i think we should stop policing other people's gender and orientation (and i mean this with no exceptions)

"but this identity is harmful!" how so? how exactly does it harm you if someone describes their identity in a way you don't understand? if their interpretation of a specific label isn't exactly the same as yours? and why would your personal experience be more "valid" than theirs? can't both experiences, no matter how opposed, co-exist peacefully?

all identities are made up. words are also made up. they're just things we use to describe the world, ourselves, our feelings. they have meaning because we give it to them. and yeah, it's not universal. sometimes we're going to disagree about a word's meaning and you know what? maybe that's fine. we're all different, all unique so of course we experience queerness differently. there isn't one way to be gay, to be a lesbian, to be bi or pan, to be trans or non-binary, to be aromantic, asexual, or even intersex. isn't that the whole point of being lgbtia+? to defy the norms, to transcend them?

and even if there was a right way. even if someone's definition of a label really rubs you up the wrong way... as long as they're not trying to police your own experience, your own identity, is it really worth fighting over? are our differences really worth tearing our community apart? turning against each other, throwing each other under the bus, when all we have—all we will ever have to defend ourselves against the cisheteronormative patriarchy and its supporters, really—is each other?

i don't think we should be fighting. i think we should be united. we should stand as one against oppression. that's how we've always survived—by sticking together. we can't fight for our rights if we're too busy canceling each other on twitter over which flag to use or what you're allowed to wear at pride. i'm not saying we can't have these debates—in fact, i think we should have them! but not this way. we're so caught up in our little disagreements that we forget about what really matters. inclusiveness. acceptance. love. these are what i stand for. and i wish more people in this so-called community would actually share the same values.

SPOILERS FOR LUCIFER BELOW

I mean come on. An evil twin brother, previously never mentioned? And now he's supposed to have been manipulating Lucifer's every move for their entire existence. Way to undermine the "I feel manipulated by God" storyline. And how is it possible that a character so intrinsically tied to Lucifer would NEVER have been mentioned before? (The "No we can't name the baby Michael" at the end of season 4 doesn't count, it was obviously planted just to give us at least some kind of heads up) It's just way too obviously something they made up just now for me to able to let it slide.

Also, it vexes me that Chloe is going through an existential crisis now that is basically the same thing Lucifer went through two seasons ago, and when it happened to him he freaked out, left town without a word, got fake married, came back, kept his distance and became scarily paranoid for the better part of a 26 (24?) episode season. It was the entire story arc of that season that he had to get past it. He should be able to relate so hard. But no. He doesn't understand why she can't just get over it in an afternoon. It feels really weird, especially since, as self-absorbed as he is, he is actually very understanding.

I'm chill with billford, it's a good ship. But I'm still a billdip shipper in my heart and soul and seeing people say "why did people ever ship billdip when billford is right there" pisses me off. You weren't there, ford didn't fucking EXIST for most of the show.

AND ALSO it's all well and good now we're all old, but back when I was 11 and had a religious obsession with bill cipher it was much easier to project myself onto dipper than ford. And as time goes on you get attached to ships, they feel like old friends you share treasured memories with.

I just hope there isn't any more stupid death threats over shipping, please this isn't 2015

The thing about Chip Zdarsky's daredevil run is that it takes inspiration from the Netflix show and forces that into the comic continuity, but it doesn't even lean into the elements I personally love about Netflix Matt?

He's not perfect, but NMCU Matt at his best is shown to be deeply compassionate and has such a rather warm demeanour to him. When he's happy (especially in college-aged flashbacks) he's really expressive. Women like him because he comes across as thoughtful, rather than being a womaniser. And there's no question as to whether he loves Elektra or not, considering he spends most of the Defenders trying to get through to her.

Not to mention that his Catholicism is deeply personal and certainly not devout. He's a person who grew up around religion and is uniquely attuned to the suffering around him, trying to work out his place in being a man of the people.

None of these traits are inherently better than 616 comic Matt, or even drastically different (although I do think they're fundamentally different characters who I like for different reasons).

But I guess my point is that... it feels like Zdarsky's Matt is based mostly off the "he's an emo Catholic who dresses like a devil to let out his anger and also sleeps with loads of women" jokes based on people's perceptions of Netflix Matt, without adapting a lot of the likeability and nuance that made me like him in the first place.

I just now figured out why I prefer not to read from the viewpoint of my favorite character, but rather from the viewpoint of the ship partner I read about. It's simple, really. I just want my favorite characters to be worshiped the way they deserve, and the best way to do that is by reading the viewpoint of their shipping partner. I do prefer to read my favorite character's viewpoint, though, when I'm in the mood to read about them suffering. Or it's none shippy.

The assumption that all atheists are people who’ve “never touched a religious text in their life” basically says to me you have a specific view of atheists and have probably not known many.

Most of them grew up IN the system and DO know the text and THAT’S why they walk away. 

If you’re gonna make a whole post on ppl not using nuance with CR stuff right now the least you can do is use nuance yourself and not paint an entire group of people with a brush that TV taught you, or a bunch of white men into power *cough* Dawkins *cough* coopted a movement in a society where to not believe in god is synonymous with being immoral.

So just keep in mind, the representation of people without faith that you see on TV or twitter isn’t the majority and 9 times out of 10 isn’t correct at all.

You know what? Nevermind. Stop leaving comments on my fic. I don't want comments saying "I wanted you to do this/I thought you'd do that" or ones I can't tell if you're mocking me or not. Stop it. Grow up and learn to treat writers as human beings who are pouring their blood sweat and tears into a story that they're LETTING you read for FREE because they wanted to share a story they were having fun telling. Well, I'm not having fun anymore and I am 🤏this close to just stopping writing the story. And that makes me mad because I was having fun. We were in a mutualistic relationship where I was writing a story I enjoyed and people were also really enjoying it! Now I'm just feeling used.
