Fic Rec: LOTR

Title: My Bow Shall Sing With Your Sword Author: dollylux Summary: Taking Thranduil's advice, Legolas sets out to find the man known as Strider. Pairing: Aragorn/Legolas

Well, I haven't seen "The Hobbit". I have heard about that strange bit that's in there where Thranduil sends Legolas off to find this Strider fellow. On the one hand, I'm thrilled that the writers put that in purely as fanservice. On the other hand, it makes absolutely no sense in terms of timeline. Aragorn should be about 10 when "The Hobbit" takes place.

That said, the author acknowledges this problem and goes with it anyway (as fanfic is allowed to do). I'm still having problems with the timeline-issue. But the story is beautifully written, very quiet and introspective. No big drama and no action sequences. Just two people meeting. It takes the risk of maybe feeling "too slow" for some readers or like "nothing happens", but what happens mostly happens internally. That's what I like best anyways.

Okay so I LOVE numbers and data and graphs so this whole year I've been tracking every fic I read in a spreadsheet. And now it's time to make some cute charts

Fun fact I watched most of Supernatural in February, probably from seasons 3 to 14, and I finished it shortly after March started. I spent that month devastated and reading spn fics nonstop lol

I never see people tracking this, but I was really interested in this data. Specially since I mainly read spn fics, which is a fandom that's been around for a while - we have a great legacy. I've read fics published from 2005 to 2023, curiously enough the only year I haven't read a fic from is 2009. And the year with the highest number of fics was 2021!

There truly was something in the air in 2021...

Spn brainrot, what else can I say. And wincest brainrot. But FUN FACT I'm sure that half of that 30.2% are destiel fics. Yes I had a destiel phase. It was fun while it lasted, rest in peace

My works list is a mix ranging from drabbles, medium length to long fics. It really depends on the idea and inspiration. Some stories need 2k words to be told others need tens of thousands but I believe my sweet spot is around the 10-15k mark as I like to plan plot outline and majore milestones but also love just letting it flow however it wants to.
