I didn't see these doodle pages posted on Tumblr as their own post, but thanks to @kogglyuffs, I could track them down! Enjoy, y'all-- for all the non-twitter users wondering what the buzz is about (I don't use Twitter but I did have to do some searching). Art drawn by one of the lovely creators of Dead Plate herself, @racheldrawsthis!

10 Man Dog Pound Cage Death Match - United Empire vs. Bullet Club War Dogs *****
Photos.
Wow, what a show this turned out to be. It started pretty ordinary, but ultimately had three exceptional bouts, one of which is the best match of 2024 so far. The show opened with CHAOS teammates Yano and YOH taking on Taguchi and Young Lion Shooter, Oleg. This was perfectly fine, but only went 3:45, so there really wasn't much to mention. YOH scored the win over Taguchi with a roll up. Next, UE Young Boy Callum Newman got a chance to shine in his tag match with O-Khan against Bishamon. This was a good little sprint, with the spirited Newman looking especially good. It wasn't to be his night, however, as he was put away by the veterans at 7:37 with Shoto.
The NJPW Babyfaces took on House of Torture next. This was your typical HoT match, beginning with a brawl, before the babyfaces got their shine, only to succumb to heelish shenanigans. After Dick Togo distracted the ref, Narita hit Tiger Mask with the Metal Plated Push Up Bar Of Doom, before SHO pinned him with a Shock Arrow in 8:43. Post match saw SHO steal Despe's IWGP Jr. Belt and proclaim himself the new champion, so we've got yet another HoT stolen belt deal, and Desperado seems destined to feud with these dorks for his entire reign. This was followed by pretty much the same LIJ vs. J5G match we've seen all tour now. It was a good outing, but I can't say that I'm interested in any of this, aside from Tsuji and Uemura's Hair Match in Sapporo at the end of the match. The two youngsters carried the action in this one, which culminated in SANADA tapping out BUSHI at 11:05 with Skull End to go strong into his Title Match with Naito on the 24th.
Perhaps the final ever Okada vs. Tanahashi match followed, twelve years to the day that the Rainmaker Shock happened in this very same building that made Okada a Superstar. This was excellent, emotional stuff that was by no means the best match these two have ever had, but it was a great send-off for what is perhaps the greatest, most consistent feud ever. I've potentially gone a tad high with the rating, but I don't care, I'm sticking with it, as this one had me invested from the minute the entrances happened. The Osaka faithful were super into this, loudly chanting for Okada at the start, going crazy throughout. Tana, who's definitely in "office shape" at the moment, even turned back the clocks and hit the High Fly Body Attack to the floor, which was awesome. After getting the knees up on a HFF attempt, Okada nailed the Tombstone, but Tana turned the Rainmaker into a small package for a great near fall. After some back and forth which the crowd were totally into, Okada hit a beautiful dropkick, a Landslide, and a Rainmaker to put the President away at 16:50 with one final Rainmaker. The pair embraced in the post match, and a teary bowed to the Lion Mark and Okada bid farewell to Osaka. He only has two matches left in his NJPW career in Sapporo, which should be similarly emotional occasions, and hey, who knows, maybe he could even put someone over on his way out (nudge nudge, wink wink).
The IWGP Tag Title bout that followed was something of a dampener, to say the least. This was the opposite of the last match, the crowd were dead for the most part, and it moved at the speed of smell. It was hovering around one star territory, but things picked up once Hikuleo got the hot tag and ran wild, but it was short lived as the ref got bumped, Taiji Ishimori ran in, hit his old pal ELP with a belt, then Hikuleo, which allowed KENTA to steal the win and the titles. Look, I know New Japan likes and rewards loyalty, and Chase Owens was there for them when they needed people badly, but the notion of him holding a major title in NJPW in 2024 is all kinds of bemusing. And to say the new GoD's Tag Title reign was a bit of a disappointment would be an understatement. These guys deserve better, and I honestly don't have the strength to watch another match between these teams after the two we've already seen so far this year.
Thankfully, things turned around in fantastic fashion with an absolutely perfect display of pro-wrestling between ZSJ and Bryan Danielson. This was a rematch of their 5 star classic in AEW last October, and it managed to surpass that match and is the best bout of 2024 so far. Outstanding grappling and counter sequences throughout this, Dragon used an arm wringer to send Sabre's legs into the ropes, which he then proceeded to work over the whole match with intense kicks and leglocks. Zack fought back, working over Danielson's neck. Lots of Romero Specials, Manjigatame's and Cobra Twists, before it broke down into a stiff strike exchange. Danielson hit a big Back Suplex off the top for a near fall, then tried Cattle Mutilation, which Sabre escaped and hit a Zack Driver for a near fall of his own. Dragon hit the stomps, then locked in the crazy arm submission he submitted Okada with, but Zack fought to the ropes. Another strike battle culminated in Danielson hitting the Busaiku Knee out of a backslide, but Sabre turned a second into a European Clutch, they exchanged great cradles, before ZSJ got the pin with a crucifix at 32:46 of fabulous action. The two shook hands afterwards, and now being 1-1, Danielson challenged Zack to a 2 out of 3 falls tiebreaker backstage, which I'm 100% down for. In the ring, ZSJ signalled he wanted a belt, then called out the winner of Naito/SANADA (despite what Chris Charlton might have claimed he said). I'm all for Zack winning the belt to be fair. I've lots to say about Naito being the champion again, which I'll refrain from, but all I will say is that the guy who holds the top belt in this company sure has felt like an after thought since winning.
Then the Dog Pound Cage main event that was also Will Ospreay's New Japan swan song. Look, theres way too much to even attempt to recap, and I went back and forth about going the full 5 stars on this one, as it did feature some stuff I really wasn't keen on. BUT, at the end of the day, these 10 guys put on an absolute spectacle of bloody drama and craziness, and it's definitely not a match I'll forgot any time soon, and a tremendous post match. They had an impossible task in following the previous match, but they had an equally blow-away outing, that was the complete wrestling polar opposite. This was set up like that classic ROH vs. CZW Cage of Death from 2006, in that the cage encircled ringside as opposed to the ring itself, and was fought under War Games rules, with guys coming out every two minutes.
Ospreay and Finaly started, with Ospreay convincing Finlay to let them fight for 5 minutes. Lots and lots of crazy stuff followed, which included the heels bringing out a ton of plunder, Akira hitting an incredible dive off the cage onto the War Dogs before Connors gave him a big spear through an upright table in the corner, Gabe Kidd potatoing HENARE with table shot, that split him open bad on the top of his head, which the doctors at ringside spent a lot of time trying to patch up. HENARE got a receipt of sorts later when he hit Kidd with a super stiff slap that looked like it knocked Gabe silly. Connors hit a big spear on Ospreay through the ropes, off the apron and through a table at ringside, Jeff Cobb ran wild on everyone with his incredible power moves, TJP emerged from under the ring as the Aswang, running wild and misting all the heels, Maloney broke up a pin attempt by Drilla Killa'ing Ospreay into the pile of bodies, Coughlin took a serious wilful beating with kendo sticks, who then took a big senton through a table off HENARE from the top of the cage. Connors introduced thumbtacks, but ended up bumping into the pins. Gedo came out with a barbed wire wrapped table, but O-Khan put an end to his interference, and it was Finlay who went through the barbed wire table, thanks to an Ospreay powerbomb. Gabe Kidd responded by hitting Ospreay with a piledriver off the apron, through a ladder bridge to the floor. Moloney forked Akira in the head, who juiced heavily, but then overcame his fear of the fork, no-sold it, and stabbed Drilla in the head with the cutlery, drawing his blood of his own, then hanged Connors over the top with a dog collar.
The heels then handcuffed Cobb to the cage, removed the ring canvas and padding, exposing the boards, and what followed was absolutely terrifying, as those boards were flying around and guys were falling through the ring left and right, to the point I thought someone might get seriously hurt. HENARE hit a massive vertical suplex on Kidd to the boards, before he too was handcuffed. Akira then took a horrendous Tombstone on the boards, which left Ospreay alone with the War Dogs. Sacrificing himself to save Akira, he tried a Hidden Blade, but collapsed from exhaustion, resulting in him taking a spear into the boards by Connors, then Finlay wrapped his knee in barbed wire and hit Ospreay with his new Overkill finish to end this insanity and win for his team in 64:05 of crazy, mind-blowing action.
The Overkill finish was quite ironic given the amounts of sheer overkill in this thing, there were times when I thought/was begging it would be over, but they just kept going and doing crazier stuff. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good crazy, unhinged blood and gimmicks match, and this was one of the best there's ever been, overkill or not. In the post match, Ospreay bid farewell to New Japan, and he got the big emotional send off with the confetti and all the UE guys surrounding him. Ospreay asked that the fans not forget him, and backstage he promised he'd be back, but when was still a mystery. Losing Ospreay is a major blow to NJPW (not to mention they're also losing Okada!), but I've no doubt he'll do great things in AEW.

Armored Necrogunner - CR14 Undead
Don't put TOO many holes in 'em. We need 'em for parts.
Tumblr media
Artwork provided by client.
"The thing about this power armor is that it gets grafted directly onto your flesh, and seared in place as the machinery overheats. Tends to make the person wearing it really complain a lot. So we switched to horrifying undead abominations; they don't mind as much since they can't feel pain.
Also, when it dies - well, it's already dead, but you know what I mean - the whole thing explodes into a swarm of rot grubs. Usually you can see those wriggling under the skin, but the armor hides it. Genius design, really."
- Necrocraft R&D Department Notes
This is a commissioned monster. Its hit points seem low at a glance, but the rot grub swarm that spawns from its corpse has another 85 HP. It doesn't precisely follow the necrocraft building rules in Bestiary 4, which require higher challenge rating creatures to be extremely big; a CR 14 necrocraft would normally be Colossal-sized. This creature uses construction points and the giantblooded template by Green Ronin Publishing to reach CR 9, but it has bonus hit dice and unique abilities to augment that, and I altered the Metal Armor necrocraft ability to match how armor actually works in Pathfinder a little better.
Although this creature can fly (flavored as a jetpack, not magic or wings), its automatic weapon is most useful if it's on the ground, since it's generally impossible to get multiple enemies in a line from the sky.
Armored Necrogunner - CR 14
Bolted directly onto the flesh of this undead giant are numerous interconnected steel plates, cords, and tubes. What's visible of the creature underneath the armor looks like a dozen different creatures stitched together. It's carrying a massive machine gun, and using a jetpack to fly.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Gatling Gun An armored necrogunner uses a gatling gun that is permanently grafted onto its body, and cannot be removed without destroying it. It can be sundered as normal, and has 10 hardness and 10 hit points. This is a masterwork modern firearm with the automatic weapon quality, which deals 8d6 damage. When attacking with the gatling gun, the armored necrogunner rolls a single ranged touch attack roll with a -2 penalty against all targets in a 200 ft. line. The armored necrogunner can make multiple such attacks as part of a full-attack action.
An armored necrogunner's gatling gun misfires if it rolls a natural 1 on an attack roll. A misfire gives the weapon the broken condition, but further misfires do not cause it to explode.
A single attack with the gatling gun uses 10 bullets. The gatling gun has a chamber size of 160 bullets, and thus can make 16 attacks before needing to be reloaded; it's a move action for the armored necrogunner to reload the gatling gun to its maximum capacity.
Grafted Armor An armored necrogunner wears heavy armor that functions like half-plate except that it is permanently grafted onto the armored necrogunner's body, and cannot be removed without destroying it. It can be sundered as normal, and destroying it deals 5d6 damage to the armored necrogunner.
Quick Clear (Ex) An armored necrogunner can remove the broken condition from its gatling gun as a move action, if that condition was caused by a misfire.
Rot Gub Infestation (Ex) When an armored necrogunner dies, it explodes into a swarm of rot grubs. Creatures within a 10-ft. radius, and any spaces below that radius (for example, if the armored necrogunner is flying when it dies), must succeed on a DC 21 Reflex save or be infested with rot grubs.
On a failed save, the infested creature takes 1d4 points of Constitution damage per round as the rot grubs burrow through and consume its flesh—this effect continues as long as the victim remains in the swarm and continues for 1d6 rounds after it leaves the swarm. Any energy-based attack (including damage from negative energy) that deals at least 5 points of damage to the victim automatically destroys all of the rot grubs infesting it, ending the effect prematurely. Additionally, any effect that removes disease instantly ends a rot grub infestation. Immunity to disease offers no defense. The save DC is Charisma-based.
A rot grub swarm is left in the armored necrogunner's space after it dies. If the armored necrogunner dies while flying, the rot grub swarm falls to the ground and takes falling damage as normal. Swarms take normal falling damage.

Reunion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Waking up dead was certainly an odd experience, to say the least. Not something anyone would expect, especially after dying in such a brutal, permanent manner. Killian Lynch hadn't wasted any time sticking around six feet under though. The moment his eyelids opened. his fist was already cracking through the coffin.
Surrounded by pure inky blackness and stale air in the small, restrictive space, it induced a dreadful feeling of claustrophobia in the 26 year old dead man. The darkness combined with confinement nearly brought back soul-wrenching memories, from years and years long gone by. Killian easily shoved the thoughts out of his mind just as he always did, and instead focused on busting out of his grave. He had an important matter to attend to, immediately.
It only took two punches for the hardwood coffin lid to practically splinter to chips. Dirt poured down on Killian's face. Lucky him, he didn't need to breathe. Forcing the packed, frozen earth up and out of his way felt effortless. All in all, it took under a minute to emerge from the soil and into the night air. The inhuman strength Killian now held due to his renewed status as a demon was to thank for such an easy and quick escape.
Now free and getting to his feet, Killian only had one thing on his mind, the same thing his mind always revolved around. Julius Goddamn Doherty. He was determined to find the other male and get whatever revenge he could for Julius's actions toward him. Julius murdered him for the most bullshit reason imaginable…then again, that was Julius for you.
The task of hunting down the person who'd taken his life - and the reason he'd now been brought back - was an easy one. The blonde knew, like an instinct, Julius would be in his shop. Well, a pocket dimension of Hell, which was knowledge Killian seemed to have inherently gained upon waking up from the dead.
Stalking fast through the cold, pitch-black, January night, it didn't take long to arrive on the familiar block of the city streets. Being likely the earliest few hours in the morning, naturally, all store and building window's lights were off, leaving the street shrouded in darkness. All...except, for one. With clenched fists, the blonde took off towards the warm, orange glow emitting from the dress shop's front windows.
Doherty's Dress Shop
Killian mercilessly kicked open the store's front door, breaking the lock and causing the hinges to rattle. Julius looked startled but not surprised as the blonde violently made entrance. If anything, he seemed to have been waiting for Killian, given Julius had made the choice of being seated on a leather sofa, placed near the store's entrance.
"Honey, I'm home!" Killian sneered sarcastically. Aggressively striding towards Julius, gold plated steel heels on the blonde's boots clacked loudly, striking the oak floor boards. "I'm back, remember me, bitch?!"
Julius rose to his feet in a graceful but almost robotic manner, blankly staring at the taller man the entire time. "Killian," the now-demon greeted flatly, "yes," he mused, seemingly rather out of it, "of course, I remember you."
Rage took over Killian at what an emotionless, lack of response Julius had. The strawberry blonde was in love with the other man, and he knew damn well Julius shared the same feelings for him. What he didn't understand was how Julius managed to be so convincing, pretending he didn't feel the same. Killian couldn't comprehend the other man near always acting as if he never had one, single, goddamn emotion towards him.
Of course, Julius did have many feelings for and emotions about Killian. All of which were now bubbling up inside, upon being reunited with…his everything. That's what Killian was and meant to Julius: everything. Digging razor-sharp teeth into his inner lip, Julius willed away tears. Only thanks to a lifetime of practice, was he somehow able to maintain the emotionless facade while observing Killian.
It didn't show through, but internally, Julius was shocked at how simultaneously similar, yet different Killian looked. The blonde was just as handsome, if not more than ever. Julius discreetly swallowed a verbal reaction to how stunning he found Killian's new, demonic appearance to be – despite him being somewhat dirty at the moment (thanks to having to climb out of the grave).
Already fair skin had turned a ghostly white, making Killian's strawberry blonde, overgrown stubble stand out more – something Julius found very attractive. However, the skin around Killian's eye sockets and on his lips had suffered discoloration, of what could only be described as the hue of death. The dark tone of it starkly contrasted against Killian's now fully electric blue eyeballs, causing the shocking sight of them to jump out even more prominently. The blonde's new lack of pupils unnerved Julius a bit, leaving him unable to tell exactly where Killian's gaze was. Though, Julius could feel the intensity of it locked directly on him.
The last, huge change to the strawberry blonde's appearance caused an indescribable ache to develop in Julius's chest. On Killian's neck, there was now a large, angry red, and barely healed scar…right where he'd slit the other man's throat, resulting in Killian's death. Julius always had found the scars on Killian's body to be, quite frankly, sexy. However, the new scar was a reminder, a painful one, of the last time they'd been together. Julius thought it would have been the final time, after he'd realized the reality of what he had done.
Guilt flooded Julius, along with anger toward himself and a sense of incredibly deep sadness. He had missed Killian, he'd missed him so fucking much. Julius had found out he was incapable of living without the blonde. When he'd gone to Killian's grave to apologize and inform the dead man that they'd be together again soon, Julius had meant as in death.
The young man, truthfully, set himself up to be killed, since he always failed attempts from his hand. What Julius didn't expect at the time was to be offered a deal with the devil. He never could have foreseen being turned into and brought back as a demon, and by proxy Killian, who was to serve him eternally.
The couple (and there was no use continuing to deny that's what they were) could never be separated again. Julius and Killian's souls had become intertwined, to put it simply. For better or worse, they were destined to be together for eternity. Julius knew how he felt about that, but he didn't want to acknowledge it.
Resisting the urge to run and embrace the man he loved, Julius instead chose to coldly cross his arms and straighten his back with shoulders squared. He tilted his chin up slightly in a challenging manner, his facial expression growing even more cold and dead.
Locked in a silent staring contest and unable to read whatever Julius felt and thought, Killian also took in the other's changed appearance. What had once been fiery red hair, often worn slicked back, was now fluffy, long, bangs stylishly falling in front of his face, colored a bright purple, with cherry-pink tints. Previous ocean blue eyes had become icy, near white, and seemed to glow ever so slightly. Pale though gently sun-tanned skin had become the color of porcelain, just like the dolls Julius so would collect and obsess over for as long as Killian could recall.
The man…no, demon, resembled a porcelain doll, himself. With the dramatic make up, round cheeks and small but full pouty lips, both colored a soft pink, Julius nearly could pass as a life-sized porcelain doll.
Of course, there was a small, black heart on his cheekbone as well as a pair of bracelets adorning both slender wrists; charms in the shape of hearts. What had once been fingernails were now long, dangerously sharp, pitch-black claws. Julius previously had slightly crooked teeth, which had slowly been stained over the years from smoking – something Killian always found cute, especially on the rare occasion of Julius smiling. Now, in their place were sharp fangs - every last tooth was now a bright white and fanged, with a particularly dangerous-looking pair of canines.
Julius had new clothing, as well. Gone were the monochrome colors. His clothing was now brighter, flamboyant, and much more fitted. His heels were higher, on new, dark leather boots that reached his mid-thigh. In fact, all his clothes appeared to be leather, minus the bright blue shirt which had a low cut with white lace trim. The top few buttons were undone, showing off his muscular chest that was emphasized by a dramatically tight corset vest. Skin tight, black leather pants shined in the light. Halters on his thighs looked more like garters with the way he'd fastened them to his belt.
The person Killian had known and fallen for was still recognizably there, though not by much. Nevertheless, it was undeniable that Julius was more breathtaking than ever, which was both to Killian's dismay and pleasing. Dismay, because the so terrifyingly gorgeous man made it difficult to not think about how he'd look while Killian ravished him. Something he'd done countless times with Julius.
Mostly, the sex was rough, beyond it. On many occasions, it was violent and hateful, even. There were times, however, it had been slow, meaningful, and filled with emotions of love and happiness. They'd both confess their feelings towards each other while making love, even though Julius would always either say he'd been lying or flat-out pretend it hadn't happened the following morning. God, did that hurt Killian to his core - every time it happened, it hurt worse than the last.
What made it worse was the way he could see the spark of joy that would flicker in Julius's eyes when he hurt Killian. It was the spark that would flicker when Julius was telling when he was showing Killian how much he loved and cared. It made the blonde feel like he was going insane, more and more by the day.
Killian never understood it, how did Julius get so much joy from hurting the person he so deeply loved? Why did he do it? Why did Julius so terribly want to tear Killian apart inside, crush his soul into dust and turn his heart this cold? And why on Earth did Killian let him, so easily? Especially after the blonde had sworn to himself that no one would ever be capable of breaking him down, something he had damn well followed through on, he still let Julius continue breaking, ripping both his heart and soul to shreds.
A conscious decision. Killian knew it was his choice to let Julius continue hurting him. He could have ended it permanently by simply placing a bullet between the other man's eyes, an action he'd committed so casually that it came to Killian as easily as breathing. The reason he didn't end things, didn't end Julius Goddamn Doherty himself, was not because Killian had some delusion Julius would change - and honestly, he didn't want Julius to change. Julius scared Killian, he was the only person capable of doing so, and Killian loved it as much as he loved Julius. It was one of the reasons the blonde had fallen in love with him, to begin with.
Truthfully, Killian couldn't have ever brought himself to end the life of the man who made him feel alive. Hell, it was driving him mad the more he thought about it because Killian knew damn well he enjoyed hurting and breaking Julius too. The blonde tried to ration with himself that it must be due to the feeling of absolute dominance, power, and control that it gave Killian to cause harm to, to turn helpless, to use, to break down the only person capable of striking fear into his soul like the hand of God. He tried to convince himself the enjoyment he got watching the shorter man suffer at his hands was all rooted in a mentality of taking the power back from Julius. Showing who was really in control, reminding Julius that he only held any power if Killian allowed it.
Or, were they both just that fucked up, to find enjoyment in bringing pain to the person they loved the most? Undeniably, they did it to each other, even if it was in different ways. For the most part, Killian would inflict physical harm upon Julius and found enjoyment in it. Whereas, Julius tended to prefer inflicting harm mentally on Killian and found enjoyment in it. For some inexplicable and messed up reason, both men were always egging each other on to do more and do worse. Julius admitted he liked the pain, and Killian admitted he loved the way Julius scared him was no different.
What Killian didn't love was the way Julius weaponized love. The blonde knew it was because Julius was too scared to make himself that vulnerable to him, fearing what Killian would do if he let his guard down when it came to their love. Ironically, the only thing that Julius was terrified of when it came to Killian, was the only thing Killian wished he wouldn't be scared of. Love wasn't something to weaponize, not as far as Killian believed, at least. So why did Julius do that to him?
Memories upon memories flooded the blonde man as he stared at the love of his life. Half of Killian wanted to scream at, hurt, and break apart Julius for everything he'd done, the other half wanted to forgive, embrace, apologize, and kiss while confessing everything he felt for Julius. All of him wanted to do the entirety of that and more.
"You gonna speak or just keep staring, Killy?" Julius sneered. Contrary to his change in appearance, Julius's personality seemed to have remained fully intact.
The comment was all it took for the strawberry blonde to snap. Lunging at the now purple-haired man, with newly acquired inhuman strength, he easily tackled and pinned Julius to the floor beneath himself.
Caught off guard at the sudden escalation, Julius yelped in surprise as Killian grabbed him, grunting in pain upon being mercilessly slammed into the hardwood floor. "Oh, now what the fuck was that for?!" Julius's voice dripped with sarcasm, groaning a bit at the immediate smack to the mouth Killian gave him.
Courtesy of the violent contact his head made with the floor upon both being tackled and then once more due to the brute force of the smack, Julius was over overwhelmed by the searing pain. The result was retorting with nothing more than an incoherent stream of swears while Julius attempted to squirm his way out from underneath the larger man.
Killian was thoroughly unamused by the sarcastic comment and half-intelligible insults now being thrown at him, "Oh, shut the fuck up!" He punctuated his words with harsh, repeated smacks across Julius's face. "Don't tell me you fuckin' thought you was gonna getta way unscathed, not with that shit you pulled, damn bitch!"
The purple-haired demon gave up on his fruitless attempts to get away. Instead, Julius's body went entirely limp and he just stared up with icy eyes. "What are you gonna do to me, Killy? We're both dead, you can't murder me for revenge," Julius bluntly stated the fact, in a monotone.
Killian became even more enraged by the ever-depleting emotions from Julius. His response was to grab Julius's slim wrists with bruising force, pinning both hands above his head. With nothing but danger in his voice, despite the quiet and calm tone, "I'm gonna fuckin' hurt you, just like you goddamn hurt me," Killian chuckled darkly.
The reply Julius gave was nothing more than kneeing the blonde in the gut and spitting in his face. He successfully knocked the wind out of Killian, but Julius had exhausted himself on his spree kill earlier. He hardly finished cleaning himself up from the blood bath, let alone had time to relax, before the blonde returned to his life. With much lower strength than usual (and certainly much less than the other demon held, at the moment), Julius hadn't even mustered enough force to knock the other away from him. All he'd done was piss off Killian more.
"Ya wanna fuckin' fight, Julie?!" Killian screamed, leaning mere inches from Julius's face. His emotions, his hurt, and pain, like always, came out as anger. Taking advantage of how skinny the purple-haired demon's wrists were, the blonde quickly maneuvered both into a tight lock with a single hand. Now freed, long, slender digits wrapped around Julius's throat, in a grip that was light yet threatening. "Ya wanna feel some pain, ya fuckin' bitch?! Ya always wanna start shit ya can't finish - and ya ain't able to get ridda me again, piece'a shit! Good for nothin' bitch, you are! All ya know how to goddamn do is fight 'nd fuck! So which the hell do ya want from me this time?! Huh?!"
"I want you to fuck right off and stay dead!" Julius spat the words as he gave up struggling from the pin Killian had him in on the floor. Killian smirked knowing Julius had given up.
It was all so familiar to Killian, wanting nothing more than to tell Julius just how much he loved him and how he wanted nothing more than to be together - but utterly failing to do so. Instead, he was screaming at the other man, hurting him and further destroying whatever trust Julius might have for him, therefore only hurting himself, in the process. That's when it finally clicked for the blonde. He didn't want to continue the way he had with Julius.
Killian hated his inability to communicate with Julius. Killian detested himself for treating the one he loved so poorly. The blonde realized it was wrong, that this was not how you treated someone you loved and wanted to spend forever with. The problem was, Killian didn't know how to convey his feelings properly; which only served to frustrate him further. Plus, the simple idea of making himself so valuable - to someone so dangerous, at that - caused the man to shut down emotionally. When Killian shut down emotionally, everything came out as anger.
Julius's chest heaved, thoroughly exhausted to the point he couldn't be bothered to continue a physical fight. He was too exhausted to bother continuing his act. For good. He didn't have it in him anymore to keep going the way he had, lying to Killian just to hurt him with this facade of nothingness. He'd done it for so long and all for what? Only to murder the one person he'd ever felt something so real, so intense and so undeniably for. The only person who likely ever truly loved and cared for him - albeit in his messy way - and the only reason Julius could confidently say he knew what it felt like to love and care for another.
Sudden clarity washed over Julius. He didn't understand why he was so stubborn and insisted on pretending that he wasn't in love with Killian, given he had admitted it out loud to the blonde, on countless occasions. What was trying to take it back every single time even doing, other than sending both men in an unnecessary spiral of destruction? He was hurting them both, Julius knew it and he couldn't bear any more of the pain, all built up for so long. Rather than continue trying to hide a thing, Julius did something that shocked both men to their cores. He cried.
Julius cried and it shattered Killian in a way neither could have predicted possible, but they were both crying now. Still locked in a stare-down and on the floor in their position from fighting, both men were uncontrollably sobbing as all the barriers held for so long crashed down at once.
Things didn't need to be spoken aloud to be understood. Julius and Killian always had an uncanny way of communicating with each other through nonverbal means, but there was no way to misinterpret the significance of finally letting themselves be utterly vulnerable in their feelings. They both held deep pain, caused by a vicious competition of who could hurt who worse. Neither of them had ever let the other catch a glimpse of the harm that was inflicted, at least not emotionally.
Both had been boys from broken homes that grew into broken men, never truly having been shown compassion in their formative years. Regardless of how toxic even the earliest years of their friendship had been, Julius and Killian always had each other. Attached at the hip since they'd met two decades ago as small children, and only now did they completely emotionally break down, in front of each other; together. They hurt because they'd been hurting each other.
Killian softly cupped Julius's cheeks with both hands, wiping tears away gently with his thumbs. In response, Julius lifted his badly shaking hands to Killian's face as well, copying the action. For some time, the two stayed like that, without a word. Simply being open in their pain while comforting the other, as opposed to relishing in it. Mutual trust was still there, stronger than either man had thought, maybe stronger than it ever had been. Julius and Killian had been through everything together and somehow, even after all they'd done to hurt each other, they were only more in love.
Neither Julius nor Killian wanted to continue the abuse towards each other. They didn't have it in themselves to willfully further inflict pain now that they were sharing the extent they'd damaged the other – and themselves – by doing the things that had been done. The past could never be changed, however, the future was in their control. It would take time and a lot of learning with patience, but both men were determined to improve their relationship. Learn to treat each other right. The stubbornness they both had could be used for good.
Killian spoke through tears, with a small but real smile forming on his face, "we have an unbreakable bond, not even death could separate us."
Sucking in a sharp breath and attempting to glare, Julius choked out, through a sob, a very unconvincing, "I hate you!" The expression of guilt along with the tears streaming down his cheeks made it painfully clear how upset Julius was with himself for being unable to speak what he meant.
Bad at dealing with his own emotions, Killian understood that Julius's feelings also often came out in anger. However, rage didn't get the better of the blonde this time. Instead, quite the opposite. Without hesitation or even a thought, Killian pulled Julius into his arms, embracing him close and tight as he spoke, "I love you, too."
Killian didn't give the other man a chance to respond, the blonde crashed his lips against the others, capturing Julius in a slow, loving, and extremely passionate kiss. There was no hesitation on the purple-haired demon's part to throw his arms around the blonde and cling to him, melting against Killian's chest. Julius's lips eagerly moved against the other man's, content to follow Killian's lead.
For the first time, Julius didn't once attempt to challenge the blonde's dominance. Rather eagerly, Julius completely submitted which only became more clear as the kiss started to intensify and things began to heat up. Killian understood the significance of Julius giving him all the power and control. It was a display of the shorter man's absolute trust in Killian.
Words didn't need to be spoken by Julius for the blonde to understand their love always had been and always would be very much mutual.
[end.]

As a way to give this blog some purpose, and give myself something to do, I’ve decided to start writing out my RPG musings in my spare time. I’ve been slowly working on a campaign setting for several years now, and it’s become a little creative space for me to hammer out a hypothetical kitchen sink to throw my fantasy ideas in. I’ll probably end up using it for a Pathfinder game (where I’ll finally get to use Spheres of Power/Might, and maybe even Guile), but I’ve thought about running it with an OSR game as well. Who knows, maybe I’ll run it over several different systems. Without further ado, here’s the first installment!
This idea was created using Ultimate Engineering, the most recent (and final) Pathfinder product for Spheres of Might from Drop Dead Studios. I contributed a bit to the playtesting and had a great time, and its author spent two years fine tuning it, so if you're interested, go support them and take a look. At the time of writing, it should also be on the SoP wiki any day now.
In the core of the setting, the city of Scalmoor treats scientific advancement like its own fom of magic. They build marvelous contraptions of steel and glass, whether powered by tightly wound clockworks or by burning coal and spewing black smoke. In this city, the law is kept by those with the most money to build the biggest toys, and one such toy is the Ottoguard.
Standing at eight feet tall, an Ottoguard is a hollow sort of mechanical construct, but bears no magic or animating consciousness like a golem. Instead, a trained fighter pilots it, wearing it as a sort of incredibly heavy armor that carries itself. Ottoguards don’t do all of the policing, usually accompanied by a few regular guards who can do things like fit into buildings, move obstacles aside, bully civilians up close and personal, and so on and so forth.
Ottoguard CR 1 XP 400 Human Warrior 3 LN Medium Humanoid (Human) Init +2; Perception +5

Those stats above are for if our unlucky Ottoguard pilot is caught… off-guard. They’re there to represent what’s inside the fantastic mech and what he’s trained to do in a fight, particularly specializing in nonlethal capture- even when fully kitted out he’s here to apprehend criminals, not brain them. The crossbows are just for emergencies. So let’s break down what he’s capable of as a third level warrior, namely his talents:
His Equipment Sphere talents are there solely for proficiencies, for the Sap and for medium/heavy armor. The Athletics Sphere lets him run pretty quick (five times his speed in medium armor, at a hundred feet per round)- he won’t be able to outrun most people, but he won’t fall too far behind either. Tinker is much more complex, opening up an entire subsystem, but the bulk of why it’s there is to build and maintain his precious Ottoguard, with Mechanical Arsenal allowing him to outfit it with custom-crafted plate-mail for free, and Transportation Mastery allowing him to make an immersive cockpit that responds to his movements with a complicated array of levers and pulleys. Wrestling is there so that he can tackle a criminal and, if needed, beat them unconscious. It’s alright though, because even if it’s scaled up to be sized for an ogre, a lead rod wrapped in leather will still deal nonlethal damage.
Mechanoid Statistics: 4th level Mechanoid N Large Construct Init +2; Perception +5

The Ottoguard, while piloted, can benefit from its pilot’s skills, feats, saving throw bonuses, base attack bonuses, et cetera, while keeping its own physical ability scores, armor class, and better weaponry, while also having its own pool of hit points. The pilot isn’t totally sequestered, however, and some parts of him are still visible, even if they’re behind hatches or a visor, and he may be attacked separately from the Ottoguard- though he benefits from Cover, gaining a +4 bonus to Armor Class.
An Ottoguard isn’t cheap, of course, but by the rules of Ultimate Engineering, Project Materials (for things such as mechanoids) may be acquired freely with time and successful crafting checks (DC 15 for 50 gold worth of material, +50 for each increase of 5, gathered over the course of 4 hours per check), meaning that by carefully sourcing and repurposing parts, the Ottoguard may be constructed from scratch by its pilot for free. This process of assembly and subsequent maintenance are drilled into pilots’ heads from day one. At a cost of 500gp for the average Ottoguard (100 per level, +200 for being large size), and about 100gp of Project Materials being acquired per day, this means an Ottoguard can be fully constructed in a week’s time (not counting the weekend of course). If in a proper settlement and in a real emergency, 500 gold pieces can be paid outright to acquire exactly what is needed almost immediately, after which construction of the Ottoguard takes 1 hour. All of this means that while Ottoguards are probably extremely similar on the outside (serving as somewhere between uniforms and police vehicles, they probably should), a pilot knows their machine inside and out, and there may be differences in the internal construction.
Ottoguard Adventure Hooks
1. A pilot’s Ottoguard has been stolen, likely to be reverse engineered by some enterprising criminals.
2. A pilot has been found guilty of illegally modifying his Ottoguard with blades, flame projectors, and stronger leg actuators. After causing several fires and deaths, he’s gone on the run with his new death machine.
3. A chaotic druid has caused trees and vines to grow over all of the city’s Ottoguards overnight, and has ruined the Ottoworks. With the city’s strongest defenders disabled, and Scalmoor’s stingy oligarchy unwilling to fund that many replacements immediately, the city is in shambles!
4. A mad tinker wizard has stolen the blueprints for the Ottoguards, creating one with an integrated Artificial Intelligence. It’s been going on its own patrols, blending in perfectly and disappearing before it can be apprehended. What is its purpose?
*New Martial Tradition
Mechaguard Equipment Sphere: Bounty Hunter’s Tools Armor Training Tinker Sphere: Transportation Package Wrestling Sphere: (Constrictor Drawback) Hammerlock
Inspirations:
FantasyNameGenerators is a wonderful site, and I used it to come up with the name Scalmoor
Appleseed (the 1988 OVA) is what really inspired this idea, bringing that movie's Landmates into a technologically advanced fantasy setting

Ghonathawn
Tumblr media
“Monster Hunter Creature “ © Nar Genc, accessed at their ArtStation here
[Commissioned by @tar-baphon, who wanted a bigger, tougher version of the ghonhatine fleshwarp from Bestiary 4. The trick was making it unique enough for it to be its own sort of creature, but similar enough to make the similarity clear.]
Fleshwarp, Ghonathawn CR 15 CE Aberration This creature looks like an enormous lizard, with armor plating along its back and swollen, luminous cheeks. Oily black liquid oozes from pores along its body, and several rows of long spikes grow from its tail.
A ghonathawn is an improvement on the fleshwarping techniques that produced the ghonhatine, larger and more powerful. They are very rare, as they require the drow fleshwarpers to begin with a troglodyte paragon, the leftovers of the former magical society ruled by the xulgath in millennia past. The ghonathawn retains more of its former personality, viewing itself as a master of other fleshwarps, and some drow even trust them with the autonomy to make tactical decisions on the battlefield.
Ghonathawns are constantly ravenous, and they view most creatures that are not drow or other fleshwarps as food. They move towards the middle of combat, hosing enemies down with diseased acid generated in their cheeks and stomach, and nauseating anyone still standing with their vile, oily musk. A ghonathawn fights until slain, never retreating from a combat unless ordered to by a drow or compelled with magic.
