honestly the mods to implement the mystic class into BG3 following the third iteration of unearthed arcana nearly beat-for-beat just make me even more annoyed that Wizards of the Coast chickened out on making it a real class of its own.
like, it works. and it's somewhere between awesome and so frickin' goofy. Half your attacks are just standing there and death glaring your foes into submission. so many fights where you barely move, but, if you take the right disciplines, you're also just insanely mobile. Soulknife isn't quite as good at stabbing as a rogue, but the ability to upgrade your soul knives with psi points is pretty sweet. And that's nothing on the mindflayer-like psionic attacks...
I would also argue that it makes a damn good choice for the Dark Urge. Whatever they were before, it was really really good with knives. They were intelligent. And now, thanks tadpole, they have psionics. Ahem. Please examine the soulknife subclass: what if knives, but they're made out of pure psionics?
(tbh I originally was looking for a soulknife-as-rogue-subclass mod, which is actually pretty sick, but the original concept is way cooler. I love being able to teleport all over and melt enemy brains.)
I'm not sure if the model the modder used for the soulknives differs if you don't try and make Dark Urge the soulknife, but I also approve of them using Orin's knife (with netherstone) for the job. Soulknives are, according to third edition lore, supposed to be crafted by the wielder's soul (hence the name) and it just adds a fun little bit of foreshadowing if your knives are your *old* knife, the one you no longer have...
The only real issue is that you mostly do just do psychic damage, though, so if you need to break down a wall for something you gotta have another party member do it.

The Campaign
Just a fun little in-between moment cause I wanted to write some DnD stuff.
The way I see it, they’ve continued their old college campaign but Maddie updated it to include some 5e rules. The boys however kept their old character sheets, so they’re a little outdated but they hold sentimental value to them.
<<First < Previous Next >
(Weirdly enough, trying to come up with names and classes for them was real difficult, cause DnD for me is very personal and I put a ALOT of care to my own characters. So giving Vlad and Jack their own characters felt like I was overstepping? Maybe it’s cause in their own world Vlad and Jack might as well be DnD character lol)

Yo, here's Grave Mystic Weva Vudol from Critical Role campaing 3, because obscure episodic characters deserve some love too. This one is from last year.💀🖤
Anyway, 400 followers on this new shiny art blog, thank you?!❤️🩹🥹 Not sure if that's enough to start posting original art yet, but we're definitely getting there. Thank you for joining me here, hopefully Tumblr will be a better platform than the dead bird site was.

Did a quick portrait for the new guy!
Yes, they got a third eye cause they are a weird aasimar creature. They are doing their best to hide it, ofc, but I doubt that will work for long haha

Yggdrassil, Shaman of the Wild Heart. A dungeons and dragon commission of a plant-forged druidic character. Their normal form, and their great beast form.

I am pretty sure that most adventuring parties accompanied by a psion have long since concluded that the psion is actually just a walking lucky charm. they never seem to actually do anything in a fight, they just glare disapprovingly at enemies, but stuff sure seems to die way faster while they're around. it only ever gets weird when the psion is forced to duel somebody in one-on-one combat and their enemy always seems to have a terribly convenient brain aneurysm about fifteen seconds into the fight.
the psion probably tried to explain it once but the only person who sorta seemed to get it was the monk and even then neither person could decide if they were both tapping into the same fundamental force of the universe or not. the wizard tried to weigh in, but since neither was using the weave, he gave up in disgust. The sorcerer, meanwhile, got some dangerous new ideas for metamagic and nearly electrocuted everyone in a three mile radius the next time the party went into combat.
