Fanfiction is so goated actually
No monetary incentive, just writing in one's free time. Some incentive for like kudos and comments, because who doesn't want to hear that someone else enjoyed what they wrote. Just writing a story that is good and/or enjoyable, no real-life pressure to keep it going because god forbid you and other people are depending on it financially.
Writing a story because you want to write a good story, so you can write what they want the way you want, at a pace that is realistic for you, with exactly the plot pacing you want there to be.

Sometimes I randomly wonder what some actors think when they find fanfiction featuring their character. Not in the ‘oh nawr it’s PORWN!!?!’ Kind of way, but more in the: ‘huh, so that’s what people got from my acting?’ Or ‘Oh, that’s a different place that story line could have gone.’ Or ‘wait why didn’t we explore this in the show?’ Or ‘He Wouldn’t Fucking Say That.’

So it turns out there's a big craft guild organization thing only a few hours from where I live (I saw an ad for their craft fair), and I got like half my holiday shopping done on their website, and the box arrived today! The thing I was most excited to see in person is fragile, though, and it's really well wrapped in bubble wrap and I don't want it to break when I mail it to the friend it's for, so I am not unwrapping it, but oh man the temptation is there lol
I also got myself a little metal bug made of a bottle cap and some wire. It lives on my little corkboard where I put postcards and thank you cards now
