i’m a big fan of how in richie’s episode the director used imagery and shot composition and atmosphere and all that to add elements of certain genre tropes to show how richie was feeling. like when he was going to this restaurant the horror lighting

and This Shot (soooo get out core)

and the music all contributed to this horror movie scene where you’re half expecting something to jump out from behind him because that’s how richie feels about this experience. it’s horrific. it’s a punishment. it’s daunting and scary and he hates it- he sees it like a horror movie.

and then right before the montage where richie learns to serve people, the like 90s action movie quick zooms onto his and garret’s faces really show his excitement and how he’s seeing this as the climax where the hero (him) finally gets to shine after all of his training.

it was such a cool way to show the viewer richie’s thoughts and perspective on the situation. major W by christopher storer + the writers

I have now watched all the Best Picture Nominees. Mostly. So now I can write all of my Opinions and be a Hater and a Lover.

I just finished Past Lives and it was GORGEOUS and wistful and the end made me legitimately cry. I shall have to wait for the recency bias to fade but I think it’s tied with Anatomy of a Fall for my fave in the category

And my hot take is that Poor Things is terrible and I am glad it’s competing with a stacked season bc I don’t wanna award it anything. Except maybe costuming

Hey! Every time I see someone say something critical about TBOSAS movie they always end it with “but I still love the movie!”

You can have a negative opinion about an aspect of media. You don’t have to justify it by saying you still love the movie!

Idk if this is because people on the internet people will come for the jugular if you disagree with them, or if you are just anxious that people will hate you for not loving 100% of something but…

It’s so normal to not love everything in a movie/book/show etc. it would be weird if you did love everything 😂 honestly the fact that you CAN step back and go “well I actually wasn’t a fan of this” means you took the time to actually digest the media. And that’s what you should be doing!!!

Basically what I’m saying is, if someone gets mad at you for being critical of a piece of media, that’s not your problem!

I have a lot of criticisms with vol 2, but one I don’t agree with is the queerbaiting thing.

Let me remind everyone that Will Byers is a 14 year old boy living during 1986, people remember what was going on during 1986, right? The aids epidemic. So here we have a 14 year old boy, probably seeing homophobic headlines on the news and on newspapers all the time and on top of the fact he’s harbouring all these feelings for his best friend, which are clearly unrequited (I’m sorry but it’s true) and are overwhelming him. Did people expect him to sit everyone down at Surfer Boy Pizza and come out while they’re trying to figure out how to save the world?

Or did you expect him to make a move on Mike in the back of the pizza truck after he showed him his painting and literally burst into tears because he’s dealing with all these conflicting emotions, you want him to face rejection on top of that?

It’s like no one wants Will to take his time, to first come to terms with his sexuality and accept himself before he rushes into confessing his feelings to his best friend. Which makes it feel like no one actually cares about Will outside of their ship.

And let’s talk about how critical audiences are towards wlw pairings, because y’all just need two men to breath the same air as each other to ship them but the same people crying queerbaiting completely ignore Robin or list reasons why they don’t like the idea of her and Vickie. I know for a fact if their scene had been re-enacted by literally any of your mlm pairings you wouldn’t shut up about it for years to come bc there’s never any flaws with your mlm ships but all the wlw are full of flaws. It’s giving misogyny.

Sorry but I get very annoyed when actors are casted in an adaptation and suddenly everyone’s allowed to comment on how old someone looks, how dark someone looks or how they’re so not the idealized fantasy of a person they personally had in their head in the name of not “ruining a character.”

Even game/show/movie adaptations/reboots where people are like “but this isn’t exactly how they were before.”

Like that’s… boring????

If you want it to stay the same, go watch/read/play the original.
