Minami Lane Demo Review

So Last week I finally tried rebalancing my life and made times for hobbies! Not sure how long it will last cause Feb & Mar are always terrible for my S.A.D but we move.

So I got this demo from steam nextfest last week. It was recommended to me by steam and then after I had already downloaded it, it also got recommended by both Payton and Kennedy on youtube. I thought the art was super cute and that was what originally drew me in. The premise also seemed nice to me and at first I wasn't sure if it was a game I'd buy but I knew I at least wanted to demo it. I'm so glad I did!!

The game was totally adorable and I had a lot of fun! The demo was only 2 mission while I believe the full game will be at least 5 missions and a sandbox mode.

So what's it about? Minami Lane is this absolutely adorable cosy game where you build and manage a street. You customise buildings, manage shops and try to maximise your villagers happiness. Normally I'm a bit avoidant of management games recently because I feel like a lot of them are too much. There is so much to manage, they move quickly and normally they also have a pretty large scale. Bascially, modern management games tend to make me overwhelmed. However, this reminded me of some of the like early 2010s management games that were way more chilled and laid back.

Pros

The game mechanics were easy to understand

It was fun!

The challenges were difficult enough that you had to work for them but not so difficult that you got fustrated

You can pause or speed up time

There's a clear daily review at the end of the day that summarises what you accomplished and your villagers overall thoughts and ratings which was layed out nice and easy to understand

After Mission 1, you can save the reviews your villagers have of your shops which is great at helping you keep track of what you need to change

The customisation options for buildings were nice

Actually the building options on a whole were cool, there was a boba shop, a bookstore and a ramen shop to name a few.

It autosaves

The art style was adorable (wow I've used that word a lot)

The music was nice

Cons

I found that sometimes the trash you had to pick up was really hard to spot. My villagers would say something was there and I'd have to pause time and zoom in to try to find it.

You can't rewind time or restart a day and a couple times I accidentally started my day before adding a building.

You can't change where a building is located and you can only add 1 space to the left at a time.

Overall I really enjoyed this game and I added it to my wishlist. I hope you give this game a try if you like cosy relaxing games. It releases this month on 28th February and it's estimated to be about 2-4 hours playtime. I don't currently know what the price will be but at that play time I can't imagine it being over US$10. The creators have also stated on the steam page that there won't be any new levels added after release which furthers my belief that this will be a cheap game.

You sighed as you stood infront of the door to the studio, your heart slightly jumping at the thought of the red haired boy sitting inside waiting to work with you. You were one of KQs best song writers and always were praised for your works by hongjoong and Maddox especially since you worked with them alot, even helping them prepare KQ new boy groups debut album. That's how you met Lee Yechan.

You knew Minjae as both him and you were sm trainees at first untill you realised maybe idol life isn't the best for you so you moved to KQ to pursue your songwriting passion. During xikers debut preparation you were met with a red haired boy that held minjaes hand, his eyes roamed everywhere almost as if he was scanning the place. He looked like a cat you thought.

That's how you knew about Minjae, Yechan and Sumin, the rapper line who you would get close to. Since they were at the same age group as you it took no time for you four to get along well, sometimes even pranking the KQ staffs together and having fun in between recording sessions.

You twisted the door knob when you hear a 'come in' a smile forming on your lips as you see yechan sitting next to Maddox, his hair was messy, his headphones were lifted off his left ear to listen to Maddox's instructions as they played the demo. You close the door behind you and leave your bag onto one of the chairs, taking a seat next to yechan.

You were supposed to work with Yechan for one of xikers upcoming songs. At first, it felt like a piece of cake because Yechan was the easiest to work with. Although the boy was loud at times, he was always so soft and sweet with you, making you develop a crush on the now grape haired boy.

Days went by and you got more busy with college too which resulted in you not having time to go to the studio as often. Yechan texted you saying he understood your situation which you felt so grateful for.

However, you got quickly burnt out from college, not to mention how your family were giving you slight troubles too with your parents constantly nagging at how you were always late to come back home when really you were travelling back and forth from your university to the company.

Yechan noticed how serious you've gotten in the past few days, you almost never joked around and only slightly smiled at minjae and sumins horrible dad jokes.

You on the other hand was scared. Scared that the feeling of overwhelming stress might've made you act differently towards the boy which is the last thing you'd want.

But the unfortunate happened.

Yechan entered the vocal room, getting himself to warm up as you looked through his part. He nodded signalling he was ready to record his part of the song. However something was missing, he wasn't himself, his flow of rap would be broken from time to time almost as if he was getting distracted.

You didn't want to loose your cool but you were getting tensed too. You cut him off and scolded him, Your only motive was to get the boy ace his rap like how he used to but it was clear he had something else on his mind. Only if you knew it was you that was on his mind.

He looked down, tears threatening to fall. Maddox tells the two of you to take a break as he notices the atmosphere in the studio tense up. A 15 minute break was what you two were given so when yechan didn't show up 30 minutes later you started to get worried. You looked out the window to see it was pouring, 'he couldn't have gone outside could he?' You excuse yourself and run out to try and find yechan, you get out of breath and panic takes over you as Yechan doesn't pick your call. Maybe you were too harsh. You run through the streets a little further untill you see a familiar boy sheltering himself from the rain.

You sprint up to him and hug him, the impact making him stumble back but he regained his position. You felt a tear roll down your cheek, Yechan was drenched from the rain and shaking from the cold. You felt your whole world crash down and you feel your shoulder get wet from yechans tears as he trembled more into your embrace, uncontrollable sobs left his lips as he holds you tight. You pull away with a slight smile, caressing his cheeks, " I'm sorry" he says looking down. "You're ok Yechan, I should be the one apologizing." Your eyes soften at him, he looked at you with a smile, shaking his head. "None of us were at fault, you had other things on your mind and so did i" he says with a chuckle, wiping away his tears as you nod. "Let's go back? Maddox will get worried if we're out for too long" you say as you hold his arm trying to walk out, the heavy pour now slowed down to a light drizzle. You felt your hand get tugged back and when you turn around you feel a pair of lips on yours. A shy grin spreads across your lips as you return the sweet gesture, yechans hands snakes around your waist, pulling you close as you share a sweet kiss under the rain. He pulls away with the most adorable smile you've ever seen, you peck his cheeks before pulling him with you. You two walked hand in hand back to the company, only to find a very distressed Minjae pacing back and forth, scolding you two as he gives you two each a towel to dry yourself. You couldn't help but giggle at how adorable he looked with messy hair as he crinkled his nose at Minjae who wouldn't stop nagging at how he'd catch a cold at this rate if he continued being this playful.

At the end of the day you bid goodbye to the xikers members, wishing them good luck since their recording sessions were over and now they had to shoot their mv scene and learn the choreography.

As you were about to leave you feel an arm wrap around yours, looking up to see yechan smiling cheekily at you. You smile back, tilting your head in confusion, he looks around and cups your cheek, placing a quick peck on your lips before running away screaming " I love you my y/n !"

I don't mean to bother you but I'm just curious if you got the game recommendation ask with Dredge and Children of Morta I sent or if tumblr ate it.

Also it didn't occur to me until way later that you might have only been asking for danganrompa like games so if that's the case sorry for sending unrelated game reccs to your inbox.

If you did get it please don't feel like you have to rush to answer it or check them out. (And if you didn't I still recommend them as they're quite fun.)

I, sadly, did not get the recs (thanks tumblr you broken site) but once I saw this, I immediately went to check the games out.

And I should have made that clear, I wasn't looking for DR-like games only, I really am versatile when it comes to video games and will take a look at any rec. =D

So Dredge I already saw on stream - it was very good, but not my kind of playstyle (it felt too repetitive to keep my attention, I tend to drift a little in such cases and that would be a pity).

But Children of Morta looks to be VERY nice! I'm downloading the demo right now to test it out. But so far, it catches my interest because a) cute artstyle, b) very interesting idea to have a roguelike with so many different characters and a leveling system which benefits all the characters and c) FAMILY FEELS?! You all know I'm weak to that. XD

I will post a bit once I got around to really playing it!

I'm in dire need of game reccomendations.

Here's my criteria:

I can sink a lot of time into the game (I'm disabled and can't leave the house much, I need something to do all day)

The game doesn't put me under a lot of preassure (I have my stressful games already )

They should have a singleplayer option so I don't have to be perceived by other players

They don't yap my ear off with dialogue and cutscenes (story heavy is okay, but I prefer games that let me do things, either the story is nicely cut up by gameplay or I have agency in the story via dialogue options)

They run on a laptop (my laptop is pretty beefy, it runs stuff like genshin and bg3 no issue, but stuff like infinity nikki are too much to handle for it)

They don't have turn based combat (I'm really picky with my turn based combat, it tends to stress me out)

Some can have but not must haves:

Open world to explore

Gacha is a can have, but only if the gacha currency can be obtained through gameplay, it's a nice way to get me to wanna grind

Free to play is nice, but I'm also willing to pay if the game convinces me enough. A free demo would be very nice in that case.

Marsden Rock location recce

Me, Ella, Martha and Monica took a trip down to South Shields to check out the beach at Marsden Rock, as well as scout out a few other potential locations.

We met up with one of my family members, who will be letting us stay with them when we come to actually shoot.

This is an area I know very well, and so I was able to tell the girls facts and stories about some of the places we visited. We took lots of photos including our headshots for the pitch, as well as getting a sound recce video for our sound team, Louie and Fred. It was so nice to be able to see the space and everyone was really able to properly visualise our ideas.

Me and Ella created a little demo of part of the dream sequence, in order to be able to play about with how we will be able to create the dreamy effects, which is still to be edited. I made a little mood video of our recce which I feel really reflects how we want the film itself to look.

MOVING DAY PREPARATIONS

I was DOP for this film, written by Kyle, directed by Sophie M and produced by Mara.

Sophie came to me with a shotlist a few weeks before the shoot - it was a bullet pointed list with description of what she'd like to see in the frame. We went through it together and I asked her to talk me through her choices. I ended up changing a few things before finalising it but made sure Sophie was happy with all of these changes. For example, there was a few shots I managed to combine together to then use that time on parts of the film we had less coverage for. I finalised the shotlist and made a marked up script using it which I sent to Esther to make a shooting schedule with.

Before the shoot, I managed to tag along to Sophie and Kyle's acting and blocking rehearsals and I ran around with my Magic Cinema ViewFinder to create a storyboard of sorts. I fear to share any results from that app on here as it all looks awful but was really useful in understanding the space and blocking.

Me and Sophie also called Andrew a week before the shoot to discuss our lighting and camera plans. I made a list of things to discuss with him - whether we have too much movement in our shots, how to achieve realistic natural daylight in this overcast weather and how to make the space work for us lighting wise as the location was very open-space, meaning light could spill or not reach areas and it made it difficult to have any lights or flags without them being in shot as I wanted to have interesting dynamic frames where you can see as much of the space as possible.

Andrew gave us some brilliant ideas. Sophie mentioned the idea of reflections which he gave us great advice on too. I put all of this into a document to talk with Lewis, our gaffer, and we decided on a lighting plan.

Andrew had suggested the Arri 1.2 HMI - a very powerful light that is calibrated for daylight. He suggested shining it through the windows into the hallway/kitchen/ living room. It was a brilliant idea and there was even a patio which all three rooms' windows shared. As the light is not usually available to third years, Andy got Andrew's blessing for us to use it then gave us a demo on it. His warnings about the power of the light got to me and I made a document on everything Andy mentioned that I asked all crew to read to be aware of what we're working with. I also wanted to be fully transparent with the owner of the location (who is our actor) and I briefed him on the HMI to make sure he was happy with it being used at his house.

During the recce, I took measurements and did a sketch of a floorplan in my notebook which Sophie put into shot designer and made a blocking plan with. I then made a camera and lighting plan with it.

We wouldn't have time to do an equipment check which was unfortunate as I know that some (all?) of the long leg Ronfords have been acting up and I also wanted to test the 12K Ursa we had to use due to one of our Ursas being damaged. I did some research myself and was in contact with Ben and Andy who gave me a bunch of information and advice on it. I also luckily had Gus as my 1st AC who had to use the 12k a week before the Moving Day shoot for the film he was DOP on as his group was also affected. This meant he already had some practice with it. We called and talked about the camera and the shoot in general. The 12K was not very different from what we were used to but it was the recording settings that I was nervous about. We couldn't shoot lower than 4K and had to shoot in RAW so our files would be huge. Our editor and DIT was aware of this and had set aside time for it and we even had 3 C-FAST cards just incase we did run out of space.

There was a lot of meetings and back and forth as we initially had a lot of exterior dolly shots but there was rain forecasted and we also had limited daylight. Therefore, I suggested we plan to get exterior on the 20th and interior on the 23rd. That way if it rained on the 20th, we'd have the 23rd for pickups. This meant we had to be prepared to do both interior and exterior on the 20th and would just go with the flow which was nerve wracking to prepare for. In the end, we could only get the car on the 23rd so the exterior had to be pushed to then which was not ideal as rain was still forecasted.

I was also worried about the inconsistency of the sunny interior shots with the HMI vs the dull overcast exterior. Me and Lewis talked about potentially lighting the exteriors with it.

There was a lot of factors to consider and me, Sophie, Mara and Esther called the night before to go over anything we needed to and de-stress a bit which was nice.

It was time to shoot!

I say listen to the albums in order but omg I can def give you some reccs! For albums? Too hot in the shade or one of my absolute favorites crazy nights!

But here are some amazing kiss songs! (Don’t skip carnival of souls!)

- War machine - This one is so mwah! ✨ Gene’s vocals are mesmerizing and heavy! This song songs like… a war machine!

- Charisma - Amazing. If you’re a fan of darker songs this one will fit in your taste like a glove…

- It never goes away- DARKER SONGS? Oh shizz! If you’re an EVEN bigger fan of darker DARKER songs, this one will do the job perfect.

With Paul’s haunting vocals and the riff best described as miserable, this song is a win for sure! Don’t even get me started on the lyrics 🥺

-Childhood’s end- This song is powerful af and doesn’t get recommended enough. The end includes a sweet ref to…

-God of thunder- This is THE demon song. Dark enough but the corny lyrics will hopefully get easier to bear. Instant classic. Love it sm

-Burn bitch burn- Want something quick, hitting the border of pop but a little sweet?… don’t mind the corny lyrics and you’ve got a hidden bop!

-thief in the night- The tables are turning tonight! This song has more than the edge! Gene’s gentle vocals contrasted by heavy guitars and thudding drums is an experience!

-Hide your heart- This song tells a story! Even though it wasn’t written by kiss, Paul Stanley takes it and tells us the roller coaster of a story like he had seen it all.

-Dr. Love- Instant classic. Recommend it all the way!

-2000 man- Ace Frehley takes this song and makes you feel like you’re in a 90s comedy movie driving home after some big fight and you’re going to apologize and also you’re the screw up mc

-Creatures of the night- heavy. Main character energy. Give it a listen.

-Tears are falling- Poppy, catchy, a sweet listen. It’s one hell of a song! 4 minutes long but goes by in a flash!… then you may or may not wanna replay it.

-secretly cruel- DO THE DEMO. The quality may be shit but god is it powerful and raw.

-Little Caesar- want some mean Eric Carr vocals packed with sass? This song is your way to go!~

-Love’s a deadly weapon- Fast, aggressive, hard n heavy and as a punk lover I approve of this song.

-See you tonite- your head must be spinning from all these fast songs! Here’s a pretty ballad to slow it down 🥺 (my head is spinning all the time. If you make it stop let me know how.)

-fight hell to hold you- Paul’s powerful vocals really make it feel like he’s singing to you. Poppy, glitzy and glamorous!

-Shock me- INSTANT CLASSIC!! While you’re at it, pop on I’m in need of love and Rip it out for Ace’s signature guitar!

-Black diamond- this song has all the power and a story to it! Great listen!

-Firehouse- this song is great and catchy but it pops up in my nightmares

Pop on Deuce, She and cold gin too! But if you wanna feel like a femme fatale, go straight with strutter. The song is also haunting in a way! But that’s just my opinion tho haha!

-Psycho circus- if you can avoid the music video the song is nothing short of fantastic. It’s edgy and really gives you a kick!

(The music video was actually my first getting into Kiss! I laughed my fucking ass off then wondered whether or not these guys were okay)

-Jungle- for a great bass line. Master and the slave for some darker but relatable lyrics.
