Brock actually manages to stay relatively normal during his time with Ash...only for Things To Happen during his time with Professor Ivy. All he ever says about it is that he had a complicated relationship with doors for the past six months.
Misty: But...we were only gone two months.
Brock: *eye presumably twitches* A very complicated relationship with doors.
And now he can kinda-sorta-there's-extra-door-related-steps-involved teleport. Misty is very jealous that she's now the only member of the OG Trio without weird eldritch powers.
Unrelated to that, living around Ash for ten years did have some effects on Palette Town's populace, with Professor Oak in particular doing some research into the occult and studying willingly donated samples of Ash's Void Stuff, and...well, long story short the AIs in the Pokedexes he hands out are actually bound demons who were interested in Pokemon research and vetted for how safe they'd be with kids. The reason Ash's Pokedex goes by Dexter is both because he likes puns and because the sound of his real name would flash-fry the intestines of every mortal in hearing range.

[Image Description: A person resembling the Pokemon Rotom, specifically the Mow Rotom form, in a pose suggesting they are about to fight. They have tan skin, orange hair in a ponytail, and green eyes. They are wearing a black tank top with orange accents, orange pants with large orange pockets outlined in black, and one long green fingerless glove on their right (viewer's left) arm. They are grinning confidently as they look off toward an unseen opponent. The background is a swirling gradient of yellow and green. End ID.]

I often sadly forget that the "battle AU" forms of my Rotomdex siblings exist, so here's Dexter in mow form :D

Wondering when the Pokemon company will produce a Pokedex Almanac type app that uses voice recognition software in combination with a aichat program.
User: Hey Dexter, how big is Wailord, and where can you find them?
Dexter: Wailord is known to weigh around 877 pounds. They are usually found along the coast in open waters in the following regions, Hoenn, Unova, Kaolas, Alola and Galar.
Like...I'm 90% this can be done....with free opensource projects even! It might seem redundant when you can just google things, but still, it'd be so cool to be able to ask Dexter if Charizard can learn meteor smash, or what is a Wacan berry, or what kind of mushroom pokemon are there? And have it contained in an offline app, or even a physical pokedex!
ChatGPT and similar models seem to mostly trying to attempt to assimilate all knowledge possible, but what if you focused in the input pool to information regarding a specifc ip and extended franchise? Or a specific field/industry? A pokemon based bot that knows everything about the various games, the anime, etc? Or a Star Wars bot with all the compiled lore from all the various media sources? A chemistry bot that can teach you equations or explain why your equation was wrong. A medical bot that can reccomend treatments for minor ailments or reccomend the correct doctor for your issue? Idk I just think aichat programs based on specialized knowledge indexes are something people currently overlook for the "cooler" basically future google interfaces and automated low level work chatbots. But wouldn't it be easier to train on a limited dataset in one field instead of having to deal with wrong information in 1000s of fields?
I guess the biggest issue for Game Freak is they probably don't have all that information compiled neatly. Bulbapedia, serebii, etc are all fan run websites, that might not appreciate being scraped by a company hired by Game Freak to do so, unless maybe if it was a community project instead that asked for permission I guess? 🤷‍♀️

Service Pokemon Headcanons
Recent asks got me thinking about service pokemon so I thought it would be fun to write down some ideas about how I think the system works overall
Similar to real life, in order for a pokemon to be considered a service pokemon it has to be trained and certified by the region the trainer lives in. The pokemon has to wear some kind of identification, usually in the form of a vest, and the trainer needs to keep a copy of the certification on hand in case the pokemon causes trouble or disrupts those around it. However, these can and typically are digital and any Rotom phone, poketch, pokedex, etc is equipped to pull it up at the press of a button
Pokemon are classified into categories based on size: A, B, C, and D. A is any pokemon that can be safely tucked under the arm or carried in a purse / bag, B is any pokemon that can fit in the lap of an average adult, C is anything the size of or smaller than a human, and D is everything larger than that. These classifications are mostly relevant for indoor venues and accommodations: you're unlikely to have a problem with a Class A-C pokemon, but Class D pokemon are pretty unlikely to be able to fit in doors or shopping aisles and have some trouble outside of their balls. There's been a lot of controversy in the pokemon world about whether service pokemon the size of people should be charged as an extra passenger, especially since they need their own seat (the answer, btw, as a resounding "no")
Generally speaking, the types preferred for service pokemon are normal, fighting, fairy, psychic, and electric. Normal types are good all rounders, fighting types are excellent for mobility assistance, electric types shine for those with service devices, psychic types can predict accidents and have the intelligence and dexterity for complicated tasks, and fairy types are great at emotional support. Other types CAN be service pokemon, but for practicality reasons they're not as common. The inherent talents of the species is also relevant
You can get your own pokemon trained as a service pokemon, and those who become disabled later in life will often do this because of their existing bond with their partner. Thus, there are plenty of unorthodox service pokemon out there

[ pokemon irl / rotomblr blog, blanket unreality warning ]
I do suppose I should make an introduction.
My name is Dexter, but people mostly call me Dex. Get it? Like pokedex.
He/him. 18. Currently trying to become the Sinnoh champion.

Team
Quilava— Jasper [LV46]
PorygonZ— Glitch [LV40]
Jolteon— Ozzie [LV38]
Scizor— Kaden [LV42]
Togekiss— Toothpaste [LV44]
You can ask me anything you want, ask me about battle tips and whatnot. Don't go near me if you're one of those team galactic losers. Don't talk to me if you're an evil team at all.
Thanks for checking me out.
// OOC
asks:
- pelliper mail, magic anons, etc. are all off for now
- feel free to pester dex all you want lol, he might be blunt or kind of rude though
- don't send any asks with romantic or sexual implications, it makes me very uncomfortable
tagging guide:
#ic vent— in character vent post
#[name] the [pokemon]— one of dex's pokemon
#tw [thing] — trigger warnings, ask if you need anything tagged
other character info:
- dex was indoctrinated into team plasma when he was younger (around 13,) and holds a huge grudge against all evil teams. he will definitely hate your character if they're evil in some way, he likes picking fights and arguing with them. he's otherwise pretty chill
- dex used to live in unova, but has since moved to sinnoh after leaving team plasma. he's only been back a few times to visit his family (he has a biological sister, @nells-universe who he visits sometimes but she really doesn't like him. oooh drama. PLEASE ask them about each other it's so evil /POS)
(likes and follows come from @/peridotporygon)

Au where the Omnitrix talked like the pokedex, the first season version/Dexter, sarcasm and all. Like, Ben scans aliens and Omnitrix gives him data and lets him access the alien or will catalog it (sending it to Azmuth for further data) but still allow Ben to become the alien. It will scan an alien and then suggest what Ben becomes, but will get snippy if Ben becomes something it doesn't want and will sometimes time out quickly, hard slam or not.
It also will talk to Ben and everyone else. When not in scan mode, it can hold a conversation as long as you say it's name before you say something to it.
Omnitrix takes no prisoners. It is a menace, to Ben, Gwen, even Max and ESPECIALLY it's own creator Azmuth (it not inly bites the hand that feeds, it shreds it like a paper shredder). When it's put back on, after that 5 year gap, Natalie is it's main target - it adores Sandra tho.
It does say it registers damaged dna in it's vicinity, in relation to Carl and Frank, but no one ever asks it is it can locate the source.
Albedo's Omnitrix doesn't talk, and even after Ben blows it up and grabs Albedo's, it transferred it's "brain" to the other one due to "sharing wifi". It has a bone and a half to pick with Albedo. Like, it really doesn't like him, Azmuth or Natalie.

Ok but why are some of the songs from Pokémon Live actually bangers. It Will All Be Mine is actually such a good song.
And it is in the same musical as Dexter the Pokedex being a human dancer, and also the same production that had MechaMew2

Dextreepom reveal
They are finally here. Sadly I can't do the darling justice with color pencil skills. I still love them to pieces And when I eventually have the equipment I'll make a whole Pokedex entry for them.
This design makes me so happy. However the fact that there were so many ideas for evolutions and region variants really makes me sad that game freak won't touch the Aipom line.

Sea Mauville exuded a feeling of wrongness, just by the way it sat on the horizon.
She didn't know it as well as the original Mauville, and as she landed on-shore, there was a ranger waiting.
"So this is Sea Mauville..."
"-- Yes, it is, miss," The Ranger said, carefully, looking at the Absol, then back to Kerry. "I'm sorry, but do you have a permit to be here? This is a nature preserve."
"-- Oh. I'm here as part of the Hoenn Perpetual Biological Survey."
"... Ah. Let me see your Pokedex, then, please."
Kerry nodded and brought it out, miming speaking the words as it spoke. "Hello. My name is Dexter the Third, currently registered to Kerry Natar, working for the Hoenn Perpetual Biological Survey. I am a biological survey and location registration device, as well as a zoological index for the purposes of education and interest. If lost or stolen, I cannot be replaced."
"Dexter, capture record?" The Ranger said.
The Pokedex changed screens. Kerry continued to mime the robotic voice, tilting her head as needed to get across the changes in tone. "This is the count of unique Pokemon that Kerry Natar has seen and captured for purposes of maintaining and changing biological location records, as well as Pokemon training."
"... 34, huh? ... And you haven't even gone up 119? Okay, maybe you're good at this. Dexter, please start Preserve Mode."
"-- Restarting."
"Eh?"
"Rules are a little different on a full nature preserve. There's only a certain number of people allowed per year, and they can only do actions that are limited to this direct area. You, personally, are allowed one Pokemon to train from the local wildlife, and cannot currently fish or harvest from plants growing here. Any others should be returned to the preserve after being marked by the Survey."
"-- You're still determining what ecosystem is emerging, then?"
"We have some good ideas, but we're not sure where human intervention is best, yes."
"... Hm. I'll keep that in mind."
"There's plenty to do besides that, mind, so take your time."
"Hello. I am Dexter the Third. This Pokedex is currently recording the ecological impacts of its trainer. To leave Preserve Mode..."
"All right, you're all set."
Kerry grimaced. She didn't know the Pokedex had that function, and now she resented it.

Eldritch Ash AU: How do the spookier episodes of Kanto (Maiden's Peak, Pokémon Tower, Sabrina) go in this AU?
Not sure what to do with Maiden's Peak besides the obvious of having Jessie also get hypnotized Because Bisexuality.
Sabrina goes very differently since Ash's Whole Deal makes him just Dark-Type enough to no-sell Psychic powers and powerful enough to fight her head-on if she tries the doll thing, and he'll have Ghost Charmander by then and most of his Pokemon will probably have Dark and Ghost type moves since he can teach them directly so he'd have a good shot at winning the actual Gym Battle, so he probably wins and deals with her Crazy first try.
(also Dexter's combination of Demon Powers and Pokedex Features mean he can actually Summon any of Ash's Pokemon and then Dismiss them back to where they were as long as they're still registered to their Pokeball, including the released ones like Butterfree, so Butterfree's technically available but since this is right after he left it's too early to call him back for this particular battle so unfortunately no slightly psychic Bug-Type to stack the odds even more in Ash's favor)
Because of that they go to the Pokemon Tower just to visit instead of to get a Ghost Type, and dropping a chandelier on this version of Ash wouldn't really do anything so instead of the "turning into ghosts" plot it deals with the dead Marowak plotline from the games. It uses standard Rocket Grunts instead of the Trio because those three would Not Do That, Ash's healing powers turn out to have limits because he can't bring back Marowak since her body's gone, and Brock ends up catching Cubone.

Tsareena: Its long, striking legs aren’t just for show but to be used to kick with skill. In victory, it shows off by kicking the defeated, laughing boisterously. (Sun pokedex)
"With your dexterous build and affinity for kicking I believe this calm-natured girl would make quite the battle partner, being able to keep in stride with her stamina and similar fighting style."

Hello Professor! I was wondering if you ever use Pokedex entries found in the Pokemon TCG?
I would love to, if only the card information was easier to find! Unfortunately, in my searches, I have to do some deep digging in order to find any information that's written on the cards, and even then, they tend to repeat what's in the PokéDex...
