Me: Only if you believe in that stuff, which I don't.

Mom: And what if hell is real, and you get sent there for blasphemy?

Me: Well, at least I'll have a great soundtrack.

one of my absolute favourite tiny details is cousland’s nan insisting the warden start the telling of a childhood story, and instead of, i don’t know, “once upon a time”, cousland’s cultural go-to is before our fathers’ fathers came down from the moutains. cousland has chantry tutors but at their nanny’s knee it was alamarri folk tales, not andraste and the wyvern. i think that’s so interesting and it’s one of the jumping-off points for my take that highever let andrastianism colour its culture and traditions more so than change them, in contrast to a centre of pilgrimage and of royalty like denerim, which is more closely interlinked with, and perceived by, andrastians outside ferelden’s borders. cousland to me is always saying some slightly off brand stuff they don’t realise is weird (read: heresy) while alistair and wynne raise eyebrows at each other

Ok, so Crest’s new video on the internal data names for Dark Souls 2 is out and wow. This game. Wtf.

First off, this name makes perfect sense for Shanalotte, aka the “I’m part dragon because of experiments” girl that is somehow the game’s firekeeper but also…not? She’s really interesting to me when in comparison to the other Souls bonfire maidens, and there’s this odd bit of story separation with her. She seems really independent of us in little ways, and maybe her motives with wanting us to link the fire are tied strictly to her own personal beliefs, not just because it’s her duty. Also, it seems like her name could be more accurately translated to “Dragon Priestess” which is…even more fascinating. Her mystery will never not engage me.

Pate is Patches. Dark Souls 2 always had Patches and we all knew it. Even if he doesn’t have the same VA, we just know the archetype is there. Even his “mild-mannered” and silver-tongued persuasion is accurate to the general character. Personally, I think it’s pretty funny that they still found a way to insert the conniving bastard into this game.

He’s apparently just Ornstein….which is obvious, but admittedly it’s confusing as hell. In my eyes, this is Ornstein mid-journey and on his way to find NK. We get to fight him in-game for fun, but in the “time is convoluted” world of Dark Souls, that never actually happened. Ornstein went on his way just fine. Alternative interpretations are always welcome though.

SEA SOLAIRE!! LUCATIEL IS THE SOLAIRE OF DS2 AND WE ALL KNEW IT!! This honestly makes me emotional, because she really did get us all in the feels the way Solaire did, and the theme of slow decay/hollowing and the desperation to stop it is so poignant for both characters. They’re uniquely written too, which I appreciate because even though it’s the same archetype, Lucatiel and Solaire both stand out as individuals as well. My beautiful and sad blorbos </3

Ok, so Creighton and Benhart are/were apparently father and son…which is kinda cool? It’s too bad the final game didn’t cement any connection besides their crest sigils, but I’d still accept it as canon, personally.

Lucatiel’s older brother! This is the first time I’ve seen him unmasked and it’s kinda sad. He was just a normal lad.

(In all seriousness, I wonder what the actual connection here was? It’s fascinating).

And finally, to absolutely nobody’s surprise! I hate this so much lmaoooo. I also can’t get it out of my head now that Dark Souls 2 is full of random Star Wars references and that’s what gives it such a unique and alien vibe compared to the other games 💀 (I mean, even the Desert Sorceresses look a bit like Leia’s slave getup in Return of the Jedi skdjdksks).

Anyway, this was bizarre and as usual, I can see the verge, or the vague image of how complex DS2 was originally meant to be. There’s just so much going on here, but it doesn’t seem like they put the time into really finishing it. I still love this game, flaws and all, but I do wish they would have…actually finished it.

Why do we all collectively never talk about Vega in depth (Imp! or not). Like he's so understanding and patient for no reason. He's genuinely so caring as well even if it's just for specific people

Examples

"I want to see you. Not that name badge you wear. Not that facade you drape yourself in." - getting closer to a sadistic demon

"As if I'd join up in their ranks after their treatment of you, and all the other demon department officers" - under a sadistic demons care

"is that department of yours hellbent on stripping you of everything that makes you a demon? How much else of yourself have you had to abandon to fit in with them? Well, thank you for sharing this true part of yourself with me" - under a sadistic demons care

Let's also talk about how sad he is as a character in general, or at least the potential he has to be a sad character

"You remain the only person in that god forsaken containment facility that expressed anything toward me other than resentment, fear, or disgust." - under a sadistic demons care

Notice how he called Warden a person.

I feel like it's been recognized how incubi (Gavin specifically) are used to not experiencing actual love because they are seen for what they feed off of and nothing else, but Vega is mentioned to be in the exact same situation and barely anyone talks about it.

He mentions multiple times how he's shocked when someone isn't afraid of him or immediately hates him. I feel like it's glossed over because he doesn't seem too upset by it, but if you really pay attention he definitely is. Both of his listeners in the normal universe and in the imperium have one thing in common, and that is that they were both generally unafraid of Vega, and did not hate him right off the bat which seems to be important to Vega and the reason why he liked them in the first place.

ALSO notice how in the imperium and I'm the normal universe Vega gives his listeners an excuse for being with him that both involve blaming him for everything? Even though he (presumably) dislikes being hated by everyone he has no problems with his listeners making him out to be the bad guy in a situation. I don't care what you think about Vega or his relationship with warden, that is caring for someone at its finest.

"I am born of cruelty but that isn't all I am" - this line may have been from the imperium but I think it suits both versions of him so well

‼️ Disclaimer: I am not defending his prior actions but I am begging people to stop characterizing him as just some evil villain when he has so much more depth to him.

His blond hair is so pale it almost looks white. A few strands touch his forehead, others his high cheekbones. Unearthly beautiful and clad in a charcoal-gray suit and a pristine white shirt with two opened buttons. But that’s not the relevant part. His obsidian eyes lock with mine, and I can’t move. The raw power that oozes from him is unmistakably dark and twisted. Like falling from a cliff with no bottom, like having spiders climbing up my legs. Look at that, I am a magnet for hot guys. “Go on, spit it out. Am I the key to humanity’s salvation? Do I have to stop the Apocalypse? Because, if that’s the case, we are all royally fucked,” I say. ©Demon Warden, Selene Kallan.

“So, what’s your name?” I ask. He turns to look at me. “What?” The same brusqueness of that first night has filtered back into his voice. “Your name, you must have one.” “You already know it,” he says, amethyst eyes narrowing suspiciously. I frown. “If you’re talking about that night, I must remind you I was drunk as Hell and have no idea what I said in that language.” His gaze sharpens with disbelief, and I have to break away from that stare. It’s like being naked. “So, name?” I ask, trying to hide the discomfort. He remains stubbornly quiet. “Unless you want me to call you Your Highness?” I risk a glance. His face is devoid of emotion. “Your majesty? Prince of Darkness?” still nothing. “Royal Pain?” A perfect black brow rises. “Prince of Darkness is taken, I’m afraid. “Put your hands on her again,” Nox warns Aaron, voice arctic, sending a shiver down my spine, “and I will send you to your Maker.” ©Demon Warden, Selene Kallan.

“Shouldn’t you be sleeping in a coffin or something?” I grumble. He rolls his eyes. “I am a demon, not a vampire, and that is nothing more than a ridiculous human myth.” “Too bad. I’m sure a vampire would be nicer than you, Royal Iciness.” “I’ve heard that one before, too.” I snort. “Of that, I have no doubt.” ©Demon Warden, Selene Kallan.

Dinah sighs and her lips brush my neck. A jolt of awareness crawls down my spine. I blink and look down at her, catching sight of her wild curls and slightly flushed face. “Chicken soup,” she murmurs in her sleep. Bryce laughs. “Do I smell a new nickname?” I narrow my eyes at him. “Only if you wish to spend a little vacation in Hell.” His eyes sparkle with mischievousness. He points at the plate. “You have five minutes to eat.” I blink, not quite believing he’s just made breakfast for me. “You have a special relationship with five, don’t you?” I quip, but sit on the stool and load a forkful into my mouth. Nox says nothing, opting to go to the fridge and pour some orange juice for me. The eggs are perfect, fluffy, and warm. “Thanks,” I grumble. “Three minutes,” he says. “There’s something wrong with your internal clock, or should I say infernal clock?” I say with my mouth half full. i don’t want her to be this cliche villainous that causes conflict between sam and darlin

alexis has been avoiding sam for 15+ years after she turned him. she doesn’t want conflict with him it seems

i lowkey hope that alexis has a small ‘talk’ with darlin. maybe just asking if sam is happy or smth like that. i just don’t want her to be a two dimensional villain when erik has clearly shown he likes to deal with his characters in shades ya know (example:vega)
