Batman: The Animated Series Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Alfred
Alfred Pennyworth had served in the British Secret Service prior to becoming a butler and valet.  Relocating to the States, Alfred worked for many years for Dr. Thomas and Martha Wayne as well as their infant son, Bruce.
When the Waynes were murdered and Bruce was orphaned, Alfred stayed on and raised the youngster as though he were his own son.  Bruce would go on to become the vigilante known as The Batman and Alfred remained steadfast at his side.  Along with his regular duties maintaining Wayne Manor, Alfred has acted as The Batman’s constant assistant, medic, chauffeur and crimefighting consultant.  He would go on to act as a fatherly figure to Bruce Wayne’s wards, Dick Grayson and Tim Drake.  He passed away from very old age around the time that Bruce retired his role as Batman.
Actor Clive Revill voiced Alfred in the first three episodes of Batman: The Animated Series and was thereafter voiced by actor Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.  He first appeared in the premier episode of the series, ‘The Cat and The Claw Part I.’

So guess who actually bought that record of on-set interviews when it went back up for bidding on eBay?
Yep, yours truly-- even though I still have no record player. Luckily, one of my friends does, so I can just borrow his.
I’m excited to try it out. From the looks of it, there’s about 35 minutes’ worth of content on this thing.

Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, DeForest Kelley guest stars in "88 Bars," episode 7 of the sixth season of 77 Sunset Strip (original air date November 1, 1963). Kelley plays a charming society playboy whose finances are controlled by his spinster sister. He hires a thug to stalk him and tries to frame the sister's boyfriend for it, because he believes if she gets married her husband will convince her to be less generous with his allowance.
This is that weird final season of 77 Sunset Strip where they got new producers who fired the entire supporting cast, tried to retool the show into a gritty noir, and turned Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.'s character from a genial, professorial type into a hardboiled Philip Marlowe wannabe with a bad narration habit.
Other Trek connections: Grace Lee Whitney has a short scene as a tough-talking exotic dancer.

Batman: The Animated Series - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Alfred (New Adventures)
Alfred Pennyworth remained the dutiful right-hand man to both Bruce Wayne as well as Wayne’s alter-ego, Batman.  Throughout his adventures, Bruce came to rely on Alfred as a source of advice and moral support, one of the few men with whom he shared confidences. There were also multiple times when Alfred came to the rescue of Batman. Alfred was also an invaluable source of aid in all aspects of Batman's life, from keeping his home in perfect order, to helping him maintain his public facade as Bruce Wayne, and occasionally carrying out espionage and investigation on his behalf.
As Bruce became more and more willing to open his mission and home to friends and allies (such as Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and Barbara Gordon) Alfred appeared more and more chipper in his demeanor.  And with his mood cheered, Alfred was more willing to express his wonderfully dry sense of humor, often offering droll one-liners that acted to both ease tensions as well as encourage Batman to be more open-minded.  It cannot be overstated just how crucial Alfred had been to Batman.
During the Thanagarian invasion, Alfred helped shelter the Justice League in Wayne Manor after the Watchtower was compromised and Thanagarians kept searching for them. Following the invasion, he was among the few individuals apart to accept Hawkgirl's heroic efforts in stopping the invasion, despite her having betrayed the team earlier.
Alfred’s legacy lived on long after his passing away.  After Terry McGinnis took on the mantle of the new Batman he would ultimately accept the aide of Maxine Gibson as a partner and confidant.  Maxine was happy to help but insisted on never being called his ‘Robin.’  Terry agreed yet added that she was more his ‘Alfred.’
The fantastic Efrem Zimbalist Jr. provided the voice for Alfred with the hero first appeared in the premier episode of the series, ‘The Cat and The Claw Part I.’

The interviews are up! For those that haven’t been following, this is a vinyl record of interviews recorded on the set of Wait Until Dark. It was sent to radio stations to promote the film. A cue sheet with questions was sent to the DJ with the record: the DJ would read the questions on-air and then the recordings of the interviewees would “answer” back, simulating a live conversation.
The cast and crew interviewed were Audrey Hepburn, Richard Crenna, Alan Arkin, Mel Ferrer, Efrem Zimbalist Jr, Jack Weston, and Terence Young.
Most of the record is in good condition. Only Terence Young’s farewell to the interviewer is warped at all.
A note: The first question slides for Crenna, Zimbalist, and Young go a bit quickly because something went screwy when I processed the video. I apologize.

Just finished a very interesting movie called Home Before Dark.
Tumblr media
I don't want to call it a successor to Gaslight, but there were moments that reminded me of that film....but it's set in a more "modern" world of the late 1950's...and honestly, the mental health issues are a bit more ambiguous...you wonder if Charlotte is actually breaking with reality, or if she is being manipulated...or both.
Jean Simmons gives an absolutely outstanding performance...it feels like a very realistic portrayal of a woman who, at the very least, has been under an incredible strain and is trying to find her way back to herself.
Tumblr media
The movie is also beautifully shot, with a few moments that gave a bit of a noir feel and there was one long take in particular that was really impressive for the time.
If you have TCM, it's available for a few more days...and I'd recommend checking it out!
You also get to see a younger Efrem Zimbalist, Jr...who is also really good in this movie.
