New Coloring Book Published & New Designs!

Hello, friends!

I have some pretty exciting updates to share! A lot has been going on, and if you haven't noticed, I even got around to updating the design of the blog. It feels much more "me" and I love it! Beyond the new look of the website, I have a lot of news to share. I like lists to keep my thoughts straight, so here's what's been going on in list form:

I re-launched my coloring book club, The Color Club! by Mixed Mayhem Studios. There are free coloring book pages I made myself in the group, but you don't have to color my work to join. If you like adult coloring books, this is a group for you! Learn more here.

Perhaps even more exciting than picking my coloring club project back up is that I published my very first coloring book! Inner child me is positively doing cartwheels of excitement over this! You can pick up a copy at Amazon (affiliate link). Copies should start arriving this Friday!

In addition to re-designing the blog, I've fleshed out some of the pages a bit more, to include a list of favorite art supplies I use in my own creative practice!

I've launched new surface pattern designs on Society6 and Redbubble respectively. Some of the designs are also venturing over onto my own Shopify store.

Why so many stores? Well, Society6 and RedBubble each have options that the other does not have (many of which I want to purchase for myself, lol), and my Shopify store allows me an even higher level of customization and even further product options than either Society6 or Redbubble. Either way, I am having a great time tinkering! I have made more art and interesting designs in the last few weeks than I have in years. My designs feature bright colors and complex, ornate patterns. I'll be honest, as I've already mentioned, a lot of what I've made is because I want to order a fair amount of it for myself. What can I say, I'm still a kid at heart and love wearing bright rainbow-y things. I'm that adult at the store that walks past the kid stuff and pouts because the rainbows and cute things aren't made in my size. 

New patterns are also on the way and being launched exclusively for Valentine's Day! Get a sneak peek here to check out the first design in the collection. Let me know what you think in the comments!

We've got another artist spotlight for a creator that will be presenting at our D&D Mini Con on March 8th! Jamie, of @colorspraycreations , will be walking us through her process as well as bringing some gorgeous dice examples and potential raffle prizes with her 😮 ALSO, she has a new dice drop happening in her store TOMORROW, February 25th, at noon! We have one set of dice created by her and oh my glob, they were named after Adventure Time's Lumpy Space Princess and they are VERY purple and VERY pretty. We can't wait for her presentation!

Not sure if people are still doing this; but these are my greatest hits of 2022! I’ve got a good feeling about 2023. 2022 has been cool and I grew a lot and challenged myself… but 2023 is when I’m gonna finish my @fantagraphics book and I’m so excited about that! My most proud moment of 2022 has to be putting on my own art show out of my San Diego Gaslamp apartment. It was so out of character for me to do something like that (almost) single-handedly, and it made me realize that I’m very capable of getting stuff done! I’ve always had low expectations of myself socially and putting on that show taught me those expectations were wrong. It was so much work, but I can’t wait to do it again! Houston, dear Houston! I regret to inform you that I won’t be able to bring you my new work this spring due to coronavirus threat. I hope the situation in the U.S. and in the world will teach all of us good lessons. One thing is sure: it won’t be the same world anymore.

Please, if you can, support independent artists by purchasing their work online, sharing on social media platforms, joining their small communities by subscribing for example to Patreon or simply showing your love by following their work.

Very often, we are not supported financially by the government, and don’t have weekly or monthly paychecks. All our income comes from such cultural events like arts festivals that recently started being postponed, cancelled or rescheduled.

And of course, don’t forget to boost your immunity, support your health, and wash your hands!

Insomnia has arrived.. (again). 10 days and going strong. I fall asleep just fine, but wake up 3-4 hours later. It’s exhausting yet inspiring, sort of like a drug of its own, to be used to its own advantage 🎨 🎵. The last time I had severe insomnia like this was when I was traveling internationally a ton (triggered by jet lag). There’s always a trigger. I bet this pandemic is a trigger for a lot of things in a lot of people 😞. I feel lucky, though; I have wine and a book and peace (finally.. thanks to moving into a new place). Other than wine I won’t medicate. Pills are a whole other rabbit hole. I feel that once we tap into the potential and variety and flavors of our own mind that we can get to those “high” places without throwing our mental stability completely off course... kind of like a compartmentalized high. Being on lockdown can be a compartmentalized high (pun intended) and can be quite productive if you let it. Turning inward is scary. It requires facing demons and regrets but also forgiving oneself and recognizing how special each of us is with our own unique talents. Maybe it’s okay to get acquainted (reacquainted?) with our own mortality for a change. I realize my views on the pandemic may not be the most popular (yet), but I think during this time of self-reflection we need to reassess what we stand for, what we want, and which freedoms we are willing to lose in our lifetime to fear. In my 39 years of experience 😉 😉 I’ve found that what we fear most we inadvertently and inevitably cause to happen. Fear is not good for the immune system. Fear is not good for society. Fear is not good for political policy.
