Fic Friday 5 + 1 Roundup: Mando Gets His Guy
Whoops, it was a bit heteronormative of me to do an OC snagging a popular male character, in the month of Pride no less, so to make up for it have some fics where the Mandalorian gets the guy. I mean he's a great bounty hunter so he usually does but, in this case, a romantic partner is what he gets.
Into the Unknown (AO3) - "Strange semi-sentient swords capable of hurtling people through time are no basis for a system of government. But the Darksaber isn't sentient enough to care about that."
A Simple Thing (AO3) - "Boba Fett likes to be in control. Din Djarin feels more out of control with every passing day. Giving control over to Boba would make both of them happy. Din just doesn't understand why that has to be so complicated. (Or, rebuilding an entire culture is hard. Boba helps, more or less.)
A Softer Epilogue (AO3) - "Branching off from the end of The Mandalorian season 2, an alternate future for Din Djarin, Grogu and Luke Skywalker. Along the way they discover what it means to build a family, a community and a legacy."
Cin Vhetin (AO3) - "Dr. Pershing takes a chance on the Mandalorian, the Asset, and (eventually) himself."
Sauntering Vaguely Upwards (AO3) - "Life goes on after Din is rescued by a group defecting death troopers. This is a direct continuation of Halfway Between the Black and the Grey by UFOtofu. Which is a reimagining of Lady Irina’s Ice and Luck. Because fanfiction of fanfiction!"
Bonus: Treasured Tribute (AO3) - "Instead of calling for a teacher at the Seeing Stone of Tython, Grogu Sees a chance to change everything. He’s thrown back in time, but his buir Din Djarin is now a teen with dim memories of their shared past, so that’s an unexpected complication. Clear across the galaxy, Obi-Wan Kenobi has just volunteered to serve as the tribute demanded by the Mand’alor, for the Order’s actions at Galidraan and the disappearance of his son, Jango Fett. This is not quite the past that Grogu remembers, but there is still a chance to change everything."

Chapter 19 is good, actually. (Yes, you can hit me. But not too hard please.)
After rewatching today's episode (yes, I did that) and letting some time for my original disappointment to cool down, I want to point out: Chapter 19 isn't bad. Far from it.
Actually, I even found it was the strongest one so far, from the writing to the pacing and overall realisation.
It's only frustrating that Pershing's part is entirely to thank for this.
This part was very good. Coruscant looks wonderful and the overall story, even if not the most engaging to watch, was very well done. I've always enjoyed Dr.Pershing and think Omid Abtahi and Katy O'Brian rock at their roles. I'm very intrigued to see where Elia Kane's character is going and how will all this tie to Gideon's return. The insight on the New Republic morales was very interesting too. It was also so nice to finally have an episode that takes its time. The pace of the first two was pretty fast and a bit messy, which is so uncharacteristic of the show. Chapter 19 however had an energy more similar to the first part of season 1, slow but effective. It proves that Favreau is still able to deliver good storytelling, which only makes me question further, what happened with Mando? How come those side characters had perfectly executed settings and arcs in only 40 minutes, when our main storyline has been struggling to pick up all the loose threads for the past three episodes? I guess we'll see. Slip ups do happen after all.
To conclude on a lighter note (because the negativity in the community is starting to get heavy), despite some disappointments and frustrations, I did come out of this episode feeling more confident about the future of the season, surprisingly. Like I said, absence of main character set aside, this was overall a strong episode. The end part with the covert felt more grounded too. I feel like the foundation is finally done being built (hopefully, as we're reaching the halfway point next week, it would be time for things to pick up a little bit). It was a shaky start but this chapter did remind me, this is a team of creators that can still deliver strong artistry and stories. Now the only thing I am still slightly worried about -beside a Bodin romance arc- is which direction Din's character will take, but the only thing to do now is trust the process since all the plot points shown in the trailers have now been treated.
Welcome in the twilight zone, I guess.

OK, why you did it Elia? Why did you play my boy Pershing like new ukulele? What did you get from it? And don't get me started on new Republic; they didn't even hear out what he has to say to his defense and start to play with his brain? Like how do you know Kane is not lying? At least get both sides of the story before you do anything to anyone's brain.
#Mandalorian S3 e3#Mandalorian#Dr.Pershing#Kane? More like Kain#New Republic realy suck#I knew she was sus but I thought she is with Empire and trying to get her hand on his research or smthng#Did she lied about her past and he is someone who could disproof her lies?#on another note Coruscant is beautiful as always

Has anyone else considered that maybe baby!Yoda is not Yoda's child or clone but rather created by the force by Yoda kinda like how Anakin was except this child has no mother or father?
IDK I’m pretty 👀 about that Dr.Pershing guy having a Kamino symbol on his outfit and being REALLY interested in the child being brought back alive. I suppose it could be that the baby isn’t a clone YET but they WANT to clone it?? It’s anyone’s guess at this point.
I agree with you and don’t think it necessarily has to be related to Yoda at all. IDK about another “force created” child though. I’m more apt to believe that species is just ULTRA force sensitive (based on the other two examples we have). I actually really hope they don’t go with a “the Force made this child” storyline... we are JUST ABOUT TO resolve the Skywalker nonsense caused by that happening and it’s a bit repetitive.
#I hope they reveal the name of the species soon so we can stop calling it baby Yoda#the mandalorian spoilers#the mandalorian#asks#answered out of order because the mandalorian is hot right now
