this week was finnick's turn, and he decided to take you to the district four's fair.

your stomach hurt from laughing so hard, trying every carnival game and failing miserably. while showing off his dart-throwing skills, his clumsy self ended up falling down and missing the shot. but one thing you should know about finnick is that he's determined, not letting anyone else play until he did good enough to get you a stuffed animal.

he held your hand on the rides when you felt dizzy or scared, gently squeezing your hand is his way of telling you everything will be fine. you were both glad the idea of eating before going to the rides never crossed your minds, noticing some unlucky people facing the consequences of their own actions.

after playing most of the games and trying several rides, you started to get hungry. your grumbling stomach got finnick's attention and he led you to the food stands, where you together ate your weight in foot-long hot dogs and corn, topping it off with mango ice cream even though you were already full, never denying a good sweet treat.

when he took you back home, he didn't leave without first peppering your face with kisses and ending with a soft, loving one on your lips, and naming your new octopus stuffed animal. a big lovesick grin on your face as you watched him walk back home

Sooooo…. I played ‘A date with death’ and let me tell you, Oh let me tell you! IT. IS. AMAZING!🤩 (I won’t say his real name) Grimmy is sooo babygirl-coded it’s insane! And I love the choice that the Mc has! Why? Well because it’s stuff that I would totally say! The mc is so me fr fr. You can also make your character how you want it to be! And the stuff you can do in the game is so cool. For people like me I REALLY recommend it. It’s also free on steam so yay! Creator and everyone that participated in making this game I am on my knees right now praising the shit out of you 🙌🙇‍♀️! Pros of dating Margaret in RF4 - she's very cute and sweet and all around lovely. She's also the only girl to get a skill exclusive to romancing her, and it is BUSTED. Her healing rainbow wave is the best support move in the game, IMO.

Cons of dating Margaret in RF4 - Unless you get obscenely lucky or choose to save scum a lot, you will NEVER be able to marry her.

BUSTAFELLOWS

Going into this game I didn’t really know much. The trailer video for it looked really awesome, but I didn’t know much about it other than the stuff in its eshop page. I ended up buying it because it had a major sale (I want to say like 50-60% off), so it felt like a waste not to get it especially since I’ve seen it mentioned a bunch in the otome community.

One thing that was a little rough for me is there isn’t really a prologue to really get to know each of the guys which made it hard for me to decide who to pick since the choices you make in common route determines who’ll you’ll get. I wish there was more time to get to know the guys before my choices mattered. So that’s definitely one complaint I had. But let’s talk about my thoughts on the routes!

Limbo

I chose Limbo first since he’s kind of the poster child and the little part you see before picking choices was mostly with him, so he seemed like a safe bet.

I think Limbo is very attractive from his character design standpoint, so that’s a plus. And his personality was pretty solid too. I have no real complaints about him and his route, but I also didn’t feel anything crazy about him either.

I think he’s a solid character with a fun route and is probably who most people would try and play first since the game really hooks you into him early.

But I don’t feel like I have too much to say about him. Although I do like him and his sister’s dynamic, and I think he is a very caring and sweet person so that’s really nice.

Helvetica

I decided to play Helvetica’s route second, because honestly I didn’t like him very much based on the common route and Limbo’s route, so I kind of just wanted to get him out of the way and done with.

I feel very conflicted after playing Helvetica’s route. On one hand I’m not a fan of the type of love interest he is (where the game shoves in your face how good looking he is, he’s overly confident/arrogant, and where he teases/bullies MC a lot), so it was a little hard for me to really be into him. But on the other hand I think his character and story was actually really good, and more compelling than Limbo’s route (even though I prefer Limbo’s personality).

Helvetica’s route was super interesting, and had a lot of good moments. Even though I don’t prefer his character archetype I still really empathized and cared about him as a character.

My biggest complaint is this game didn’t commit to its conflict. It really annoys me when these games put high stakes, drama, and interesting plot points only to basically negate everything so there’s no real consequences. I don’t usually like to include spoilers but I’m going to have to because I need to address this so if you don’t want spoilers for this route as well as some from two other games, feel free to skip to the next route’s review.

Basically in this route Helvetica gets seriously injured, that in real life would result in some serious scarring. I wish the game committed to their story and actually left him with some scarring, it doesn’t have to be as bad as possible, but something to show there are real consequences to his actions would have been nice. One of the things I really loved about Mystic Messenger and Empherial was both committed to their injury plots. When Yoosung’s eye gets damaged they committed and kept it damaged. When MC gets scarred in Ray’s route of Empherial they commit and keep her scar. I love that because it means there are actually stakes. I hate it when a game will do something crazy like in Helvetica’s route, but then don’t fully commit to leaving consequences and evidence for their choices. It’s a really big pet peeve for me. So that also made me pretty annoyed with his route. But overall I think his route was good.

Shu

I decided to play Shu next because I was kind of interested in him, but not as much as the last two. I wasn’t really sure how to feel about Shu before playing his route, I don’t like that he’s a smoker, but he didn’t annoy me or seem like a bad guy. So I felt kind of conflicted and wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy his route or not.

After playing I actually enjoyed his route more than I expected to. I think it was pretty engaging and fun to play. I like that you can encourage him to stop smoking, honestly wish that was an option in more games. I also really enjoyed the ending of his route, it was very sweet. Much like Limbo’s route I don’t have much else to add other than it’s good and I like him. If you like the “bad boy” or “family first” type guys you’ll probably like him.

Scarecrow

The two I was most excited to play was Scarecrow and Mozu, so I really struggled to pick who to play first. But I landed on Scarecrow on a whim. But he seems pretty cute and awkward, plus he’s a hacker so I’m pretty down to play his route.

As expected I really enjoyed Scarecrow’s route! He’s so cute and awkward and that’s one of my favorite type of characters to play in these games! He’s also the youngest of the group (I think?), and I like that since I’m not a generally a fan of age gaps.

I would say he’s a very wholesome and sweet guy, very gentlemanly. His route has Enomoto vibes from CxM, so if you liked that you’ll probably like this.

The plot was good and it had a great hook, definitely had me questioning how everything would turn out. But I think Scarecrow and MC have such a cute and wholesome relationship! Just everything about this route was straight up my alley. Very cute and fun to play!

Mozu

I decided to play Mozu last because once again I was most excited for him and Scarecrow, since they both seemed the most like my type. Mozu appeals to me for two reasons, one he’s the quiet and reserved type which I enjoy, and the other is I like his personality a lot. I love that he’s a coroner, and the stuff he says, especially since I used to want to go into a similar field. So overall, very excited to play his route

As expected I really loved Mozu’s route! I just really love Mozu and his route was so good. It was the only to make me cry as well. I felt so many different emotions while playing his route, it was so engaging and interesting. It made me kick my feet happy and also crying from a wide range of feelings. I’m definitely glad I played his route last as he’s probably my favorite of these five. I loved this route! My only complaint is we got the lest of his POV which makes me sad, I also think they have the least couple-y content as well which sucks. But even with that I love him, he’s my favorite, and I enjoyed his route.

Last Two Chapters

I’ll be frank, Full Circle kind of sucked and was lackluster but I didn’t hate it. Auld Lang Syne I actually hated and despised. I need to rant so if you don’t want spoilers go to my final thoughts or click off.

But oh my gosh I hated this so freaking much. Words are not enough. In the common route and all routes I really loved Adam and was holding out hope the secret route would be an Adam route somehow. But no instead we got Auld Lang Syne. Which to be fair you could keep part of it for an Adam route and I’d be happy. Like sure MC’s brother Zora can still be an evil r*pist who SA/r*pes Luka and threatens to do the same to MC, because it’s sick but like we know Zora was a bad guy. You can even keep Adam killing him. But make Adam a route! Don’t give the guy a tumor that makes him loose his grip on reality and destroy his life! Like why did the writers hate Adam?! He did not deserve to go through all the suffering he does. It’s so insanely stupid they refused to give him a route and instead force fed us this rushed garbage. I’m livid, justice for Adam!

Overall

There is a lot I want to say about this game but I don’t know if I’ll remember it all so here we go. One thing I feel kind of conflicted about it the common route feels so long compared to individual routes, which makes some of the romance in the game feel rushed. This paired with the fact you basically have no time to get to know the love interests before your choices matter was not something I’m a fan of. I found it to be pretty frustrating. The common route also sets up a lot of things that don’t have an impact on any route and rather a forced together last minute in the “true ending”. Overall the game was really bad at adding any foreshadowing and suspense, like the fact Shu is a hit man was shocking to MC but not the player. A lot of the game kind of feels like that.

I feel really conflicted about how I feel about this game. On one hand it’s absolutely stunning, has great and dynamic art and animation, great voice acting, and an intriguing premise that really hooks you into the story. But on the other hand the romances feel a tad rushed and don’t really connect or drop hits to the “true ending”. That combined with the fact the last two true ending chapters really sucked, really left a sour taste in my mouth. I think I’m disappointed because before I played the final chapters I think I would have strongly recommended the game. But honestly it’s kind of ruined for me and I don’t think I’ll play the sequel like I had originally thought. And from what I’ve seen online it seems many people don’t like the final chapters. It kind of makes me wish I could be like the MC and go back in time to prevent myself from playing those last two chapters, because then I would have had much more positive things to say.

I don’t think the game is bad, it’s objectively really good and high quality (art wise), I just don’t understand what the writers were hoping for with those last chapters of the game, which sucks because as the true ending that’s where the sequel picks up. So sadly, I don’t think I like this game as much as I originally did and that sucks. I’m kind of worried to post this because I don’t want to be negative, but also not every game will be everyone’s cup of tea, so feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt. But that’s all for this one! I’m planning on playing Café Enchant next so look forward to that!

SO they're technically backgroundish characters for a DnD world bc Teary is part of the Pantheon for the world but. it's not about them it's about my guys!!

so teary is the son of Light and Shadows. his full name is tearithus, because why the hell not he can have some drama as a treat, he starts as a funky little imp, a bard-esque guy, who's kind of the comedic relief? he's the least toxic-masculinity-ified man you've ever met, though, because. his mother refused. their story is in three arcs and between one and two he gets mass promoted from imp to archdevil bc. yknow. saving the world and all that jazz. anyway he gets some body issues deals with that for a While. he deals with them by creating a magic circle that creates a 'permanent' shape change on his body to send his actual form to the ethereal plane. (he does not deal with them for a While.) he's loud and dramatic until literally anyone in the party starts talking, and then. he just sits and listens.

and his bestie my bestie chara. it's not her actual name (that's barely shared bc. points. fae). her title is the lady of fire, keeper of memories and watcher of time, but she doesn't try to get into that much. she's just a sad gay phoenix woman who misses her wife. she is So Self-Sacrificing and for what? Self hatred?? anyway she lost her wife in the First War, got her wife's Orb, and realized that she's possibly never going to see her wife again because her soul is nowhere. she's a fae (bc phoenix) and so struggles a lot in transitions between realms, but the transition that hit her hardest was, naturally, faerie to material. her wife helped her then. a millenia later, teary shows up at her doorstep, bleeding out, and she helps him just how she was helped. she has innate magic (sorcerer!!) and absolutely loves fucking with her own appearance. her spellcasting focus is her wedding ring– when she realized teary set up the Circle to hide his appearance, she said she wouldn't tell if he hid her ring too– focuses are targeted, she points out, and she'll be damned if she ever loses that. she can die and 'be reborn', but it's based on deals: if she dies, she gets sent to Liminality, too far from where she knows safety, and a Demon or Angel pops up to offer her a deal. she haggles and returns to life with some benefit or disadvantage. towards the end of arc two, she gets hung, and returns in a blaze of fire with true sight, but her Actual Vision is taken– her eyes are pure flame.

if duos were made of my guys, chara and mini would get paired up a lot just because teary and august are Love Interests TM. this whole friend group are Friends With Each Other, and these two have that good good sapphic/aroace bonding. they're besties. they're competitors. they have completely different views on the gods. mini, if i had to sum them up in a 'describe your character like Shit challenge,' would be: an amnesiac ghost wakes up in the Liminality with a sword and decides to solve a mystery. mini is self named– short for minutia– and they're a paladin of the Innkeeper, one of the Pantheon (Time). Mini's title starts as 'The Sword of the Innkeeper' and they are a damn good paladin. they don't have control over too many things at the start– their main motivation is to know Who They Are– but, really, their main arc is finding themself in the world itself, figuring out that they are not defined by who they were in life. it helps that, being a ghost and a dead elf, they have almost complete resistance to magical effects on physical forms and non-magic weapons– they will refuse to die. they're not naïve, but they are optimistic, which pairs them and teary together against chara and august pretty often, who are a bit more pessimistic/pragmatic.

and! speaking of august! my darling augustine, High Angel of Mercy. she begins the story serving under Life, but ends up just serving the cause, the belief of Mercy. She, of all Immortals, is the one pushing closest to Godhood without being one. she doesn't want to be one. she died half a decade into the First War– she was followed home from a town square performance and shot twice– and she's been Working In This Vein of Bullshit for the longest. if i had to give her a dnd class it would be monk: she does the punches, not the magics, but thoroughly diverts the 'magics person is the leader, punchies are the henchman with no thoughts' idea by Being So On Top Of Her Shit. she's got portals set up to each Plane, commissions Sending Earrings/Rings for the group, does a lot of Heaven's paperwork, and is too much of a perfectionist to not Have Her Shit Together. she's not, exactly, go-with-the-flow as much as the rest of the group is, because she is Terrified Of Fucking Up, but she is ruthless and impulsive in battle once she knows the people she's fighting have Wronged in a way that cannot be reprieved. also, she likes to dance. wonder what that's about? couldn't be her Life.

teary and chara have known each other the longest: legends build, you see, and townsfolk are afraid, and so when Teary came to the Material he got shot. a couple times. and a kind soul in the woods told him of the Firebird in the Mountains, so you best believe he hightailed it up there. he found her, and she helped him, and they have tea every Tuesday, where they absolutely gossip and are happy to admit it.

teary and august met next: teary works in hell for a Long While– being an imp, not a god, where would he go?– and august is basically the Deal With Anything Anywhere department of heaven, so when some trappings of Uncanny Necromancy starts to pop up on the material– and they're summoning from both Heaven and Hell– august goes Give Me One'a You Guys and gets teary to help her out. they become friends and just. keep working together.

then there's something messing with faerie, their souls being trapped in heaven instead of melting into the Being Of The World, and teary goes 'gustie i know a guy' and drags in chara. chara and august are DELIGHTED with each other and bond over lightly ribbing teary and also pretty women and also the world is fucked up and we lost Too Much to War, didn't we? anyway they get that cleared up :)

mini comes along last– it's 6 years into the Second War when heaven and hell stop receiving souls and august realizes there's a backup at the Inn at The End of The World. the innkeeper goes Help Me Please the Inn Isn't Made To Hold This Many People and mini, being one of these souls and being nosy and also knowing 'hey i worshipped this one. that's my Diety Right There' goes how can i help? and! the party is complete!

i'll shut up now but there may be a post about the Pantheon if i'm ever prompted with anything because. these ones are my guys but the Pantheon lets me weave words yknow?

I downloaded the Ruri Tunes game and gave it q try! I recorded some gameplay for anyone who can't try it themselves but are curious what it's like! But I'll put it under the cut for anyone who isn't.

It's a little awkward at first, but kind if fun. Like they're trying to dupe twisted wonderland. It's a little weird trying to figure out what rhythm they want me to follow. I'm used to playing rhythm games by just listening, this I had to actually stay focused on the targets and it made it harder, but I'm sure it can be gotten used to.

Large spoilers for the original AI, the Annihilation Route in particular, and some... small(?) to medium spoilers for Nirvana Initiative, particularly for mentioning the context of Explosion End. Is... is any of the pretext for what happens to Date in NI really a spoiler, when it's one of the first lines the game feeds you as Mizook? Hm. Close-ups for the picture attached should be below the cut. 

I mentioned back in my art inspired by Lost Time Memory that I had made my own design for a post-Annihilation route Mizuki set during the time period of her half of Nirvana Initiative. This post is to elaborate on my thoughts for that, as well as how I would envision my own take on the design. 

Mizuki's hair is in her youthful ponytail and not her more... mature(?) twin braids because, honestly, I prefer the ponytail. Could also not be assed to draw them again, but that's less important. 

Then, there are her more unique clothing items. Fingerless gloves to emulate Ota, the loser she thought of as something like a big brother. A fanny pack she has around her waist, to carry on her youthful tradition of always being well-stocked, now including her pipe and Evolver (no, I don't know if that's a feasible way to holster a gun, shut up), and being covered in stickers. An A-Set sticker for Iris, a Captain America-looking ass sticker for Ota, and an Adorabbit sticker for herself, though you could probably stretch that it's also meant to represent Date too. The fanny pack itself is meant to look similar to her schoolbag from elementary, as well as Iris' own pack from OG. There is also the element I'm not super sure of, of Mizuki having the centrepiece of Hitomi's necklace in her pocket. On one hand, I'm not sure it'd survive Hitomi getting blown. On the other, if it did and I go with Date taking it and keeping it because he remembered enough to know he loved her, I'm not sure if he'd hand it to Ryuki along with Aiba to take care of or if Date'd keep Hitomi on him. 

And there is, of course, her pièce de résistance, Date's coat. The one she wears over her shoulders, to try and retain the memory of the warmth her father in all but blood had tried to grant her, if awkwardly. After dealing with the same stubbornness that haunted me figuring out how to make the jacket work in my personal Falco!Date design, I decided on her wearing it with one button but just over her shoulders, again to act like a hug but also so it doesn't restrict her movement, since it is... pretty huge on her, even grown up. The upside of that is that it obscures her movements if she ever needs to draw a weapon.
