Nie ma żadnych dobrych wiadomości.

Julian wysłał ognistą wiadomość do Ty’a z pytaniem, czy dałoby się znów zmodyfikować Sensor, żeby szukał faerie zamiast duchów, a Ty miał kilka pomysłów, ale skończyło się na tym, że Sensor ciągle wariował. Myślę, że ma to sens, skoro cały dom wypełniają przedmioty wykonane przez faerie. Nie wydaje nam się, żeby rzeźbione nadproża okien porwały Minę, więc… nic to nie dało.

Tessa wysłała wiadomość do Instytutu Londyńskiego, który postawił Enklawę w stanie najwyższej gotowości i przysłał do domu kilkoro Nocnych Łowców, żeby nam pomogli, na którą to pomoc zasadniczo składało się parzenie herbaty i wydawanie Zaniepokojonych Brytyjskich Odgłosów („o rany, o rany rany rany”, „nigdy nie...” itd.). Jem udał się na Nocny Targ, żeby tam wypytać (chociaż powiedziano mi, że tutaj mówi się rozpytać), lecz wrócił po kilku godzinach nie dowiedziawszy się niczego. Powiedział, że faerie nawet nie uciekały przed rozmową – wydawały się szczerze zdumione, tak jak Round Tom, czy każdy z nas. Domyślam się, że większość faerie z Nocnego Targu trzyma się od spraw Dworów tak daleko, jak to możliwe, i wszyscy zgodzili się, że porwanie Nocnego Łowcy musi wiązać się z Dworem, gdyż zwyczajne faerie nie byłyby tak głupie, żeby tak bezczelnie naruszyć Porozumienia.

Och, jest coś jeszcze. Powiadomienie Londyńskiej Enklawy przez Tessę było ostatnią deską ratunku, ponieważ teraz wiedzą o tym poważnym naruszeniu Porozumień i nikt nie chce wojny z Faerie. (Może z wyjątkiem porywacza?). Z drugiej strony, nie wyobrażam sobie, żeby spośród wszystkich ludzi, to właśnie Alec Lightwood wypowiedział wojnę zanim dowiemy się czegoś więcej. Ale napięcie i tak rośnie, więc jest fatalnie.

Gdybym spotkała Razjela, to zapytałabym go… no dobra, gdybym kiedykolwiek spotkała Razjela, niebiański ogień rozbiłby mnie na atomy, lecz gdybym zdołała najpierw zadać pytanie, brzmiałoby: dlaczego nie możemy namierzać dzieci? Rozumiem, że to dlatego, że nie mogą jeszcze mieć run, ale czy dzieci nie są tymi, które najczęściej potrzebujemy namierzać? To musi być jakiś błąd w całym systemie. Powinnam porozmawiać o tym z Clary, może stworzyłaby w przyszłości jakąś Odnajdującą Dzieci runę. Nie żeby miało nam to pomóc teraz.

Najważniejsze pytanie, poza tym, gdzie jest Mina i kto ją porwał, dotyczy tego, dlaczego ktokolwiek chciałby to zrobić? To nie ma żadnego sensu. Julian zastanawiał się, czy może ktoś ma jakieś porachunki z Jemem lub Tessą, ale nikt nie przychodził im do głowy. Round Tom zasugerował, że ktoś mógłby chcieć wrobić Faerie w porwanie, tylko znowu - dlaczego? Tak czy siak, nie skontaktowaliśmy się ani z Kieranem, ani z Adaonem, skoro zabroniono nam tego.

Bruce, czuję się okropnie. Tessa i Jem zjawili się tutaj głównie dlatego, żeby nam pomóc z klątwą, a teraz to. Przyprawia mnie to o mdłości – może z Domem Blackthornów wiąże się jakiś głębszy problem, którego nawet zdjęcie klątwy nie jest w stanie naprawić. A może jestem ponura i martwię się. To pewnie to.

Julian mnie woła, zaraz wrócę.

Już jestem i mam złe wieści. Porywacz przysłał list! To znaczy następny list. I przedstawił się!

Po pierwsze, „ten, którego zwiecie”… No weź. Jak on nazywa Kita, Niesamowitym Czarodziejem? Po drugie, list podpisano „Matka Hawthorn”, co brzmiało obco dla mnie i Juliana, lecz Jem i Tessa wysłali sobie Spojrzenie, a Kit wyglądał na nieszczęśliwego. Okazało się, że była niańką Pierwszego Dziedzica. To znaczy Pierwszego Pierwszego Dziedzica, dawno temu. W takim razie chodzi o Kita, politykę faerie, zrobił się chaos i jest mi bardzo żal Kita, którego jeszcze nigdy nie widziałam tak bladego i spiętego. (Nie muszę ci przypominać, Bruce, że już widziałam Kita cholernie bladego i spiętego.)

Kit oczywiście od razu się zgodził, spotka się z nią, zrobi wszystko, żeby odzyskać Minę. Julian zauważył, że to może być pułapka, co tylko rozzłościło Kita.

- Oczywiście, że to pułapka! Ale nie pozwolę, żeby ktoś skrzywdził Minę z mojego powodu.

Myślę, że nigdy nie widziałam go takiego, Bruce. Takiego rozzłoszczonego i zdeterminowanego. Dorasta. Dorasta w sposób, w jaki Julian musiał dorosnąć tak szybko. To łamie mi serce. Kit wydaje się świadomy, z czym się mierzy - nie tylko w tym momencie, ale ogólnie - i nie może od tego uciec. Musi stawić temu czoła.

Round Tom dodał, że Matka Hawthorn jest nieprzewidywalna, lecz nawet ona zawahałaby się przed naruszeniem Porozumień do tego stopnia, żeby skrzywdzić Minę. Kit podkreślił, że już złamała Porozumienia, gdy tylko ją porwała.

Jem, kiedy chyba zdał sobie sprawę, że Kit zgodzi się na spotkanie bez względu na to, co każdy z nas powie, zaproponował, żeby przynajmniej zrobić to na naszych warunkach, w miejscu, które my wybierzemy, z mnóstwem środków ostrożności. Kit powiedział:

- Cokolwiek chcesz. Ale zamierzam spotkać się z tą Matką Hawthorn i odzyskać Minę.

Wiem, że są dalekimi kuzynami, czy coś, ale on naprawdę zabrzmiał jak Jace. Upór Herondale’ów musi być głęboko zakorzeniony.

Julian był dziwnie milczący odkąd Kit na niego nakrzyczał i myślałam, że poczuł się urażony, ale wtedy zauważyłam, że ma tę swoją minę, która oznaczała, że wpadł na jakiś pomysł, ale nie był jeszcze gotowy nim się podzielić. Wszyscy rozmawiali o zaklęciach przeciw faerie i jakich run powinien użyć Kit, a Julian po prostu siedział sobie z tyłu i myślał – kiedy Julian rozmyśla, nie jest to podobne do sposobu, w jaki rozmyślają inni. On jest wtedy kompletnie pochłonięty planowaniem i analizowaniem.

Jestem ciekawa, co kombinuje. Mogłabym go o to zapytać, ale wiem, że lepiej zaczekać i pozwolić mu opowiedzieć o wszystkim, kiedy będzie gotowy. Jednak wyraz jego twarzy dał mi więcej nadziei, niż nasza rozmowa.
