#and like that close up shot of some rifle one of them was using #with the logo clearly visible #??okay #the season on the whole is weird disjointed and messy #i see they went with the principle of keep adding characters until the plot explodes #i find it so hard to care about any of them because we just don't spend enough time with these people #doing this plus quickly killing off a lot of s1 characters #did not work out great for them #speaking of killing off #hyunsu died for three episodes then came back like the most anticlimactic one winged jesus #how did he survive? fuck you that's how #it all feels like a first draft which had some possibly good ideas thrown in and then they just didn't bother editing it down #at all #we don't know half these characters they don't do shit #also hate what they've done with the monsters #in the webtoon and in the first seasons they weren't good or bad just unrestrained manifestation of the hosts innermost desires #now they're generic mindless baddies who chase after cars as a mob and get drawn to places with loud sounds zombie style #have not had one compelling or interesting monster introduced in the whole season of a show about monsters #(monster baby is fun but not particularly interesting)#ahh anyway i can keep talking about how they change the rules when it's convenient for the plot to develop #(now monsters can be stabbed to death apparently)#but i didn't really expect much from this season to begin with it's my sick and dying with the flu watch and it doesn't have to be good #one episode to go yaaay #i hope the goo man comes back just to be annoying to hyunsu again

I know the decision to have Julian's parents have him augmented was made on the fly but imo its pretty obvious from early on that Julian has Family Issues because he avoids talking about his family like the plague and I think they should've incorporated this into the Julian and Sisko dynamic right from early on because I think it would've made for some really compelling stories and moments and could've set up a REALLY interesting Julian and Jake dynamic which they kinda started to do but never fully went for

#star trek: ds9 #julian bashir #benjamin sisko #jake sisko #s1 Julian being so young and eager to prove himself and latching onto Sisko as this mentor figure to look up to #seeing Sisko with Jake and low-key seeking that fatherly figure connection which he won't even let himself think about #Sisko seeing this young brilliant doctor who's got all the makings to be something great and he's just GOTTA help him along #I think he would also catch on pretty quick that Julian's got Parental Issues #he tries to ask one day all casual like 'tell me about yourself :)' and Julian talks about nothing but Starfleet and med school #any attempts to ask about his family are met with awkward brief answers and redirections #and then theres the way Julian's eyes light up the first time Sisko invites him to watch a baseball game #like he Knows. he's a dad he Knows somethings up #but he doesnt pry #I also think it makes their dynamic more tragic towards the end of the series #where we have Sisko asking Julian to compromise his morals again and again #Julian's trust and respect for him gradually deteriorating #and then at the end of course Sisko is gone and they have no idea when he'll be back #which I think Julian would have a lot of complicated feelings about #but of course theres also Jake #I imagine they'd get closer #very brotherly dynamic #you know that scene in TNG where Wesley goes to Riker for girl advice and Riker and Guinan start flirting?#absolutely happens but with Jake asking Julian for girl advice and Julian wooing a girl at Quark's and Jake absolutely loses the plot #makes the events of ...Nor the Battle to the Strong more intense as well I think #also I like to think there'd be an episode where the B plot is Jake gets mad at Sisko and impulsively decides to move out #ends up at Julian's because he did not think this through #Julian is now very much caught in the middle of this family drama and he Fucking Hates It #also him and Jake are NOT compatible roommates but he's trying so so hard to be nice #eventually they have a talk and Julian cryptically hints at his own home life and tells Jake he's lucky he has a dad who cares so much #them being closer would work into what Alone Together sets up for them

Fanfiction is so goated actually

No monetary incentive, just writing in one's free time. Some incentive for like kudos and comments, because who doesn't want to hear that someone else enjoyed what they wrote. Just writing a story that is good and/or enjoyable, no real-life pressure to keep it going because god forbid you and other people are depending on it financially.

Writing a story because you want to write a good story, so you can write what they want the way you want, at a pace that is realistic for you, with exactly the plot pacing you want there to be.

#c*rny posts #thinking about this after the my h*ro academia leaks lmao #i have read barely a few chapters of the manga and then kept up with it through tumblr osmosis #i was interested in how its gonna end #and after reading the leaks i was like 'well its up to the fanfic writers to write a good ending now'#cause. it was kind of underwhelming. like some stuff made sense and some things were just done badly #which is realistic considering h*rikoshi is apparently burned out to hell #and i was thinking. man. if i had to write AND illustrate a story for like ten years straight. because its my bread and butter #and there are other people depending on the story doing well to make money #it would 100% get to me. i would rather end it all lmao #which is why i think fanfic is so great #just writing a story that you want. that makes sense to you. that has elements you want. that is exactly as long as you want.#and there isnt even a possibility of really monetizing it so there is no drive to make is 'succeed' or make it as long as possible #this could be applied to just writing a 'regular' story also that is not intended for publishing #also kinda makes me think about h*ikyuu #i kinda do feel the timeskip and the ending were a bit rushed #but like. if it was me. i would have rushed it too lmao #after so many years of working on one thing and one thing only i would have been so done. just so done #and h*ikyuu ending to me wasnt even bad. it was good with good resolution of everything. with characters evolving and achieving their dreams #not necessarily volleyball related (like tenma)#the progress made realistic sense #but it did feel a bit rushed #anyway #fanfic and writing for yourself is great #and manga authors face way too much pressure from people dependent on them. from fans. even from society in general

So it turns out there's a big craft guild organization thing only a few hours from where I live (I saw an ad for their craft fair), and I got like half my holiday shopping done on their website, and the box arrived today! The thing I was most excited to see in person is fragile, though, and it's really well wrapped in bubble wrap and I don't want it to break when I mail it to the friend it's for, so I am not unwrapping it, but oh man the temptation is there lol I also got myself a little metal bug made of a bottle cap and some wire. It lives on my little corkboard where I put postcards and thank you cards now

#the person behind the yarn #I have gotten a little sewing done today during my lunch break #but not much! not much #these unprecedented times sure are not good for my stress levels lol #but the indoor wasp is outdoor wasp again #and I managed to successfully request prescription refills from two of my doctors this week #(for different medications) so that was good! I'm allergic to an inactive ingredient used by most pharmacies in one med #so I have to get just that one medication from a different pharmacy chain and it throws doctors for a loop every time #other good things: I had the answers ready for a question my boss unexpectedly asked during a meeting today #when my dad last went shopping he got more kleenex and the boxes have flamingoes on them so that's cool!#uhhh my dad is volunteering more which means I get to help out more with some prep things for volunteering #which is great I miss volunteering but I can't do what I used to anymore #for the record I did make this post almost entirely to convince myself not to unwrap the super cool thing for my friend #the other small percentage is because I really like the metal bug #I want to make some metal bugs #I don't think I have any of whatever the artist used for filling the bottle cap but I have hot glue that'll probably work #...I think I'm going to make some metal bugs

#hadestown #art #my art #tag ramble as promised:#firstly #i’ve been thinking about redoing this as digital art #(like - mostly the same but cleaner and with some of the details fixed) and probably will if i have time #because i like this composition a lot #but! for now i am oddly happy with how this turned out despite being traditional art/watercolor (no undo button. sobs.)#and it Is a noteworthy day for hadestown with lola tung and lillias white departing #(this is Not meant to celebrate them specifically - i used the obc as reference not them - i just think it’s a nice day symbolically)#so i thought i’d put this out. whatever. yknow.#oh a second thing i will say is that this was a great excuse to check out the slime tutorials on youtube #i spent like 9 or something hours on this :/ so. plenty of time to have things on in the background while i was working. we love slime #thirdly! two things i feel like are worth mentioning rq for Symbolism:#wait for me reprise (intro) originally having wedding procession imagery (from anaïs mitchell in working on a song)#is what first made me desperately want to put the flower/petals on the edges (it still fucking haunts me)#though it was a solid composition choice in general i think #and i mean. clearly the carnation should be prominent. it’s the carnation. from hadestown.#i don’t think the wedding procession reference comes across the way it turned out but that was the first thought #NEXT ouroboros. the snake devouring its own tail (i legitimately forgot that this was why i first drew the rattlesnake that way but #fundamentally i really did just want its tail and head to point to each other lmao)

My interests tend to come in intense bursts and then fade. Unless something like, big happens like it gets a reboot its unlikely I'll be coming back to it anytime soon. As for the fic I don't have any current plans to finish it unfortunately.

#Its so shocking whenever anybody mentions that fic to me #like its just such a specific combo of interests how are there this many people interested in it...#I have some fragments of unfinished chapters for it laying around but I was struggling to get them to work #and I definitely dont have the motivation to finish them now #If youre curious the chapters were going to be Slaughter avatar miss Power and Web avatar Mr Big #and possibly Flesh avatar Butcher but I never got around to starting that one #The Miss Power chapter was basically going to be about her having kind of lost her thread #I wanted to leave a lot of ambiguity as to what happened with her home planet #but she hadnt been in contact with them for agessssss and her radio is damaged and her ship is in bad shape #the chapter was just going to be her being like 'pfff I dont interpersonal connection Im doing great out here. Murdering. All on my own'#Well she has her little squirl thing but she treats him like an animal #mr giggle cheeks or whatever #anyway I wanted it to imply that whatever happened her bloodthirst was destroying her #The Mr Big chapter was from Lesley's perspective #She would have been one in a long long line of assistants that Mr Big went through like candy #Lesley is his favorite though because. while she is terrified of him. shes still willing to push him. to be honest with him #but she also knows exactly when to step off. when to lie to appease him #( its always a tossup as to whether he wants a sweet lie or the harsh truth that day. He can always tell either way #its a gamble he does to be cruel. She always picks right though. or maybe he's more lenient with her than he should be)#He likes that she knows exactly how to push him without ever stepping over the line #He likes that her guilt and revulsion are slowly eating her up inside but shes too selfish to leave #She likes being special. She likes the idea of ruling the world alongside him #She'll always be second in command but shell be so much higher than everyone else #and shes willing to do anything to get that #Mr big doesnt think shell ever make it that far #but he likes her anyway #shes the one assistant he'll be sad about dying #OK damn apparently I did still have things to say about this old fic DAMN #still not gonna finish it tho. they call me the struggler becaus.e writing is a struggle...

#small dooble at 2 am :)#I think the they were roommates trope is great because living with someone beyond the sort of intimacy of sharing a space also comes with #compromises and accomodations for each other’s differences. small psychological changes such as internal clock and lighting and such #I’m glad I have roommates haha though it’s a bit lonely right now since one of them is doing summer research in Wisconsin #and the other is on vacation and went home for July 4th long weekend #a bit sad that I’m working over July 3 and 4 but I did plan it out that way for myself since there’s not anything else to do on those days #anyways I should go sleep
