt sequences ever shot. What does it say about the evolution of Hollywood filmmaking that the Indy film made with practical effects — aside from some dated climactic animation — and for the least amount of money (just $20 million/$78 million with inflation) visually remains the saga’s strongest and most grounded-looking entry? Clearly, top men — and women — were working on this one.

The Dark Beginnings ~ Origins of the Ink Demon Chapter 0 Pt.10 ~
"Hidden Base - Angel Island"
[Strategy - Tomoya Ohtani]
Anubis : Facisnating. I didn't think that I would find another pyramid that is located on a floating island. This place was once inhabitated by ancient anthromorphic beings called ancient Echidnas of Egypt, but apparently, it's now nothing but a place full of machinery and in case...Nuts and bolts. I wonder what this "Mad Scientist" has been working on lately. This is a space transporter that was set to a destination to the ARK. Say, wasn't that the Space Colony that played a huge role in the incident two years ago? Hardly after a Black Hedgehog died in space or probably crashed landed into the planet, eventually, I realized that he was alive the entire time and nobody would believe that his soul was still intacted. But now, he left this place just to rot or nothing to decay, it is really a shame that this place is now abandoned after the incident, but the security is still active. I wonder what this new kind of tool that they call it technology?
*COMPUTER BEEPING*
Anubis : Hmm? What's this? Is this what they offer with all the information about the planet? Charm, I would be rather fascinating then being a technological genius. These are News from the media, NewsPaper, News Reporter, and news that are good and bad. Both of these claiming these incidents around the late 1990s, In 1998, a famous Gundam Wing pilot was shocked by lighting by the evil skull leader and was rescued by a some autistic girl who has gains information about the world and has the ability to control wires, in which will restore life by using Soul Data transfer into his robot for 5 years prior to the Perfect Chaos Attack and the Space Colony ARK incident. Sounds he saved her life and she saved his, a remarkable love story between a Mecha Pilot and a strange girl. But as their relationship was kept in a secret from the public, this lead him to a marriage proposal with a young girl.
Set : Still leaking into some information about people's problems, lord Anubis?
Anubis : !? S-Set! What are you doing here?! You have frightened me! Well, sure I found out that all this information I found from the Mad Scientist was no joke after the incident two years ago. At least, I kept everything in check.
Set : That's the reason that you would find something, hardly you doubt that Soul Eater's existence would be better wisely to be a world of deception. These beings what we call it "Evil" are creatures called Heartless, monsters that born from within the darkness and have the power and ability to disguise their selves as humans using shape shifting powers.
Anubis : Indeed. Guess the Humans and the witches we're wrong to each other, and they simply got their selves on the wrong foot. But to make sure that all of the Chaos coming from the Ohkuboverse, isn't appeared what it used to be, so the evil forces were a diversion to destroy the real world, I will report this to the Mobian Death God and get to the bottom of this!
*COMPUTER BEEPING*
Set : My Lord! Look!
Anubis : What's this?!
Set : What's up with this piece of junk!?
Anubis : It's not junk, it's happening right now! The computer tells us that a demon made of ink and with humanoid traits has escape from that old studio in a place called Brooklyn.
Set : But what chances does it have beginning the question of where would it might be?
"Meanwhile at San Francisco..."
San Francisco Police : Alright, men. Stay in your positions! Wait for the target's arrival.
[Event : Strain - Kenichi Tokoi]
[BOOM!]
San Francisco Officer : You are completely surrounded! Surrender yourself to the force!
[demon laughing]
*JUMP+BOOM!]
San Francisco Officer : Okay! Lock-On target, men! Ready, aim...FIRE!
[Gunfiring]
San Francisco Officer : Did we get it!?
Demon : (chuckles) *gunfiring*
San Francisco Officer : Oh no! This demon's body is indestructible! Our weapons is useless! Retreat! All personnel, fall back! *Gunfiring*
Demon : Now then. Is there anyone else that dare stand in my way?
Maka Albarn : You might wanna cut me slack. I got this one!
Soul Evans : Aw yeah this could be fun! Wait, I already used that line.
Maka Albarn : That's okay, it may be a fun challenge, but this is a fight worth fighting for!
Sonic : Leave it to me!
[Chaos 0 - Jun Senoue]
"INKY JR. : Prince of the Ink Demons"
(Battle Begins)
Sonic : So this must be the demon that everyone was talking about! But where did he come from anyway?
Maka Albarn : I believe he came from an old studio in Brooklyn, New York. It was closed down after a man was conducting some research on a project he was working on.
Sonic : A project, that's what this is going about. It's a demon made of ink that's really slimy wasn't it?
Maka Albarn : About that, I don't know if our weapons could work on him! But I think it's a sin that using the Mabuki was the only power system that has ever been a great idea!
Sonic : Homing attacks will do perfectly, But I can spindash if you know what I mean! (Spindashes to attack the demon) Ha! Not bad for a creature like that!
Soul Evans : There's no point of him that will make us eat dirt! I didn't know how a demon would able to get all that power! Those are some pretty strong build ups!
Sonic : Well, it's time for me to lower them down! (homing attacks the demon) That should wear him off!
Inky Jr. : (laughs evilly) *DBZ SFX : JUMP*
Sonic : Hey, what!? Where'd it go?
Maka Albarn : Up there!
Sonic : (looks up to the see the demon) : What's he doing up there!? How did he jump off and manage to do something like that!? He could get hurt! (dodges Slingshot attack) And what's he doing now!?
Soul Evans : He's got a slingshot! Where did he come up with that stuff!?
Maka Albarn : Not just your average cup of tea, using a slingshot would be useful for children to use it as the finest weapons that man has ever made. So it's also a weapon used for men as well! So it's good if we best dodge the attacks from the slingshot!
Sonic : No kidding! Guess it's just my lucky day!
Soul Evans : Wait for it until he jumps off and then finish him off!, quickly!
Sonic & Maka : Roger!
Maka Albarn : Alright, you Inky freak! Prepare to have a little taste of your own medicine. (Inky jumps off to the ground) NOW! (throws Sonic at Inky to knock him out)
Announcer : K.O!
*DBZ SFX : COLLAPSE*
Maka Albarn : Alright! We did it!
Soul Evans : Looks like he's out of the park.
[Act Clear (SA1 Ver.)] - Jun Senoue]
Sonic : Hey! I'll play with you some other time!
"MISSION CLEAR!"
"RANK : A"
Maka Albarn : Yeah! This is Perfect!

THE VEGGIE BOOK OF REVELATION – by David D. Fowler & Aeon 999 – revised July 9, 2023
VEGGIETALES was a brilliant vehicle for an upbeat child-friendly presentation of the world's most popular spiritual instruction manual. Its producers and staff also demonstrated a gift for cleverly lampooning pop culture. The embedded videos above are among their finest works.
MFF is proud to present recently unveiled images of their spectacular take on the ever-popular APOCALYPSE. This vegetarian edition of the Bible's intimidating conclusion must surely be one of the most important lost classics of film history – conveying both the abject terror and awe-inspiring hope embodied by the legendary REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST.
The original director’s cut of the film evidently included LARRY THE CUCUMBER singing one of his signature Silly Songs: a jaunty little ditty about the proper way to stir fry vegetables, featuring many of the Veggies perishing in Satan's wok. Because of this ill-advised detour into dark humor, the film was understandably not released by the studio – for fear of boycotts by the Religious Right, the Young Republicans, and the Vegan Mafia.
Fortunately for us, AI artist NAT SHARPE has unearthed the images displayed in our gallery. On his Twitter account, he writes: "What happened to VeggieTales? Their last movie was The Book Of Revelation. Test audiences were so traumatized [that] the studio canceled the project – and shut their doors. All that remains is a handful of leeked concept art."
Sharpe's tweet thread, displaying all 17 of these phenomenal images in their original sequence, has the blessing of VeggieTales' creator. You can find the display, along with some  entertaining responses, at this link: https://twitter.com/nat_sharpe_/status/1619847565855555586 – and for more of his artwork, go to this link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Hornheim
The playlists below showcase videos based on specific Bible stories; and fables inspired by biblical precepts. Bonus tracks include FRANK ZAPPA's touching tribute to the vegetable kingdom; a compilation of VeggieTales HALLOWEEN episodes; the best of the SILLY SONGS; and we end with a heartrending cautionary tale about the sad fate of way too many of our veggie friends, perpetrated by THE ARROGANT WORMS.
