Mew and Nick will team up! Book already revealed that, in yet another interview. Mew goes to Nick for "assistance." And now we can assume it's both because he'll know Nick is the source of the truth, and for use of Nick's tech and skills in his plans. Maybe even mostly just out of empathy and solidarity.

So that'll be satisfying. IMO, at least. I never saw Mew as sanctimonious at all, so I'm rooting for him. Just my feeling, to each their own.

Alas, not my hopes.

I want Mew to go down with the rest of his friends. But, eh, I accept what the show gives me.

The way Mew talks about Ray and looks at Boston... not my favorite.

I am definitely a little sad that he won't be the mastermind I want him to be. I definitely was hoping for him to be more manipulative than just the base level the show has shown us.

But whatever.

I will say, anon, that I understand that these actor interviews are public and everywhere... but I don't tend to seek out spoilers or look for them aside from the very basics and would really like to avoid them if possible.

I don't follow actors, I don't look for behind the scenes stuff until after the show is out... I know nothing other than what the show tells me and the occasionally glimpses on here. And I get why people get excited and want those!

But now I'm a bit disappointed because all of this means that the characters really are as straightforward as I knew the show would be and that the depth and twists I'm looking (me, specifically) are less likely to be there.

I wanted Mew to be a manipulative character trying to get Top because he could and because it made him feel better about himself and would 'prove' that his choices were the right ones to keep him versus Boston's method. I wanted Mew to be using Ray's feelings towards him to keep the money in their friendship group and to be able to use him for projects and such. I want Mew to be a mastermind, a virgin using his sex appeal in order to get the unobtainable. It was so good. It was something we never see!

But now it's probably just the more basic story... I mean, I still think the friendships are going to fall entirely apart because Mew does look down on his friends for casual sex and heavy drinking and hides it behind fake concern but that's just to be expected for this type of show.

I want Mew and Boston to be opposite sides of the same coin, to both be manipulators using the people around them but in very different ways. I still want that so badly. Will it happen? I dunno. But I want it.

But, obviously, everyone is going to have different views of the characters and different wishes for the show! Especially a mess like this one, where everyone is morally gray and real.

Except Boston. Who just wants that dick and will stop at nothing to get it. He is morally, orally and generally a... dick.

My objection to the "But they're a Mary Sue!" argument is this: So what? "She didn't have to work to get good at things!" So, she has some natural talent, eh? Good for her. "But she starts out good at everything!" It's called wish fulfillment; it's a valid reason to write and read stories. "But she didn't have to suffer for what she has!" What, you need to see torture porn for all main characters before they're worth anything? "It's so unrealistic!" You mean a fictional character - often in a fantastic context - is unrealistic? *le gasp!* If a Mary Sue main character sticks in your craw, guess what? They're not being written to appeal to you. That's right! You're not the target audience. It ain't about you and what you want. *Realistically,* that's how it's going to be sometimes. Best to scroll on and let other folks enjoy what they enjoy, Mary Sues and all. Because you know what's worse than any Mary Sue? A killjoy.
