Today,emancipation day here in Trinidad and Tobago is a timely occasion to announce a significant commission I was chosen to be part of earlier this year.The St James’s Church Piccadilly, London has commissioned me to create  four new paintings which will be installed permanently at the entrance of the church.The commission marks the 250th anniversary of the baptism of Quobna Ottobah Cugoano, a prominent abolitionist of the time and a significant figure in the history of Britain. He was baptised at the church, on 20th August 1773.The fist thing that struck me is that I knew nothing about Cugoano and his life and work as major abolitionist. 

That in itself speaks volumes about how history has been told.I am humbled to discover who he was and more than honoured to be chosen to commemorate his life and what he stood for.This will be the first permanent art commission to commemorate Cugoano’s life anywhere in the world.Ottobah Cugoano was born around 1757 in that part of west Africa now known as Ghana. At the age of 13, he was kidnapped by slave traders before being shipped to the West Indies. Cugoano was sold to a plantation owner in Grenada. In 1772 He was bought by an English merchant and brought to the UK, gaining his freedom that same year.Cugoano was very active in the ‘Sons of Africa’ group which condemned the practice of slavery and campaigned for its abolition. They lobbied public figures and wrote regularly to the newspapers. Cugoano became a forthright critic of slavery and his influential book, ‘Thoughts and Sentiments on the Evil of Slavery’ (1787) is still in print today.“ 

Lovelace’s work not only connects with the geographies and legacies of the abhorrent Transatlantic slave trade but also evokes an honest, lyrical, sun-filled exaltation of what a vibrant future with open acknowledgement of these histories might look like. Thinking through what the act of Baptism means in theological terms, there is a sense of emerging out of water into a new tomorrow that the paintings capture.“The unveiling ceremony for the event will be held on September 20th 2023.

On June 19, 1865, Union Army General Gordon Granger stood on a balcony in Galveston, Texas and read aloud General Order No. 3, informing the state's enslaved people that President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation meant they were free. In the years since, Juneteenth has become an opportunity to remember all those who lived and died under the horrific system of slavery, honor everyone who helped end it, and celebrate the people and contributions of the African American community. It's more important than ever before that we all take some time to mark Juneteenth and reflect on the legacy of slavery in our country's history. We see markers of white supremacy around us every day. It's marching in our streets with torches and signs bearing hate speech, detaining innocent families in camps at the border, and enshrining prejudice in our laws by suppressing the votes of people of color. It's saying that it'll make America great again; great again for whom has always been clear from the context. So many Americans believe in racial justice, in equality, in our differences not just making us stronger but defining what it means to be American. Let's celebrate our victories and our black communities as we keep working for a more perfect union. Happy Juneteenth.

Danny destroys the portal after the GIW try and send an anti ecto missile into the portal a second time. The GIW and his parents had teamed up. GIW funding the fentons as they are the only people they know of who have successfully created a portal.

Danny also destroyed all records of how it was done. The reason for the destruction was because the citizens of the realm were tired of having to defend there home. If the human realm wanted to destroy them it was only fair to return the favor.

Danny gets a new identity courtesy of tucker. A Danny nightingale recently emancipated. Where better to hide out then one of the most crime ridden cities in America. Gotham.

Danny slowly falls into the bat’s clutches. Adoption sense went way off on him. He despises the Wayne’s. He only likes the vigilantes.

One day one of the Wayne’s approached him at the place he worked. Someone took a photo. Like a civilian taking a pic of a celebrity type situation. Just bragging about getting a photo of a Wayne.

The next day he is very publicly arrested. Like it’s a whole show. They accuse him of destroying government property and breaking into government labs only to steal from them.

Danny just starts yelling at them. He destroyed there portal to stop the other dimension from attacking this dimension. About how they had the audacity to tear a whole in the dimension to the infinite realms. One of the most deadly dimensions. That they should be thanking him for stopping the realm.

Then screaming about how the only thing he stole were the ghost they took hostage. If he didn’t break and free them then they would have sent someone like the fright knight. Did they really want to deal with a nightmare dimension.

Juneteenth is a Black American holiday. 

We call Juneteenth many things: Black Independence Day, Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, Jubilee Day. We celebrate and honor our ancestors. 

December 31 is recognized as Watch Night or Freedom’s Eve in Black American churches because it marks the day our enslaved ancestors were awaiting news of their freedom going into 1863. On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. But all of the ancestors wouldn’t be freed until June 19, 1865 for those in Galveston, Texas and even January 23, 1866 for those in New Jersey (the last slave state). (It’s also worth noting that our people under the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations wouldn’t be freed until April 28, 1866 and June 14, 1866 for those under the Cherokee Nation by way of the Treaties.)

Since 1866, Black Americans in Texas have been commemorating the emancipation of our people by way of reading the Emancipation Proclamation and coming together to have parades, free festivities, and later on pageants. Thereafter, it spread to select states as an annual day of commemoration of our people in our homeland.

(It’s also worth noting that the Mascogos tribe in Coahuila, Mexico celebrate Juneteenth over there as well. Quick history lesson: A total of 305,326 Africans were shipped to the US to be enslaved alongside of American Indians who were already or would become enslaved as prisoners of war, as well as those who stayed behind refusing to leave and walk the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. In the United States, you were either enslaved under the English territories, the Dutch, the French, the Spanish, or under the Nations of what would called the Five “Civilized” Native American Tribes: Cherokee, Creek (Muscogee), Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminoles. Mascogos descend from the Seminoles who escaped slavery during the Seminole Wars, or the Gullah Wars that lasted for more than 100 years if you will, and then settled at El Nacimiento in 1852.)

We largely wave our red, white and blue flags on Juneteenth. These are the only colors that represent Juneteenth. But sometimes you may see others wave our Black American Heritage flag (red, black, and gold).

Juneteenth is a day of respect. It has nothing to do with Africa, diversity, inclusion, immigration, your Pan-African flag, your cashapps, nor your commerce businesses. It is not a day of “what about” isms. It is not a day to tap into your inner colonizer and attempt to wipe out our existence. That is ethnocide and anti-Black American. If you can’t attend a Black American (centered) event that’s filled with education on the day, our music, our food and other centered activities because it’s not centered around yours…that is a you problem. Respect our day for what and whom it stands for in our homeland.

It was created in 1997. The red, white and blue colors represent the American flag. The five-point star represents the Lone State (Texas). The white burst around the star represents a nova, the beginning of a new star. The new beginning for Black Americans. 

Black American Heritage Flag creators: Melvin Charles & Gleason T. Jackson

It was created in 1967, our Civil Rights era. The color black represents the ethnic pride for who we are. Red represents the blood shed for freedom, equality, justice and human dignity. Gold fig wreath represents intellect, prosperity, and peace. The sword represents the strength and authority exhibited by a Black culture that made many contributions to the world in mathematics, art, medicine, and physical science, heralding the contributions that Black Americans would make in these and other fields. 

SN: While we’re talking about flags, I should note that Grace Wisher, a 13-year-old free Black girl from Baltimore helped stitched the Star Spangled flag, which would inspire the national anthem during her six years of service to Mary Pickersgill. I ain’t even gon hold you. I never looked too far into it, but she prob sewed that whole American flag her damn self. They love lying about history here until you start unearthing them old documents. 

In conclusion, Juneteenth is a Black American holiday. Respect us and our ancestors.

happy emancipation day! today we in the english caribbean celebrate the end of slavery, and later apprenticeship (which was slavery by another name). plantation owners and their families were compensated for the loss of their slaves, and the last payments to those families were made in 2015. that same year during a visit to jamaica then prime minister of england david cameron urged the country to move on from slavery and ruled out reparations. to the uk, to europe more broadly, give us our fucking money back.
