Pip Blom - Daddy Issues

Daddy Issues video which was directed by Edward Zorab, Daddy Issues is the lead single from the debut album, Boat by Pip Blom, which will be released by Heavenly/PIAS on the 31st May 2019.

Pip Blom are a four piece indie rock / indie pop band from Amsterdam in Holland. The band are Pip Blom (Guitar and Vocals), Tender Blom (Guitar and Vocals), Casper van der Lans (Bass) and Camiel Muiser (Drums).

Project Homage: Edward Zorab

Throughout the past two weeks, I have been researching, discussing and thinking about which visual artist I will pick to pay homage to in my own creation of video. I’ve carefully and happily picked Edward Zorab: a young British director, writer, artist. “a versatile young director with a keen interest in sub-culture, youth culture and fringe stories; I’m inspired by artists such as Harmony Korine, Sofia Coppola, Nan Goldin and Gus Van Sant” writes Zorab on his website. Zorab and I both take inspiration from Sofia Coppola and her stylistic creation of films and I can very much see that in Zorabs videos. Edward Zorab works can be anything from a short film, to a music video. And I will be paying homage to his creation of the music video ‘If you know that i’m lonely’ by the great band ‘FUR’. I will try to mimic the colour pallete demonstarted in the video as well as keep the same story line, movements and camera angles as Zorab did in his version. I will of course be throwing a bit of my own twist in the video, but very much keeping to a Edward Zorab inspired video. As the point of the project is to pay a homage to a certain visual designer.

You’re welcome! I really liked the concept of intertwining 3 different yet similar storylines, all of them linked to one and same bed. It kinda sets up from the beginning that all of our characters are bound to live a tragic (love) story. As it is international, it’s universal— a mere mattress can hold people’ stories and secrets of its own. I guess Ethan and Mei’s arc was the one that particularly left its mark the most according to me. They were mere young secret lovers, struggling to understand and fit in the fucked up society they live in (I mean the 90’s were pretty wild socially and politically speaking, especially in east berlin, the place where their story is set). And the fact that sex and doing drugs seemed to be the only (love) languages they fully mastered in order to communicate make the tragedy is even more gripping.

About Luke in that scene... *bleulone takes a ten second pause to absorbe a thought* dear anon, this is a very sensitive subject. Am I legit ready to write a whole essay, hell even a sonnet, about the way he sighs, the way he shuddered and breathed during this specific scene— OF COURSE...and always, for the sake of my own sanity, i shan’t imagine this in the numerous upcoming polin scenes... nope I shan’t i—
