Thinking more abt DR1. The tragedy of the DR1 characters has a unique strength to me, precisely because we know that absent of Junko's Mutual Killing, they all eventually end up getting along pretty decently! Probably one of the most relevant examples for my muse is Makoto's relationship with Maizono-- in settings without the Mutual Killing such as Development Mode and Talent Development Plan, their interactions are nothing but friendly, supportive, and even sometimes a little intimate. It's not difficult to infer that during the single regular year at Hope's Peak, they got along just as well or were moving towards that. And all of that just makes what happens during the main game to the whole cast, not just Makoto and Maizono, even more of a bitter pill to swallow since along with their memories Junko stole even intangible things like relationships. Another example of this is Oowada and Fujisaki: that picture Monokuma (Junko) "dropped" really says it all...

I think people tend to forget that junko isn't heartless and actually did care for people like yasuke, makoto, and class 78
the whole reason she went to the extent she did with them and killed them was BECAUSE she cared about them
Tumblr media
It's the same reason she went out of her way to just brainwash class 77 instead of getting to know them is because she simply didn't care about them

[Post inspired by arts_shadyjoker & @kassistav & @rirururu.]
LINK: http://rirururu.tumblr.com/post/157551822967/kassistav-instagramcomartsshadyjoker
I’m huge Harry Potter nerd so I couldn’t resist a urge to comment on that post. At first I was about to simply repost it… but I really wanted to expand that topic so I just started “a new thread”. Why? Mostly because I strongly disagree with Komaeda being in Slytherin! I also don’t think Hinata would be in Hufflepuff. I would love to comment about other characters from DR universe but let’s start with simply Komaeda and Hinata.
[WARNING, SPOILERS FOR ALL DANGANRONPA GAMES AND ANIME INCLUDED!]
Komaeda in Slytherin:
I agree with people who thinks that Komaeda really suits to Slytherin standards. He is smart, manipulative, good at using people’s traits against them and merciless for himself when it comes to his goals. His deduction skills are incredible and his, most of the time, calm and calculative personality can be really misleading.
“You admitted it yourself, so what’s wrong with Komaeda as Slytherin?”
To be honest, for me Komaeda is a true Hufflepuff.
No, I didn’t based my opinion on Fantastic Beasts which probably changed a lot of people’s opinion about Hufflepuff. It’s just a conclusion which I reached after understanding his character. The Sorting Hat is able to reach the deepest thoughts and dreams in anyone who is brave enough to put it on and I’m sure it would see Komaeda’s true colours.
Hufflepuff is different than other houses. It simply requires loyality as the most important trait from their students. They also highly value equality, hard-work and fairness. This house apperaciate patience.
Komaeda in the unhealthly and dangerous enviroment like Killing School Trip is showing much more of his Slytherin side than Hufflepuff. He isn’t hiding his feelings but they are covered by his actions and indirect words. It’s a fact, all cunning Komaeda used isn’t provided by selfishness and desire to live - it’s all because he belives that it will help his friends. He risked his life without any plan in Final Dead Room. He was ready to tell Hinata how awesome talent he has! I hinted it in my previous posts but I believe Komeada deep down wanted Hinata and others to survive more than anything.
He was often misunderstood by his classmates who never cared to really understand him. Even so, he always wanted to be useful for them. That was the reason for him to do terrible things because no one told him despite Yukizome that it isn’t the way to solve problems. Later on, only Hinata was trying to tell him directly in a way he could think about it that nothing good will be born by killing people.
Komaeda was during all events of SDR2 selfless. He was underastimating his own value and when he actually started to see how he is outsmarting most of his admired Ultimates he wasn’t even doing it for his own pleasure. He didn’t have fun at all. He was looking for a cure for his uneasiness. He also never betrayed Hinata’s exceptations. He was doing everything by a plan which could be (and was) reavealed. He didn’t destroy any evidences needed to solve a case. He gave them a chance. It was a fair trail. He used his talent as everybody else before. That was theirs fault to underastimate it. Komaeda even reminded them before he killed himself about how he trust them and his ultimate luck. He wanted to point it out in their minds.
It’s all there: sense of fairness, trust, loyality and determination.
Don’t forget about SDR2.5 which is like a Ultimate Proof for my statement. It’s showing him in the fullest. He couldn’t be misunderstood there by his own mind and Hajizuru.
I’ll point out the most important part of it, needed for that post, which is about role which Souda have. It is our last, lost, element. Souda who never had a chance to be someone important to Sonia in Komaeda’s dream is able to make his dream come true simply by hard-work and braveness. He longed for it so long and his work wasn’t in vain - he reaped what he saw in Komaeda’s dream.
World made simply by a desire for everyone to be equally happy. That’s a definition of happiness for Komaeda. Everything is a reflection of their hard-work. The only one problem in that world is, that Komaeda couldn’t bring himself to be happy along with everyone as he didn’t treat himself as the others because of his cursed fate.
Hinata in Hufflepuff:
Hinata is often interpreted only by his actions in SDR2 and Kibou-hen. I don’t mind that. It’s part of him but not everything he was and is. As in Komaeda’s case I understand why people see him as a Hufflepuff.
It’s mostly because of his ability to help others without asking questions and how he was able in all FTE’s make his “classmates” comfortable in his company. When he is focusing on someone else he really do his best, right? It’s admirable. Not everyone has ability to listen.
He valued friendship and was quite clumsy and naive.
I can’t think of anything else at that moment which is strictly bonding him to Hufflepuff. That leads to question, which house I think is suitable for him.
Answer is Slytherin.
Slytherin could be considered as complete opposite to Hufflepuff, especially with considering that house main values. Slytherins are proud people with strong desire to accomplish grateness. They are bounded to traditions, loyal to themselves and their families - not to everyone equally, smart and good at using information or gathering them for their own profit.
Let’s start with DR3: Despair Side. We had opportunity to see a real Hinata in that arc. He was miserable and most of us can agree that Slytherins are not associated with losers. Still, what’s important is Hinata’s view on Hope’s Peak Academy. It’s also pointed out in SDR2 - as his memory which was “taken” from events before he attended to Hope’s Peak. He never doubted a system of talent. He joined Academy to achive something great. That’s very Slytherin like.
When he crossed paths with Nanami, he was glad to have a friend of that much importance. She was from Main Course. It’s true, he never used her to get to know other Ultimates but he was truly blessed by her presence. That was enough for him because he focused on something every unhealthly Slytherin would do - his own insignificance.
He tried really hard to avoid a problem. Natsumi didn’t help him at all when she pierced him with his own thoughts. He pited her when she was crying about how she was a Ultimate Little Sister for Kuzuyuu. Mostly because, he was understanding the strong desire to have a talent. At first he thought it was just irrelevant or simply stupid. Talent like that not isn’t existing. He wouldn’t be satisfied with something without sense. It can be also proved by his reaction on Komaeda’s talent or conversations about his own talent. Hinata never wanted to have a useless talent.
Nanami convinced him about being talentless isn’t a bad thing but he wasn’t believing in it with all his might. Those thoughts were just his comfort-zone. After Sakakura’s brutal reminder of how things really are in Hope’s Peak Academy, he decided to take a part of Kamakura Project. No, he didn’t think:
“He is messed up! I only wanted as a HUMAN BEING meet my friend!”
“Something is really wrong with how things are solved here! I must protect Nanami, find a way to talk with her!”
He almost already assumed that the only way is to get a talent, be someone worthy. As if he isn’t already just by being a human with whom Nanami had fun.
There we have: strong desire for achiving grateness, the most important of all Slytherin traits.
For those of you who aren’t satisfied - we’ll continue.
SDR2: His desire to have a great talent is still there. Idea of having it even if doesn’t remember it is comforting him. But, we will focus for now on something different. Hinata didn’t trust Usami from the beginning of the story. He was suspicious and cautious as every Slytherin would be. He didn’t care if that would change a mood and made everyone feel uneasy. Of course, Hinata isn’t as smart as Komaeda who hide his intentions till first trail, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be Slytherin or Komaeda a Hufflepuff.
Hinata never had as twisted beliefs as Komeda and he didn’t consider killing someone a good thing but before fouth trail he was considering someone get killed. Of course, he never wanted to be a victim or Nanami to be. He cared about her. He also knew based on experience that if one of them would do this, their class would find it out. His selfishness at that moment was stronger than anything. It’s very Slytherin like to survive by any means.
It’s also a fact that he didn’t care about Naegi, Kirigiri and Togami. He was about to stay in the program to live if Nanami wouldn’t interfere. He considered her as his moral compass.
Hinata is loyal to those he likes. He is trying to understand their feelings which is the reason for Komaeda to get so close to him. That’s a Ravenclaws’s and Slytherins’s trait but Hinata is really trying to understand things. He isn’t satisfied with half-baked answers so he is digging as much as he can. That can be seen the most in Komaeda’s FTE or on trails. Still, Ravenclaws are doing it more for the sake of knowledge or interest and Slytherins for their own benefit or interest, mostly two of those together.
It’s also very Slytherin like to be abe use drastic methods when their life are at stake. Chapter 3 of SDR2 is a good prove of that. After all, no one believed him despite Komaeda who is a murderer. At that point of the story everyone started to be much closer to each other emotionally. Chapter 5, can be used too.
As for Kibou-hen, where we can finally experience his healthly Slytherin side:
He is happy to be an Ultimate with all his memories within him. His dream of being talented finally came true. Hinata also have a possibility to take care of his friends which are like family to him.
To be honest, he wasn’t even that much interested in helping Naegi. Mikan took care of Kirigiri. He “wasted” time on Yukizome who was already dead - as if he forgot that people are still dying over there. He helped Ryouta instead, who was important for Imposter. Of course, helping Ryouta was like preventing world from destruction but I can’t help feeling that was his second “main goal”. Even then, when Souda for fun reminded him about being Reserve Course Student he felt a little bit provoked.
That’s the end. It took so long, but I think it was worth it!

Ok so because people keep mentioning that Kodaka said Koizumi was supposed to be the sdr2 protag I decided to do some digging and found this translation of an interview after dr3
https://kamase-megane.tumblr.com/post/153504419222/dr3-spoiler-warning-heres-a-post-kibou-hen
And Kodaka does not say that she would be a good sdr2 protag but rather she would be a great dr3 spinoff protagonist. So while Koizumi still would make fit as an alternate protag, I believe this theory was a case of internet telephone watering down the details.

Danganronpa Another Episode 2: Jan’s Imagination
A while ago, I talked about sharing the ideas I had for an eventual Danganronpa: Another Episode 2 since I’m fairly sure there won’t be one, and I guess it’s about time I should. I will be doing so in three parts: First, the things I would really have hoped or even expected to see. Second, the things I have imagined when making-up my own plot for it. Don’t judge me, it’s a thing I do. Third and finally, random ideas I had that would make me say “JUST IMAGINE THIS”.
That being said, this is all for fun, and I can already sense this post is going to be a mess. DRAE is my favourite Danganronpa game, so don’t hesitate to see this whole thing as some random fangirl going wild. I’ll be illustrating with screenshots for attention. Here we go!
1. Things I would have hoped or even expected to see.
Though some people have been thinking about a DRAE with new main characters such as Maki Harukawa and Himiko Yumeno, and while I like this idea, my vision of a new game has Komaru Naegi and Touko Fukawa as main characters. It takes place around the same time as the events of SDR2, and possibly follows until the events of DR3: Kibou-hen. The scene where Komaru and Touko come back to… drink some water I guess, in the anime, could potentially be the ending of the game. In that case, searching for Monaca like in Mirai-hen would be part of the game, and it clearly doesn’t put her as the main antagonist. She would just seem like one, but once again, be revealed as harmless. The other kids (Nagisa, Jataro, Masaru and Kotoko) are obviously not antagonists either. Just like they are in the anime when they ask for Monaca not to be harmed, I would imagine them to be in regular contact with Komaru and/or Touko (though I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t trust the latter because of her foul mouth, messy appearance, and other personality who’s a serial killer) and for them to be their allies. They could even be the ones explaining their mission or giving them side quests.
Tumblr media
But then who’s the main antagonist? Could be a completely new character, but I struggle to imagine for such an important new character to be introduced during a part of the timeline that’s already been covered in the series. It’s definitely not impossible though, but my first idea for a, if not the antagonist of this game, would be Haiji Towa. Yes, you heard me right, Haiji, probably the least popular character out of the whole series, would be an important character. It definitely seems like we have more to see from him, as by the end of the first game, he clearly looks like he’s experiencing completely new emotions that he hadn’t quite been able to grasp before. Plus we just know he’s not dead, thanks to the end credits that show him alive… somewhere.
Tumblr media
Of course, one could argue that he could have died (killed himself, or been killed by the Monokuma kids because he’s not much of a fighter) after that, but then what would be the point of showing an illustration of him alive in a new place during the end credits? It definitely tends to suggest that he’s still here, somewhere. I believe that given his development, and his personality in the past, there is no way that he plays any role other than an antagonistic one. Moreover, seeing Komaru come to terms with the fact that he’s absolutely not their ally anymore would be very interesting. I can see him having been overcome by despair and wanting for the Monokuma kids to stay as they are, keeping the city in despair. Alternatively, he could actively want to kill them, putting Komaru and Touko in a position where they have to protect the kids from him while simultaneously running away from them, but that’s not really how I would interpret his new ideas by the end of the first game. I’m describing him as the main antagonist here because he’s the only character that’s already been introduced in the series that I can imagine having this role. However, while I am absolutely certain that he would appear in this new game, he could be like Monaca, a smaller antagonist, that’s not as important. We could even imagine the game as not having just one main antagonist, but multiple “smaller” ones; a pretty interesting concept in my opinion, given that in Danganronpa a lot of characters experience despair, and so in different, personal ways, leading to different reactions or crimes. There could be one antagonist per chapter, leading to different missions, each time being defeated. Some could see hope again, some could be put in prison or even die, or if they have green hair and twintails, become a NEET. With these “smaller” antagonists bothering Komaru and Touko along the way (and potentially Nagisa & co giving them side quests too), the main mission would still be to free the Monokuma kids and bring order back to Towa City. A way to free them from their masks would probably be introduced, and in my idea of the game, explained by local blonde guy who looks like he has really pretty nipples Byakuya Togami. It would of course be achieved in the end, explaining their presence along the survivors of the Final Killing Game. The city would have yet to be rehabilitated, but the kids wouldn’t cause anymore chaos, leaving room for hope. Now you may wonder, why would Byakuya even be here? Well you see, there’s something I would really like to see happen in Danganronpa: it’s a conclusion on Byakuya and Touko’s relationship. Because you see, I personally believe that Touko sees Komaru as a friend (maybe even the very best friend), and still has feelings for Master Byakuya.
Tumblr media
(No offense to Toukomaru shippers. I am personally very attached to canon and believe this ship doesn’t follow what the game insinuates, plus really love Touko and Komaru’s relationship as friends, always being eager to see this kind of friendship portrayed in stories. I however have nothing against it and understand its charisma.)
But their dynamic is currently awful. Byakuya doesn’t reciprocate her feelings and is more often than not mean to her, while she simply won’t accept that he doesn’t like her and probably sometimes rightfully creeps him out. Almost nothing has changed since Trigger Happy Havoc, and it’s about time it does. Now, I’m not sure what would really happen. Either Byakuya could warm up to her and realize he is actually more attached to her than he thought he was (which could maybe happen in a situation where Touko is put into danger, probably around the end of the game) and they would end up together, or, and I think that’s the most interesting option, she could come to terms with the fact that he won’t love her, while he – and that change in attitude has been somewhat introduced in Mirai-hen regarding other survivors from the 78th class – accepts to be nicer to her in the future. This could be an evolution lasting the whole game, with Touko questioning herself the whole time, and the conclusion could be triggered by an event in which they have to work together, why not to save Komaru from a bind (explaining why, though she’s the main character, Touko wouldn’t be with her, and they would be alone together). I think a serious conversation and collaboration between Byakuya and Touko is what Danganronpa lacks. Them not ending up together would probably explain why Touko still looks as messy in Kibou-hen, as I would imagine Byakuya wanting his girlfriend to look like a good wife for the heir of the Togami family, and Touko gaining enough confidence to try and look like she does in her fantasies. And bear in mind that this is not a bad ending in my opinion. By finally accepting their situation, Touko would get to move on and eventually come to fall in love with someone else, and she could actually be friends with Byakuya, to whom she was very attached after all.
I think I’ve covered about everything. The characters would then be Komaru, Touko, supported by Byakuya and the Warriors of Hope, and the antagonists would be Monaca (shortly), Haiji (mainly or shortly too) and eventual new characters (or, why not, randos from the Danganronpa universe that we’d all forgotten about and didn’t expect to see as antagonists/important characters). The main goal would be to free the Monokuma kids from their masks, being delayed by side quests and the antagonist(s). The drama would be Touko and Byakuya’s relationship being worked out. With all this in mind, let’s move on to the second part!
2. Things I have imagined when making-up my own plot for it.
Don’t worry, this part probably won’t be as long as the first. The difference is, most of what I enunciated in this first part makes sense when you look into the current canon, and works towards a complete, logical plot. What I will be talking about now are ideas I had, things I thought could potentially happen, but they’re not necessarily linked to each other and didn’t really work with what I think Danganronpa: Another Episode is actually meant to be. For example, I’ve imagined for Touko’s final revelation that Byakuya won’t love her to be triggered by a very different event. In that one, Byakuya would be the one put in danger, and Touko would risk her life to save him. She would survive, but be injured – I have imagined the ending to take place in a hospital in which she is recovering (I guess in that idea of DRAE2, the game takes place after Kibou-hen, and not before it). Byakuya would warm up to her simply because he’d realize he got scared for her life and because he’d be thankful for what she did, but still wouldn’t fall in love with her. Touko’s revelation would, like I explained in the first part, be the end result of her questioning herself the whole game. (This scenario actually also works very well with them getting together in the end. I simply don’t think it’s as interesting.) I didn’t include this in the first part because as I just said, it wouldn’t really match the timeline as well if she’s hospitalized, because it didn’t really include Komaru, and because while it may be more dramatic, it’s not as logical as my idea of them having to work together and just having a talk about it.
I’ve also imagined Nagito Komaeda being a character in the game – the game, once again, taking place after Kibou-hen. It would be unclear whether he’s an ally or an antagonist at first, with Touko not trusting him even though Komaru insists he’s not in despair anymore, and eventually be revealed to be their ally. I think it would be interesting to see Komaru and Touko react to him not being their enemy anymore even though his personality seems mostly unchanged, and to see him trying to make-up for his past mistakes. However, this would require for the 77th class to come back from Jabberwock Island for some reason, and most likely for some of his classmates to appear as well. I’ve imagined Hajime Hinata being the one to finally reassure Komaru and Touko that Nagito is not their enemy, for instance. Since I remember there being posters with Mikan Tsumiki’s face on some walls in the first game, if she shows up, I’ve imagined there being a line from either of the two protagonists about how they remember associating her with the Ultimate Despair. Nagito could play a role that mirrors the one he played in the first game, but shows what has changed about him and the side he wants to take.
Tumblr media
Another idea could be that in this game, instead of searching who are the hit list targets, Komaru and Touko would actually search for the characters themselves. This would be a nice way to get a grasp of their personality and actual link to the 78th class students (I’d love to learn about Mondo Oowada’s friend, for instance) or to know what happened to them. However, I’m not completely sure that’s possible, as some of them can be assumed to be dead, and this is supposed to be Hiroko Hagakure’s job. Plus, I’m not sure what they would really bring to the wider plot.
I think that’s about all the things I’ve imagined that didn’t show up in my possible plot. In that case, let’s move on to the least interesting part of this post!
3. JUST IMAGINE.
- Taichi Fujisaki comes back, but he’s actually one of the antagonists, assuming that there are multiple, like I proposed. He’s been taken over by despair after his attack, having been injured and maybe even sheltered by someone in despair – or he’s being forced by someone taking advantage of him to work against Komaru and Touko’s plan. In the first case they’d have to show him reason, in the second one, he would probably get defeated on purpose to give them a chance to move on.
- There’s a controller at some point, and it’s supposed to be used normally in order to advance in the game, but Komaru gets PTSD from the “break the controller/don’t break the controller” thing. Worse, a controller is actually to be used to finally free the children from their masks.
- Komaru finds herself having to spy on Future’s Foundation activities because she feels like Byakuya is hiding things from her. She goes alone because she doesn’t want to hurt Touko’s, who completely believes in Byakuya, feelings, and hides somewhere in his office, in a location FF would be temporarily using in Towa City. That’s when she discovers Byakuya’s coworker (a new character!!!1!! and ally, just like Byakuya, a member of FF) is actually his boyfriend. She doesn’t know if she should talk to him about this, and whether she should tell Touko or not.
Tumblr media
She finally asks him if he’s really gay, and his reaction is something like “yeah, so what?” like he never thought it was a secret and doesn’t see how it’s an issue.
______________________________________________________________
Yep, I put that part right at the end so that you’d read the whole post without thinking I’m stupid and delusional. Now you may.
And that’s it! I hope a few people will have sticked with me until the end, and I hope this is somewhat interesting? I’d love to know what your own ideas are so please tell me (by reblogging this post, commenting it, or sending me an ask, feel free to do any of these), same goes with what you think on my own! Which ones are your favourite? Are there any you feel don’t make sense? I’ll say it again, I love DRAE. With the poster in NDRV3 and the open ending to the first game, I really hoped there would be a second one. But with Kodaka having left Spike Chunsoft, I don’t think that’s going to happen anymore, and frankly, hope it won’t (unless it somehow comes from him). I know a lot of people don’t care and some fans even dislike the guy, but I think as the main scenarist, Kodaka is the most important creator of Danganronpa and it won’t really be Danganronpa if he doesn’t have his say in it. If he comes back to the series, I hope it’ll be for a DRAE2, but I don’t think it will happen.

Tumblr media
Hello! I want to thank all of you for your support!
It’s a unofficial second part of my post about Hinata’s view on Chiaki and Komaeda. This time I want to show you how similar Hinata and Komaeda are and how it’s showing in Komahina & Hinanami. I used word parallel not without a reason. That’s why this time we will analyze in detail how Hinata cared about Chiaki and Komaeda about Hinata. Enjoy!
FIRST PART:
http://ladylucindae.tumblr.com/post/156740327682/comparison
RENDER: Nemi20
ARTIST: ???
HINATA’S PAST SIDE:
Hinata met Chiaki by accident. She got attached to him quickly because with him she was able to do something she always dreamed of - spending a time with a friend and have fun. Hinata couldn’t believed that his presence was the only thing she really needed. It was strange and rather... normal. He was lonely as her but it was a problem someone as miserable like him, not an Ultimate.
Tumblr media
Hinata couldn’t accept himself the way he was at that time. He admired Chiaki becuase she was a part of Main Course. He tensed up in her presence and he couldn’t help being proud that she choose him as companion even if it was weird for him. Chiaki tried her best to help him and make him understand how being talentless isn’t wrong. In her eyes he was free. He could be anyone he wanted to be. He wasn’t bounded to games like she was.
Time they spend together were precious to both of them. Hinata at that point was even more frustrated to be a part of Main Course. Chiaki was there and he wasn’t good enough to spend time with her. Everyone looked down on him, even his classmate Natsumi Fuyuhiko who should understand his feelings.
Tumblr media
Hinata was inspired by her and that small light encouraged him to ask about what happened to her. It was the only one moment where Hinata was on the way to accept himself. “I’ll do it! I’ll find her and do something to help!”. He wanted to consider himself as Chiaki’s friend. He wanted to be her friend. Sakakura smashed his braveness without any shame. A wall beetwen Chiaki and him was too sturdy to destroy with his own determination.
Tumblr media
Hope’s Peak Academy made him believe that this goal could be accomplished only by taking part in Kamakura Project. There is a high possibility that Hinata being always neglected or even abused by his parents never had an opportunity to develop a healthly friendship with anyone. He admired Hope’s Peak Academy becuase he tried to find a way to make impossible possible. It was a Hope’s Peak Academy after all, who would help him better than them?
His past self was cursed by admiration.
KOMAEDA’S NEO WORLD PROGRAM SIDE:
Komaeda needed someone who could accept him with all his flaws. It wouldn't be possible without Neo World Program for him to realize that he is able to find his happiness. He was self-loathing but he couldn't accept getting close to someone without talent. That's crucial part. Komaeda believed Hinata was Ultimate even better than himself - that's why was interested in Hinata and his bystander aura.
The difference between Hinata & Chiaki and Komaeda & Hinata was that Hinata in Komaeda's company didn't feel inferior even if Komaeda was feeling this towards him just not as strong as usual with others Ultimates. Komaeda's situation is the same as Hinata's in Chiaki's case.

Their relationship changed drastically after Komaeda's reveal. Yet, Komaeda couldn't understand why Hinata was different from all the Ultimates. He was still talking to him even if he was undoubtedly mad, he was checking on him and didn't say harsh words like Souda and he was clearly worried about him when he was in the Hospital. Again, a parallel with Chiaki's and Hinata's relationship. Chiaki was always concerned about their meetings, she was always trying to support Hinata and she was mad at him when he ditched her. This anger quickly changed into sadness and worry.
Just like Hinata, Komaeda was attached to Hinata as he was to Chiaki. The difference was in their self-awareness. Komaeda was conscious of nature of feelings towards Hinata while Hinata was admiring Chiaki because he felt he doesn't deserve her the way he was at that moment - talentless. Komaeda struggled because of those feelings and couldn't tell them directly but they were definitely there. It sounds familiar, right?

"I love hope. You admire hope. In some ways we're similar, but maybe that difference is what's making me so emotional."
And that's the whole point! Komaeda is saying those words to Hinata after realizing Hinata is Reserve Course Student. He is confused but he can't help still loving Hinata for all kindness and support he gave him. He deep down accepted Hinata the way he was, his true appearance not the one he was imagining. That's why he took his hand after waking up from Neo World Program. He accepted Hinata as he accepted his flaws.
Tumblr media
“Ahh... Kamakura Izuru? No, you’re, uh, Hinata, right?”
He was in the middle of waking up and he bearly recognized anything but he heard Hinata’s voice and it probably reminded him about his dream in Neo World Program with Hajizuru. Yet, he almost already corrected himself and asked if person in front of him is the person he wanted to meet the most.
SUMMARY:
Admiration couldn't make a healthy relationship. Hinata was too focused on being equal rather on his own true feelings for Chiaki or her feelings for him. He almost made it. He almost was on his way to realize that in relationships talents don't matter but... he failed. His faith was crushed.
The saddest part of this comparison is Komaeda was able to understand his feelings and accept things way they were, while Hinata never did that in the first place. He never accepted himself or see real Chiaki - normal girl, who wanted to make a lot of friends and play video games.
Komaeda's and Hinata relationship could end up the same as theirs but Komaeda got the chance to grow up on his own peace.
I also believe that Hinata and Chiaki could develop healthly friendship or romantic relationship but only if Chiaki would survive The Most Tragic Event In History Of Mankid. Hinata was too immature in Despair Side.
TL;DR: Komaeda was in the same situation as Hinata but instead of neglecting real Hinata he choose to accept him.
