Drawing Hornet everyday until Silksong comes out - Day 200!!!
Tumblr media
(huge thanks to this person for the art suggestion!! <3)
I genuinely can’t believe that I’ve made it to 200 days, it’s truly been wild how time flies by like that and the amount of doodles I’ve made during that time. Over 200 doodles (217 to be exact if we’re counting double pictures/extra doodles) have been made over the past 200 days. :0
And thank you all so much for the love and support! Not only have we reached 200 days but also 1400+ followers about a week ago! <3
But, having said that I’d like to make a few announcements—some good, some not so great—about a few things regarding the blog, myself, and other stuff.
Putting it all under the cut so the post isn’t long if you’d like to know more
______________________________
Announcements!
My pfp!
1.) I’ll be changing my pfp again!! I’ve officially decided that after every 100 days or so I’ll change up the pfp so it’s up to date with my doodle style (assuming it changed at all lol), but generally it’ll look relatively the same as the last!
Possibly more admins?
2.) As of right now I’m looking into the idea/possibility of having a second (maybe third?) person help me with daily doodles! As much as I’d like to keep doodling everyday there are some days that it can be tough or some situation might be happening. (i.e. recently got injured)
See, the problem is I don’t exactly have a proper way of trying this out??? My idea was to maybe do this through dms or more preferably Google Forms. I also don’t really know what form of communication afterward would be best either, suggestions to help me work this out would be great! (as you can tell I’m not very good at this stuff lol)
Commissions!
3.) After much consideration and a lot of thought, I’ve decided that in the near future, I’ll be opening commissions again for the first time in years. I don’t have everything set up quite yet, but expect more info in the near future!
About requests:
4.) You may have noticed recently that I haven’t been doing as many doodle requests recently. Sure, there’s usually quite a few in a row at once but you may have noticed I’ve also been doing “non-requested” doodles aka ones that I just do on my own.
Expect this to become a very normal thing going forward. I probably won’t be doing as many requests as before because frankly with the amount of requests I get daily when it’s open is a lot to handle sometimes. Does this mean requests will be stopped entirely? No, I’ll still do some occasionally, but not as much as I have in the past.
Also I’ll likely be doing strictly anonymous requests.
About Burnout:
5.) Alright let’s address the elephant in the room.
There have been quite a few instances where people have wondered if I would ever have burnout and have occasionally joked about “dying” from said burnout because “Silksong will never release, you’ll be doing this forever” etc etc.
In the past I’ve been fine, motivation has been great, but recently I’ve noticed it a little bit.
Unfortunately life has its own plans so it can be a little hard for me to make a doodle that day, expecially recently since I’ve been experiencing personal/medical issues. It’s part of the reason I’m hoping to get a second (maybe third) person to help me do daily doodles so I can take a little bit of the load off my shoulders.
So what does this mean for this blog?
Not much right now. But in the future, there may be some changes. My current plan is to keep going on daily doodles/posts for the length of a standard year, so roughly 365 days. After that, if things in personal life keep up the way they have, I may have to stop daily doodles and instead will post only if I have time. That likely means doodles every other day or every three days or something. At the very least I’ll still post a doodle once a week.
Not to worry though! I’ll still try my best even after I reach day 365 :)
I’ll discuss how things work a little more on my main @miizori later, but that’s as much as I can think to explain rn.
———————————————
Just a few more things I wanted to say!
This community has been so cool to interact with, so much tamer than some others I’ve been apart of in the past. I’m genuinely thankful for how much support and how nice everyone has been. I truly didn’t expect to get this far, I was fully expecting to have stopped like 10 doodles in lol. I especially love to see all your comments in the tags and people sharing their art. You’re all so cool :)))
I have a dtiys from back when I reached 300 followers that’s still available if you’re feeling up to it!
Also my main (again, @miizori) is where I make updates on doodle stuff, regular art stuff and so on if you’re interested at all in that lol
I think that’s all that I can remember wanting to say, so thanks!! I look forward to more doodles for you all :)

what in your opinion makes metroidvanias such a risky choice as a first indie game passion project?
(With reference to this post here.)
There are a few reasons for that.
First, metroidvanias need to do a lot of different things well in order to deliver a solid experience of play. The prototypical metroidvania combines all of the design challenges of precision puzzle platformer, an action RPG, and – depending on your choice of combat mechanics – either a side scrolling brawler or a bullet hell shooter (or occasionally both!), and you can't afford to have any weak points. You need to do all of that stuff well, all of the time, or the whole game is going to suck.
Second, the complexity of doing QA for a metroidvania grows exponentially rather than linearly. Unless you're putting the game on rails (and some projects do resort to this), every added area, feature, or upgrade needs to be considered in the context of every other area, feature, or upgrade. What happens if the player explores area A before area B? What happens if the player explores area B before area A? Are there any areas that it's possible to get into but not get out of, assuming the player has a specific combination of upgrades? How does that answer change for every other combination of upgrades the player could conceivably have at that point in the game? Have you tested them? Are you sure?
Third, metroidvanias are just a lot of work content-wise. Unless you're hybridising with a different, more padding-friendly genre, like a roguelike or a soulslike, the basic structure of a metroidvania means that it's simply not amenable to any of the common strategies that are used to pad out a game's playing time. Compared to most other genres, you need to produce a much larger volume of content relative to the expected average length of play; this is why even flagship AAA metroidvanias like Metroid Dread tend to top out at 10–12 hours for a typical casual playthrough, and it's also why the genre is unpopular with AAA studios in general.
(Incidentally, that third part is a why it's so – pardon the pun – bugfuck insane that Hollow Knight is sporting a 25-hour casual playthrough, and why the grumbling over Silksong's release date is so unreasonable. An indie studio managed to turn out a project on a scale that even Nintendo money can't reliably accomplish, and you're pissed because it's taking them too long to do it twice?)

OK OK I KNOW THIS IS A BLOG ABT SILKSONGS RELEASE DATE BUT I NEED TO TALK ABT SOMETHING FUNNY
For those of you who don’t know there’s this AU called “Hollow Fables” which is a crossover au between Bug Fables and Hollow Knight (please make more fics abt it im begging)
(Cutting this cuz it gets pretty long)
But like- imagine Bugaria and Hallownest doing some peace treaty stuff or whatever kingdoms do, and then they do like- currency conversion, where you can turn your berries into geo and vice versa.
That sounds convenient and helpful, and it is in case a bug from one kingdom decides to stay at another! Plus in some fics the bugs of Hallownest don’t have much of a luxury when it comes to food so they can use the berries as food instead of currency in a weird way!
Now imagine a certain ghost finds out abt this.
Ghost is like- crazy rich due to the colosseum and other bosses, and they’ve basically bought everything they can, and when more people come they’ll buy more, so they have no shortage on money, but like- imagine how messed up it would be for this literal child to convert thousands of geo into berries, and become like- the richest person in Bugaria!
I’m pretty sure that the max berries you can get in bug fables is 999, and apparently according to the wiki the max geo you can get is 9,999,999 so that would PROBABLY mess up the economy!
But like- what if they just make it so geo is worth a lot less than berries to have some type of damage control? Or maybe they just- ban ghost from converting geo to berries so all hell doesn’t break loose?
But that begs the question, how much geo does Hornet or Quirrel have? They’ve lived in hallownest all their lives so they must’ve collected a LOT of geo, especially considering they’re descendants from very influential and most likely rich people, hornets a PRINCESS for goodness sake!
So how would the bug fables bugs deal with it?

The Next Nintendo Indie World Showcase Is Set For Tomorrow

The Next Nintendo Indie World Showcase Is Set For Tomorrow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With huge winter game releases behind us and huge summer announcements right around the corner, the games industry is set for a relatively quiet month or two. Luckily, Nintendo plans to briefly step in to fill that void. Today, it announced the next Indie World Showcase, a live stream event focused on the latest indie titles to come to the Switch, for tomorrow, April 17. The showcase will air at 7 AM PT/10 AM ET and last for around 20 minutes.
It’s in the name so it might be obvious to some, but don’t expect any first-party games or hardware announcements out of this event. An Indie World Showcase is also not the same thing as a Nintendo Partner Showcase, which is just a show about third party games. This can include indie titles (the last one had a trailer for Another Crab’s Treasure, for example) but also includes larger developers, like Sega or Atlus.
If that’s confusing, you can get a sense of the games that have been showcased in this type of presentation in the past by visiting the official Indie World site. Fans will most likely be clamoring for a trailer or release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to the 2017 bug-themed Metroidvania. But while it’s (hopefully) right around the corner, there’s no specific reason to believe it will appear at this event other than the fact that it’s an indie game coming to the Switch.
We won’t know until the Indie World Showcase properly airs tomorrow. When it does, you can watch it right here.

The story beat I’m most looking forward to in kh4 is honestly Strelitzia and her relationship with Marluxia/lauriam, because the members of organisation XIII that don’t have present somebodies (larxene, marluxia, and especially Demyx and Luxord) and their backstories are so intriguing and I’m so excited for them to be explored. Also how long has Strelitzia been in Quadratum? Does time flow differently here? Why was she the first face Sora saw?
I always thought that marluxia was the coolest org member (I have a thing for scythes AND rose petals, he really gets me going) so I’ve always been sad he kinda doesn’t have any relevancy after CoM.
Anyway kingdom hearts 4 is my most anticipated game of 2024 and it isn’t even close. Silksong would dethrone it but I’m not going to predict ANY release date for it, I’ve learnt my lesson.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Gets New Trailer, Day 1 On Xbox Game Pass
Hollow Knight: Silksong Gets New Trailer, Day 1 On Xbox Game Pass
Finally, after three years of yearning for more Hollow Knight, Silksong appeared at today’s Xbox + Bethesda Showcase, but it does not yet have a release date. However, the trailer did confirm that it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass when it arrives on Xbox and PC. In the new trailer shown today and the first proper look at Team Cherry’s insectoid Metroidvania we’ve gotten since 2019,…

The Era of Mediocrity
2019 was a really big year for me. It was the year that I really started taking care of myself and began moving towards a more mentally healthy situation. I started going out to events more often, filling my life with fun memories and awesome situations, got a good plan for the next few years of my life, and all in all truly grew as a person in a way that I hadn’t for a long time.
However...2019 was also the year that I realized that we are living in the Era of Mediocrity, at least when it comes to big budget companies that control most of the entertainment we consume. This is directed at the Walt Disney Company and the Pokemon Company, mainly, but on a more personal level I was made aware of this through RWBY.
RWBY opened my eyes to the fact that a lot of the entertainment I’d come to love over the past few years has become...less than stellar than how it once was. Between Volume 6 and now Volume 7, I have seen a terrible shift in the way the writing is handled. The plots don’t make sense, the characters no longer feel real, and the whole narrative of each Volume seems to bend to the whim of the protagonists, promoting their actions as good and justified when they are anything but.
In spite of that, I can’t say that RWBY is a bad show, because it’s not. The animation is stunning--for something that started out with such stilted and jarring animation for anything that wasn’t a fight scene, this series has grown beautifully, as have how the voice actors in showing their skills and getting into the characters. It’s showing us a wider world, and seeing that worldbuilding is wonderful to me, a writer and worldbuilder.
However, it all hinges on expectations. After Volume 3, we were promised--in less words than actions, perhaps--that the show would get more serious, that it would treat the story with as much realism as it could while abiding by the fantasy. And yet, the writing in the recent Volumes has fallen short numerous times. Too many things happen in ways that don’t feel real, that don’t feel right, and it took me out of the show so much, that I dropped it.
But RWBY’s not the main reason for my frustration--it’s merely the tip of the iceberg. The true frustrations I have are with Disney and Pokemon.
This year saw the end of two incredible franchises under Disney’s wings--with Endgame finishing off the massive three-phase mission for the MCU, and Rise of Skywalker finishing off the new Star Wars trilogy. Now, I had no expectations that Rise of Skywalker would be a good movie. While I don’t hate the Last Jedi, it made it clear to me that the series was held together by pipe-cleaners and Elmers glue.
However, what I was frustrated with was Endgame. I was actually very excited to see this movie--I had loved Infinity War, and still do. It was one of the best movies to come out in 2018, honestly. However, the movie that followed was a poorly written fanfiction disguised as a Marvel movie. The characters were given unfulfilling storylines, treated like cardboard cutouts thrown into situations that didn’t make sense, and given direction that did not give them room to grow.
I mean, we all know about the wedding/funeral situation by now, right?
In spite of that...like with RWBY, I can’t say it was a bad movie. It just failed to be a good one in so many ways. The writing fell flat, the direction was terrible, but the fight scenes? The Avengers Assemble and final battle alone are some of my favorite movie moments of the series, and they just barely manage to save this movie from being a bad movie, to just a mediocre movie.
Along with Endgame, Disney released a few other movies as well--however, both of them were live-action remakes. Now, I will give credit where credit is due, and say that the live-action Aladdin does stand out from the original a bit--it adds to the story and gives it a new flavor that is nice...but it’s not great. It’s a good movie, but not one that I’ve felt inclined to return to--not even for any specific scene, like with Endgame’s Avengers Assemble.
On the other hand, though, we have the live-action Lion King. A movie that is almost frame-for-frame the exact same movie as the original 1994 Lion King movie. There are a few scenes here and there that were added in, but they weren’t necessary, and they didn’t add anything of substance to the story. It was, essentially, just a high-definition version of the Lion King, and with the expressions and actions, not a good one.
It finally sank in, for me, with Pokemon Sword and Shield, and especially with the new DLCs coming out this year. We had revealed to us that a Dex cut was coming and that only some of the old Pokemon would be returning to the new game. And yet, with the new DLCs, almost all of the old Pokemon will become available in the new games--but for an extra thirty dollars.
That was when I realized that the big companies have figured out that they don’t need to try anymore to make money.
Let me take you back in time, if I could, to 2004 and Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. FireRed was my first Pokemon game, and I loved it. I still do, I still play with my old Gameboy from time to time. But, the important thing here is that these games came with a nice little feature that was a series of islands you could explore to, travel to, that were exciting and new. It’s an area that hasn’t shown up in any game since--the Sevii Islands.
The Pokemon SW//SH DLC coming out this year feels like that--it feels like the Sevii Islands from FR//LG, or the Battle Frontier from DPP. Its an area where you can get access to more and new Pokemon, maybe even legendaries, and face new and exciting adventures and challenges. However, the DLC costs extra, and doesn’t come with the base game.
They can call it a DLC all they want, but the truth is obvious--this is the rest of the game, the Battle Frontier, the Sevii Islands, that in previous games would’ve been baked into the game itself, but is now being sold for half of the main game’s total. This is the rest of the game, because they know they can give us something mediocre to keep us satisfied, and milk us for more money to give us the rest of the game.
Disney knows they’ll still make ridiculous money from their movies, so why bother making something original or new? Why give a series a satisfying ending, when you can just slap something quickly together and throw it out, and still make ridiculous money off of it? Why bother putting in the time, effort, and resources to make a full and incredible game, when you can just hold back and suck your players dry for more.
The point I’m trying to make is that the titans of the entertainment business are growing old, Disney especially. They’ve lost focus, and are now focused only on making money, and no longer on making art--or, at the very least, providing a service.
So where does that leave us? Well, the other name I’d give this is the Era of Indie. Small creators, small groups of people, are where I’ve found most of my enjoyment and entertainment for the past two years now. The Adventure Zone is a podcast that has better writing, character growth, and humor than any of the other shows I’ve already listed. Epithet Erased is a webseries that might not have the most eye-catching animation, but its concept, writing, and humor are wonderful and zany. Hollow Knight is a surprisingly dark game that costs a fraction of what SW//SH cost, and yet it is my favorite game on the Switch to date. And once Silksong comes out, I’m going to be going crazy for that, too.
And these are only the ones I, myself love--there are many others out there, too. The big names are letting us down, but that means that the young, the new, and the small can have a chance to grow. And, while I might not know exactly what will happen in the next ten years, I can say this.
I’m excited to see where the Era of Indie truly takes us next.

I am finally happy to announce Voidblood as a work in progress! Didn’t hear of Voidblood? Well that’s the surprise! Elva’s story consists of this AU, and there will be an entire comic dedicated to it. As of time of writing this post, Hollow Knight: Silksong has not yet been released. But the story indeed does take place there too, and will continue depending on Silksong’s release date.  I have been doing some background working (Characters, main plot, elements etc) on Voidblood but have not written the thing yet. Meaning no i am not already drawing the comic, i need to write it all down up until the events of Silksong. For more info this post will be reblogged with a comment at @voidbloodau (https://voidbloodau.tumblr.com) soon enough

Don't know if you've seen it yet, but Silksong got rated in Korea, meaning they've finished all the content for the game and as adding any more content to the title would require getting the game rerated by their board Usually when a rating leaks in Korea or Australia, a release is announced and happens in less than a year
Hmmm...interesting
