A random ramble about Animal Crossing, data mining, JSON, and Project Special K.

So I have a program that takes the data from Animal Crossing New Horizons and turns it into JSON files that Project Special K might use.

I also have a separate file that can list extra stuff (like for example queer headcanons) and add that to the final JSON data. It also lists stuff like which game a given villager debuted in for namespacing purposes — right now, most villager IDs are like "ac:cat18", but for example Raymond is "acnh:cat23". Which makes me wonder if I should subdivide them further using those debut lists. That way, you could have "afe+:cat18" be Lolly but with a Natty Tee, while "acnh:cat18" is Lolly with a Snowy Sweater (gray), and they technically could co-exist. Though honestly because I'm not about to datamine the other games on top of this it'd just be another block of data that specifies the differences from the ACNH version.

This special file also lists how to map cows and bulls to the singular "bovine" species. Because that's a thing, too.

I could add a bunch of things here. Renaming certain villagers any which way, recreate villagers that haven't returned in ACNH from whole cloth without risk of losing the work when recreating the final JSON...

I might even go completely nuts and steal Switch Toolbox' ability to load game textures and export them to PNG so it can automatically include villager icons and textures, which are right now manually added. Heck, that "right now" only really applies to the icons — only Rosie, Kid Cat, Lolly, Chief, and Audie have their textures.

All that and I still don't have a single graphical screenshot of Project Special K to show. Too many mental issues to continue the OpenGL tutorial so all I do is expand this dumper and write small backend parts. Like something that takes all the separate item icon PNGs (separate because that lets you add/replace them easily with mods) and generates a big ol' sheet of them on load, because I figure having one big texture for them might be better than having about 620 smaller individual textures. Please, by all means correct me if I'm wrong.

BTVS ships episode count review

I was thinking about Buffy's 3 main ships (to me): Bangel v. Spuffy v. Fuffy. I was wondering how many episodes (BTVS or ATS) where each ship has scenes together. Then inspired by these two polls I decided to add in two other non-Buffy ships: Gethan and Spangel.

Kudos to the Fuffy and Gethan shippers, who are working with not a TON of episodes with scenes together. Especially Gethan shippers, who only have 4 canon episodes! To be fair, Spangel fans only had 13 until S5 of ATS.

Summary ship episode count: Spuffy (Spike x Buffy): 71 Bangel (Buffy x Angel): 49 Spangel (Spike x Angel): 35 Fuffy (Faith x Buffy): 21 Gethan (Giles x Ethan): 4

Any blatant negative ship comments, like calling a specific ship indecent will get you blocked. Ship and let ship. Other comments welcome.

How to start? I started with the pre-count. The pre-count is episodes where both characters in the ship appeared.

How to verify? I did not rewatch all the episodes! I rewatched a few, after checking transcripts, recaps, and ship gif pages.

What doesn't count? Someone talking about the other person, because I am not trying to include the various episodes where Faith is haunting the show. They must appear in a scene together for it to count. They must both be fully aware of each other. Shared dreams (like the Fuffy ones) do count, but regular dreams do not. Buffy Bot, Wishverse Buffy, and FirstEvil Buffy do not count. I treated Faith and Buffy as their "mental" selves during the two body swap episode scenes. Also I treated Angel the same as Angelus and soul-less Spike the same as soul-ed Spike.

As the Supreme Court is now hearing arguments on the TikTok ban, I feel like this is an excellent time to remind everyone that getting rid of TikTok is NOT a good thing

And the reason I bring it up specifically on here is bc I have seen far too many people claim that the ban is for the better, that they're so glad it's gone, that people spend way too much time on it (side note, that's social media in general, it's not just TikTok babes. You're spending 15 hours on Tumblr alone, I'll bet). Even if you don't use TikTok and you absolutely hate its guts, trust me when I say you'll want it to stay

Firstly, there's been very little evidence that TikTok's Chinese owner, Bytedance, has been data mining Americans on order of China. Majority of the evidence has not been released to the public and the stuff that has has been censored. Of course the risk that it could exists-- but you cannot simply assume it's doing this all the time, 24/7, when no current evidence has been presented

TikTok has been taking massive steps to insure that American data is protected, primarily with Project Texas. All American data is stored in the United States and controlled by Americans. Again, American data is with AMERICANS

It is also one of the very few apps that is not dominated by American companies. Does no one find it odd that the only foreign-owned application is being singled out, when companies like Meta and Google have arguably done worse damage? Is no one pointing that out?
