Hello! I just wanted to give a big thanks to each and every one of you who have engaged with this blog in any way, whether it’s liking or reblogging my posts, dropping a reply, or tagging me in content. It’s been a great 5 or so months of diving back into Twilight’s universe. I love Twilight tumblr because you all take a story that was not necessarily written for everyone and you blew it up and opened the universe and made it 10x gayer, sexier, and more fun.  My feet were just whispers from the ground, and I had to work my wings harder to keep my torn-up legs from touching the blanket of creatures below me. Even if I could bring myself to land on the floor of flesh, my ruined legs would be unable to support my weight. I found myself staring at the ground, watching my talons lightly inscribe faint golden lines in the too-soft floor. I tried to lift off the ground, away from the disturbing sensation, but my body seemed to be moving slower than my mind.

Daylight

My mind could not comprehend the agony, shying into Davriel’s experience to escape it. He was still in the cave. It was cut off by the tide, but the water was lit with daylight.

Evening

That small carving told me several things. First, I was in a cave within sight of my house. Second, from the angle of the light, it was the evening. Third, I needed to leave soon, or the tide would rise, trapping me in here for the entire night

for some reason, you get to rewrite breaking dawn. you can't change anything that happened in the previous books, but how the last book shakes out is entirely up to you.

Yeah.

Also, what you're describing is essentially fanfics, though I don't do the "rewrite X" type story. There are several who do and do a great job. I think @edwardskhakipants writes in this genre for those interested.

Which leads to me not being the one you want for this as it's not something I even do at this moment when there's nothing stopping me from rewriting the entire Twilight saga to whatever the hell I want it to be.

Which brings us to the next point.

What Does it Mean to Rewrite Breaking Dawn?

What's my goal here, exactly? What does it mean to 'rewrite' a story? To me, I suppose, the story is as it is. I'm not offended of it, there were parts that were awful, and parts I thought were great. Mostly though it just... is.

Rewriting isn't the same as an adaptation even.

Am I trying to keep the spirit of the original? Am I trying to conclusively end whatever the Twilight Saga even is in a way that standard fans would have accepted and appreciated? Am I doing whatever I want never mind the tone, goals, and loose plot threads of the original?

This may seem like a ridiculous post, and it is, but the concept of sitting down and rewriting this, especially when I'm not the original author and don't care about their intentions, kind of boggles my mind.

I don't think I can answer this, at least, not well.

What Would I Do?

At a basic level I would do the following.

Jacob never comes back, he leaves after Eclipse, as promised, as his role in the story was over. He never imprints.

The rest of the story happens accordingly.

do you have any twilight blog recommendations? i would love to participate in the fandom and engage with others about this series, but it's like everywhere I go, especially on tiktok now, it's just endless negativity from people who supposedly love this series too. it feels like it went from good natured ribbing and valid criticism to just nonstop negativity and mocking and bad faith interpretations and criticism of the books and it's exhausting.

Hi! Hope you're having a lovely day. What are your Twilight fic recs?

My FFnet favorite stories list is pretty much that: my recs to my readers. I tend to remember authors and titles, so I don't use it as my personal bookmarks; it's instead the list of stories that I think anyone who likes my writing will also like. They’re all vampire, mostly canon compliant or canon adjacent, heavy on characterization and (mostly) light on porn, just like mine. They are also mostly gen.

I’ve also been sloooooowly working my way through the writing of many of my tumblr vamp fic peeps but mostly reading on AO3: @jessicanjpa, @edwardskhakipants and @edwardsmate4ever. My goal for 2023 is to read @needahugfromesme's fic, which she wrote in her first language which is my second language and which I am very bad at reading in. It is going to require a dictionary and many tens of hours and I am going to have fun.

If I had to rec a single fic that I think every person who likes vamp twific should read, it is A Federation of Cassandras by FoiPur. You will never, ever be able to dismiss Bella and Edward's daughter as "Recombinant" or "Reconnoiter" ever again after that read.

listen I understand why people dislike Jacob because he assaults Bella and is generally very unnecessarily mean throughout eclipse & BD, but you also cannot have discussions about his actions without factoring in that he’s a native american boy written by a racist white woman. it’s not as if Jacob Black is a real person with his own free will that did those things. a white woman wrote him like that to cause tension & conflict between her white primary couple.

it’s kind of hilarious that stephanie meyer uses copious romeo & juliet references in the twilight saga, her book series which features two teenagers whose bloodlines have a centuries-old feud that forbids them from coming into contact, and they both struggle with feeling like their destiny is out of their hands because of something their families decided for them, but they share a common goal– and these two characters are NOT the ones who are supposed to parallel romeo and juliet

we deserved to see Bella teaching Edward how to cook. just because he wanted to learn to take care of her in a human way. Bella eyeballs every measurement and cooks a lot of things from memory, but Edward has to follow the recipe exactly. she gets him to open all the jars that are stuck shut. he hugs her from behind and watches over her shoulder while she works. ugh. they deserved more happy domestic moments.
