So I’m still breaking down my thoughts, and something I keep returning to re: the politics of the Gliyeraba Thropple™ is the multifaceted question of class and power.

While Glinda is the epitome of privilege and the “rich girl” archetype, Fiyero AND Elphaba arguably start the show with more power and influence than Glinda does. Fiyero, of course, is the prince of the Vinkus—but Elphaba is notably the daughter of the governor of Munchkinland, which puts them nearer in terms of political/royal/class standing (and yes…the arranged marriage AUs DO go hard).

Now, the reason this is all so interesting is because it situates Glinda as someone with a huge outset motivation to social climb. Because while Elphaba clearly doesn’t have actual power, she and Fiyero share one thing that Glinda doesn’t have—a position that has them primed for disillusionment. Although Elphaba clearly still believes that it gets better at the top (a.k.a. the Wizard), she already has a lifetime of experiencing how hypocritical and loveless life in the "aristocracy" can be. Meanwhile, Fiyero’s very introduction is one of a depressed nihilist (all wrapped up in a flashy dance number); he’s transgressive from the start, which is perhaps the privilege one has when you’re already born at the top of the food chain—all the while also indicative of a genuine dislike of the system he’s in (and this is where I have MORE thoughts on gender and queerness, but I think that’ll deserve its own post). So although their actions are unequivocally brave, there's a lot less disillusionment E&F need to unpack before they break out—and, one could argue, an inherent privilege in their already being closer to the "truth."

Where I’m going with this is that I think Glinda represents something fascinating about the psyche of the bourgeoisie/upper-middle class—something that has real-world implications today. Because there’s something about her specific rung of power—the one that is just powerful enough to remain perpetually aspirational, like the peak of a bell-curve of ignorance—that taps into an important facet of ��how wickedness happens.” It’s the story of the people who vote against their own interests because they think of themselves as "future billionaires;" the people who arguably lack the privilege of knowing that their race to the top is meaningless. It's the mindset that leaves you abandoning your morals and deepest loves for a system that forever dupes you into thinking your heart's desire is still just behind the curtain.

It’s all another part of why Glinda’s character is so lushly complex. She's complicit, but it stems from a genuine ignorance and vulnerability—and we get to watch her rise and fall so we don't fall victim to the same falsehoods. And I think it's also part of why our tellings and re-tellings of The Wizard of Oz, the true "American fairytale," still continue to resonate with us over a century later.

Ebb & flow anniversary!!!(≧▽≦) I'm super new, but I binge read all your stuff so quickly, and ebb & flow was one of my favourite reads for sure!!! (Along with Chemic!! Something about nerdy Floyb... Aaa!!!) Ah...The role reversal... If darling starts spending too much time with Azul, wont their stepbrothers notice? It's not like they really care who you hang out with, infact, it's nice not to have you clinging to them all the time!! ...At first. But hey, it's getting a bit boring recently, isn't it? You were always showering them with attention and gifts, they really didn't think anything of it...But you've stopped recently, and something about that just doesn't quite sit right with them!! You even act like you're avoiding them! No reactions when they come into your room, leave the door open, give your hair a light tug when you walk past, take random object from your desk, why aren't you giving all your attention to them like usual? Just a light shrug when they tease you about something you should be embarrassed about isn't enough! Darling, meanwhile, has actually come to quite like their arrangement with Azul! Seeing them returned...Felt oddly like a rejection. They had always seen you as an easy tease- a good chase around the house, a playfight that they'd obviously win, a test subject for new dishes. You were so ready to please them! That's how you were, that's how you ARE, isn't it? It should be. It should be, is what they mutually agree on. Maybe they should try indulging you a little? They weren't dense, they could pick up on your feelings, but perhaps ignoring them wasn't the most fun idea? Relationships are give and take, just like that little fling with Azul you're having. They wonder, how much more fun could they have if they let themselves give you what you wanted?(＾▽＾)

AAAAA YESSS!!! Sub Rafayel: an introduction

As a fellow ENTP just as myself, there's some interesting peculiarities about Rafayel as a partner/sub that would be interesting to highlight;

Unlike the other guys, Rafayel is the one I got the hardest time trying to "label." That's because this men can't be labeled at all;

While Xavier, Zayne and even Sylus bring a certain steady pace on their identities as subs, with a solid and clear rhythms, Rafayel is almost a body of water (ba-dum tss) doing the exact opposite;

Of course that he also has his own personal preferences and definitely personal turn ons, but there's a spontaneity on him that's different from the others;

It's a sense of first exploring, that he did in fact, recognized himself as a sub only after he got in a situationship/relationship with you;

He's ultra spontaneous. He adores to explore, and he knows how to. PERIOD;

I mean, he waited 800 years to explore your world with you. The only thing he didn't mention is that he also waited to explore himself with you too;

Adding to it, Rafayel has a silver tongue, but differently from Sylus, he doesn't provoke all the time. He uses his cleverness to bring new ideias and perspectives when he talks to you;

That's why, especially in the beginning of your relationship with him, he would navigate though all the seas that his witty banters with you would allow him to;

He's a sweet talker, inducing you to try new things with him without you even notice it. Does he want you to pose nude as his painting's muse? He would previously comment about historical artists that did the same, left some art books near the couch at his studio for you to see, and someday, maybe in the slow cozy morning after your first time with him, Rafayel would casually sit near the edge of the bed, pencil on hands while you to talk about next plans as he capture every detail of your curves curled in the bedsheets;

He has the gift of the gab, entering the nest was just an easy play for him. He wants your heart, you're his nemesis;

You can tell when you're far too deep into the Splatoon autism pipeline when you're able to sing along with either Calamari Inkantation or Ebb & Flow or both without fault. i think the thing i'm most disappointed about with riordanverse fandom now versus like 2014 is not only has the fandom not gotten any less racist or queerphobic or ableist (in fact in some regards its gotten worse!) but now it's just boring too. like there's no fandom infrastructure anymore - the community these days is almost entirely source material-driven - and you deviate from canon even slightly people get weird about it. whatever happened to the post-HoO fanon boom. the fandom needs to get weirder again. and self-sufficient. and less offensive.

Actually I'm not done talking about them yet. One thing that makes Stobotnik so interesting though is that by the end of each of the movies, everything changes for them in some way.

At the end of the first movie, Robotnik and Stone both lose their US government-funded careers; Robotnik's existence is fully scrubbed from databases, Stone takes up a new position as a barista but anticipates and prepares for Robotnik's return.

That means that in movie 2, when Stone immediately rejoins The Doctor's side, there is no longer any real incentive, financially or career-wise (unless we're talking about him banking on Robotnik's successful world domination), except for his devotion to Robotnik. We don't know exactly how Stone began working at Robotnik's henchman--in the first movie Robotnik also has an entourage of trucks and suits backing him up--but he's Agent Stone; we know it's a job! By the end of movie 2, there's no longer any pretense that it can be 'just a job' for Stone; he's Robotnik's right hand no matter what.

If you take the end of movie 2 deleted scenes as canon, after Robotnik's movie 2 defeat, Stone literally digs his Doctor out of the rubble, cradles him in his arms, fireman carries him to safety, and cares for him the whole time that he recovers. There necessarily has to be some vulnerability between the two of them at least during that period if somehow not at any of the points before.

And then there's the end of movie 3, where as of now we can only speculate what Stone will do now. But by the end, Robotnik has finally made a proper realization of exactly how much Stone means to him. If he somehow comes back...? If he doesn't...? Who's to say how their dynamic will have shifted.
