Mason gives Vesker a job. And for the first time in the history of his time on the job, Vesker refuses.

“Ah, Vesker,” Mason remarked as Vesker walked up to his desk, “It took you long enough. Was this close to going down there and finding you myself.”

Vesker snickered, standing with his feet parted at the edge of Mason’s desk, his arms crossed over his chest. The sun coming through the large window behind Mason’s desk illuminated his mask as he tilted his head slightly. “So, what’s the deal?”

“$800,000” Mason responded, eliciting a whistle from Vesker.

“This must be a pretty important hit.”

“Mhm, you’ll need the incentive” Mason responded, before taking a folder from his desk and sliding it over the desk. “I need you to kill this man.”

Vesker leant on the desk as he opened the folder. His eyes slowly grew wider as he stared down at the photo on the file.

Rayan Hyacinth. His lover.

“…Mason.” Vesker said firmly, looking up at his boss. “…This is my fiancé.”

“And?”

Vesker scoffed, slamming the folder shut and standing up straight. “And? I’m not going to kill my fiancé.” He said with an incredulous look. “I- are you insane? Fucking “And”?? Are you serious???”

“I’m as serious as I’ve always been” Mason responded, not even a flicker of change in his set eyes. “It’s an 800K deal, you’re gonna turn it down just over some diamond ring relation?”

“It’s not “some diamond ring relation”, damnit!” Vesker roared, slamming his hands down on the desk. “It’s my fucking beloved!”

“I don’t care. This is a mafia. There’s no room for sappy feelings.”

Vesker sneered, sliding the file back over the desk. “Sorry, boss, but my answer is no.”

Suddenly, a change. Mason’s eyes narrowed, slowly sitting up straight. “Vesker-“

“Not listeninggg” Vesker said as he turned and crossed the office in long, purposeful strides. “I’m not killing Rayan. No amount of money is going to make me shoot him.”

“Vesker-“ Mason began as he stood from his chair, but the office door had slammed shut before he could finish. He let out an aggravated sigh, sitting back down. “…Should’ve seen this coming.”
