Neurodiversity Celebrated: Recognizing the Brilliance of the Differently-Wired Brain
Neurodiversity is a paradigm that views neurological differences as natural variations in the human brain rather than disorders or deficits. "Embrace Neurodiversity Brain Gift" encapsulates the idea that these diverse neurological conditions are valuable gifts to be celebrated and nurtured.

This perspective challenges traditional notions of "normal" brain function, recognizing that conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and others offer unique cognitive strengths and perspectives. By embracing neurodiversity, we acknowledge that these brain differences contribute to innovation, creativity, and problem-solving in ways that benefit society as a whole.
The concept of a "brain gift" emphasizes the positive aspects of neurodivergent thinking. For instance, individuals with autism may excel in pattern recognition and attention to detail, while those with ADHD often demonstrate remarkable creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. Dyslexic minds frequently possess strong spatial reasoning and narrative skills.

Embracing neurodiversity means creating inclusive environments that accommodate various cognitive styles and support individuals in leveraging their unique strengths. This approach fosters a more diverse and dynamic society, where different ways of thinking and perceiving the world are valued and integrated.
By reframing neurological differences as gifts rather than disabilities, we open doors to new possibilities in education, employment, and social interaction. This shift in perspective promotes self-acceptance among neurodivergent individuals and encourages a more compassionate, understanding society that benefits from the full spectrum of human cognitive diversity.
Teacher gifts for men offer a thoughtful way to show appreciation for male educators who dedicate themselves to shaping young minds. These gifts can range from practical items that enhance their teaching experience to personal tokens that acknowledge their interests outside the classroom.

Popular options include personalized stationery, high-quality pens, or desk organizers to support their daily tasks. For tech-savvy teachers, consider gadgets like smart pens or portable chargers. Book lovers might appreciate literary-themed gifts or gift cards to bookstores.
Practical items such as insulated travel mugs, comfortable ties, or stylish messenger bags can be both useful and thoughtful. For a personal touch, consider hobby-related gifts like sports memorabilia, gourmet coffee, or unique desk plants.
Remember, the best gift often reflects the teacher's individual personality and interests, showing that you value them not just as an educator, but as a person.

Autism colors typically refer to the spectrum of hues associated with autism awareness and acceptance. The most recognizable is the autism awareness ribbon, featuring a puzzle piece pattern in bright, primary colors - red, yellow, and blue - on a white background. These vibrant colors symbolize the complexity and diversity of the autism spectrum.
Another significant color is gold, used to represent autism acceptance and neurodiversity. Light blue is often used for autism awareness, particularly on World Autism Awareness Day.
These colors serve to increase visibility, promote understanding, and celebrate the unique perspectives and abilities of individuals on the autism spectrum.

Divergent Thinking
"Divergent thinking is a method of problem-solving that uses an open-ended, creative, free-form approach to explore different possible solutions, rather than using a rigid, binary framework. Psychologist J.P. Guilford first used the term "divergent thinking" in the 1950s." (Source: masterclass)
Divergent Thinking is something people with a disability may have. While I'm curious to learn, I am different and I deal with difference. I use my gut and intuition to brain storm different possible solutions to the answers I need. Those answers are my blogs.
I was aware I was different
Throughout my life, although not knowing I had autism, I was aware I was different and trying to fit in is impossible. Writing from an autistic perspective, I have always had a preoccupation with words. It is why the transition into writing didn’t faze me.
I am comfortable when I write
I have said this before, but writing is the only time I feel comfortable, and in control of my thoughts and how I feel. I am finally in charge. Through my words, I know what I want to say and how I want to say it. Verbally, I fail to find the words.
I don't hold any punches
After 13 years, readers following my blog will know my writing style. I don’t hold any punches. I present the facts as they present to me. I am truthful, but universal truth and personal truth doesn’t make us popular. I'm okay with that.
Trying to negotiate the literary world is difficult
As a writer with autism, trying to negotiate the literary world is difficult. Even with a blog, it can be difficult seeking support.
Writing has saved my mental health. My blog is a place I feel comfortable in. I can finally be me.

Its been a few months now. My fears actuallized. I was in treatment for nearly 3 months in which I was told to STOP IT. My thoughts, my feeling, my experience had no place in this setting. What made it worst was thst my self advocacy fell into deaf ears. I was told I was being resistant. So I let go and did as they told me but then it felt performative. I did as they asked and while they were great at addressing behaviors the underlying issues, where my struggles intensified as there was no room to engage with my thoughts and my feels. Repression at its finest in order to just get me to function and get me "back on track and back to work faster." During this time what I learned is that I need to stand up for myself more and fight as hard as I do for others for myself. So when does a therapist know when they are ready to return? For me it is when I am able to pick up on counter transference and focus on the client. When I am able to be present and should my mind slightly wonder be able to bring myself back to who I am with and later explor that wondering thought. Or perhaps if relevant to a client be able to in that moment make the connection and share it with them. And if I am unable to this to wait. We cannot be blank slates as therapist. However, lack of self awareness and being able to provide humanistic person centered approach services can lead to creating graver barriers for clients. And not just clients loved ones and those we connect with as well. There's much that transpired in this process which I may one day share. Another thing that sucks and is painful which I continue to come across so many psychotherapist and mental health providers including psychiatrist who reinforce and normalize mental health professionals continuing to provide treatment when they aren't well because "that is how things work and everyone does it." No! We choose to reinforce this, and I for one do not believe it should be this way. I know both as a psychotherapist and as a client that there are too many risks to providing therapy when the therapist is unwell. Albeit some may not be aware of it. However, our fragility as humanity heavily rests on our perception and interpretation of what happens. When we do not have guides (i.e. psychotherapist or elders) to support us in navigating this based on where we are at and focusing on what comes up for us and where and how we want to be, in such a way that the person holding space is not providing treatment based solely on what they know but in collaboration with the client attuning to them, both the client and the guides loose their center of gravity. Thus reinforcing systems of oppression which deepen the barriers to self actualization, self love and acceptance, and in people overall living healthier versions of themselves. Everything is normal, yet if we want to see more of something that is healthier then we too need to invest time, energy and work on ourselves. When we don't, what message are we sending not just to others but also to ourselves.
So what happened after being in a program which made me feel as though they were attempting to burry my struggles?...

Module learnings
Even though before starting this course I had come already come from a design background, this module has taught me to not only continue being a creative thinker but a divergent one.
We often hear people talk about thinking outside the box to find the best solutions to design problems, however what if we instead created our own box?
I have learned throughout this Creativity in Design module, that we as designers need to open our minds to tackling different situations and how we use those situations to the best of our advantage.
I believe that being a good designer also means being a better human being, we strive to find solutions to things that we would have never imagined would or could exist. We are natural problem solvers, and this in turn helps us in our own personal lives too.
Tumblr media
Design thinking is a magical toolbox that can be used for many situations in life, and this makes us powerful. We can open ourselves to different industries, people, culture, history, nature and empathise with this in order to better design for these environments and communities.
Working with a new team brings every time new challenges, but also deepens our knowledge and acceptance of the diversity of how, we human, think. It opens our minds to go into unchartered territories and nurture a supportive work-out-loud culture.
I used to think that design was purely linear and just a means to respond to set briefs from the industry, however this module has taught me that there is so much more to design and if anything design should actually be non-linear, and there shouldn’t be this pressure to design for all because we are all very different and extremely complicated beings, have different values, needs as we all come from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries and therefore should be open to listen and open our minds to different possibilities.
Although as a designer I had learned about creative thinking, this module deepened my understanding of the creative process. Focusing on the divergent state of ideation, putting a break on finding a solution was a challenge for the team but it opened our minds to new perspectives. I learned to enjoy challenging assumptions, engage in alternative ways of thinking, asking why? Above all, it taught me how to practice design with a more human-centred approach, concentrating on the people we wanted to help, what they felt, how they thought, what their needs were before thinking about the things we should construct.
I definitely believe now that I’m more confident going into this industry, with a better perspective and knowledge which will help me to become a better designer and better person.

You grow through what you go through 💪🍄 . New research from Leiden University in the Netherlands shows that microdosing psilocybin mushrooms can improve both convergent and divergent thinking in ways that promote cognitive flexibility, creativity and single-solution problem solving. Convergent thinking is the process of figuring out a concrete solution to any problem. Divergent thinking is the process of thinking that explores multiple possible solutions in order to generate creative ideas. It’s a straightforward process that focuses on figuring out the most effective answer to a problem. Now, couldn’t this be useful to just about everyone on the planet?🤔🌎 . . . . . . #psilocybintherapy #psilocybincubensis #psilocybinmushrooms #psilocybinresearch #psilocybinmushroom #cubensismushrooms #goldenteachers #penisenvymushrooms #convergentthinking #divergentthinking #problemsolvingproducts #microdose #microdosingpsilocybin #microdosing #expandyourawareness https://www.instagram.com/p/CIRq5C-h_JP/?igshid=1rv5x5gws49cn

I don’t know about you, but sometimes my best ideas/solutions come to me when I stop looking for them. I think there is value in hobbies and diversions. They allow your mind to make new connections. Then your job is to notice that your brain has given you a new idea or solution. Your ego does not need to exert itself whatsoever. If you DON’T need new ideas and solutions, then you can live a perfectly regimented life at 100 productivity 24/7. However, if you require (or value) creativity you need to let you brain do something else everyday, every week, every month, and every year. 😉👍 #clearyourmind #divergentthinking #creativity #bubbleup (at Riverside, California)

Roo is a 3 year old steampunk. We took him to the Stithians Show and then the Cornish Steam fair last summer and he’s been obsessed with steam power ever since. He’s such a clever little inventor. We encourage divergent thinking and using loose parts play. He wanted to play with a steam car toy but didn’t have one so he asked for me to help him with an elastic band to make one. He used @lego Duplo wheels and Thomas @thomasandfriends to make his Steam car so “Thomas could go off-road.” I’m always excited to see what he will come up with next. #Roosinventions #montessoriathome #montessoriactivity #montessori #montessoriinspired #steampunk #steampunktoy #steampunkstyle #steampunktoddler #steampunkstyle #STEM #stemeducation #loosepartsplay #divergent #divergentthinking #mumblog #mummybloggeruk #thomasthetankengine #thomasthetrain #duplo #legoduplo #legoduploideas #toymashup #mashup #steamcar #choochoo https://www.instagram.com/p/CAxZHF3nAsj/?igshid=1f5xdap582rue
