Summer Studying Challenge

7th July - What did you do during the summer when you were a young child?

growing up i used to travel to scotland in the summer to visit my grandparents. i also spent a lot of time at the local library and visiting museums with my mum. two things i still really enjoying doing today.

hey! i hope you’re having a great day. what’s your favorite study drink? also, what helps you concentrate while studying?

hello! i hope ur doing well too, esp. during these more testing times! 

favorite study drink? hm... def depends on the weather and the time of day. but overall, i love studying with a good cup of tea. usually, it will be chai, a london fog, or something more herbal if it’s in the evening! also pls have water with you at all times - take a sip every 15 minutes!

to concentrate during studying:

- i almost never study in my bedroom bc im so inclined to work on my bed and in a hot minute... im asleep. so! i enjoy working in a library or cafe bc seeing other people so focused and motivated helps me “socially wire” myself into behaving like those around me (i.e. not being on my phone)

- putting my phone on do not disturb is also really good if you don’t want notifications bothering you but also! great if you’re paranoid about important people calling you like your mom (just add to your favorites and your phone will vibrate when your mom calls you!)

- the Pomodoro technique is great, i do 45 minute work periods with 15-minute breaks when i do readings/notes, and 25 minute work periods with 5-minute breaks when i do writing

- rewarding myself! e.g. “i will def. treat myself to a pastry so long as i finish the readings for my sociology class” 

- get a study buddy! you can both keep each other accountable when working. and you can have a second pair of eyes read your work when you’re writing a paper for advice 

- this is a more personal one, but music. music is so great if you’re bothered by consistent silence or in a noisy space. when i do readings and writing i love listening to animal crossing and zelda gaming music (you can find them on youtube!) and when i do research i enjoy listening to what i would listen to when i clean my room/shower (so fun upbeats i guess)

this was a lot of writing, but i hope it helps!
