but to answer your first question, i actually have done a previous hsr project....! it was fresh off the conclusion of penacony and i was in my aventurine phase so ended up making an animatic of him to the vocaloid song 'wozwald' that you can find here on youtube if it interests you 🫣 i never posted it here on tumblr bc it felt so out of left field for this tolkien-centric blog jcsjahaha but since ive finally brought it up, ill attach some screenshots that im still kinda proud of under the cut ^^

hi, im new here (not to dd just to the tumblr sphere— why does everyone seem to hate zdarsky/checchetto? i really enjoyed the first part of zdarkys run and i adore checchetto’s art + design, so idk what i missed that makes everyone who comicsposts dislike it so much??

hm. this isn't the easiest question to answer. there's a LOT of different reasons as to why people disliked that run.

tbh I'll admit the first 20 or so issues of v6 are kind of okay. not impossible to read. it goes downhill fast after that, tho. very very downhill.

here's this post by @/xycuro-illuminati that does a good job of explaining why so many people disliked the run. here's my post on the ableism in zdarsky's writing. trust me you aren't the first person who's asked this question before

i'll give you a more general answer of my own opinion, tho

zdarsky's writing misses what most consider to be crucial points of Matt and Elektra's characters. with this, he entirely obliterates their characterization and that really pissed a lot of comics fans off.

i would consider volume 6 to be the beginning of the MCU-ification of dd. it is clear that at that point, some higher-ups were pushing for daredevil comics to become more like the show. the show was a MASSIVE hit and they wanted to cash in on that. so, they had the writers start shifting the comics and the characterization around to fit the show better.

this is where the problem lies. it is insulting, honestly, to ignore the past 50 plus years of writing for matt's character to shift it into something that will be more palatable to live actions fans just so marvel can get a good payday.

the most glaringly noticeable part of this is - the catholicism. the live action show makes a big deal out of matt being catholic when this was never really the case in the comics. while matt being religious and catholic are present in matt's background in the comics, it's not even close to being a big part of the character.

one of the main things that makes matt so compelling as a character is his morality, his integrity. he upholds his moral code relentlessly because he believes it is the right thing to do. he believes everyone deserves a second chance no matter what. in zdarsky's run and in the show, matt's reason for upholding his moral code is tied to his religious beliefs.

here's a good post on the origins of catholicism being related to matt's character and how it differs from the show and why it is such an injustice to tie matt's morality to his religion.

it's really really hard to articulate every single thing that's wrong with zdarsky's run while also giving you a thorough explanation.

i could tell you about how zdarsky's original plot was focused around matt's guilt when he accidentally kills someone but... matt's killed people before. he killed someone in his very first issue. ever. he was chasing after the man who was responsible for his father's murder and scared him so badly the man had a heart attack and died.

all of zdarsky's plots and subplots are all things that have been done over and over, he just writes it worse.

i could tell you about how shitty checchetto's art is. he can't draw women. or fat people (foggy fans deserve reparations). toward the end of the run he gets ESPECIALLY sloppy. he whitewashed kirsten and sam.

i could tell you about how zdarsky wrecked elektra's character. he completely ignored her origins and the character development she's had over the course of decades of writing just to slap some random retconned backstory onto her.

theres so. many. things.

i got into the comics through the show. when I started reading the comics I honestly perceived comics matt and show matt as two entirely different characters because they just felt so incredibly separate from one another. it is not that there are zero similarities, but their reasons for WHY they are the way that they are diverge wildly from each other

i dont know how else to put it except to say this. when I read zdarsky's run, I do not feel like I'm reading about Matt Murdock. it doesn't feel like matt, it doesn't feel like daredevil. it feels like an entirely new character that I do not know.

to fully explain to you why i feel that way would take a damn book. i realize that my answer isn't at all comprehensive and some parts are probably confusing but it is impossible to pick a start and end point. that's just not matt. that's it.

Welcome to the fandom! I'm very curious to see what type of lu fan you are, as it's always great to see the diversity of people that enjoy any given thing.

I saw you're a fan of Wild, and you've read some fics and such, are there any that you'd recommend to someone that wants to get to know a bit more of his character? I'm biased to Legend, as he's easier for me to draw, but I've been wanting to dive deeper into the personalities of the others in the chain, particularly Wild, as he's set up for a lot of character growth in the og comic.

(not lu but still really good :)) ) the worldbuilding is,,, mwah things that go unnoticed about hyrule - this entire series of oneshots eats but this one is probably my favorite. hyrule & wild bonding but in the You Get It way

it's me wild! find me in the future! - wild stays for totk and the chain goes through the stages of grief live. i just??? enjoy the characterization for this???? everything that didn’t kill me - basically a 50 things that wild told the chain how he got his scars. this one is here for the whimsy. while reading i literally went "I GET IT. I UNDERSTAND" bc of some of the things listed also happened to me while playing botw. this one isnt serious in the slightest only the wild ones - the chain meet wild at various stages in his life. big brother twilight baybeeee mixing our history into our batter - aurora and wild bake together. this one just made me happy dude idk its just full of whimsy and silliness from castle town to ordon - wild is socially anxious, rich, and a menace, more at eleven i'm a riddle in nine syllables - the chain are ghosts that help wild on his adventure. i read this one real recently and i!!!! yk?

4) If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

I have two that come to mind immediately: Fear and Hunger, and League of Legends.

Given the setting, I think Fear and Hunger wouldn't be that much of a change in terms of horrors that he'd be pit up against, but I'd be curious to see how his owning a gun would change the game (I don't know shit about Termina so no spoilers). Also the idea of going through the Dungeon as a form of repentance for his past sins really draws my interest.

LOL is the less serious answer. I just think it would be neat for him to be from Bilgewater and see all the shenanigans he'd get himself into as a rogue/pirate.

I have many, to tell the truth: one, the most obvious one, is Reymas, because old men yaoi, but one less obvious is Dismas/Barristan, becuase EVEN OLDER MEN YAOI.

I also really like Dismas/Audrey. I can see them as friends with benefits that develop a romantic relationship.

Oh, and Dismas/Tardif because hate sex is good.

Well, there aren't many Dismas ship going around, since Reymas is very polarizing, but having written him in a romantic relationship with all the characters for my series, I'll say that I really can't see him in a reationship with Paracelsus, Josephine and Amani, so I guess these are my least favorite ships.

17) What’s a ship for this character you don’t hate but it’s not your favorite that you’re fine with?

Again, with Reyman almost being the only one Dismas ship going around, there isn't really anything that comes to mind, apart from the ones I've mentioned in the previous answer.

Maybe idk Dismas/Willam? It would be cute, I guess, but it isn't really something I think about.

21) If you’re a fic writer and have written for this character, what’s your favorite thing to do when you’re writing for this character? What’s something you don’t like?

The thing I like about Dismas is his determination and his desire for redemption. I like writing him as a sort of uncle figure to the other characters, and I think he slots well with everyone, if put in the right circumastance.

I don't think there is something I don't like about writing him.

Ah, I wish I could give a more informed reply. I haven't read many Spider-Man comics. (There are so many! 〒▽〒)

I'll read the occasional one where Fisk is involved, and a few to get some plot for other characters (like Hallows' Eve). I really need to follow a reading list for all of Richard's stuff. Because I'm intrigued by what you're saying. 👀 (I'm reminded of the Hawkeye tv series where Kazi was Maya's childhood friend, but Fisk sort of took over his life to make him work for, protect, and keep tabs on Maya.)

I want to declare Wesley the winner due to my limited perspective, but I don't know if he's guarding Fisk's body so much as his peace of mind. Not really violent himself, just... a guy who is dependably there. ♥ With support... or body cleanup... or towel...

While Sab was asleep the night after, I went into her-no our- house where I used to reside. Piles and piles of letters were strewn about the table where we'd always eat. She wasn't normally one to make a mess, someone else must have been here... I don't like that, not one bit... How dare they, try to make my own house feel foreign to me!

My gaze fell off the letters and to the backyard, the backyard where I had committed my crime just years earlier. Everything was the same, the garden was still out front, door shut. The archery target still outside, it hadn't been touched since the day of my crime... Selion had been so foolish that day that she didn't even think she had aided in her own death... Heh...

I opened the sliding glass door to the backyard, and... There it was... She was buried next to the idiot of my father... Fitting for her, but if the cops had found my body amongst the ashes of that exploded car that was once taking me to Alcatraz... I would've been buried where his tombstone stood... At least, that's what I'd have wanted.

My fingers grazed against her name on the tombstone. Even if she didn't come back like I did, the thought of me continuing to me with her after both of our passings filled me such a desire that is indescribable to be written on a sheet of paper such as this, I don't even know if this will make it into my novel... I've been avoiding Khatch for two weeks. Having had a jealous fit of rage when he told us he actually succeeded, or at least he felt his real self succeed. Normal people would've condemned him, sent him to prison (again) even, but me and Sab aren't normal people... His mum in his reality probably isn't normal either, considering she still stayed with him after what he did to her... Not like she had a choice in the matter, she was required by law, and he couldn't take care of himself (he didn't know how to drive, nobody would want to hire an ex-convict like him, he didn't care about getting a girlfriend since he was too obsessed with his own mum, etc.).

... I live in an apartment consisting of three people with oedipus complexes, and that includes myself. Do I enjoy it? Well duh, if I didn't I would've kicked them both out and ditched Sab. But that wasn't the case. If anything having people like me in the same house is rather enjoyable than it was when I didn't, but I rest my case.

I remember the day when he told us about what he saw. Apparently in his own dreams he can see what his real self sees, back in his own reality.

"IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME, KHATCHADOURIAN!" I shouted as I started to lunge at him, but Sab held me back.

"It's the one thing I've bested you at, Odum~" Khatch said slyly, almost like he wanted us to fight... It probably would've ended in a tie.

"F*CK YOU!" I retorted as Sab dragged me away to the bedroom, shutting the door behind me.

The argument didn't end with me blowing Sab's back out from rage (I wish it did, but no), instead he left me to think in the empty bedroom. When he figured it was time for me to come out of the room (that now held a punched wall from rage) I started to avoid Khatch. I still haven't spoken with him in two weeks. He hated being ignored, but he knew this game, and he played it well. He hasn't spoken with me in two weeks either...

But I know how it'll end, soon enough we'll speak with each other and we'll remain friends (like we already are), but the jealousy will never leave my clouded head...

... And every night since she died I look at the blinking streetlight beside our apartment balcony while I smoke... And think of her... Oh, to think something that morphed from sheer hatred from abuse could be so strong... Normal people would be sickened, but well, we're not normal... She wasn't normal either...

... But this night, this night was different...

It seemed like Khatch couldn't sleep, so he came out to join me while I smoked. He never smoked himself, but me doing it intrigued him. Finally, after he shut the door he spoke as he stood behind me, breaking the two-week long silence we held.

"… Y'know what he's going to say to you at some point?" Khatch asked.

"... He's going to make you choose between him and your obsession..."
