are you supposed to have “intro” posts?
i am some guy who i guess you can call gf (or uh jeff? lol) based on my randomly chosen username. i was a philosophy and law nerd who ended up studying mathy things in uni instead and now my life is in ruins.
follow for reblogged memes (i dont know how to use tumblr. are you allowed to reblog people’s stuff or is that a faux pas. can someone teach me how to use tumblr? also this parenthetical went way too long) and my struggles to keep myself going, tagged #my life
i guess you’re supposed to name things you like. in no particular order, i like(or liked at some pt):
things to think about: education, academic integrity, misinformation, economic policy, global security, international trade and development, socially constructed identities
movies: lots of oscar noms, knives out 1 + 2, a24 films, various asian american film projects i support because they are my brethren
tv: house md (i liked it before it was cool and that makes me cool yadayada), community, bojack horseman. saw spto recently too.
anime: not a frequent viewer but have deep nostalgia for detective conan/magic kaito, liked haikyuu when i binged it during the panini
books: to be honest i mostly read books based on new yorker reviews. but i love essay collections, memoirs, and trendy novels lol.
academic interests: economics, law, statistics, probability theory, philosophy, political theory
memes: spiciest
art: pretentious
other: used to play genshin. this post is too long now. good night.

This week's been eventful asf, new professors more classes and it's been raining. Had a Tumblr girlie moment with the rain and local chai place too which was dope asf plus I replaced my chair with smth that gives my spine some support 💀
This sem has a subject or two more which means that there's less time for me to write, but since we got clubs I usually contribute to the English and econ clubs whenever they need write ups 😌✨
Also I started to run after not having hit the gym recently and ong it's fun asf lol, steadily making it a morning thing and regularly too.

Hi! I recently stumbled upon your blog and noticed that you were an econ undergraduate, and as someone who is entering into her first year as an economics undergraduate i was wondering if you had any tips or tricks i should keep in mind?
Also i love your blog! <3
Ahhh omg congratulations!! How exciting!!!
Obviously not all tips are going to be the most applicable/best for you, but I’m happy to offer a few things that have helped me in my undergrad econ journey :) thank you sm!
Keep all your notes! So much of econ overlaps with itself (get ready to take the first order condition in 3501934850 contexts) that what you glean from 1 class will almost certainly help you in another
Organize your thoughts (and, consequently, your notes) according to the contingencies. This was particularly helpful for my econometrics school work. It's so easy to be overwhelmed by equations that doing some version of mind-mapping showing how each equation relates to each other and the reasoning behind the variations will keep you on track. Screenshot below of my econometrics notes on confidence intervals, where each arrow/point demonstrates the condition and consequent equation to be used

Follow the story behind whatever calculation it is your doing, don’t just go through the motions of the math involved and call it a day. I've included a screenshot of my labor econ notes where I'm in the middle of deriving the Equimarginal Principle as an example; you'll see that not only am I writing out the relevant equations, but adding annotations to explain the intuition behind each step. Doing so, in my experience, allows the math to re-enforce the economic concept and vice versa!
Tumblr media
More often than not I've found myself most successful synthesizing my last 2 points. Write out and try to frame in your mind the story + the relevant math at each step + the reasoning behind why that math is involved + the empirical evidence that supports the story + if possible, an example or two. It'll get crowded but if you can organize your thoughts/notes accordingly, there will be a logical pathway through all of it. Screenshot below of my econ inequality notes that I hope demonstrates my point.

Hope this helps at least a little!! Know that my inbox is always open <3

As stressful as job searching is, I’m a little worried by GenZers who unironically think we’re in a recession right now because after applying for a lot of jobs in a couple months, they got a bunch of interviews and only 2 job offers.
Because we are not in a recession. And save for specific sectors (tech) that are experiencing churn and cost-cutting because there’s less easy money now due to higher interest rates, the job market isn’t too terrible in aggregate—unemployment is very low. Entry-level “low-skill” jobs are also paying really well due to labor market conditions, unions, and state minimum wage laws.
We’re all allowed to complain, but terms like “recession” have specific definitions and we probably shouldn’t claim individual anecdotal problems in our lives constitute recessions, or else the word would lose any sense. Anyone else remember the Great Recession? That was really, really bad, and worse in basically every sense than now. Anyways, I’m back to grad school apps.

Uni has finally started and I automatically just yeeted myself from anything related to interships and like job placements cause I really don't wanna do something that isn't for me but we get to do a project and ngl stoked to do something in an area that I'm interested in!!
It's funny just seeing myself go from reading the most objective economics books to something about the soviet union and like radical movements across the world lol. Just the either end of the spectrum of chaos; econ bro and the fucker that tells you to join a union
Also obsidian is soo fun lol, I am genuinely just nerding out on random stuff and it's cool seeing that there is some relationship between two random topics and just opening up ideas for things to read and write on
Unrelated but it's now the monsoon season here and then winter, ngl I love the overcast skies, kinda makes me realise I love places where there is a constant chance of rain and rarely a lot of sun
