📚 now that he's a child, percy has started school! every day, he logs into his virtual classroom for a variety of assignments and classes. it's a bit unconventional, but probably for the best.
(online school enrolment is from adeepindigo's education overhaul mod. such a cool mod, i definitely recommend checking it out!)
some yapping about my gameplay mechanics down here :P
for this save, i've decided to approach things from a more realistic lens regarding occults, and i'm testing the waters starting with percy. i'm not gonna be going too deep into worldbuilding surrounding human perspectives on the supernatural because that's a bit too much depth for casual gameplay, but i want to try and impose some semi-realistic restrictions because it personally keeps me more immersed lmao
strangerville is a really interesting place for the legacy to start because it's kind of like... anti-alien? or at least alien-hostile. my thought process is that with percy being an alien, his safety could be at risk if he was open about it, especially in strangerville where everyone is either a conspiracy theorist or military personnel. also with the description for generation 2 referencing the alien heir growing up feeling out of place, and the founder having the paranoid trait, i thought it might make sense for percy to have some disconnect from people around him because josie is sheltering him from the outside world. hence online school!
for future generations, if the heir in question is living in a more accepting society around them (ie, forgotten hollow for the vampire generation, or moonwood mill for the werewolf generation) they will naturally have an easier time. but for the more grounded in reality, human towns, i'll be making sure to implement realistic restrictions. i'll also probably make use of the education overhaul mod's occult school option if it feels like it makes sense (which didn't feel like the right choice for percy).
also, regarding the in-game alien disguise feature, i thought it might be a bit too easy to be able to use the disguise without any setbacks like in the vanilla game. i've implemented a personal restriction to keep things interesting where i can only have percy use his alien disguise once a week, almost like it's a special ability on a one week long cooldown. basically if he uses his powers to disguise himself too frequently, it could cause him to burn out. i think it makes sense!
i wasn't sure how to explain this storyline and these mechanics with my usual post formatting so i thought i'd just explain it lmao. if you guys have any questions about it feel free to ask!

Hello again! Sorry if u already answered something similar to this, but I was wondering: on a scale of 1-10, (1 being none at all, and 19 being something like Boyfriend to Death or Killing Stalking), how prominent will horror yandere aspects of the genre be in the game? Hopefully this makes sense haha ;;
✦゜ANSWERED: aaaa unfortunately I'm not familiar with either of those titles (both have extremely triggering themes that I'm not comfortable with/enjoy even from a fictional standpoint), so I can't really give you an accurate answer T_T
Without spoiling too much, 14DWY will eventually change from being cutesy and pastely to dark and eerie the more "unhinged" Ren gets.
You have the ability to shape Ren's actions and the outcome of the other cast members as well — and depending on those choices — it will be reflected within the game. If you continuously get Ren's Dead Ends, things will become more glitchy and Ren will become more self-aware. If you manage to convince Ren to fall further into the deep end, the themes will become more "darker" and it will be visually depicted through the UI change. If you keep Ren as "Ren", certain assets will change to show that he's trying to make his world perfect for you.
The "horror" aspect will always be lingering within the text and overall vibe of the game as it progresses and adapts to your play-style — as well as portraying the morality of the cast and the impact your choices make.
The jumpscares in the Dead Ends are just a red herring :)

'Players will optimize the fun out of the game' is such a bizarre conept to me. Video games, to me, fulfill 2 needs: playing with dolls (roleplaying a compelling narrative) and getting immersed in a fictional world. i am constantly on a quest to make every game i play more difficult than it needs to be to achieve these goals. i'll turn off the minimap in your open world game and play it like it's firewatch dont fucking try me

Catching up to CSM is terrible because all it does is make me wish JJK was more like it
#Like. Obv they're different. But CSM is willing to really fucking Commit To The Bit of social commentary and horror and stuff#JJK has the bones of great world building but that's all they are. Bones. There's no MEAT#CSM has meat- sometimes its maybe rotten and festering but it's MEAT#Anyway. My real gripe w Gege isn't that they mishandle things as much as they seem like they aren't handling things well#(treatment of the girls & women in the story / lackluster criticism of power structures / weird random ableism / UI Ui / etc)#But they don't fuckin commit to the bit. Fujimoto uhhhhh. Well. He fucking writes. Good or bad you have to acknowledge he's saying SOMETHIN#Like I think that's what genuinely gets me. If fujimoto does weird shit you can See It because he makes it obvious.#When Gege does weird shit it's hard to notice bc it's just kinda brushed over in favor of other shit so it ends up feeling#Almost insidious. It's probably not intentional but it's still like ''hm I think people are internalizing aspects of this without#Realizing that it is in fact influencing the way they think''.#Vs with chainsaw man you can say ''what the fuck does this mean???'' and have actual discussion about the themes messages and implications#Of the shit being written. JJK is evil not just because it's kinda mediocre and disappointing but also because it genuinely makes me think#''i should reread fire punch'' which. i love clean ui, i'll miss her, but i'm a dark mode gal i'm sorry ;-;
tears 👏 of 👏 joy 👏
i like the black cursor, the ts4 seasons and lunar icons yassss i'm so glad they were included - i use them for clean ui as well - and i actually don't mind the high contrast of this; the stark white/pitch black/lime green combo highlights the colored elements of the panels, and i obviously had to get the dynamic main menu. didn't take a pic of the loading screen but *chef's kiss*.
chalk'd ui and starship ui had a baby, and it's blackout ui. my family is complete. i'm very happy.
