Part Two
Read on AO3
The first time they kiss, Eddie is technically dead. Or, does CPR even count? Steve’s tempted to say no, because that’s not how kissing works. (He would know the best out of any of them, right?) The cracking of ribs under his hands and the taste of blood in his mouth, how desperately he’s blowing air into too-heavy lungs and listening to one of his best friends cry so hard he’s dry heaving.
But he doesn’t stop, not until there’s a pulse, however weak.
Eddie dies twice on the way to the hospital. They tell Steve later that he died again when he was on the operating table and nearly didn’t get him back.
Steve runs himself ragged over the next month, between volunteering at the community center, donating blood and making sandwiches, helping to clear the streets of debris, patrolling for Upside Down shenanigans and playing chauffeur for his gang of kids who aren’t acting so much like kids these days. He visits Max and Eddie as often as he can. Max still hasn’t woken up and nobody’s sure when that might be, but he gets to have his first conversation with Eddie about a month later.
He’s only been awake for a week, and still can’t do much of anything but talk, and even that’s hit or miss most days. Even when he can kind of hold a conversation, he gets tired too fast for it to mean much, but everyone Steve talks to is upbeat about his recovery.
He hadn’t been planning on actually sitting with him, there’s still so much to do, but Wayne had asked him to hang out while he ran to grab himself some lunch. Who is he to deny that man anything, especially something so easy as watching a half-comatose idiot?
Eddie wakes up after about a minute of Steve being there. When he notices him, Eddie’s eyes go glazed and he’s got a dopey smile.
“They’ve got you on the good stuff, huh?” Steve says.
Eddie nods, but his muscles are loose so it’s more of a roll. “Oh, yeah. I’d make a fortune off the stuff if I could get my hands on it. But, shh, don’t tell. I’ll get in trouble.”
“Okay, man, whatever you say. My lips are sealed or whatever.”
“Mmm.” Eddie squints at him then, frowns until he’s pouting. “Sorry you had to do that.”
“Do what?”
“Lay one on me,” he says, eyes closed now. “Bet you hated it. Bet it tasted awful.”
Steve rolls his eyes, fights back the smile his lips are trying to pull up into. “Appreciate the concern. Lucky for you, it wasn’t anything I hadn’t tasted before. And I didn’t. Hate it.”
Eddie’s eyes open so fast Steve worries they’re gonna fly out of his skull. “You what?”
“I was saving your life, dude,” Steve says. Duh. “Hard to hate something like that. I mean, maybe if it hadn’t worked then it might be a different story but--”
“Oh. Right.” Eddie relaxes back into his pillow. He’s trying to keep his eyes open, on Steve, but it’s a fight he isn’t going to win. He’s like a kid trying to stay up past his bedtime, and this time Steve can’t force down the smile in time.
“Just go to sleep,” he tells him. “Your uncle will be back soon.”
“Been sleepin’ forever, I’m sick of it. Keep havin’ weird dreams.”
“...Yeah, I’ve been there.”
Silence settles between them, broken by beeps of machinery, distant footsteps and announcements from the hallway. Eddie’s eyes are closed again, his brow still creased. Steve thinks he might have actually fallen back asleep until he sees his lips move.
Steve scoots a little closer. “Are you trying to say something?”
Eddie sniffs, make the face like he’s pouting again. “I said, I’mma make it up to you.”
“Make what up to me?”
“Bad first kiss.” Eddie shakes his head. “I can do better. Wanna do-over.”
Steve freezes like a deer in headlights. Like he has a gun to his head. Like he just heard the front door open and he knows it’s his parents coming home. He knows it’s the drugs talking and that Eddie doesn’t know what he’s saying, not really. At the end of the day he probably isn’t going to remember this conversation.
Eddie is in a hospital bed, hooked up to about a dozen different machines looking like he’s been hit by a train, his skin so pale that Steve can make out every vein, every bruise and cut and stitch. Long fingernails and peeling scabs that crawl up his neck like a fungus. He’s drooling a bit from the side of his mouth and his eyes are still crusty with sleep and he’s got a smattering of acne that’s cropped up on his forehead and nose, along the edge of his chin. His bangs are pinned back because they’re so greasy.
Steve’s heart races anyway.
There’s a correct answer here, the one he’s been raised with, the one beaten into him. The instinctual urge to brush it off as a joke (ha, good one, man) to take it as an insult (remember who you’re talking to, Munson) to ignore it altogether (just go back to sleep).
Then there’s the incorrect answer.
“Alright, Munson,” he says, softly, terrified. “Once you’re all better, you can show me what I missed out on.”
Through the exhaustion and the pain meds, Eddie grins. “Watch out, Harrington. I’m about to rock your world.”
Steve smiles. He doesn’t fight it this time. “Can’t wait.”

I remember reading a post somewhere on Tumblr, I don't remember the exact one, I know it involved how Uraraka's plot was handled and how it could've been handled better.
One part is saying that Twice should've been her villain since they both dealt in poverty, one had support while the other had nothing.
And I think that would've been way better than what we got. Because if Uraraka and Twice were to have more genuine interactions with each other, she probably would've seen some of herself in him and how she could've turned out if she didn't had her parents or her friend's support.
Twice also probably would've been touched that a hero had suffered something similar but is able to keep moving forward despite the hardships and not having as much.
So what do you think? You think it would've worked better than the stupid love triangle that's happening?
Hi @theloganator101 👋,
Yes!! Twice as Uraraka's villain would have worked so so much better narratively.
In fact, this will be an unpopular opinion, I feel like because of how Toga and Twice were set up by Hori, their roles in the narrative being switched would also work better if one of them had to die.
Hawks killing a minor (Toga is seventeen) would be harder to excuse and brush under the carpet for him. So more consequences.
Twice would feel extremely guilty because now his worst fear has happened and his best friend has died because he trusted the wrong person.
Twice having a big moment of going full villain in the final battle would be more impactful and jarring than Toga who was honestly a full villain before she joined the LOV. Since he would go from a kind, goofy guy led into villainy and crime through his circumstances, mental illness, poverty to someone consumed by the need for revenge (rather like Dabi.)
Speaking of Dabi, there was more of a friendship between him and Twice and him and Toga. So having Twice fighting Uraraka getting more distraught because he was thinking he lost another friend while fighting her would be more impactful.
Also his fight with Uraraka would be more focused on his grief, his circumstances (that are rather like Uraraka's sans support) - the parallels between them both would be interesting to explore. Uraraka would have an easier time empathising with him.
Hawks would not have a fun time - could imagine Twice sending a legion of Toga clones his way, and only calling off the attack when Uraraka gets through to him.
Plus we would see more Twice asking the honest questions to her like "How do you keep going?" "How do you stay so positive and strong? I admire you, dude." "I was so stupid I trusted the hero who went and killed Toga-chan. How do I know youre not like the guy that killed my buddy? Toga-chan just wanted a place to belong like me..." Uraraka I could see providing him with the answers, support he needed as well as helping him forgive himself for what happened.
Toga (other than her sweet moments with Twice) was set up as an unrepentant blood yandere. Her friends? Her family? No mention of them (no build up of a mysterious past like Dabi either.) She's also a mass murderer prior to joining the LOV - so that's harder to redeem than Twice who wasn't and to my memory only committed burglary.
In my opinion, the Toga/Uraraka fight as it played out in canon was a mess. Hori seemed to try to do too many things at once and failed to give any of them real depth in the process.
Not only that by he failed to explore Toga's vengeance for Twice in more depth by distracting it with the love triangle B.S.
Hori doesn't allow her to really go all out trying to kill Hawks like she could have with the clone army.
He failed to explore Toga's backstory properly (I.e did her parents actually hit her? Her kissing her friends wound better - what happened there? Did she actually just press her mouth to the wound and suck? We don't know but she's covered in blood.)
Uraraka just her 'bond' with Toga, calling her the "cutest" and saying she wants to talk about romance now is all SO forced. Whereas the parallels with Twice were all already there.
TLDR - Twice should have been Uraraka's villain instead.

Fuck it. Ducktales 2017 au.
Donald Duck is a selkie. One of Scrooge's ancestors was a selkie and the gene has just been recessive for centuries until Donald's bad luck struck and it just so happened to wake up in him. No one knew growing up except his parents and they took his coat away when he was like five or six because they were scared of losing him to the ocean. That's the reason his voice sounds the way it does.
They never told anyone, including Donald. I imagine that after they died and the twins moved in with Scrooge that it just got shoved in a box and stashed somewhere in the attic or something. Point is, no one knows that Donald is a selkie. All they know is that he's a bit of a weird kid who just so happens to stare at the ocean just a little too intently when he sees it (Scrooge just thinks its wanderlust, Della just thinks he's a weirdo).
It surprisingly wasn't that bad in the navy. It was almost like the closer he got to the water the more at home he felt which is why he got a houseboat to raise the boys on.
Anyways, life goes on pretty normally (and I'm gonna place this in like about halfway through season three) until on one adventure that Donald happened to come on, they encounter a whole group of selkies. Nothing bad happens, but they all kinda keep giving each other looks and staring really pointedly at Donald which he thinks is weird but might just be because of his voice.
He also notices that he feels this ache in his chest when he gets too close to them, like the ache he gets when he looks out at the ocean. Eventually a conversation gets started between him and the group and the selkies are dropping all these hints about being one of them that are just fucking jumping over Donald's head until one of them gets tired and just straight up asks him if he ever aches for the ocean.
He's a little caught off guard at first but begins to open up about how sometimes he feels like the waves are trying to pull him closer and about the ache he gets. At this point the selkies kind of raise their eyebrows at each other as they all collectively realize that this random ass dude with a whole family of non selkie ducks is one of them.
They then try to shift the topic over to his coat to try and find out how much the guy knows and if he's gonna be alright. So out comes the question, "Do you have a favorite coat?" Donald blinks in surprise. It was kind of a random question. He looked between the three people seated across from him and noticed not for the first time that they all had on beautiful white fur coats.
He was suddenly reminded of his childhood and absently started recounting his memory, "I remember having a coat when I was really little that I absolutely loved. It really was the best thing. It was so white it almost looked blue and it was the softest thing I've ever touched. And sometimes-" (here he leaned in like he was whispering a fatal secret) "when I would sit and wear it I could swear that I could hear the ocean waves crashing into shore,"
Well any doubt the selkies may have had before before was completely gone now. They start hatching a scheme to get him to stay with them (pure intentions, but poorly executed) and end up kind of kidnapping him. This leads to the McDuck and co going on an adventure to get him back where they possibly discover his true nature.
Maybe due to both being around others of his kind and the ocean in a sacred selkie place Donald starts to get ill without his coat so then everyone else is freaking out trying to find it.
Anywho, there's that I guess. Enjoy :)

I just have Some Thoughts about Doflamingo's dad. Not looking for a discussion here, just sharing my thoughts.
First of all.
What an irresponsible guy. There wasn't anything wrong with him wanting to live a "humble life" like a human ( even though they literally moved into a mansion and brought lots of gold lol, talk about being humble ). What WAS wrong was that he did absolutely zero research. He based his expectations on his claim that "humans/people are good." Sure, my dude, you might think that, but should you base all your expectations on that one claim you're making with 0 evidence to back it up? Why didn't he look into how people might treat former Tenryūbito? I mean, if you're going to move your whole family to a new place - a whole new country, and you KNOW you are different from the people who live there, wouldn't you want to research how they FEEL about people like you? But nope, he did zero research.
The second thing, is that he didn't prepare his children AT ALL. He just told them that they were going to "live like humans from now on". Okay, my dude, but THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! You can tell that Doflamingo doesn't have a clue on what to expect. He doesn't understand why there aren't slaves, or why he can't buy new ones or why people don't fall to the ground before him. How would he know?? How would he know these things if nobody explained it to him? This isn't common knowledge for a Tenryūbito. Why hasn't he gotten any sort of "warning" on what to expect? Up until that point in his life, the only thing he's been taught about human life is that it's worth less than his own. So for Doflamingo it's like a whole new world that he's clearly completely unprepared for. How about giving your kids a head's up before throwing them into a new society???
Basically, Doflamingo and Rocinante are now stuck in a world where they have to constantly fear for their lives. What children (and people in general, but children especially) desire the most is SAFETY. Doflamingo has to watch his father, who is supposed to protect the family, completely fail, and their mother even dies as a result.
[ There is more to add here but, moving on ]
To the scene where Doflamingo is aiming the gun at Homing. "You can't make it right anymore", Doflamingo says. He's been waiting all this time for his dad to get him and his brother to safety. Yes, Doflamingo talks about wanting "power", but why does he want the power? To be safe!! All kids want to be safe!! Even Doflamingo!! He's aiming his gun at his father, but he's still having a "conversation" with him. When he says: "You can't make it right anymore", what he probably wants from his dad is for him to tell him: YES I CAN. He wants reassurance from his one living parent.
But what does Homing do?
He doesn't try to stop him AT ALL. He doesn't ask him to spare his life. He's failed completely at keeping his family safe, so surely, the one thing he should try is to not make things worse. He doesn't even try to plead for his life. Does he think that Doflamingo won't forgive him no matter what he says? I DON'T THINK SO. I don't think ANY parent would see their child in such a bad light ( especially when they're that young ). Maybe he feels like he doesn't deserve forgiveness ( fair enough ). But you'd think that even at this point he would want what's best for his boys. And, apparently, he thinks it's better if Doflamingo kills him. He thinks his boys will be safer without him. Without their father. Maybe he thinks Doflamingo will be successful in returning to the Holy Land if he is dead. But still, like... My dude, did you have to make your son shoot you. While your other son is watching. Like, maybe try to de-escalate the situation? To not traumatise both your boys to the max? Maybe say something like: "Yes, I'll give my life so you two can go back to the Holy Land, but you shouldn't have to do this, Doffy." YOU KNOW?? But instead, he just apologizes and basically gives Doflamingo the go-ahead ( since he doesn't try to stop him ). I think Doflamingo's line to Rocinante later:
Why must I BE FORCED to kill my family not once, but twice .
--- It shows that he, as a kid, at the time, felt like he had to do it. Just imagine the heartbreak. What Doflamingo wants from his dad is for him to tell him that he's going to make it all better, but instead his dad gives him nothing. Like, sorry kid you're on your own. And Doflamingo knows the only way for him and Roci to feel safe again is if he shoots his father. Holy shit the trauma.
All in all. Homing is the worst parent in history.

umm my kgpr headcanon is um... that when momo and shintaro introduces the dan to their mom (like how they come hang out at kisaragi home etc) slowly kisaragi mama realizes "these kids are going about without parents or guardians???!!!" and she gets all auntie mode when she can, like gifting them food and other stuff like clothes, but mostly food.
YEAHHHHH!!!!! I LOVE THIS HEADCANON
GOD i have so many kisaragi mama hcs. like. her husband died. she's doing badly economically to the point she has to unwillingly rely on her daughter being an idol. her brilliant son has shut himself in his room and is depressed. like this lady is kinda miserable right.
and then all of a sudden momo takes a break from being an idol?? shintaro is out of his room?? theyre... TALKING TO EACH OTHER...?? AND.... THEY BOTH HAVE FRIENDS?!?! what!!! SHE WOULD WANNA KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!
she keeps asking to meet all their buddies and that she's gonna bake and maybe they can sleep over if they want :3 momo and shintaro are like EUGH. well shintaro is. i think momo's immediately like WE NEED TO TELL MOM ABOUT THE RED EYES SITUATION 💖
i also think shintaro and momo keep arguing about it because momo wants their mom to know about the mekakushi dan and just everything that happened because. ok and she's RIGHT: momo's like. OUR MOM IS WORRIED!!! AND WE ARE BASICALLY THE ONLY ONES WITH A MOM!!! and not only are both of us involved in this but DAD IS TOO!!!
like both shintaro and momo have powers and also THEIR DAD IS STUCK IN THE DAZE. momo's so desperate to come clean to kisaragi mama bc come onnn their mom is like a super lost outsider who just wants to be close to her kids especially now that they seem so much more cheerful and are like. moving forward with their lives. but shintaro's more unwilling because. DUDE SHES GONNA LOSE HER MIND ALSO SHE WONT BELIEVE US🙄
lol i think momo brings it to Mekakushi Dan Sit Down Meeting to discuss it. like CAN I PLEASE tell my mom abt this. and shintaro keeps arguing that she won't believe them and she'll think theyre doing drugs. then ayano offers to use favoring to make her understand better (not gory parts or anything just Help Her Understand) and everyone else is like yeah we can show her our powers too :3 the dan WOULD KEEP HIDING their powers but i think they'd all see momo's point and would be willing to show them to kisaragi mama. because this is their mom and her whole family is involved and she sorta deserves answers to questions she doesn't even know she has. also everyone kind of just does whatever ayano says and ayano is like WE ARE MEETING MRS. KISARAGI RIGHT NOW
also when shintaro and momo tell their mom ok our friends are coming over and we're gonna Tell You Something. she's super over the moon but she's also like. OUR?? U GUYS HAVE THE SAME FRIENDS?? and is also a lot more surprised when like 9 people come over. like holy shit. THATS A LOT OF FRIENDS
and erm. yeah. goes as you'd expect. she freakout she thinks theyre on drugs then believes them then she cries then momo cries then shintaro cries and everyone hugs💖🙏 also there is NO WAY shintaro and momo never met their dad in the daze after dying in other routes, like kido meets rin in novel route!! they 100% did and shintaro would remember. thats also a whole thing he would talk to momo and eventually his mom about. i always get emotional because even if we dont know that much about their dad, in the novels shintaro mentions he'd feel so weird seeing him again and wonders what would he think of having such a loser as a son and it makes me fucking cry. just... imagining their daze reunion and their dad is so emotional bc last time he saw them they were just little kids. BWAA BWAAA
ANYWAYS COMING BACK TO UR THING YEAH SHE MOMS THE HELL OUT OF EVERYBODY. i agree i think she'd insist to have them over for dinner so often. and it'd be so funny because the mekatrio+mary are specifically SO socially awkward. the best is seto bc he's used to talking to grownups at his jobs but kido kano and mary are like. FROZEN.
and my point with kisaragi mama knowing abt everything is that she wouldn't just know that most of them are orphans but like. she'd know that all their parents died horrific deaths.
and ok for characters like hibiya and hiyori this is ALL headcanon territory but i hc hibiya's dad to be Fucking Awful and his mom is rly nice but married to An Awful Guy. and hiyori's parents are kinda too demanding/strict so she can't rly connect with them and both hibiya and hiyori grew up finding comfort in hibiya's mom. BUT WHEN IN THE CITY they stay with the kisaragis because of momo of course but also because kisaragi mama is like ERM. YEAH. IM SUPERVISING THESE LITTLE KIDS‼️‼️‼️ and she sorta adopts them the same way momo did. they're shintaro's little siblings by proxy augh theyre a fucking family *goes crazy*
there's also characters like haruka and takane, they arent orphans either but. erm. well. i dont wanna talk for 1 million years so ill leave it there
my point is kisaragi mama moms everyone💖🙏

Boulevard of Broken ACLs | Self Para
Date: 19 August 2023 Warnings: Mention of surgery/medical stuff (not graphic)
Phineas begins his recovery.
Cheating death is supposed to feel a lot cooler than this, Phineas reflects as Patrick The Physical Therapist guides his leg in the correct motion for the five hundredth time that day. It’s actually pretty mundane. One minute, you’re being hauled to your feet by a girl you kissed at a party one time, being dragged through burning streets while your life flashes before your eyes, and the next you’re spending three hours a week in a rehab gym staring at the ceiling while a grad student chatters on about cricket. He came to Swynlake for adventure, and he’s pretty sure being snatched from the jaws of Hades (the mythical one, not the ex-mayor) is supposed to count for that. But he almost died, and all he got was this shitty Swynlake General Hospital Physical Therapy T-shirt.
He tells himself that he can make the best out of any boring situation, that this is his superpower. That he never needed to travel the world because everything he ever needed was always in his backyard. And maybe that’s the worst part of all of this: that Phineas is supposed to be the eternal optimist, and he didn’t even get it that bad compared to some people, and still he feels this deep, awful, burning feeling that he is trapped.
“Whoa, dude, slow down,” Patrick chuckles as Phineas races through his points-and-flexes. “What’s the hurry?”
The hurry is that Phineas wants to be out of here thirty minutes ago, but instead he just smiles. “Not in a hurry,” he says through his teeth.
“Alright, well, you gotta take it slow to get the full benefit. It isn’t a race!”
Nah, it isn’t, because if it were a race, at least it would be fun.
The fact that he has the meeting with his doctor later to determine the next step feels like a fake milestone. It’s the end of a week of prehab, but it could be the beginning of more weeks of it, if the doctor recommends surgery. And if he doesn’t, there are still dozens of weeks of Patrick’s company ahead. Nothing’s really going to change, Phineas reminds himself as he goes into the exam room.
“Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news.”
Of course. There’s always good news and bad news.
“Why don’t you just tell me the good news?”
The doctor chuckles. Phineas was kind of serious, honestly. He didn’t want any more bad news. But he was a responsible adult or whatever, so sure, he’d do the prehab, he’d do the surgery, he’d shove the instructions that the doctor printed out for him into the bottom of his backpack and actually dig them out later and show them to his parents and let them stick it to the fridge with a magnet.
The surgery is set for three weeks from today, putting it squarely between the freshers week party and the networking event. Phineas considers texting Ed and Pip about it, then changes his mind. He doesn’t want either of them to think this will impact anything, because it won’t, because Phineas is determined not to let it. He considers texting Fawn, but then the remembers the announcement about the forest, and feels silly bothering her about this.
His parents have already moved onto talking about the plan for dinner, so while they’re not watching, Phineas hobbles out to Jolene on his crutches and drags himself into the back seat so he can prop his leg up. The car blinks to life hopefully.
“Ain’t nothing gonna break my stride Nobody gonna slow me down. I’ve got to keep on moving.”
“Aw, c’mon, it’s not funny,” Phineas grumbles. The dials spin mischievously, and then slow down. And then slowly, the volume climbs, like Jolene isn’t quite sure this is the right call.
It’s an old Green Day song. Phineas remembers jumping around his room and singing it a lot when he was younger and angry about all the things he didn’t understand, all the things he couldn’t disappear with optimism. He’s surprised Jolene even comes up with it. At first, he’s singing along quietly, but by the bridge, he’s practically yelling— and it feels good.
He collapses back into the seat, breathing hard. “Thanks, Jolene,” he says.
The lights just blink in response, and next up is an angry Fall Out Boy song. “Oh, fuck yeah.”

Winter prompts!!
15 feels like Alex to me. Reggie and/or Willie, your choice!
Alex has never much seen the point of sweaters since he lives in LA. His hoodie suits him fine, and if he gets cold, he has his jean jacket to throw on top of that.
Which is why, when he and Willie move in together, he's a bit confused about the box labelled Sweaters. "Why do you have so many?"
"They're mostly for Christmas. Can't get through the holidays without a few ugly festive sweaters."
Alex hefted up the box, almost straining under the weight. "Fews like more than a few."
Willie chuckled and shrugged. "One year everyone at the club gave me one as a gag gift. So I have quite the collection."
"Well you're gonna have to give me a fashion show come December," Alex comments with a waggle of his eyebrows.
Needless to say, their moving in gets a bit derailed after that.
Come December, things are a bit changed. The sweater collection has grown for one, because once Reggie came into their lives, and their relationship, it turns out he also has a collection of ugly holiday sweaters.
Alex still gets his fashion show, but he's wheezing with laughter through it all.
Willie has a large collection of naughty sweaters, full of reindeers mounting one another and sexy elves. Reggie's sweater are more so goofy, Star Wars themed with terrible puns. He also owns a large collection of Channukah themed sweaters, bedecked in menorahs and dreidels.
"So where are your sweaters?" Willie asked Alex once the laughter had finally died down.
"I don't own any," Alex replied with a shrug. "I've never been really into sweaters as a rule, and my parents always kept Christmas religious, so the holiday has never held much meaning to me outside of that."
Reggie is almost furious at that. "Dude, I'm Jewish and even I like Christmas!" He and Willie share a conspiratorial look, then nod. "That's it, we're making it our mission that you have the best holiday ever!"
Alex kind of grumbles, but he feels supremely loved as his boyfriends go out of their way to make him enjoy the season. Getting the tree is an adventure in not getting swindled (Reggie is way too gullible at the tree farm for his own good and almost gets them an honest to goodness Charlie Brown tree) or arrested (no Willie, there might be a forest right there but it is a national park and Alex doesn't relish the thought of federal prison). Alex finally lets them buy a fake tree, rationalizing that they can keep it for next year. But he does have fun decorating with all the little ornaments and tinsel that they find at various thrift stores.
Reggie takes over the kitchen, and while Alex is never gonna turn down cookies, he's still not sure how they're gonna eat them all. In the end, they give a lot away as presents, but the really good ones, Alex hides in the freezer for hos own consumption. Willie grins and just asks that he share the snowballs when it comes time to break them back out again.
And on Christmas morning, Alex gets his very own ugly sweater. It has a Rudolph with a light up nose and strings of baubles on it. It's hideous.
"I love it," he declares, pulling it right on. It itches like crazy, and Alex feels ridiculous, but the smiles on Reggie and Willie's faces more than make up for it. He's just thankful that after today, he can shove it in a box and not think about it again until next year.
When of course, he's sure, he'll be getting another one.

Did this girl scrapbook the ad? 😂 I thought this was the college project she did for her big brother whose flunking.
Tumblr media
Lol apparently it was a fluke that she scrapbooked the Equalizer’s ad. Girl, why?
Tumblr media
So why are these men in suits having their business meeting right next to a pool that is...in use by the swim team????
Tumblr media
Welcome back Joe Morton! Also did not know suicide squad was a sports term. 😂😅
Tumblr media
Why is this guy always near a lady in a swimsuit? Also why would wear a swim suit to do someone’s nails? Let alone do someone’s nails outside? What if a bug or something flies into the polish? Is this supposed to be like he’s so well connected and powerful? It reads as a terrible manicure. Dude, go inside for a manicure.

McCall: I’ve talked to your coach and he’s agreed to extend your scholarship for a year. Football player whose whole goal in life was to go pro and make tons of money from that and with 0 educational goals: My sister wrote most of my papers and did  most of my homework. What am I supposed to do?

Gives the kid the watch off his wrist....why? lol it’s solid gold. Okay. I do like the birds of paradise behind him though. This is also a gym but for some reason 90% of time they’re next to the pool.
Tumblr media
I adore Brock, and I’m glad he made one more final episode. But since this is the final ever episode with these characters I’m kind of bummed that Control and Mickey aren’t in them. I got used to Scott not being in a lot of them quite a while ago. (Scott’s probably still dealing with the fact he killed a man. 😭) But I mean heck they gave McCall a restaurant with an old friend behind the desk and she’s not been around for a lot of episodes despite what seemed like a move to try and make her a reoccurring regular.
Tumblr media
I will say that’s maybe the best response to someone surprising you with a gun. Blows them a kiss. 😂 Ving Rhames did a great job in this episode.
Tumblr media
Our football player looks so uncomfortable. 😂
Tumblr media
At least Brock is there to keep an eye on them.
Tumblr media
Ah yes had to fit in the “I’m a father too” one last time. In response to...uh your son is hanging out with a drug dealer, working for him so I know how you feel. Scott hasn’t done that has he? McCall be nicer to your son. Oh wait. “Sometimes they want love so badly they’ll do almost anything to get it won’t they?” Maybe you haven’t loved your son enough McCall? Huh? I’ve got feelings about that. This is the last one. Welcome to a detour. Robert McCall has three children. One, a girl he was unaware of is the oldest who was raised in Montreal  with a police officer as a father who loves her very much. Then he has Scott and a girl who died as a kid. It’s unknown whether she was a baby or a kid, but I kind of think Scott’s the baby. And here’s my reasoning why. I think they probably had the girl and they loved her very much and then had Scott and the girl died and they sent Scott off to boarding school. Because at one point when Scott’s been accidentally abducted Robert says to his ex wife, that they tried really hard not to be parents. And even though it’s Scott whose in danger they spend most of their time talking about their dead daughter. He talks about her a lot. More so then the son he’s got whose still alive and for most of these seasons, the only child he had. Scott doesn’t seem to be terribly cut up about his sister, just tells his older sister that he’s happy not to be an only child any more and not alone. Which makes me think either he was too young to remember much about his other sister. Heck, Scott might’ve been like a “fix-it/band-aid baby” to try and save their marriage or a mistake. Because the ex-wife has shown up twice, played by two different actresses and essentially in both cases/instances, she doesn’t seem to know much about Scott and seems more or less determined not to...care too much. And it’s kind of a bummer since they introduce Scott in season 1 episode 1 and McCall is all like “I’m here my boy! I’ve retired, let’s fix our relationship!” and then we don’t really see Scott all that much. It feels like they meant to include him more and then had to cut it. It feels like based off that same Scott’s accidentally been kidnapped episode, that there probably were scenes where Scott and his father embrace or have important conversations but they were cut. Possibly for time, but who knows why exactly. But it’s just so sad. Because Mr. McCall plays the “I’m a father” card so frequently and yet he’s never really been a father.
Sure he’s got kids, he’s made kids, but the eldest one he was unaware of, the other daughter died while he was working, and then he ran away so hard and so fast that Scott spends most of his time snapping at his father for abandoning him. That promise in that first episode never got fulfilled and I think that’s what makes me so miffed about the whole thing. The show opens with here’s this ex-spy out to help people and also be there for his musician son and to repair that time spent away and to bond with him and instead that whole string got tied off into a circle, it’s the same ride every episode. They like each other they hate each other they make no progress towards healing. Which is that both of Scott’s parents abandoned him into a boarding school. In McCall’s case, since this is mostly his story, it’s a combination of fear because of what happened to his father and also the death of his daughter and all this grief and trauma but that first episode promises that he’s going to fix that, get better, that he and Scott McCall are going to finally heal and be a family. And each episode Scott’s in, that’s how it ends, but then in the next episode Robert is pissed about something Scott’s done or thinks he’s an idiot or a fool and, it’s dumb stuff, like sometimes Scott makes mistakes and is too trusting, but generally Scott is right. His instincts are almost always right. But McCall never trusts them, never trusts Scott and never tries to teach him the correct way to deal with things so it just continues to go in circles over and over again until the ending where things are better. I mean hell, Robert himself gets kidnapped and almost mortally wounded and they don’t even show Scott and Robert’s reunion at the end of that episode. They instead spend the “tearful reunion” time between some random guy we met for the first time an episode prior and Robert.
And some of this might be because they had planned that spin off with Scott as the main character but since that didn’t happen, it’s just kind of...frustrating.
Tumblr media
And there we have it, the final shot of the Equalizer. Kid running off to college with the grapes of wrath under his arm(gift from McCall), his coach and his little sister there to cheer him on as if a college campus is one single building like a high school, and turning back to wave at Mr. McCall. I’ve got a couple other screenshot collections to go through that I never shared. I’ll get those together at some point. But there we go, all done. It’s a weird choice for a final episode, feels like it was cut off before they planned suddenly and so they weren’t able to have that type of episode that most shows kind of do for their finales. Though who knows....maybe 80′s shows are like that????

Any fandom ocs??
There's a lot of them. At the moment, I'm thinking more about Inspector John 'Jack' Newcomen from Sherlock Holmes, but there is also one that I hold dearly to my heart even if my interest in the fandom somewhat died down, which is Spottedstar from Warriors Cats. He's a slim calico cat from ShadowClan, technically half-WindClan but his mother moved to ShadowClan so he isn't a forbidden child, so he looks smaller than his clanmates and it's. Funny. Anyway, he's somewhat of an outcast, partially due to that (since he's naturally weaker than his clanmates, but far faster and more agile; his mentor did not know how to properly teach him due to that) and partially because he's transgender and ShadowClan doesn't really know whether or not that's something to be accepted or bewildered at. There's this tom called Owlfeather that's the greatest example of that latter one, and his parents are the greatest example of the first one: their child is so bad at fighting despite their own abilities, that they keep letting him down and trying to make him into a more ambitious cat than he actually is. It was them who forced him to agree into a 'deputyship' when Redstar's previous deputy, Lynxclaw, decided to retire. He has a good relationship with Redstar despite their personality differences (Spottedpelt has a short temper, cares too much, often loses debates for lacking arguments; while Redstar is usually very aloof, he just pretends he isn't for Spottedpelt's sake because he doesn't want to spook him up with his actual undiagnosed ASPD), and Redstar ends up being more of a mentor to him than his own mentor, though Spottedpelt still doesn't have that much saying in anything and things still need to go Redstar's way (he doesn't really like sharing the leadership with anyone, which is why Lynxclaw decided to retire from his duties early, dude got fed up). It's around this time that he becomes interested in ShadowClan's healer, Honeycomb, a frankly traumatized and imnsoniac beige tabby; she's not interested back, however, since she's not only aromantic she's also not even looking for a qpr at the moment. They become best friends instead, even if Spottedpelt is still interested in her, and serve as support for each other. It's really wholesome actually. And then Redstar dies, and Spottedpelt becomes Spottedstar. He assigns Lionmane as his deputy, which is a big yellow senior warrior; not everyone is happy with the decision, because Lionmane is paraplegic and carries himself around on his front legs, which makes some of the clanmates wonder how he's going to defend ShadowClan "properly". Lionmane is a good deputy, though! He's far more experienced with politics than Spottedstar, so he ends up being his extended braincell, which is nice because Spottedstar can't make ONE decision on his own.
Then everything changes when a rogue appears, a bit in a Sol-like fashion, but this time he doesn't cause complete anarchy, no. RiverClan stops using the Warrior Code due to his influence, exile their leader, and they create their own code and politics are still unstable but they seem to be doing fine and that PISSES Spottedstar off and worries the other clans. Spottedstar feels unsafe at these changes, because what if this reaches ShadowClan aswell? He's going to lose the only achievement he ever had, and he sorta feels that all that he went through was for nothing if there was always a way to create a system that would've been kinder to him from the getgo, always a way to avoid all of the pain. Fucker is in cognitive dissonance, bad for him bad for him

Oh (e.b.)
Tumblr media
Summary: buck runs into his ex fling, taylor kelly, leaving you to feel like nothing but a second choice
AN: inspired by the winter finale of 911
You were a catch. You were smart, had a good job, beautiful. Guys were lining up to date you and yet the man you wanted to be with didn’t want you.
It seemed to everyone around you that the two of you were meant to be but to Buck, it wasn’t that obvious. He didn’t see how you looked at him, didn’t hear how you talked about him. Clearly, he didn’t know how you felt about him.
So, you stuck it out. You put your feelings on the back burner and just decided to be his friend. If he wanted to be with you, he would.
But you couldn’t ignore the feeling in your chest when he told you he was having dinner with Taylor Kelly.
“We got to talking at that call and then Albert said him and Veronica were having dinner and I just, called and asked if she wanted to come.” Buck explained. “And she said yes?” You asked.
“Yeah, she seemed on board. Maybe this is the universe telling me something.” He said. “The universe? You’ve never believed in that stuff.” You told him. “But this is Buck 3.0. I’m all for a change.” Buck answered. “When is this dinner again?” You asked. “Wednesday at 6.” He said.
“Oh.” You muttered quietly. Wednesday was your birthday. And it seemed that Buck was caught up in bettering himself and finding someone that he had completely forgotten about you. But you had enough trying to remind him and get him to see that you were right there the whole time.
You swallowed the lump in your throat as you looked at the mug in your hands. “You okay?” He asked. “Uh, yeah. I think I’m gonna head home. I have a long shift tomorrow.” You said, rising from your seat.
“You just got here.” Buck pointed out. “Buck, I just, I gotta go.” You said in a more stern manner. He looked at you with furrowed eyebrows and watched you leave his apartment.
You let out a large sigh as you got in your car before the tears came.
How were you so unlucky that the guy you were head over heels for, wanted someone else? He wanted someone else so much, he forgot about her birthday. When you were right there through everything? You were there through Abby leaving, Ally breaking up with him, the lawsuit against the department, his parents, everything. And yet you were left on the back burner.
You always put his feelings above your own, not because you felt like you should. But because you cared about him and if he was happy, you were happy. Though, the more you thought about it, the more you realized that he sometimes didn’t give you that same courtesy.
Your day was like the day from hell. Everything that could go wrong in your line of work, went completely wrong. To make matters worse, you had lost one of your favorite patients. She had stage 3 leukemia but she never let that change her personality.
She made going to the hospital after shifts worth while because at least you got to spend time with her. But the cancer was too aggressive for the chemo and she died in her sleep that night. You tried not to let losses get to you but she had been your patient since you started volunteering at the hospital. You were really hoping you’d see her remission but the universe had other plans.
All you wanted to do was lay on the couch with Buck and just cry. You got in your car and dialed his number, getting a few rings before he picked up. “Hey, you!” He greeted you. “Hey, do you maybe want to come over later? I’ve had the worst day. I lost a patient and-” You started before he cut you off.
“I’m sorry, Y/N, I can’t. I have a date tonight, trying to put myself back out there.” He said. “I can come over after.” He added. “No, forget it. It’s fine.” You said. “You sound upset.” Buck said. “I’m fine, Buck. Enjoy your date.” You replied before hanging up the phone.
Since that evening, you had been avoiding Buck like the plague. On shifts, you wouldn’t talk to him. Sticking to Chimney and Hen like glue to avoid any conversation with Buck.
You went so far to ask to ride in the ambulance to calls, rather than in the fire engine like usual. It wasn’t odd for you to be in the ambulance because you were an EMT but you usually rode with the rest of the team.
“Does anyone know why Y/N won’t ride with us anymore?” Buck asked his crew. “Are you that dumb?” Hen asked. “Hen,” Bobby started. “It’s because of you, dude.” Eddie answered. “Me? What did I do?” Buck questioned. “Well, you blow her off all the time, completely ignore her feelings and ditch her for dates and you’re so oblivious you can’t see that she’s totally in love with you.” Eddie explained. “When you were hurt in the hospital, she didn’t come to work for days because she didn’t want you the throw a clot. She had to work triple shifts just to make enough to pay her rent because of all the days she missed sitting with you. Did you ever thank her for that?” Bobby added. “Well, no, but-” He started.
“And when she lost her favorite patient, Emily, did you ask her if she was okay?” Bobby asked. “I-I couldn’t I had a date. And she didn’t say it was Emily.” Buck said, trying to defend yourself. “If you don’t reciprocate her feelings, that’s fine. But she’s your best friend. And as her best friend, you are supposed to be there when she needs you. She shouldn’t have to explain herself.” Bobby concluded. “You also forgot her birthday.” Chimney added as they all got out of the engine.
The rest of his shift, Buck tried getting you to talk to him. But it was always, ‘I’m busy, Buck’ or ‘Can’t talk, we’re working.’ He’d given up when he tried to stop you after a call and you had given him a look he had never seen before.
The guilt was eating him alive. He was a terrible friend to you and he thought being with you was a pipe dream. Until Hen and Eddie told him you loved him. But regardless of your feelings for him, you had done so much for him and he didn’t realize it until you were gone.
That night, Buck went over to Taylor’s to gain more perspective on what he could do to fix what he royally screwed up.
“I don’t know what to do. She hasn’t talked to me in weeks. We’ve never gone this long without talking.” Buck explained to Taylor.
“Well, you did forget her birthday. And not give it a second thought that she was hurting over the loss of a patient.” She said. “That’s not helping.” He replied. “You asked for my help and I’m being honest. You really hurt her. She almost got evicted because she was so worried about you. The first person she wanted to be with after her friend died was you and you went on a date instead.” Taylor said. “I know. I tried to talk to her but she won’t answer any of my calls or texts. She won’t even look at me anymore.” Buck said.
“You are so stupid sometimes.” Taylor laughed. “What?” Buck asked. “She has feelings for you. Why else would she get so upset? If she only saw you as a friend, you would be getting screamed at not avoided.” She explained.
“Everyone keeps saying that but there’s no way Y/N has feelings for me. She’s...perfect. Perfect doesn’t fall for damaged goods.” Buck rebutted. “Trust me, she loves you.” Taylor told him. “And do you love her?” She asked. “Of course I do. But being with her seemed like it was too good to happen so I tried to move on. I guess I tried so hard I ended up hurting her anyways.” Buck answered.
“Then tell her. And do a whole lot of graveling while you’re at it.” Taylor said.
Buck quickly left the apartment and got into his car driving like a bat out of hell. When he arrived at your apartment, he didn't even bother to park in the parking stall correctly, his main focus was just getting to you.
When he finally reached your door, he knocked on it rather harshly and heard the sound of your urgent footsteps coming to find out who it was.
"Buck? What are you doing here?" You asked. Buck couldn't even find the words to answer because he was more focused on what you were wearing.
You had on a formed fitting red dress, your hair was curled and flowing over your shoulders and you looked beautiful.
"Wh-Why are you dressed like that?" He stammered. "I have a date." You answered. "You have a date? With who?" Buck asked. "Emily's brother. We became close when Emily had chemo and after she died we kept in tough. Why are you here?" You questioned.
"Don't go on the date. Please, for the love of god, don't go on that date. Because I love you, Y/N. I was too stupid to see it until you weren't around anymore. And I was terrible to you. I was supposed to be your best friend and I was so worried about my own life I dnd't even ask you how you were doing and oh my god I missed your birthday." Buck rambled.
"Slow down, Buckley, and talk to me at a normal rate, please." You said.
Buck took a deep breath and looked at you intently. "I'm in love with you. I-I always have but being with you always seemed like a pipe dream because you're perfect. You have always been perfect and you know that I'm not." Buck explained.
"Exactly. I've seen you at your worst and I still love you but even as your best friend you never gave me the time of day. Missing my birthday to go to dinner with Taylor Kelly. Brushing me off after Emily died because you had a date." You laughed bitterly. "I have stood by you no matter what. But god forbid I need you once in a while." You added.
"And I am so sorry, Y/N. You have every right to be upset with me, I'm upset with me. I'm pissed off at myself because I didn't realize what I had until it was too late." Buck replied. "Evan, do you understand the situation you just put me in? I get to go on a date with a great guy, one who actually pays attention and then the man I've been in love with for years, shows up at my doorstep to tell me he loves me back." You started.
Buck's facial expression fell, fearing the worst and anticipating you telling him that you'd moved on and he was too late.
"And I have to call that guy and tell him that I can't make it. Because the person I actually want to be with is right here." You finished.
The light in Buck's eyes returned at your words, looking at you with a gentle smile.
"Really?" He asked. "Yes, really and please don't make me regret it. You've screwed up a lot lately, let's not add us to the list." You said. "So there's an us now?" Buck questioned. "I-If that's okay with you." You stuttered. "It's absolutely okay with me." Buck said with a smile.
"I guess I got all dressed up for nothing." You sighed, letting Buck inside your apartment.
Buck was quiet for a moment as he watched you take your heels off and your earrings, placing them on the table by the door. "Then let's not make it for nothing. Let me take you out on our first official date." He said.
"Besides, I need to see you in that dress more often." He added a smirk on his face. "Alright then, Buckley. Take me on a date. You have a lot to make up for." You smiled, offering him your hand.
Buck took your hand in his, happily, and held you steady as you put your shoes back on. “Trust me, Y/N, it’ll be the best date you’ve ever been on.” He said.
In the moment, you laughed at his words but after the date had concluded and all was said and done, it had indeed been the best date you have ever been on.

The Gaang are Roommates AU ~
note: this is a rewrite and repost of my old roommates au, there was some stuff I wanted to change, and I wanted to make the parts a little longer, so yeah, ta-dah!
- think modern setting in the canon universe, bending is still a thing
- the Gaang are all in going to Ba Sing Se University
- I’m gonna change the ages a bit to make it easier for myself, sorry
- Zuko, Sokka, Suki and Mai are 20, Katara, Ty Lee and Azula are 19, Aang, Toph and Yue are 18
- so, Zuko, Sokka, Katara, Aang and Toph end up living together in a big loft type apartment
- Sokka and Aang are old best friends, they met Toph in Middle School, and Katara is a natural part of the group
- until now Sokka and Katara have both been living in the dorms, and they both hate it intensely
- but now that Aang and Toph are also in uni, they all decide to move in together!
- …but the only problem is that the only place they find that they like is just out of their price rage (Toph’s parents aren’t supportive of her major so they’re not helping out much)
- enter: ~ Zuko ~
- so, Zuko has been living with his uncle Iroh since his Father, who’s a high up in some big and important company the Fire Nation, disowned him for speaking up against the company’s shifty treatment of workers and ruining a lot of sacred land etc
- they’re still firebenders and the scar still happened, not in an Agni Kai, but it happened
- but after Zuko started uni, Iroh really tried to push him to meet some people his own age and make some friends
- the only people Zuko talks to on the regular besides Iroh is Azula, Ty Lee and Mai, and Mai is the only one who is like, his friend yanno?
- the last year the deal was that if Zuko didn’t branch out, Iroh would have him live one year with other students
- it’s his idea of tough love
- Zuko tried to do some random kid’s homework to have them pretend to be his new friend in front of Iroh so he wouldn’t have to, but Iroh can tell he’s lying so easily
- so, Zuko ends up hearing about the Gaang through Mai, who heard from Ty Lee, who plays field hockey, Suki, who’s best friends with Sokka
- so, he goes to meet them, and it’s so awkward mY GOD
- Katara is a B I G environmental activist and HATES Ozai and his company, with good reason
- she eases up a tad when Zuko admits to being turned away from as a teen, but she is still suspicious
- Aang loves him right away, ofc, and that makes Katara even more suspicious because she’s pretty protective of Aang
- she claims it’s because he’s so kind and believes everyone but she totally liikeees hiiiim
- Toph is just like, sure, as long as he pays his rent idgaf
- Sokka is weirdly quiet, because he’s had a huge crush on Zuko forever, and the only one who knows is Aang (and Toph but she ain’t no snitch)
- so, ya boy makes the cut, and before they know it, it’s move-in day!
- but, the idiots didn’t think through the facts that it’s only three bedrooms oops
- and Toph is NOT afraid to pull the “I’m blind and I need my space” card
- and nobody’s up to fight her on it, so
- let’s just say there is A LOT of back and forth, but with Katara refusing to room with her brother again, and Zuko being rightfully scared of Katara, it ends up with Zuko and Sokka sharing a bedroom, and Katara and Aang
- they have separate beds ofc
- but still, tension, man, so much tension
- it takes a while, but the dynamics starts working out really well
- Zuko is good at grocery shopping and likes to clean, and Aang is always happy to help him out
- Sokka loves cooking, so he does that a lot
- Katara is always on top of the others with schoolwork and making sure everyone is okay, and she usually does it in genius, sneaky ways so people doesn’t even notice that she does it
- Toph is clearing the air off bullshit
- like, she will call a bitch out
- but because she cares about said bitch
- so, Aang knows that Sokka has a crush on Zuko because Sokka told him in a weak moment, and Toph knows because she just knows
- Aang is a good friend tho, and he tries to like, ease them together
- but he is so awkward about it, the poor thing, and Zuko doesn’t understand AT ALL
- Toph is just sitting back and sighing a lot
- Katara doesn’t understand either but she just stays out of it (smart girl)
- but okay, we know how oblivious Zuko can be right?
- Sokka can give him googly eyes and blush and stutter around him so much and he still has no clue at all
- Zuko starts thinking Sokka just doesn’t like him at all
- but then one night Zuko has this really intense nightmare
- okay and quick addition, his scar is… handshaped? Like, you can clearly tell what happened to him
- but nobody talks about it, yet
- but then he’s having a terrible nightmare and is talking and begging and pleading in his sleep
- so much that Sokka wakes up
- and he catches on pretty fast, but had no idea what to do
- so he just shuffles over to Zuko’s side of the room and starts tapping his shoulder rapidly
- but nothing happens
- so he just… gently and awkwardly pats his head until Zuko wakes up
- and Zuko is like… wat u doin there bro
- and Sokka is like… just patting ur head to wake you from a nightmare bro
- and they awkwardly just mumble and go back to their beds
- but Zuko is smiling a lot because someone who’s not his family or a family friend really cares about him
- after that, Zuko slowly starts opening up to all of them, but Sokka especially
- he never really tells them about being cast out and burned tho
- until one day he kinda casually slings it into a convo all fast and awkwardly
- it’s just Toph, Aang and Sokka there
- Toph yells so WHAATTT so loudly and just metalbends the whole fridge into a clump in rage
- Aang cries lmao but he tries to hide to and be supportive and not awkward
- Sokka is kinda quiet, but he carefully asks about it that night when they’re in their beds, and they talk a little about it
- Aang tells Katara (with permission) and she awkwardly, but wholeheartedly tells him that he can always talk to her
- they do that «awkward sibling hug» from Gravity Falls after
- *hugs stiffly* «pat, pat»
- but okay, Toph and metalbending when angry, it happens quite a lot
- this was the first time it was the fridge, but the toaster, the microwave, and several other appliances have met the same fate
- everyone is kinda used to it now, and she always replaces it
- except Zuko, who’s still kinda new to them all
- but what are you supposed to say when your new friends is so outraged by the abuse you went through that they crush a whole ass fridge?
- it actually reminds him that he’s cared for here, by these people who owe him nothing, and is not related to him, and it makes him a little dizzy to have people care this way
- he casually mentions it to his Uncle Iroh the time he’s in at work, that his new friend is a metalbender and squashed their whole fridge when she was pissed on his behalf
- Iroh is thrilled
- to the point of offering Toph a job lmao
- Toph, desperate to cut of as much ties with her family and be as self-sufficient as possible, agrees
- and now Iroh have two formerly rich kids with no clue about any sort of customer service and basic stuff like that working for him
- Toph is a hard worker tho, and she and Zuko work surprisingly well together
- Katara is a little relived, because the more those two work, the less are the chances of either of them trying to cook or do too many chores around their apartment
- they mean well, or, Zuko does, but he does so much dumb shit when trying to help lmao
- Sokka starts spending a lot of time over at The Jasmine Drago too
- Aang is still trying to keep the fact that Sokka likes Zuko a secret, but he is having trouble
- Katara is his biggest weakness, and now they’re suddenly alone with her a lot
- someone else who could always read Sokka really well is Suki
. whom he used date in high school, but they parted as friends and everything s cool
- but Sokka is a little taken aback when she comes into The Jasmine Dragon one day, hand in hand with Sokka’s childhood crush obsession, Yue
- for the first time in man’s memory, Sokka is a little speechless
- and Suki’s like “lmao dude I haven’t seen you like this since the first time you saw Zu-”
- cue Zuko popping out behind them like “WELCOME TO THE JASMINE DRAGON FRIENDS OF SOKKA :D”
- Sokka is so fucking red, poor boy is just about having an aneurism at this point
- but luckily something happens and Zuko gets distracted
- Suki is having the time of her life tho, Sokka always used to tease her for her crushes before and after they dated, and suddenly, here they are
- at the apartment, Aang decides they need some apartment traditions
- they’ve been living there for almost three months, after all
- so he decides that weekly movie nights are mandatory
- so are pillowforts
- Katara is actually really excited for it, she loves all things cozy and fall-like
- also… she is weak for Aang, y’all, and she loves seeing him all excited
- Zuko barely knows what a pillowfort is, he didn’t think real people actually made it
- but imagine these dorks in a pillowfort with hot chocolate and lot’s of pillows
- Toph claims that she thinks it’s soo dumb, but she will always make sit in the middle of the group all wrapped in her blanket and laughing when the others jump and get spooked from the horror movies Sokka always wants to watch
- and she will make sure the fort is right and perfect lmao
- Zuko is a little awkward about it at first, but he likes it too
- Sokka always manages to plop in next to Zuko lmao
- they haven’t talked about the head patting incident yet, but Zuko is def starting to feel the butterflies
- one time after a movie night Sokka falls asleep on Zuko’s shoulder, after the others have left for the night
- Zuko can’t resist waking him up with awkward head pats similar to the one Sokka used on him
- Sokka thinks he died and went to heaven lmao
- but then he fully wakes and sees Zuko’s shit eating grin and can’t help but laugh at the whole thing
- and Zuko has his “oh no he’s hot beautiful and I really adore him” moment

This is a fic written for @stxleslyds! The prompt was: a fic with Dick, Roy and Lian spending time together in the Outsiders era. Thanks for the donation, Tati 💙.
Important: This fic takes place a week after the events of Outsiders (2003) #19.
“We could use you here,” Roy says. Even with his voice coming directly through the comm, Dick almost doesn’t hear him say, “I need you here.”
A soft wind blows through Blüdhaven, ruffling through Dick’s sweat-matted hair. What a filthy night it is for a Friday. Thunder rumbling in the distance with hot, humid air filling Dick’s lungs. It’s the kind of air that isn’t natural for a place like the ‘Haven. It’s here for whatever reason, and it’s no better now that the sun has been replaced by pink and purple neon lights flashing across the strip. It’s nights like these that Dick can admit to missing his red tunic and green shorts. It was shit to wear them in the winter but an absolute godsend in the summer.
Dick sighs deeply, moving away from the ledge of the building and away from his view of the herds of drunk people whose laughter echoes between the bars and casinos. There’s a tall HVAC unit in the middle of the building that he walks over to and sits against. The fabric of his suit rubs against it, and he squirms a little at the uncomfortable position. He bears it because this is a conversation that requires a little support.
“Dick.”
“I know,” Dick mutters.
He should be under the streets of Brooklyn the same as all the other Outsiders should be. Considering the circumstances, it’s no surprise that some of them have deserted the ship for the time being. Licking their wounds in private so to speak. Dick’s not proud of it. He tacks it onto his mental bulletin board of shame where it sits up there all torn and ugly like the rest of his deplorable moments.
“I’d feel better if you were here to watch Lian when I step out of the room,” Roy says in Japanese. Dick’s brow furrows. Either Lian is in the same room as Roy and he doesn’t want her to know they’re talking about her or there’s an Outsider nearby that he doesn’t want listening in on his personal issues. “She hasn’t started therapy yet and her separation anxiety is still high.”
“High for both of you,” Dick points out. He thinks back to a few days ago when Roy had called him in a panic because he’d left all of his groceries in the middle of the store after his paranoia got the best of him and had him running back to the base to check on Lian.
“Tell me about it,” Roy laughs dryly. “I feel like I’m going fuckin’ nuts, dude.” The strain in his voice sends a full body shiver down Dick’s spine. “All I can think about is whether she’s okay and if the base is protected enough, and if I can really trust everyone here. You and Kory are the only ones I feel okay leaving her with.”
You shouldn’t trust me like that, Dick thinks bitterly. Lilith and Donna trusted me with their lives and look where they are now.
“Everyone else is… I trust them as teammates. I trust them with my life. But I can’t—"
“Trust them with Lian’s,” Dick says, knowing how much this whole situation has fucked with Roy's ability to trust anyone and everyone. Except him and Kory, apparently. Probably Ollie and the rest of Roy's family too.
He thunks his head against the HVAC unit and stares up at the dark sky. Not a single star up there, he thinks, and something like guilt burns in his chest. You took them all with you, didn’t you, Donna? Put them in your pockets and faded away. “She might not be comfortable with me there,” he says after a moment.
It pains him to think that Lian could be scared of him. Scared of him because he looks similar to one of the blue-eyed, dark-haired kidnappers who murdered her babysitter and then branded her like cattle. That type of trauma association doesn’t go away after a week.
“Kory told Lian you might stop by, and you know what Lian asked her?”
Terrible things flash through Dick’s head. Things like words born of fear or disgust. He hugs his arms around his knees and squeezes them tight.
“No, what did she say?”
“She asked, ‘Is Uncle Nightwing gonna bring Blue’s Clues with him?’”
A smile tugs at the corner of Dick’s lips and his eyes start to sting. He can’t believe that’s the first thing she thought of. It only seems like yesterday that he was watching Blue’s Clues with her in Titans Tower. Sometimes he would pause the show and ask Lian questions about each of the clues just to hear what kind of outlandish answers her kid brain could come up with. Other times the detective in him couldn’t help but steer her towards a logical answer. Roy used to always roll his eyes and tell him to stop trying to turn her into a mini Nightwing.
“That doesn’t mean she’ll be okay seeing me in person and you know it,” Dick reminds him.
Roy’s sigh is soft and muffled in his ear. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
Dick’s not one to wait around.
“Let’s cross it now.”
“You’re coming over?” Roy asks, and even though he mostly sounds neutral, Dick can hear the disbelief hidden under it all.
If there was an award for the world's most shitty friend, Dick would probably be in the lead to receive it. Here Roy is dealing with the fact that his daughter was abducted and almost trafficked, and what’s Dick been doing for the last few days instead of sticking by his side? Working himself to the bone in Blüdhaven, that’s what. Hiding away from the fact that he almost lost another important person to him. Trying to avoid the crushing weight of failure that clings to him like a second skin.
Pathetic. Some safety net he is.
“Yeah, give me an hour,” Dick says.
The commute from Blüdhaven to Brooklyn isn’t bad at this time of night. Most of the traffic is packed downtown where all the bars are lined up. Dick takes the highway to avoid the worst of it.
The roar of the city dies off once he goes underground. Down here the HQ looms over him in all its steel glory. Dick’s always thought of it like one giant elevator. It’s all hard angles and sleek, silver walls. Hardly a place one would describe as homey, but it was home to a few people nevertheless.
Dick goes inside after getting his eye and hand scanned by the computer. He heads down the hallway, keeping his footsteps light and quiet out of habit. So far there’s no sign of Jade, Indigo, or Rex in any of the rooms he passes. They’re the most likely to be here around this time. From what Kory told him the other day, Grace has been spending most of her time clubbing, and Anissa has been staying with her dad. He hates to admit it but it’s almost a relief that he doesn’t have to worry about running into either of them.
He ends up finding Roy and Lian in the rec room. Lian is sitting on the leather couch in the middle of the room. She must have had a shower not too long ago because her hair is a little damp and she’s wearing a pair of purple pajamas with unicorns on them. A Cinderella blanket is strewn across her lap and a stuffed rabbit sits discarded on the floor by her feet.
Roy looks small squatting in front of her. His pants are the only sign of his Arsenal gear, and it makes Dick feel slightly out of place since he’s still decked out in full mask and suit. It’s the first time Dick’s seen Roy in person since they brought down Tanner’s operations a week ago. He looks how Dick would expect any parent to look after being targeted by a major sex trafficker: stressed and exhausted.
Those tired eyes of his shift to the doorway where Dick stands, and Dick can see the way Roy looks him over from head to toe, assessing Dick’s condition. He can look as hard as he wants, but he won’t find anything. Dick keeps his face blank and unreadable.
“It still hurts,” Lian whimpers, and both Dick and Roy's attention immediately snaps back to her.
She wraps her arms around her stomach and bends over her lap like she’s going to throw up all over the floor. Roy doesn’t move to try and avoid any possible bouts of vomit. Nothing happens as the seconds tick by. No retching or anything. There’s only the sound of Roy’s hand rubbing up and down Lian’s arm.
“Me and your Uncle Nightwing are gonna get you feeling better soon,” Roy assures her in a gentle voice. “And guess what?”
Lian makes a questioning sound in the back of her throat.
The look Roy shoots Dick is somewhere between caution and amusement. “He’s been playing quiet mouse behind you this whole time.”
Dick braces himself as Lian shoots back up like a rocket. “He’s behind me?” she asks, twisting around in her seat. Dick’s heart starts jackrabbiting because what if she’s scared of him? What if he accidentally triggers her PTSD? What if— “Uncle Nightwing!” Lian shrieks.
Relief shudders through him because she sounds happy to see him. Not scared or angry or disgusted like he feared. She’s looking at him like he just told her he brought her a bag of candy, and that revelation is enough to make him take a breath and finally enter the room.
“Hey, kiddo,” Dick says, hurrying over to the couch so that she doesn’t have to get up. “I missed you.”
Lian reaches for his hand and holds on to it. It’s not like the hug Dick usually gets from her and maybe that’s because she doesn’t want anyone touching her back after the incident. Dick will take anything he can get. His much larger hand closes over her own and he swings them back and forth lightly.
“Me too,” Lian says. She squeezes his hand three times. “Why do you still have your gloves on?”
“My hands are cold,” Dick lies. “Why were you bent over like an accordion just a minute ago?”
“Her tummy’s been hurting,” Roy says with a frown.
“It’s because tigers used to try and eat people,” Lian tells him matter-of-factly. Roy looks like he’s about to correct her but she quickly hurries on. “My brain says there’s danger and it makes my tummy stop working.”
A lightbulb goes off in Dick’s head as he realizes that she’s describing anxiety. A simplified explanation of how the digestive system shuts down and sends blood to other parts of the body when there’s danger.
“My tummy does that too,” Dick says after a pause. “I get a lot of anxiety sometimes. Do you want me to show you how I try to make it go away?”
Lian scrunches her nose. “Do we have to take medicine?”
“Nope. All we need to do is sit up straight and breathe. Breathing really deep helps our brains calm down and makes our tummies feel more relaxed,” Dick explains. He sinks down on the plush couch and demonstrates how she should be sitting. “Now move back until you’re sitting like me.”
Lian does as she’s told and scoots back until she’s resting against the back of the couch. Dick only remembers how short she is when he notices how her feet stick out straight in front of her instead of dangling over the edge of the couch.
“Now tell your daddy to get in position.”
“Daddy,” Lian slaps the free cushion beside her, “sit next to me.”
“Magic word?” Roy prompts.
“Please,” Lian pouts.
“That’s better.” Roy’s knees pop when he shifts out of his crouched position. The whole couch rocks when he falls back against it. “What’s the strat here, Wing? We need to close our eyes or what?”
Dick wants to ask him why he’s acting like he’s never done this before but the playful words stick in his mouth like glue.
“We’ll close our eyes in a second. Lian, I want you to watch how your daddy and I take really deep breaths, okay? Then we’re all going to do it together.”
“I can take really big breaths!” Lian insists. She scrambles out of her pose and gets on her knees. Her little fingers wrap around Dick’s bicep as she leans in close to him. “I can take one million breaths as big as an elephant!”
The tired and apathetic part of him tells him to ignore her kid logic and to get back on track. The uncle part of him is another story. It wants him to be fun and helpful. To distract Lian from the worries and fears she has.
In the end, he does what he always does best: puts on a performance.
“Oh yeah?” Dick challenges with a grin that hopefully doesn’t look as strained as it feels. “I can take five billion breaths as big as a planet.”
“Elephants are bigger than planets,” she says.
“I think maybe the elephants are only bigger in your dreams.”
“Yeah, they are,” Lian agrees because she’s a typical kid who will support anything that proves she’s right in some capacity.
Roy looks amused when he puts his hands on Lian’s shoulders and steers her to sit back on her bottom. “Alright little missy, no more talking. We’re gonna do what Uncle Nightwing says now, okay?”
“Okay,” Lian agrees, looking over at Dick expectantly.
Coaching Lian through the exercise is easy. The most important part is making sure she’s taking breaths that are deep enough to make her stomach expand like a balloon. Dick has her place her hands on top of her stomach so he can see them rise when she inhales.
Roy follows along and Dick can tell that he’s taking advantage of the exercises for his own benefit. His face looks peaceful and relaxed as he follows along with Dick’s instructions to suck in a breath on the count of one and exhale up until the count of ten.
“Keep focusing on counting,” Dick tells them while they exhale. “We don’t want any other thoughts in our heads. No bad thoughts or funny thoughts. Only think about counting to ten.”
They run through a few more cycles. Dick’s pleased when he hears both Lian and Roy’s stomachs grumbling as they exhale. It’s a good sign that the deep breaths are massaging their organs and decreasing any kind of stomach pain.
“That’s it,” Dick says. “We’re all done.” He opens his eyes and sees Lian slumped against the back of the couch. Her hands are still resting on her stomach, but she looks languid instead of tense like she was when he first saw her.
“I’m tired now,” Roy says. His movements are slow as molasses when he slides forward to the edge of the couch and bends over to rest his arms on his thighs. He looks at Lian. “How about you, princess? You feeling any better?”
“Mhmm. My tummy doesn’t feel really uh…”
“Tight?” Dick offers.
“Yeah, it’s not so tight anymore.”
Roy pushes a strand of hair behind her ear. “Good. Mine feels a little better too.”
“Can we do Uncle Nightwing’s breathing thing again tomorrow?” she asks through a yawn.
“Sure thing,” Roy nods. His attention shifts to Dick. “Are you gonna still be here to lead us through it?”
This isn’t some kind of test but it feels like one. It feels like if he says no then he’s only proving that he’s a bad friend. That he can’t be relied on. He doesn’t want to give Roy that impression because it’s not true. Roy can rely on him the same way Dick relies on Roy. He hopes showing up here tonight is proof of that.
“That’s the plan,” he says, voice soft.
Roy leans over the couch and squeezes Dick’s knee gently. “You sure?” he asks, and his eyes roam over Dick’s face like he’s trying to find evidence that Dick is lying.
“Yeah, I’m sure.” He pats Roy’s hand reassuringly in the same way Alfred's done for him and Bruce a hundred times. It's only now that he realizes it's a habit he's picked up.
Lian suddenly leans into Dick’s side and presses her weight against his arm. She pats both his and Roy’s hands.
“I’m sure too,” she says, and this time Dick can’t help but smile.

Prima Vista Part III
[ previous ]
Rating: E (explicit; mdni) Pairing: Mike Zacharias x fem!reader
Warnings: a lot of feelings, handcuffs, testosterone, quite a bit of sex, one surprise kiss (cause Erwin is a privileged dick), parents, domesticity A/N: I apparently did not write an author’s note for this originally, but uh, this is one of my favorite sections of the whole fic, so.
Tumblr media
Mike uses the rest of the break to relax, to get his head on straight so that when he gets back on campus he won’t be overbearing. He knows that’s the last thing you want from him.
You text back and forth a few times a day, but most of it is dumb shit, and the conversation dies off pretty quickly—either Mike not knowing how to respond or you just growing bored.
He busies himself by spending time with his parents and playing with Scout who eats up all the attention. Family comes over for Christmas, and his mom and aunt get into an argument. It’s nothing new.
He’s happy to get back to the school and back in classes just to stimulate his brain. More than that, he’s happy to see you again. Even if it means the two of you go back to friend-only status.
Things are awkward between him and Erwin, though. It isn’t the first time they’ve had a hiccup in their friendship, but this one has really rubbed Mike the wrong way. Erwin tries to apologize a few more times, but every time he does, all Mike can manage is an unconvincing, “It’s fine,” which the other man obviously doesn’t buy.
He tries not to be possessive when you start coming to the house again, but it’s fucking hard whenever he has to watch you and Erwin talk and joke around. Mike figured you’d be at least a little annoyed that he’d just walked in on the two of you like that, but you act like it never happened.
Eventually, Mike has to ask about it, just can’t help himself. “Aren’t you, like, even a little mad that he did that? Don’t you think it was fucked up?”
You’re sitting on Mike’s bed, a controller in your hand as you play Mario Kart, sound a little distracted when you respond, “I mean, yeah, it was fucked up, but I never really expected anything more from him.”
 “What do you mean?”
You look at him from the corner of your eyes before staring at the screen again. “Erwin is a cocky motherfucker. I’ve seen the way he gets the girls on campus, probably thinks he can charm all of them which means he probably thinks he’s entitled to all of them. Us.”
“Are you calling him a predator?”
You shrug your shoulders. “I don’t think he’d ever, like, rape anyone. He at least has enough class and common sense not to do that. But I think… He doesn’t care who he goes after. Single girls, girls in relationships, happy girls, damaged girls. He just has a one track mind when it comes to sex. That’s what I’ve gathered anyway.”
Laying back on his bed, Mike laces his fingers behind his head and thinks on what you’ve said. “That just sounds like a drawn out way of saying he’s a flirt.”
“A massive flirt. Without any real care about whose feelings he hurts in the process.”
 “Sounds about right.”
“I don’t appreciate it,” you sigh, “But he’s your best friend, so I’m willing to put up with some shit from him.”
 “Even him perving on you?”
“Not the first time it’s happened to me, probably won’t be the last. He’s curious, I can tell.”
Mike snorts and rolls his eyes. “Yeah, he is.”
You stay quiet for several seconds, toggling over to another track on the game, then ask, “That make you uncomfortable?”
Blinking up at the ceiling, Mike wonders what the right answer to this is. He doesn’t want to scare you away, but he doubts he’ll be able to act as aloof as you do.
 “A little.”
You hum, nodding in a thoughtful manner before suggesting, “I think we can keep hooking up through this semester.”
Mike sits up on his elbow, looks at you with high eyebrows. “Wait, really?” He sounds too excited, he knows.
“Yeah. I have mostly easy classes, or really, I have interesting ones which makes studying for them easier. Plus, it might teach Erwin a lesson.”
He falls back flat, scoffing. “I don’t want you to fuck me to prove a point to Erwin. I want you to fuck me because you want to.”
The game music stops when you pause it, and then you’re straddling Mike, hands on his chest as you smirk at him.
“Don’t let this go to your head, Zacharias, but no one has ever fucked me the way you do.”
Mike tries not to grin, triumph blooming inside of him, and he grips your hips a little too tightly. “Oh, that’s definitely going to my head.”
You grind your covered pussy over his denim-clad cock, and Mike feels all his blood flow south.
Laughing, you lean down to ghost your lips over his and murmur, “Both heads, apparently.”
That day, the two of you start a routine that leaves Mike falling harder and harder with every passing day.
 *
“Come on, please just be my date,” Mike begs, thinks about getting to his knees if it’ll help convince you.
“Why?” You ask, looking up from your textbook.
You and Mike are sitting in the library—you studying, him bothering you. “I’m honestly so tired of parties at this point.
“It’s not like the big parties we throw, though,” he tells you. “It’s just the brothers and their girlfriends.”
“That makes it even worse,” you push one little laugh through your nose. “What makes you think I wanna spend an entire night with a bunch of frat boys and their matching sorority girls?”
Mike rolls his eyes. “They’re not all sorority girls, just like, eighty-five percent of them.”
Your head lolls, an expression that reads nothing but apathy aimed at Mike, and he gives you a hopeful smile and adds, “On the bright side, we get to stay together all night…?”
“Oh god, it's a cuff party, isn't it?"
All he can do at this point is beg because the more he explains it, the more he realizes how not appealing this is to you. “Please.”
Sitting back in your chair, you cross your arms over your chest and puff your cheeks out as you exhale heavily. “What’s in it for me?”
Fuck yes. Half the battle is won.
“Uhh,” obviously sex is the first thing that comes to Mike’s mind, so the first offer he makes is, “I’ll go down on you ‘til you cry.”
 You snort. “Try again.”
“Fuck you ‘til you pass out?”
“Jesus—why do you want to hurt me? Try again. Third time’s a charm.”
Mike brainstorms for a solid thirty seconds, thinks about what you’ve mentioned to him over the past couple of weeks, sex and school and—
“I’ll help you study for your geochemistry exam.”
You finally look interested. “I’d actually really appreciate that. You took the course?”
“Yeah, environmental geochemistry was sort of my jam last year. Final grade was a ninety-seven.”
 “Holy shit.”
Mike shoots you a satisfied smile, but before you can tell him to wipe it from his face, he asks, “So, you’re in?”
 “I guess.”
This is how you both end up in the frat house handcuffed together. No one seems to be surprised at the fact that you’ve come with him, all the brothers used to you hanging around the frat house.
Most couples are walking around holding hands just because it takes some of the pressure off of everyone's wrists, but Mike doesn't dare try it with you. Too cute. Too comfortable.
These types of get togethers are Mike's favorite, though, always more relaxed than the open parties. There’s still drinking and music, but the energy is different since it’s a tighter knit group.
It takes about an hour for Erwin and his date to approach the two of you, fingers laced together, drinks in their free hands.
“Looking good,” Erwin greets with a smile. "Very… trapped."
“Yeah, you too,” Mike says, trying to ignore the subtext of Erwin's comment.
Blue eyes flick to you, and you’re questioned, “How’d he end up talking you into this?”
You don’t miss a beat as you reply cooly, “Bribed me with sex and study help.”
 “Ah, of course he did.”
Mike’s eyes narrow, but he doesn’t say anything, just reaches his pinky out to link with yours, a subtle claim. When you rest your head on his arm, he looks down at you and smirks.
“Anyway,” Erwin pushes on. “You remember Maddie, don’t you?”
Mike lies, “Yeah. How are you?”
The girl’s voice reminds him of who she is, “Well. How are you, Mike?” It’s a little high pitched and nasally with a northern accent. He especially remembers what she sounded like moaning for Erwin through the wall, obnoxious but Mike can’t really judge since he’s subjected the rest of the house to the same thing once or twice (or a dozen times) before.
 “Glad to hear it.”
The group stands together for a few more awkward seconds before Erwin clears his throat and asks his date, “Another drink?” then makes his exit.
“You have got to get over this grudge, dude,” you take your head from his shoulder, and Mike immediately misses the warmth. “Like, it’s cute that you’re trying to defend my honor or whatever, but it’s time to move on. You guys are friends. Just talk it out.”
He sucks his teeth, almost tells you about the way he and Erwin had nearly thrown punches at the ranch house, the way the blond had basically admitted to wanting to try you out, but Mike decides against it, doesn’t want to talk too much shit only to end up making up with him.
“Guys don’t really talk it out. We usually fight it out.”
“That’s fucking primitive. You should learn to communicate like mature humans.”
“Probably,” Mike hums. “But not right now.”
Being connected to each other means every activity is a partner activity. The most interesting is playing beer pong against Nile and his on-again off-again girlfriend, Marie, house rule for the night being whoever is throwing has to use their cuffed hand. It’s like a twisted three-legged race and requires an amount of teamwork and coordination Mike has never had to deal with before.
It’s also the first time he manages to beat Nile. Mike had no doubt that the other man would have crushed you by himself, but it turns out the actual couple does not work together very well. All their shots are clumsy, and Nile gets frustrated right off the bat which only makes things worse. Meanwhile, you and Mike come up with a strategy after the first terrible throw and use it for the rest of the game.
You’re both challenged by a few other teams and end up winning every time which has Mike feeling smug about the victories and giddy at how in-tune the two of you are. Gelgar even tells you both, “You guys are good together,” which makes Mike cough as you wave him off.
You drink a little more, converse a little more, and then—as always—end up in Mike’s bedroom.
“You want me to get the key and take these off?” He asks between kisses.
You smile into him, let out a little laugh and play, “You don’t think it’d be kinda fun to fuck with ‘em on?”
“It’ll be harder,” Mike snorts. “But, we can. Won’t be able to take shirts off, though.”
“Good thing we just need to take our pants off.”
It’s clumsy and silly, and you both tug in opposite directions more than a few times. Mike laces his fingers with yours when he goes down on you, relishing in the way you arch off his bed and squeeze his hand. On the floor, you give him head in the same fashion, and fuck, Mike can hardly focus on you sucking him off while your fingers are woven together, even if it is just for the sake of convenience.
He fucks you from behind that night, your face buried in his pillow as he’s buried in you. Both of your arms are stretched behind your back, held at the wrists by Mike’s much, much larger hand. He uses his free one to grip your hip, pushing and pulling you on his cock to his heart’s desire.
You’re so pretty, damp with sweat and moaning his name when your head is turned only to shove it back into his pillow when he makes you scream. Your dripping cunt opens up for him perfectly, making Mike feel more inebriated than alcohol ever could, but as his balls tighten and that warmth spreads in his gut, he has a single moment of clarity, assess the position he has you in and pants, “Shit, I can’t pull out.” Not without ripping your god damn arm out of socket or fracturing his dick.
“Mmm—fuck, just come inside, come inside me, Mike.”
That alone makes him lose it, shooting a fucking copious amount of cum into your pussy, so much that it drips from your hole and runs down your thighs.
“Fucking C-Christ,” he laughs a little hysterically, gathering thick white and slipping it back inside you. Transfixed by the way his added finger pushes more of his cum out of you, he asks in a daze, “You on birth control?”
“Yeah,” you answer in a breathy voice.
Mike hums. “Good. Just gonna sit here for a while then.”
You let out a whimper that turns to a whine when he rubs his slick finger over your clit. Twitching around him, you tease, “F-finger painting again?”
 He chuckles, “You know it.”
Honestly, if he could cover you in cum, he would—admire your body painted in white strings, watch it drip down your ribs and thighs. If Mike hadn’t just gotten off, he would be hard again at the mere thought, but for now his focus is rubbing your little clit. Still face down, you spread your legs more and more, and Mike has to curl over you, breathing heavily on your neck as you wriggle and buck, overstimulating him as he keeps his cock nestled inside of you.
He groans just as loud as you do as you start pulsing around him, pussy clenching in a way that actually pulls a few more drops of cum from Mike, then you both pant for a little while until Mike straightens up and pulls you with him, your back to his chest as you hang your head.
“You good?” He questions, brushing his lips over your neck as lightly as possible.
“Yeah,” you tell him. “Just… Full.”
Mike’s body heats all over again as he rests his forehead on your uppermost vertebrae. “Can’t just say stuff like that,” he warns, sinking his teeth into your shoulder.
“Hmm.” He can see the little smile on your face without even looking up. “You did offer to fuck me until I pass out.”
“I have a refractory period, you know.”
You glance over your shoulder, and now Mike gets a good look at your smirk and twinkling eyes. “I can wait.”
Both of you emerge from the room in the early hours of the morning, still stuck together as you quietly make your way downstairs to find the key to the handcuffs. You’re wearing a pair of Mike’s gym shorts, the mesh falling far past your knees and barely staying up around your waist. He knows you’re still messy and can tell by the way you’re walking that you’re sore, but he has every intention of cleaning you up and taking care of all your aches and pains in the shower.
 *
It’s party after god damn party with classes and studying and fucking in between. You have never had this much sex in your life, but you’re not complaining. It takes the edge off, and Mike isn’t the worst company. Far from it, actually. The more you get to know him, the more he falls into what you think is his real personality.
The brash frat boy is a front, you come to find out, a mask to fit in with everyone else, one he wears very well.
But, when it’s just the two of you in his room playing video games or watching TV, he actually relaxes, gets quieter and much more reflective. The pastels and khakis and Hawaiian shirts stay hung up in his closet, both of you lounging in t-shirts and joggers more often than not.
He more or less tutors you in geochemistry, and between that and all the nerd shit in his room, you realize… Mike is kind of extremely smart. And, it’s kind of extremely hot.
“I still don’t understand why you hide it,” you tell him one afternoon as you watch him play Ocarina of Time.
He shrugs, green eyes wide and focused on the screen, gives you the same answer he did last semester when you’d asked a similar question: “People are more interested in other things.”
“So you adopted the obnoxious frat boy persona?”
“I guess. It makes the college experience a lot easier.”
You cock your head to the side, genuinely curious when you ask, “Doesn’t it wear you out? Seems like you’re just an introvert in hiding.”
Mike laughs, pauses the game, and looks at you. “It used to. Some days it still does. But, it’s easier than taking shit from the guys.”
Squinting at him, you mumble, “I will beat up anyone who gives you shit about being a nerd.”
It makes him laugh. Loudly. And, you see a certain curiosity glimmering in his eyes, unasked questions—probably something along the lines of when you started caring and getting protective over him.
You’re not. Not exactly. You just don’t like the idea of anyone giving him a hard time.
“No offense, babe, but I don’t know how much damage you could inflict on anyone. You’re, like, two feet tall.”
You straighten up, chest puffing up as you pull your fists up to your chin and rock back and forth like a Street Fighter character. “You wanna fuckin’ go, Zacharias? I’ll show you how much damage I can inflict.”
He grins in that boyish way that always makes you look away. It’s too cute and too charming and makes you feel too many things.
Mike hangs his long legs over the side of the bed and pulls you on top of him with no problem whatsoever. You’re eye level with him now, heart beating too fast as you hold his shoulders, eyes flicking to his lips.
“We can go if you want. We can do whatever you want.”
He has feelings for you. You know he does, can see it in his eyes, can feel it in the way he fucks you, and you really should cut things off, but… You don’t want to. He’s the most tolerable person you’ve met on campus, much less annoying than Hitch. You have things in common and joke around until you’re both rolling in laughter. And, of course, the sex is incredible.
It’s just casual, you keep telling yourself. Mike is smart enough not to push things. He knows better, knows you’ll just turn him down, and though it’s hard to admit, that wouldn’t just hurt him; it’d hurt you too.
In his lap now, you don’t encourage him to take things further, mostly because you’re still sore from the night before, and he understands that. Instead, you lock your arms around his neck and change the subject to something that’s still bothering you even after several weeks.
“Have you and Erwin made up yet?”
Mike makes a face, answers, “Not exactly.”
 “The hell does that mean?”
“It means we’re talking a little more, but it’s always short conversations and the problem still hasn’t been addressed.”
You let out a little, “Ugh,” then state, “You guys are impossible.”
It really doesn’t make sense that he’s so upset about it, especially since you’ve gotten over it. It was a shitty thing for Erwin to do—walking in like that—but you don’t think it’s anything to end a friendship over.
And, with that thought in mind, you spend the rest of the afternoon devising a plan. It’s not in your nature to meddle, but it seems, in this case, you’re gonna have to.
 *
Mike is in his fancy ecology class when you walk into the Pike house, nodding at everyone in the den as you step further inside. You learned a few months ago that it’s much safer to keep your shoes on, less jarring to step on a sticky floor the first years didn’t do a good job cleaning.
Nile is reclining sideways on the couch with Marie between his legs, an action movie playing on the ridiculously big TV mounted on the wall.
 “Is Erwin here?” You ask.
Nile looks at you with a frown, one that’s completely warranted since you’ve literally never asked this before.
“Uh, yeah.” He points up at the ceiling. “In his room.”
 “Cool, thanks.”
“You know which one it is?”
Squeezing one eye shut, you’re honest when you tell him, “I think so.”
The way Marie is quick to pipe up, “Second furthest to the left, right next to the bathroom,” is very amusing, especially when Nile clicks his tongue, clearly irritated.
You make your way upstairs, following Marie’s directions, then take a deep breath before knocking on Erwin’s door, clueless as to what his lock code might be.
It takes a few seconds, but the door opens, revealing a very tired-looking Erwin. His eyes widen a bit when he sees you, craning his neck back like he’s shocked that you’re standing outside of his room. That’s fair.
 “Uh, hey?”
“Hey,” you greet shortly. “Can we talk for a sec?”
Erwin blinks a few times then steps to the side, murmuring, “Yeah, of course.”
His space is very different from Mike’s, more organized, framed pictures, bed completely made. Even his desk is clean, papers and books all stacked neatly on one side of his open laptop.
 “Studying?” You question.
“Yeah. Would you like to sit down?” His voice is deep—not as deep as Mike’s—and always so proper, like he spent his childhood in country clubs (he did).
“Not really,” you answer without any hesitation.
Unsurprisingly, Erwin leans against his desk instead of taking a seat himself, arms on either side, fingers hanging off the edge of the polished wood. It makes the muscles in his forearms become more prominent, veins popping against his skin. You have to give it to him, it’s a good move.
 “So, what’s going on?”
Running your tongue over your teeth, you recall what you planned to say—cut to the chase, stay firm, don’t get caught up in any of his tricks.
“You need to make up with Mike.”
Erwin immediately snorts. “You don’t think I’ve tried?”
“Half-assed apologies aren’t gonna work, dude. Actually sit down with him and hash things out.”
“Yeeeah,” he drawls. “That didn’t work very well the first time.”
“Maybe try again? You guys are, like, best friends.”
“Levi is my best friend,” Erwin corrects, “And, I’m pretty sure that you’re Mike’s at this point.”
 “Don’t say that.”
 “It’s true,” he smirks.
You wave him off, getting back to your original point. “At the very least, you guys should make up just because you have to live in the same house.”
Erwin crosses his arms over his chest, blue eyes deviating upward as if he’s thinking hard. You doubt he is.
“So, you’re not mad about what happened?” He asks after a few seconds.
You're blunt when you respond, “It was a shitty thing to do. Wouldn’t advise trying it with anyone else, but honestly, I’m not super surprised you’d pull something like that.”
His facial expression turns to one of true offense, blond eyebrows furrowing enough for a little wrinkle to form between them. “Excuse me?”
You take a step toward him, almost jab a finger in his chest but resist. “No no no. You don’t get to be pissed. You’re the one who fucked up here. I’m just telling you the truth.”
Eyes narrowing, he pushes himself off the desk, standing to his full height to loom over you. It’s obviously an intimidation tactic, one he’s probably used before on many people, and it makes your blood boil.
In a futile attempt to make yourself look bigger, you straighten your spine and tilt your head to look up at him, lips pursed, eyes narrow. You remember what Mike said about you being too small to hurt anyone, but you can be scrappy. You’re not above slapping a face or kneeing someone in the balls.
Erwin peers down at you, jaw setting for a moment as he really studies you, then breaks into an infuriating smile.
“You’re cute, you know that?” He moves to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, but you swat his hand away.
“Jesus, what is wrong with you?”
This close to him, seeing the way he acts behind closed doors, you wonder how Mike ever even got close with him. They’re so incredibly different. For the last semester and a half, you've only known Erwin as Mike's somewhat obnoxious, spoiled friend. Now, it seems he's showing his true colors.
“Nothing’s wrong. In fact, I’m feeling pretty great right now.”
Oh, you wanna hit him. You wanna hit him so badly, but honestly, Erwin kind of seems like the type to call the fucking police if you did.
“You don’t have any reason whatsoever to be feeling good.”
He’s still grinning, eyes bright and wide as his pupils dilate.
Are you calling him a predator?
He sure looks like one now, a lion with his sights set on an antelope, and as you stare at him, it dawns on you that this was a bad idea.
“You know what? Nevermind,” you shake your head. “You don’t deserve to be Mike’s friend anyway.”
The laugh that pours from his lips is not at all humorous. His voice drops when he challenges, “You think so?”
You need to leave, need to get out of here before this argument goes any further, but as you make a move toward the closed door, he slides in front of you. You shouldn’t have walked so far into his room.
“Erwin,” you grit through your teeth. “Don’t do this.”
“Just tell me—because I need to know—” he breathes, still staring down at you with that unnerving gaze. “What does Mike have that you like so much?”
Both your hands flex by your sides. There are so many ways to answer this question, all of which will evoke a different response.
But being who you are, you speak before you think, spitting the first thing that comes to mind: "You want me to make you a list, Smith? 'Cause I sure fucking can."
He makes a little circle with his hand, a 'go on' motion, and prompts, "Please, enlighten me."
 And, so you do.
 "Warmth, sincerity, class, depth, understanding—"
"So, it isn't just about the sex," he cuts you off, sounding more sure than curious.
You pinch the bridge of your nose, tired of these god damn frat boys and their obsession with getting their dicks wet.
"I mean, it started out that way—not that it's any of your business."
"I can give you more, you know. Satisfy you better—"
"Please shut the fuck up," you beg, getting madder by the second. The confidence, the entitlement, is making you sick.
"You don't believe me?" He steps toward you again, and you back up.
"No, I don't." Because how could he? Whether it's stimulating conversation or sex, there's no way Erwin could compare.
And now you realize just how much you appreciate Mike.
Erwin is closing the distance between you, moving slowly but purposefully. "This is how it started with you and him, right? You made him chase you?"
"Get out of my way," you demand, trying to shoulder past him—
And, you should have seen it coming, should have been prepared for the way he grabs you, strong hand closing around your upper arm to pull you to his body. Thick fingers tangle in your hair to pull your head back, face tilted up, and all you can really do is shove at his chest with your free hand, growling in your throat as Erwin crushes his lips against yours.
Adrenaline courses through your body. You try to shake the hand on your head, try to jerk your arm from his grip, but he's too fucking strong, and it terrifies you.
Your voice is muffled as you plead, "Er—mmf—shtp—"
You lift your hand higher and manage to hit him just beside his eye with the side of your palm, and it makes him break the "kiss" (you refuse to actually call it that).
He breathes a heavy, "Just let me—"
"No." You push his chest again, and he lets go of your arm. Quickly wiping your mouth with the back of your hand, you tell him, "You're a shitty friend and a little fucked in the head, but you're not low enough to force yourself on someone," you pant, shaking with nerves and rage, "So don't."
Hopefully, you're not giving him too much credit. Despite the overflowing fury and fear, you still think there's a little hope for him. Not with you, of course, just in general.
He stares at you, expression changing from confusion to understanding to regret, and before you know it, he's scrubbing his hands down his face and muttering, "Fuck, I'm sorry. You're right I—I got carried away. I've been jealous of Mike and curious and—"
"Why?" You blurt because you do not get it. "Both of you are, like, top athletes and in a fraternity, could get literally anyone you wanted, so what is it? Is it because I'm a nobody? Because you're bored of the sorority girls? Am I the one chick on your list you haven't screwed?"
 "I… I don't know. You just—"
"Is it because Mike has a toy he doesn't wanna share?"
"Maybe." Erwin is frowning again, like he's stumped. He doesn't even know what he's feeling. It's honestly a little pathetic.
"Well, pick someone else. I know you have Maddie wrapped around your finger, so take advantage of that or whatever. Just leave me out of it."
Ocean eyes are wide and troubled. He really does look remorseful, but that doesn't change what he just fucking did. God, you're disgusted. And a little hurt.
"Don't ever try that shit on me again—or anyone else—'cause I swear to God, I will break your fucking nose."
 "Yeah, okay," he nods.
You go to walk past him again, voice loud and unforgiving when you tell him, "Move," and then you're out of his room, slamming the door, and getting as far from Pike house as possible.
That did not go the way you had planned it to, but you should have been ready for the worst case scenario. That's on you, you guess.
Because Erwin Smith may not be a predator by definition, but he's certainly something—something you want to stay away from.
*
"Why are you acting weird?" Mike's voice pulls you from your empty head, and you take your eyes off the loose string of your hoodie—his hoodie—and look up at him.
"What are you talking about? 'm not acting weird."
He moves from his place at the edge of his bed and crawls to prop himself up next to you on his pillows.
"Uh, yeah you are. Have been for the past week or so."
He isn't wrong. You've kept to yourself a little more since your "conversation" with Erwin. It had just been so uncomfortable and jarring, and you don't want to tell Mike because you know he'll just get pissed all over again which would be very annoying since he and Erwin finally made up. Just like you wanted them to.
Except now you know Erwin a little better, and you're not sure you want him having any more influence over Mike.
Rubbing your face, you shrug and easily lie, "I've just been tired."
And, of course, Mike is too smart for that.
"Tired? That's the go-to answer for anyone who actually feels shitty."
"I mean, yeah, but I'm actually tired in this case." It isn't a complete lie considering how fucking late he kept you up last night.
Mike hums. "Wanna take a nap before the party?"
The acid in your stomach churns. The party. The one you do not have any desire to go to. The one that will push you over the ledge of annoyance and into the realm of genuine discomfort. You don't want to go. You don't want to hang out. You don't want to see Erwin.
Sliding your legs under the covers, you lay down in Mike's bed, turning on your side so that your back is facing him. You've told him on numerous occasions that you don't have any interest in certain events, but he always talks you into going to them anyway. So, what'll be different this time? You're just gonna end up downstairs huddled in a corner refusing to drink as your eyes scan over everyone, ready to make a quick exit if you have to.
Mike settles in closer behind you, the heat of his chest pouring across your back, and you can feel the pillow dip when he rests his head on it. He waits for a while before letting his arm fall over your waist. It makes you squeeze your eyes shut, makes something crawl into your throat, trying to scratch its way out.
"I really don't wanna go tonight," you murmur.
You expect some form of protest, a convincing argument in the form of a well thought out fucking speech while he kisses down the back of your neck, but instead, a low rumble of, "Okay," spills from his mouth, and you hate how it makes you feel—how grateful you are for him.
He's getting to know you. Has gotten to know you after spending so much time together. He can read your ups and downs now, can tell when you're joking or serious, take the hint when you want him with a single look (that one might be the most irritating), but it just goes to show how perceptive he is, how much of himself he's been hiding while in college.
The shallow jock you thought you knew is no comparison for this.
"Spring break's coming up," he speaks into your hair, inhaling deeply and whispering to himself, "Citrus kills me," like you can't hear him.
You pretend not to because it's soft and personal and would probably make him adorably self-conscious, and you can't deal with Mike blushing.
"Yeah, it is. Couple more weeks."
 "What're your plans?"
You shrug against him, trying not to get too wrapped up in the way his body feels over yours, longer legs tangling between yours, his draped hand nearly covering your entire stomach, his stubble scratching your neck and cheek.
When did you get this close? When did you decide it was okay to be this intimate? This is what couples do. This is comfort.
And, you didn't think you needed it, but fuck—
"Nothing, really. Go see Mom, I guess."
"Come stay with me," he says quickly. "Just for a few days."
You wriggle to turn on your back and frown up at him as a myriad of questions fill your mind.
Mike takes a deep breath, somehow reading every one of them.
"I know that sounds like a 'come meet my parents' thing, but I promise it's not. I just thought it'd be cool to hang out not at school and not at a party. Plus," he shows a broad grin. "You can meet Scout."
"Mm, tempting," you laugh. "I do like dogs."
"And, you'll love her! She's so sweet and so goofy and—"
"I'll think about it," you stop him.
Mike bites his lip, looking hopeful, but tries to play it off with a, "Okay, cool," then leans down to kiss you as if you've already said yes.
Honestly, you have, just not out loud. He had you at 'hanging out'.
 *
Studying sucks. Midterms suck. Avoiding parties, however, does not suck. Mike still goes to most of them, kind of has to considering they're usually thrown at the PKA house, but sometimes he just shows his face then comes to your dorm. You try to convince him to stay, hang out with his friends, but he usually just shrugs and digs through your stash of movies until he finds something he wants to watch.
It's fine with you, makes passing geochem a lot fucking easier, but it also means little sleep and a perpetual soreness between your legs.
You just… Can't get enough of each other. And, you think that's how it's always been since that first party. Afterward, you had denied him in the courtyard and then broke as soon as he got into your room to get his stupid shirt. Denied him at the bar then broke as soon as he leaned over you at the pool table. Denied him at the after-game party and broke after… Seeing his room? Watching movies? Acting like friends for the first time? Whatever it is, you're always falling into bed together, some kind of unstoppable force against your obviously very movable object.
It's something you think about too much now, always somewhere in the back of your head. At this point, you should probably just be with him, don't know who you're kidding with that lie about focusing on school (your grades have never been better actually), but you're scared. That's really what's been hard to admit to yourself, not the fact that you're attracted to him or the fact that your irritation has bloomed into genuine fondness and admiration. It's that's you're fucking terrified. You can feel it in your bones.
Don't get too attached because people leave. All the time. People let you down. People disappoint.
You don't want Mike to disappoint you, so you won't give him the chance to.
Of course, all of that is easier said than done as you look over at him in the Wrangler, one huge hand pn the wheel as his other arm hangs out of the open window, catching the wind that batters against it like he's trying to push back. You hate it when he does that, too many horror stories of car crashes that end in traumatic amputations, but it's one of Mike's strange simple pleasures, makes him grin as if it's his head hanging out instead. At his core, Mike Zacharias is just a huge fucking puppy dog.
A dubstep song from too long ago is blasting through his speakers, the vibrations hitting you square in the chest as you bounce your leg and bob your head. It's beautiful outside, winter's bite melting away into sunny springtime days. Some of them still bring a chill to the air, but it doesn't matter since you basically live in one of Mike's hoodies, dark green with the school's lacrosse logo stamped in the middle. It's faded and worn out and far too big on you, but it's quite possibly the most comfortable article of clothing you've acquired.
The drive to his parents' house is a good three hours, but between the playlist he's made (stellar, not that you'd admit it), the road games you play, and the road head you give him ("Oh, Jesus Christ, this isn't safe—this isn't safe—fuck—") you make it there in one piece and in good spirits, though you have take a few drinks of the soda you got at the convenience store to wash the residue of cum out of your mouth before meeting his god damn family.
He grabs both your bags from the backseat, slinging them over his shoulders, then starts up the path to a… surprisingly small home. It isn't a shack by any means, but after what you saw of Erwin's stupid ranch house and some of the pictures and stories Nile and Gelgar have subjected you to, you just kind of figured all of them had ridiculous amounts of money.
Then again, you know Mike got a full ride to college with a sports scholarship, and he rarely talks about his family and their lifestyle aside from Scout and little tales from his childhood—trips to the zoo, the one time he rode a dirt bike and broke his collarbone, he and his dad rescuing an injured bunny from the park.
You should've known back then that you'd get in too deep.
The small garden that lines the house is well-kempt and full of blooming flowers, and the porch is home to a wire table and matching chairs with an unsavory gnome sitting on top.
 "What in the world…"
Mike doesn't even glance to see what you're looking at, just opens the screen door and informs you, "That's Leonidas," so casually that it makes you snort and push him into his own house.
It opens up to a living room, long couch, recliner, coffee table and all. A TV sits right in the middle of a beige entertainment center, DVDs stacked on one side, blu-ray discs on the other. It smells clean—like the lemon wipes you use in your dorm—but even stronger than that is the smell of food.
"Must already be cooking," Mike muses, then calls out in a different fucking language that has you turning to him in confusion.
Before you can ask about it, a plump woman a couple inches taller than you comes rushing out of what you assume to be the kitchen. Her graying hair is tied into a loose bun, cheeks rosy from the heat, and she's still in her apron and a single oven mitt.
 "Miche, γλυκό μου αγόρι!"
She stops in front of him and reaches up to grab his face, peppering it with little kisses and babbling words you do not understand in the slightest.
Mike is laughing, speaking to her in the same fashion, possibly answering questions or defending himself judging by the way he holds his hands up. You think you have an inkling about why when his mother turns to you, puts her hands on your shoulders to look at you, then pulls you into a tight hug.
You squeeze her right back, rocking to and fro as she does, then look up at Mike from the corner of your eyes in a panic.
What do you do, what is happening, what hasn't he told you?
It’s about this time that a large dog runs into the room and actually jumps into Mike’s arms. He grunts as he hoists Scout up, nuzzling into her beautiful coat as she tries to lick his face.
"Mamá, let her get settled first," Mike laughs from where he’s getting attacked. His mother lets go of you, but it’s only for Mike to set the dog back down, and Scout takes the opportunity to sniff and paw at you. “Be nice,” he warns her, pulling you in front of him and pushing you toward the hallway.
That need to snoop around is ever present as you enter his room, but the much more pressing issue is, "You could've prepared me, ya' know. Given me a little heads up that you're…"
"Greek?" He snorts, wiping his face with the bottom of his shirt. "My last name is Zacharias. That's a pretty good indicator."
"I—..." You pause, pout, then mumble, "I'm not a genealogy expert."
 "Obviously not."
He dumps the bags on his bed, a queen size, thank god, because he had told you last week they didn't have a guest room (and had seemed pretty happy about it at the time).
"I'll get mom and dad to speak in English for the next few days."
"I mean," you shake your head. "It's their house. I don't wanna intrude on that. Let 'em do what they're most comfortable with."
He steps over to you, makes his classic move of staring down at you and smoothing his hand over your hair to make you tilt your head up. "That's sweet, but I know they're dying to talk with you, so actually being able to understand what they’re saying is kinda necessary."
Humming, you stand on your tip-toes just as he begins to stoop lower. Before you can meet in a kiss, though, you smirk, "And, just why do they wanna get to know me, Miche? Is that a secret Greek name too?”
He licks his lips, voice husky when he replies, "I've mentioned you a few times--”
“Uh huh,” you smirk, too close for him to actually see.
“And no, I think it’s Hebrew or something.”
You snicker before your mouths meet, breaths grow heavy, and the only time you break apart is so that you can look him in his light eyes and tell him, "By the way, the whole speaking a different language thing you can do?" He grunts, encouraging you to continue. "Very hot."
You feel him smile against you, a self-satisfied, "Yeah?" making you burn against him.
 "Yeah."
It's hard to leave the room, but you both know you have to, hoping neither of you look too kiss-swollen when you walk back into the living room, and when Mike's mom is no longer there, he brings you to the kitchen instead.
"Smells good," he tells her, leaning over the stove and taking a whiff of the prepared dish that’s been set on top--stuffed tomatoes and peppers that make your mouth water.
She says something, and Mike lets her finish before asking, "Can we speak in English while she's here? It's kinda hard to add to a conversation when you, like, don't know what's being said."
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" She immediately gushes, turning to you with a worried look. Her accent is thick and charming, but she doesn't ever stutter, clearly fluent, just more comfortable in her apparently native language. "I just get so caught up when my Miche comes home, I—"
 And, she's hugging you again.
 "I'm Maia! Christopher—Miche's father—should be home soon."
You rub Maia's back until she lets go and turns back to the stove, but even as she does, she's asking you, "How is school? What are you studying? Miche's told me very few things."
He shouldn't have told you anything at all, you want to say.
"Um, it's good. I'm an earth sciences major, geology specifically, so Mike—uh—Miche's been helping me study a lot."
He leans down to speak so only you can hear, "Not necessary to call me that. She's gonna know who you're talking about when you say Mike."
Not that you'll tell him, but you kind of like the way 'Miche' feels, the way it rolls from your lips to the back of your mouth, and for just one second, you think about how you'd like to moan it in his ear.
"So, uh," you shake your head in an attempt to get it back on straight. "Yeah, it's going good, I think."
"It is nice that you study together," Maia hums, slicing into the dish to portion it out. "Miche probably enjoys the break from his fraternity life."
Mike makes an unsure noise, but you grin and lean on the counter, eyes shining as you look at the middle-aged woman, "You know, speaking of that, I need to know what he was like before the whole frat thing 'cause—"
"Uhh, we don't need to talk about that," Mike quickly cuts you off.
Maia, however, catches your eye and winks, a silent promise that she'll fill you in later.
Mike sees it, whines a dramatic, "Mamá, please."
You laugh, glancing over at him with a devious smile that makes him roll his eyes and grumble something.
The creak of a door opening followed by the sound of a screen slamming back against the frame signals the arrival of Mike's father. It takes him a couple minutes to join everyone in the kitchen, probably taking the time to get more comfortable after what you assume to be a long day.
When he does walk in, once styled hair fallen out of place, top two buttons of his shirt undone, you see exactly where Mike gets most of his looks. He may have gotten his fucking mane from his mother, but he definitely got his height and his eyes from his father.
"Oh!" He stops short when he sees you, looks at his wife, then at you, then at Mike. "Is this the girl?"
 "Dad!"
Both of his parents snicker as he turns to you, pleading more than telling, "Just ignore them, they don't know what they're talking about."
You don't pay him any mind, join in on the fun when you lift an eyebrow and tease, "Am I, Mike? Am I the girl?"
"Oh my god, this is gonna be a nightmare," he groans, the tips of his ears growing red. Still, he tries to put on a stern face as he points at his parents, speaks in beautiful, rolling words that are beyond you, then turns his flashing gaze to you and commands, "And you, don't encourage them."
"Mm, no promises." You stick the tip of your tongue between your teeth and wink at his mom the way she had at you earlier.
All of you sit at an actual table for dinner, something you haven't done in at least a decade, as you talk and laugh between bites of food. Scout is laying underneath, waiting for someone to drop a piece of food, and every once in a while, you feel her wet nose nudge against your calf.
Maia and Chris are very kind and very funny, and it isn't just because they pick on their son all the time. Chris talks about his day in the office, complaining about coworkers the same way Mike complains about his brothers—"I just don't understand why you would eat sardines in the break room! Someone explain it to me!" Maia tells everyone about the three hour phone call with her mother—"My god that woman can talk. Every time we said goodbye, she would just start on something new!"
"Explains where you get it from," Chris says with a chuckle.
Maia scoffs then stabs a piece of his food with her fork, eating it with purpose as her husband watches.
You lean over to Mike and murmur, "They're cute. I like 'em."
He grunts. "That makes one of us."
Sucking your teeth, you mimic his mother's actions and dig your fork into the meat of his pepper, stealing a bite and scraping your teeth over the utensil in a way you know drives him crazy.
You immediately regret it when you realize how big the piece is, filling your mouth so that it's hard to chew, and you grab a napkin to cover yourself while Mike snorts and smugly says, "Yeah, bet you feel real smart right now. How does thievery taste?"
Shoving his arm, you manage to swallow down enough of the food to talk and tell him, "Tastes delicious."
When you look back across the table, you find Maia and Chris staring at you and Mike with shining eyes and matching grins.
*
You get along well with Mike's parents. A little too well in his opinion. There are a couple mornings you wake up earlier than he does and share coffee with his mother. He'll walk in to hear her sharing terrible stories about how, "He was such a sensitive little boy," and, "I miss the days he and his friends would spend afternoons here playing their little games."
She even breaks out the photo albums one evening after dinner, leaving Mike mortified as you laugh and 'aww' at the pictures of past birthdays, Boy Scout outings, and the horrors of middle and high school.
"Look how cute you are with braces!"
 "Please stop."
"All dressed up for Easter, oh my god, are those bunny ears?"
 "Mom made me."
"You were so skinny. What happened?"
 "Are you calling me fat?"
"No, I'm calling you buff. Dummy."
Less embarrassing are the long walks the two of you take with Scout (who also loves you, of course). She stays close to your hip as you wander around the park, only leaving your side when you throw her favorite ball. At the house, she noses at you until you shift to let her lay either at your feet or on the couch with her big head in your lap.
It's the cutest fucking thing Mike has ever seen, and he hates it because he can't do anything about it. He can't tell you how much he likes seeing you walk around in his house. He can't tell you how much joy it brings him to hear your laugh ring out alongside his parents'. He can't tell you how much he loves seeing you slide into his old bed in nothing but one of his shirts, making yourself comfortable against his chest and weaving your legs between his.
He can't tell you, but he can do his best to show you.
Late at night when his parents are asleep, when the buzzing TV is the only thing lighting the room, Mike moves inside of you with deep, slow thrusts. He hikes your legs up to lock around his waist or pulls you up against himself if he's taking you from behind. No matter the position, it leaves you clawing at him, breathing heavily, jaw dropping open in a silent scream.
You feel so good, so tight around him even after he gets you ready for his cock. Your silken walls squeeze and milk him, pulling every drop of cum from him to soak into you. Fuck, he's so glad you're letting him do that now, fill you up until you can't take any more, until white is dribbling from your messy pussy. The way you look at him all fucked out is intoxicating, eyes droopy, smile lazy, body twitching with aftershocks as he sucks on your neck and kisses down your shoulders.
You have to know. You have to. Mike knows his feelings are written all over his face when he looks at you, may as well be carved into his skin. The words are on the tip of his tongue every night, but he muffles them with kisses, with burying his face between your legs, with sinking his teeth into your soft flesh.
He can't say it because saying it makes it real. Saying it will make it hurt more.
So Mike keeps his mouth shut, watches you every day as you converse with his parents and play with Scout. You poke around his bedroom in your usual nosy fashion, finding the rest of his Magic cards, old D&D books and privacy screens. The dusty record player he'd inherited from his grandfather interests you above all else, vinyls stacked around it, some old, some new, and as you flip through them now, cross-legged on the floor and swimming in his hoodie, you tell him the little things you talked about with his mom earlier in the day.
"She showed me your baby teeth," you say with a snort. "Why do parents keep those? My mom did too."
"Black Magic, obviously," Mike says seriously, but when you glance up at him, he chuckles. "I don't know, babe. It's fuckin' weird, though."
You grin and look back down at The Alan Parsons Project vinyl in your lap. You're quiet for a moment, but when you do speak up, it's in a quiet voice. "I'm pretty sure they think I'm your girlfriend."
Mike cringes on the bed, shutting his eyes and sighing. "Yeah, that's probably 'cause I told them you were."
"What?" You turn your whole body to face him, eyes wide and incredulous.
Sitting up, Mike holds his hands out and questions, "What was I supposed to tell them? Hey, mom and dad, I'm bringing home this girl I fuck at school all the time."
"We don't just fuck," you scoff. "You could've said friend or… Study buddy."
"Study buddies with benefits," he lets out a humorless laugh. "How many of those study sessions end with your mouth around my cock?"
"That's beside the point." You stand up and walk over to the bed, hands on your hips as you glare at him in an unconvincing manner. You're not actually upset, Mike realizes. A little annoyed maybe but more surprised than anything. "The point is they expect us to do couple-y things."
"We do do couple-y things." Mike reminds you, rolling his eyes when you snicker and murmur 'ha, do do'. "Oh my god, you're a dork."
"So are you. And, a dumb one. What happens when they find out we're not actually together? Are we gonna have to stage a break up somewhere down the line?"
"Stop worrying about it," Mike tries, reaching out for one of your arms to pull you on top of him. You must be very used to straddling him at this point. It seems like you're in his lap more often than you're not these days, even if the two of you are just talking. "Just chill and fake it for a little while longer."
You pout, glancing to the wall for a second before you mutter, "Might be tough. I've never had to fake anything for you before."
Mike groans and traces his fingers up your sides, stopping at your shoulders and using them to guide you closer to him. With your face only millimeters from his, he barely even has to whisper when he presses, "Fake it just this once."
You nod, lips brushing his, and from there you both devolve into sloppy kisses and desperate hands. As always.

Live Laugh Love~ Georgie Cooper x Reader
Poker, Faith, and Eggs
Summary: Sheldon's faith is shaken when his dad goes to the hospital.
Narrator's POV
Today felt like any other day for the Coopers. Missy would be doing what any little girl would be doing, and that was dressing up while rocking out to her favorite song. You could find Y/N and Georgie trying to one-up each other's trick shots while throwing firecrackers. And last but not least you could find Sheldon playing cards with Meemaw. There was one reason today wasn't like most, and that's because of one hospital visit.
Y/N'S POV
Yesterday Night
"Hey Georgie," I called out before I did the splits in the air and throwing the firecracker. Georgie watched in amazement, but when I turned to him he looked as if he wasn't impressed. "How did that song go again? 'Anything you can do, I can do better," Georgie told me. Georgie tried to do the move I did, but it didn't turn out the way he had hoped. I laughed and said, "I think you should stick to football. I'm gonna go get a drink." As I walked in I heard a "Yeah, okay".
I walk back into the house and see Sheldon and Meemaw playing cards. "Hi, Meemaw. Hi, Sheldon." They both said hello back then continued their game. I grab myself a glass of water and decide to watch the two play their game.
"I bet a nickel," Sheldon said after flinching from hearing a firecracker. "Are they really that scared of the firecrackers?" I thought inside my head still watching them play. MeeMaw stops the game to teach Sheldon what a poker face is. I don't think Sheldon understood because he still thought that Meemaw had bad cards, which led Sheldon to decide to not fold. MeeMaw ended up winning.
I smiled and shook my head. Sheldon was upset about his loss. I went over to Sheldon and gave him a side hug before saying, "Don't feel bad, Sheldon. I just beat your brother in a trick-shot battle. Sorry if the sounds scared you." MeeMaw congratulated me and Sheldon said, "Really? You guys had us jumping in our seat with that battle, AND he's still going." "I know. I'm sorry," I told Sheldon while messing up his hair. Sheldon fixed his hair, and then Mary walked into the house.
"Mom I'm home. What's he doing up?" Mary asked walking into the kitchen. Meemaw replies with "losing" when another firecracker goes off. Everyone jumps but me, leaving a smirk on my face. George goes to check it out. "Wrong timing dude," I said to myself, holding my head down. Before George makes it out the door Meemaw says, "I sent Georgie and Y/N on a beer run, and tipped them with firecrackers." Mary and George look at me, and I just look away.
Missy scared me when she ran down the stairs yelling, "I ATE SO MUCH CANDY!". Meemaw takes the silence and looks from Mary as a sign to leave. As Meemaw leaves, Georgie pops another firecracker. Everyone but me again jumps, making me laugh. Mary gives me an angry look, which makes me laugh harder.

Present Day
Meemaw, Missy, Sheldon, Mary, and I were all at church.  Pastor Jeff explains to the church how he knows there is a god. When Pastor Jeff said that his logic of if there is a god was math, Sheldon and I cringed so hard. Mary was listening and loving everything she was hearing.

(Y/N's Church Dress)
I knew something was going to happen between Pastor Jeff and Sheldon, and I was right. Sheldon raises his hand and says, "that's wrong." Mary tries to keep the attention off of her family, but Pastor Jeff reassures her. "Sheldon, is it? Why don't you come on up here and tell me how I'm wrong," Pastor Jeff tells Sheldon. Everyone was still looking at us. I was holding in my laugh, and Mary elbowed me.
Everyone in the family knew how Sheldon gets when he proves people wrong, which left a concerned face on both Mary and Meemaw. Missy woke up from her nap, just as Sheldon walked past her. Sheldon sits with Pastor Jeff and tells him how he has mixed up possibilities with probabilities. Meemaw and I watch and comment to each other about how their conversation would go. MeeMaw was my second favorite "Cooper" family member, but she was super close to Georgie in the Cooper family battle. Sheldon looked defeated on that battle against the pastor, but I knew with all my heart that that would not be the last time we have a Sheldon V.S. Pastor Jeff battle.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Georgie and I were in the backyard, on the swing set. We laughed and had a nice conversation. "I saw some of your practice today," Georgie said as we calmed down from our laugh. I quickly responded to Georgie with a smile, "Yeah, was I good?" Georgie smiled and looked at me before saying, "Well, I don't know much about cheerleading, but you looked good when you did that backflip."
I don't think Georgie meant I looked good the way I thought he meant I looked good. I just turned my head towards the boy, and both of our faces were close together. We stared at each other for about a minute before Georgie broke the silence, "I also saw Sarah fall, which was pretty funny." I looked away, laughing with a slight blush on my cheeks. "I think we should go inside," I say quickly, trying to help release the tension. "Yeah"
We walked into the house, and the tension was instantly higher than outside. Georgie sees Meemaw and asks what's going on. Missy just comes right out and says, "Dad's in the hospital." Georgie and I look at each other with a concerned look. "Why is George in the hospital?" I asked turning back to the trio. Meemaw says he's gonna be fine, but Sheldon interrupts saying, George had chest pains. Georgie fights Meemaw on going to the hospital, Meemaw says he'll be fine.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All of us kids are sitting on the couch while MeeMaw checked the fridge for something. The phone rang, and Meemaw quickly answered it. I wasn't as scared for George as Georgie was. It's not because I don't care, but because I knew George. George is strong, and he would fight to be with his family.
The person I was worried about was Georgie. Georgie was always close with his father. I know with all my heart that Georgie will do anything in his power to make sure his father was okay. The best I can do is comfort him during this troubling time. I don't know much from when I was three, but I know from the stories told, that Georgie helped me when my parents died.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11 years ago
Narrator's POV
Y/N and the Coopers were at Y/N's Parents' funeral. For a 3-year-old, Y/N was the saddest person in the whole building. The priest asked if there were any last words, and Y/N raised her hand. Everyone was shocked because the 3-year-old could barely talk. How could she say goodbye to her parents forever?
"Mommy, daddy, I know you are here. It kinda like hide and seek, except I stay here and you watch and protect me. I will miss you, but this isn't goodbye." The little girl said. Everyone felt bad that the girl knew what was happening.
Bedtime
Y/N and Georgie laid on their beds, which were in Georgie's room. Mary tucked Georgie in before making her way to Y/N's bed. Mary teared up seeing the girl. "You are so strong. And you're smart. You amazed everyone with your speech to your parents. I know you don't see it, but they are looking over you, and god is also," Mary said to the grieving toddler. Y/N looks at the woman and says, "Well, my mommy told me, on the day my grandma died, that she was looking after me."
Georgie was watching the whole interaction between his mom and new friend. When Mary walked out of the room after turning out the lights, Georgie jumped up from his bed and laid next to his soon-to-be best friend. He gave her a hug and held her until she fell asleep, with him soon following. That was the first time the two ever laid together when one was upset.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Present Day
The four kids stood around a counter, waiting on news about their father. Sheldon breaks the silence, "What'd she say?" Connie tells the kids that the doctors are running some tests, but George would most likely be okay. Connie tells Missy and Sheldon to go get ready for bed, and Georgie continues to fight Connie on seeing his father. After the fight, Y/N follows Georgie to his room.
Y/N's POV
"Your father will be okay," I say sitting on Georgie's bed, trying to calm him down, but he continues to pace. "Are you gonna talk to me? We always talk to each other when we're upset." I don't get a response, but I do hear him mumbling. "What are you mumbling about?" Georgie just walks out of the room. I follow him out, rolling my eyes, and he turns and shhhs' me. Georgie walks up to Sheldon and Missy and asks them if they want to come with him to see their father.
We sneak out the back to get Meemaw's keys. Georgie shhs' me, I do it to Sheldon, and Sheldon does it to Missy. "Who do I shh?" We all turn back to Missy and shhh her. We continue to sneak, and I see that she fell asleep with a cigarette in her hand. 'That's not safe.' I thought. Georgie quickly grabs Meemaw's keys. Sheldon and Georgie have a quick argument, then we head out.
Missy heads for the front seat when I come behind her and tell her to beat it. Missy rolls her eyes and gets into the backseat. When I get in, I immediately go to turn on the radio. "What are you doing?" Georgie asked, stressed from worrying about his father. "I thought music would lighten the mood. Also, I know how you drive, and we need something to kill time." Georgie rolls his eyes and tells me to turn it off. Missy watches the two and says, "Could you guys stop acting like a married couple, and get this car moving?" Georgie and I look at each other once again, before we turn away blushing. We all buckle up, which I don't think Sheldon needs. The boy looks like a human punching bag.
Georgie drives worse than I thought. We hit several curbs and trashcans before I tell Georgie to stop the car. "Do you even know how to get to the hospital?" Missy asks Georgie. "Yeah, it's across from the Dairy Queen," Georgie answers Missy. "Nope, get out," I say, getting out of the car. "What are you doing?" "Switching spots with you. Now, get out." Georgie gets out also, and switches with me. I start driving and the ride is much smoother than when Georgie drove.
We see an ambulance, and I speed up and follow it. "Why are you following an ambulance?" Georgie asked me. "How are we friends? Ambulance equals hospital. Hospital equals your father." Georgie thinks about it and says an extended "Oh".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mom," Sheldon yells, running to his mother. "Meemaw, there you are. We looked back and didn't see you in the hallway. We were basically lost," I said, gaining a knowing look from Meemaw. We all let Mary know that we want to see George. Mary questions why we're here, but Meemaw used a bluff.
"Georgie, hand me my keys," Meemaw says with her hand out. "Actually, I have them. By the way, If there are any dents, Georgie switched halfway through," I say. Meemaw then explains to us, that if we want the benefits of her watching us, then we can't tell, Mary about any of this. We all agree with Meemaw.
Georgie and I sit down. Georgie and I use each other as pillows, with my head on his shoulder, and his head on my head. "Your father will be okay. He's strong, and so is his son," I reassured Georgie. "Yeah, thanks" I see Sheldon and immediately take him under my arm and let him rest. I fall asleep right after him.
I wake up to Mary saying George will be fine. She then invites us to see George. Georgie walk to the hospital room with both of us in a side hug.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Narrator's POV
The Coopers were ALL at church again, and Pastor Jeff and Sheldon were back at it again. Y/N and Georgie were cracking up. "This is what you miss every week," I say to Georgie. Mary and George come to the conclusion, that faking a heart attack could get them out of the argument. So, that's what they did. Y/N was disappointed that they didn't get to finish their argument, but she got more time with her family, and that is what matters.

Alright let’s talk GVK spoilers!!!
My reactions as best I can remember them!
- love how Kong is humanized from the very first scene, like every time he shows up he’s humanized so much more than other titans are. If that was at the expense of other titans being made likable I wouldn’t enjoy it so much, but like, Godzilla is made pretty lovable over the course of Monsterverse, Mothra is too, and all the titans featured for long are given recognizable emotions that let us see them as more intelligent and feeling than “just” animals; so all of them are made understandable/likable/sympathetic. But of them all, Kong is the only one really humanized. Which makes sense, because like, big monkey! Basically our distant cousin!
- And they kept playing, like, normal songs for him, which cracked me up.
- I really appreciated how you could SEE the titans in this movie. After all the weather effects to hide the titans in KOTM, there was such a clear difference in this one from the very start. Kong in the daylight! Godzilla makes his first attack at night, and even then you can see him much more clearly than you can for most of KOTM! Nice!
- after the Iwi were portrayed as silent stoic witnesses in Skull Island, I really appreciated that they took an Iwi character, made her a main character, and gave her dialogue and a real role to play in the story while also keeping her deaf/mute. I think that was a good way to improve on the way that the Iwi got got sidelined in the last movie while still maintaining the worldbuilding!
- I didn’t appreciate so much that, y’know, they murdered the rest of her people off-screen in order to do it. Couldn’t they have gone “her parents died so she got adopted by a Monarch agent that was close to her family, but like, the rest of her tribe is fine”? Or at the very least “their island got fucked up so they had to be evacuated but like they’re settling in somewhere else”? “They’re living under this island dome with Kong and they know what’s up and Monarch’s keeping them in the loop and they decided they’re chill with their new dome home, but this one girl likes to go on adventures with Monarch”? Something? Did we have to kill them all off? Y’all make up an entire fictional indigenous culture and then murder them off-screen when you don’t need them? Just let them live.
- a few minutes in I was like “hold on, we’ve got two characters that speak sign language, we’ve got a giant gorilla, gorillas learn sign language, is there any reason they can’t teach Kong?” and then later I was like “OOOOOH!!” Humans and titans learning how to communicate with each other has been one of my favorite themes to explore in Monsterverse fanfic so I was absolutely tickled to see it getting explored in canon, too.
- That said I think it’s hilarious that the girl managed to teach Kong to sign without, like... anybody seeing. Kong’s hands are above the tree line and there are cameras everywhere, how did NOBODY with Monarch see him signing.
- Bernie’s weaponized being an annoying coworker to such a degree it can only be called an art, and I really appreciated it.
- Godzilla’s extra chonky in this movie and I dig it. Roomie noted he was extra crocodilian and I dig that too.
- “There’s been no confirmed titan sightings in three years” I don’t buy that for a minute. They’re BIG. Rodan NESTS IN VOLCANOES. They found a MOTHRA EGG. Humans have A SCARILY WELL-FUNDED ORGANIZATION DEDICATED SOLELY TO FOLLOWING TITANS AROUND. Like, most of the lore in GVK that I don’t personally like, I can be like “eh... I can tweak it just a little bit with headcanons to make it work for me...” but NO confirmed titan sightings? You expect me to believe ALL of them moved underground when we’d previously seen them all prefer to live above ground? You expect me to believe that now that they’re all AWAKE, they learned how to HIDE?? Uh-uh. And at the end of KOTM there was stuff in the credits about using titan droppings as biofuel, obviously they’re still walking around up top! Can’t take that from me. Nope.
- Who the FUCK is Ren Serizawa and how is he related to Ishiro Serizawa? IS he related? Maybe they just dropped the surname as another “yeah this is a Godzilla movie for Godzilla fans” easter egg but I have a hard time believing that he can’t be somehow related to the other character with the Very Important Last Name who was so important in the last two Godzilla movies. If he is related I’m sure it’s been explained in a tie-in comic or the novelization or something, I’ll look it up later.
- I had to look up how much weight huge battleships can carry while writing a KOTM fic where Ghidorah hitches a ride on one, and y’all, I had to pull weird gravity-negating magic to get him to ride on that boat. Godzilla and Kong woulda sunk that boat like a rock. All I could think during that scene is “this wouldn’t work and I know that because I DID THE RESEARCH and I wasn’t even getting PAID.” I’ll choose to believe that Monarch gets special heavy duty ships designed to carry titans but nobody mentioned it because it wasn’t relevant to Kong’s journey.
- The bit where they could see where Godzilla was swimming because he’d got half a ship hooked to him that was bobbing around on the surface, didn’t Jaws do something like that with a buoy? It’s been ages since I’ve seen Jaws. Anyway good reference.
- Insert “they’re gonna need a bigger boat” joke
- I LOVED the part where they shut down all the ships to get Godzilla to leave. Both because, one, it’s a spectacular callback to KOTM’s “turn off all the guns so he knows we’re not a threat” that makes it seem like now that’s just what Monarch knows what to do to get G to chill out, and two... we know that Godzilla backs off either when he’s killed his enemy or when his enemy has yielded to him. At the end of KOTM—and the end of GVK—the act of yielding is presented as very ceremonial and uniform across species: everyone lowers anything they’ve got that could be dangerous (claws, fangs, beaks, axes) and bows to show Godzilla they’re not gonna fight. Battleships, obviously, can’t bow, but even without being inducted into whatever secret titan cultural intricacies might be going on, humans have figured out their own way to “bow” to Godzilla: cut all the power, so their ships can’t move and can’t use weapons. I know the movie presented it as “playing dead,” but c’mon, if Godzilla could hear MechaG power up from halfway around the planet then he could hear that Kong’s heart was still beating, and he’s been around enough boats to know humans can turn them off and on when they want. The humans bowed to Godzilla. He accepted that they yielded and left.
- Mark Russell looked like such a dad in this movie, like he’s retired 100% from being a rugged action hero and now he’s just Pure Dad. I like him better when he’s a dad, it’s a good development for him. He got like 3 lines and I’m like “I appreciate this character development.”
- Despite all my qualms about how conspiracy theories and extremist groups are handled in Monsterverse (and WHICH conspiracy theories they decide to reference), I really love Madison and Bernie’s dynamic. The adult man who’s the excitable wide-eyed believer in every BS conspiracy you can possibly imagine; and then the serious, severe Teenage Girl On A Mission who’s hypercompetent because she was raised for five years by a friggin doomsday cult militia; and despite having wildly different personalities they’re just, in total agreement about everything. Handled just a BIT differently (like, leaving out the more gross IRL conspiracies) they would be a wildly fun comedic duo—especially with Josh the Only Sane Man coming along as the hapless sidekick. And they all play off of each other so well! Both in a comedic sense, and in more serious moments—when Bernie talked about his wife, there was a real moment of empathy between him and Madison with very little said. I’d watch an entire movie just about the three of them. I’d watch a TV show.
- On the one hand I wasn’t too much of a fan of KOTM’s “all titans... are inherently In Tune With Nature... nature has a Balance, because that’s a Real Thing and not an anthropocentric concept to describe how we like nature to act, and they automatically restore it... because they’re like, some kinda borderline divinities or something... we should probably be worshipping them...” thing; but, now that it was totally absent in GVK, I sorta miss it. Like I feel like there needs to be a balance, a few humans who are like “i lowkey worship these dudes?” and a few others who are like “they’re cool but like, that’s a lil extreme” and that neither side be presented as Right in how they regard titans’ relationship with nature.
- “All titans come from THE HOLLOW EARTH” nah I don’t buy that it’s silly. Basically, what I object to is the idea that all titans have some sort of intrinsic similarity (they all come from the same hitherto-unknown location; they all are part of the same pack that has the same alpha; they all are fueled/fed by the same energy source; etc) rather than letting them be SEPARATE species whose only unifying traits are “they’re all big enough to fuck everything up everywhere they go” and “they’re big enough that the typically-insurmountable barriers between different biomes (mountain ranges, valleys, long distances with terrible weather) aren’t insurmountable for them, so even if they’re specialized in different environments they still all have to deal with each other pretty often.” I’ll make some exceptions for convergent evolution (i.e., claiming multiple titans developed similar traits that are relatively easy to spontaneously evolve and a prerequisite for a creature to survive at such a large size). But I can’t buy “this big gorilla has more biologically in common with this big crocodile-iguana than he does with, say, gorillas,” or most of the other “all these titans have THIS IN COMMON” claims that Monsterverse makes, including “everyone’s from hollow earth.” So I’m tossing that out the window and substituting my own headcanons. Some might’ve evolved there but some evolved on the surface. Maybe a majority of them like ducking in and out of the hollow earth like some kind of titan shortcut system. Kong’s species, I can buy, IS native to hollow earth, considering that they built a whole-ass society down there with tools and architecture.
- I’m SO curious about the little underground Kong home, the Godzilla motif in the floor, and the axe that appeared to be made with a Godzilla scute. What’s the story there??? We know Godzilla’s species and Kong’s species are ancient rivals. Is it because Kong’s species hunted Godzilla’s to steal their scutes to make weapons, seeing them as a valuable resource the way, like, early humans considered woolly mammoths a valuable resource—thus making that Godzilla on the floor equivalent to cave art of mammoths made by people who hunted them—until the Godzillas got pissed and started fighting back en masse? Or were Godzillas and Kongs already enemies when Kongs decided to start making weapons out of their corpses? Did they use to be allies, fighting together, with Godzillas voluntarily offering shed scutes and/or bones of their deceased members to Kongs, and that place used to be a shared home until they started fighting?
- What about that power source, is it something that was already there that both Kongs and Godzillas started to deliberately harvest for technology/atomic breath? Or did Godzillas automatically channel that stuff and Kongs exploited/borrowed/traded with Godzillas to utilize it too? Or is the power from Godzillas who collaboratively poured a bunch of power into the place thus that Kongs were able to use it too? I doubt Godzilla’s species CREATED all that weird energy but the question remains of whether, like, they channel it FROM underground, or naturally produce the same thing in their own bodies, or what.
- Godzilla using his atomic breath to dig a hole STRAIGHT TO KONG just to KICK HIS ASS is hilarious. How lucky that Hong Kong just HAPPENS to be straight over Kong’s house! Were all the tunnels to the hollow earth made by pissed off Godzillas who wanted to kick monkey ass??
- I loved the aesthetic of the battle scene in Hong Kong, with the brightly colored neon building outlines, VERY cool look. The choreography of the battle scene was great too, especially
- we literally broke into applause when Kong shoved the axe handle in Godzilla’s mouth. Love it, perfect callback, that was the ONE thing from the original King Kong Vs Godzilla I was hoping to see referenced and there it was.
- You could really see a difference in how Kong and Godzilla fought—Kong doing a better job at using tools and the environment, Godzilla fighting more like a reptile. They seemed to emphasize Godzilla’s more animalistic behaviors in this movie to accomplish that contrast—he was down on all fours and moving like a crocodile more often, he was clawing at Kong’s chest—but even though it seemed a bit different of a combat technique it also didn’t seem out of place compared to how he fought in prior movies. And we’ve already seen that if Godzilla’s involved in a fight and one of the combatants knows how to use the environment, it’s typically not gonna be Godzilla. (See: Ghidorah using the reflection in a building’s windows to see what’s behind him, and recognizing a nearby power source and biting it to juice himself up.)
- So many of Godzilla’s enemies seem to have specialized in negating his atomic breath in order to combat him! The MUTOs directly suppress his ability to use it—and it makes sense that that’s an inborn ability they have, since they evolved to use Godzilla’s species as prey. Kong has a weapon that both acts as a shield to absorb the breath and turn it back against Godzilla’s species—they didn’t evolve to counter Godzilla, but they developed tools once a rivalry happened. Ghidorah’s the exception—which makes sense, since he came from space—but even at that we see him using tactics specifically to take into account Godzilla’s most powerful weapon (such as keeping one head on lookout for when he starts glowing so that they know when they need to dodge).
- LOVED the reveal that MechaG was based off of Ghidorah’s brain, it has vibes of both the Kiryu Saga and the way that Heisei MechaG is based off of Mecha-King Ghidorah. Not the most surprising plot twist, since we’d theorized that they might use San to make MechaG, but I wasn’t 100% sure they were gonna go with it until they finally did. Even when I was going “huh, the mecha pilot’s chamber looks weirdly organic” I didn’t make the connection to WHY until the reveal, lol.
- “Ghidorah’s necks are so long that the heads have to communicate with each other telepathically” that’s COMPLETELY WILD but I love it, it follows very well from their prior portrayal as telepathic empaths in Heisei, it lines up with their emphasis on electricity (because BRAINWAVES AND ELECTRICITY, hey ho movie monster pseudo science!), and it very much compliments my own private headcanon that they’ve got some psychic/mind control abilities.
- The movie ended with both “Godzilla won, technically” but also “since they teamed up as equals, the ending doesn’t FEEL like ‘Godzilla wins, Kong loses’ but rather ‘they both won against a common foe’ and since I’m on both Team Godzilla and Team They Should Be Friends, I’m happy with this outcome. Plus since the last time they fought, the Japanese movie company graciously let the American monster win, so it’s only polite that the American movie company graciously let the Japanese monster win.
- There were just a few too many humans in this movie. I was intrigued by Ren but we didn’t get much out of him, but like I guess somebody had to be in the pilot’s seat other than the Apex CEO. Didn’t care for the author of the hollow earth book, I feel like his role was superfluous. Didn’t need the Apex CEO’s daughter there at all, coulda done without her. How about this, combine all three roles. Instead of having a whole-ass author who knows about the hollow earth, just casually reference that Rick from KOTM wrote a book about it since he was the expert, and (since he wasn’t in this movie) say that he tragically died going to explore the hollow earth himself, and that way we’ve got the book with the “titans are from there” theory AND an excuse to share the “humans die when they go underground” info. Now, have Ren be working for Apex as a pilot for Mechagodzilla, but have him be MechaG’s pilot because he’s also a good pilot in general, and can fly those HEAV things. Have Apex send him to Monarch to be like “hey, you guys trust me right, since I’m Ishiro Serizawa’s relative? We at Apex have heard all about your failed hollow earth expedition, and due to Ishiro I’ve got some past ties to Monarch so I’ve got high clearance with y’all, so I could bring over this useful Apex tech that’d let you go underground and use what I know about hollow earth from my past time at Monarch to help guide things.” Once they’ve got the little chunk of energy stuff and go topside, he hustles it straight to Apex and straps into his seat to run MechaG. Bam, you’ve combined “person who knows enough about hollow earth to help the expedition,” “person who represents Apex’s interests and gets the energy,” and “person who pilots MechaG” into one character, in a way that takes three flat/underdeveloped characters and turns them into a single interesting character with a lot going on and some intriguing ties to the rest of the cast.
I think that’s everything?? Hoo.
