In the emperor lwj AU/fem wwx au, why is Jingyi the crown prince when LWJ is still young and isn't married yet? Is he just the heir presumptive, or has LWJ named him the crown prince already?

Jingyi should have been heir presumptive with the expectation that one of his younger cousins would succeed Lan Wangji in the future, but LWJ jumped the gun and named baby Jingyi Crown Prince because he survived smallpox variolation when he was six months old.

In Chapter 1, I mentioned that Madam Lan died of smallpox about 13 years before the bridal selection arc. As a result, Lan Xichen had Jingyi and A-Yuan undergo variolation (a precursor to vaccination, where powdered scabs from smallpox patients were inhaled/placed in cuts on the skin) as soon as Wen Qing was ready to risk the procedure.

Jingyi and A-Yuan developed localized infections on their arms and recovered a few weeks later; and when Lan Wangji heard that they were safe and no longer infectious, Jingyi was officially declared the taizi.

I think the problem I really have with the end of MDZS is that WWX and LWJ have torn down the top of the cultivation world but they didn’t really do anything to fix it. The people who were trying to change society are either dead and discredited (JGY and XXC) or unable to influence things anymore (LXC and SL). The only great sect still standing strong are the Jiang and as far as we know if anything happens to JC there’s no one who could succeed him. The old fuddies who let people like WRH and JGS come to power are still around and in charge. WWX changed things yes but not for the better and he didn’t even have the nerve to stick around to fix things. And it shouldn’t all be on his shoulders, true, but when people are going around preaching his goodness and morality it really stings that he didn’t actually fix anything.

I generally ignore the concept of an imperial government existing somewhere in this universe (I know it's an assumed genre convention, but since in this case there's no evidence or mention of any government apparatus despite the repeated wars with thousands upon thousands of casualties spilling outside the sects, what am I even gonna do with that information?), but this is a situation where I REALLY HOPE THIS ABSENTEE EMPEROR IS OUT THERE. If the average person is carrying on business as usual and the country itself is still functioning just fine, then who cares if those weirdo cultivation sects are going through it? The actual government might even be able to intervene and stabilize things. Or, more likely, diminish whatever sway the sects had, which is valid given 2/3 of the previous Chief Cultivators actively made things worse for the world at large.

But if the cultivation sects are all there is, and the important ones function almost like feudal lords in charge of general administration in their region, then things aren't looking great! There is one hell of a power vacuum happening there! The whole thing should collapse maybe, if nobody can hold onto their power via sheer force or public support. Given that JGY's watchtower project was considered this revolutionary above-and-beyond work of public service and not a common-sense piece of infrastructure, the cultivation sects aren't even reliably providing protection, so who is this system even for?

So I don't know if anyone in the fandom can help me, but i've been looking for a ao3 wangxian story and cannot find it (it is starting to drive me insane😫). From what I remember WWX is trapped as a fox and gifted to (Prince?) LWJ and causes mischief and stumbles onto a Jin (and maybe Jiang?) plot against emperor LXC. The story ends with WWX stopping the emperor from drinking poison and breaking the curse (?) placed on him to reveal all the things he's discovered to a gobsmacked LWJ and the two end up together sometime in the future.....

Does anyone know this story? Has it been deleted and that's why I can't find it? Any help would be appreciated

After seeing screenshots from LXC and LQR having tea and tags wondering what room that is, if it's the Hanshi (aka LXC house/room), but it's not, it's a room/building called song feng shui yue, I went into a bit of an obsession to find out what that building might be. If it's possible that it's LQR's place of living. I found this post, which is great (some really amazing drawings there, guys), but what 'annoys' me a little is that they call it Hanshi/Yashi but never mentions the name song feng shui yue, even though it's right there, even in their drawings. Yashi is on another sign, but there's never any sign that says Hanshi, so it doesn't seem like it's actually LXC's place of living. The place does have a bed though, so I think it might maybe be where LQR sleeps.

(TL;DR at the bottom.)

Let's dive into this now. Starting with the name of the place:

松風水月 - sōng fēng shuǐ yuè (it's read right to left)

松 - loose; to loosen; to relax; floss (dry, fluffy food product made from shredded, seasoned meat or fish, used as a topping or filling); pine; 風 - wind; news; style; custom; manner; 水 - water; river; liquid; beverage; additional charges or income; (of clothes) classifier for number of washes 月 - moon; month; monthly

This might come from a poem or similar, since that seems to be a Gusu Lan thing. I'm not Chinese and I couldn't find anything with these words or signs in them when I searched.

Edit: I've now found stuff and it is indeed from a poem/verse written by Emperor Taizong of Tang. This also means the characters are meant to be read as one on one and not together as the dictionary told me, aka be read as feng + shui, not feng shui (which I did find a little weird, but I rather trust a Chinese dictionary than my very low knowledge of Chinese, especially since I know that feng shui is more than just how to place your furnitures).

"As clear as the pine breeze, as bright and clear as the moon in the water. It means a noble character."

It also seem to be a part of the Yashi, since it says Yashi ( 雅室 ) (once again read right to left) by the door that leads to the walkway/courtyard where song feng shui yue is, as seen in ep 6. (I think it's possible Yashi is the collective name of several buildings/rooms belonging to the main Lan family.)

Now to analyse what can be seen in different episodes, mainly ep. 7.

Firstly, the building seems to be the entrance/reception hall with the "high seat" at the end and then a room to the right and one to the left.

To the right is where we see Qiren and Xichen having tea at least twice (and I think Xichen sees Guangyao there too later on). This part of the building is seen from several angles and quite well. Nothing is really hidden here and seems to be a table for 2-3 people.

The room to the left is not seen much at all. As far as I've found, it's best seen when Jin Guangshan is there and we can see if behind him. There you can see a bed and a guqin. I'm quite certain that's not Wangji's guqin, it could possibly be Xichen's, but it could also be Qiren's. In any case, it's there and so is the bed, so someone sleeps there regularly and my bet is that it's Lan Qiren. Because if this truly was the Hanshi, why doesn't the sign in the front says that instead of song feng shui yue?

Another reason I believe this might be Qiren's living area is because we get to see Xichen talk to Wen Chao, but that is not in this building. It might seem like it, but unless they've changed interior and moved around furniture etc, it's a different place. I believe Xichen talks to Wen Chao in the Hanshi aka his home (especially considering the bamboo you can see behind him, even if it's just a bamboo motif + there's a bed in the background too).

TL;DR: song feng shui yue where we see LQR & LXC have tea and LQR meet with JFM & JGS is possibly LQR's place of living and seems to be a part of the Yashi. Hanshi seems to be elsewhere (although could still be a part of Yashi).

Good morning anon, no need to feel bad, it's what I'm here for at times.

Personally, no I don't agree with the many more critical takes regarding Lan Xichen. He is not meant to be seen as a major part of the problem(tm) as others within story. He is simply a protective elder brother that is unfortunately kinder and ignorant in a world that is against that very character in a stage that caters towards the politically corrupt and taking advantage of those characteristics. He is not a cruel leader.

His sect at any rate isn't meant to be politically motivated and this is reflective of his teachings. Culturally if you are that heavily based within doaist teachings, it is not actually meant to be used for the political world. There are sayings that to be a good doaist, you aren't a leader or one to be equivalent to an emperor. You aren't meant for politics essentially other than advisory. Can this be disliked, of course, doaism is supposed to be the divorce of human strife from enlightenment, good and bad are not supposed to shake you as neither extreme are complete harmony.

His point narratively is what this practice means for people in the thick of these human issues and the counterproductiveness of pacifism in the face of needing to come to term with punishment of humans and the hypocrisy of this at times you have to fight with personally.

Wei Wuxian as well. He was treated alright and enough for him to be thankful and happy at lotus Pier, but realistically he was not treated well by several there, it was just that he weighed the good against the negative and was comfortable staying to find his happiness with the situation. However, with the given world building status is flung against him as having become too arrogant given he was born a servant's son, and the expectations of him were to also serve as such and obey. This is used against him by his guardians themselves, Jiang Cheng and the world as recompense for having raised him as a cultivator, he also told his own self whatever sacrifices made by him for it, was of an equal sacrifice for having been taken in and raised as such. This is a theme regarding those that are lower class, they are expected to show full gratitude and repayment that those of higher status do not.

"Consider it a repayment of my debt to the Jiangs,” Wei Wuxian added.

This wasn’t something he liked to keep reliving. He didn’t want to be forced to remember the sensation of having his core cut out while he was still conscious, nor want to be forcefully reminded of what a sacrifice it had been and what it had cost.

Had this incident been exposed in his previous life, he would most likely have laughed it off. He would have consoled Jiang Cheng with, “It’s really no big deal. Look at me, haven’t I managed for this long without a golden core? I still beat up whomever I want and kill whomever I please.” But he no longer had the strength to keep up a nonchalant act.

Of course not. It was impossible.

After bringing himself around so many times this way, he was almost able to actually feel as wild and carefree as he acted on the surface. He could even half-jokingly praise himself for the state of acceptance he had reached, while he was at it.

But all that was in the past.

His rationale is very similar to what those in poverty or on the cusp tell themselves, be grateful for what is given to you, no more, and always repay what others have given to you despite anything. Don't whine, take it, be grateful, don't ask for more, and expect to pay back in full due to integrity. Note that this is also what Jiang Cheng insists on, but the goals have constantly shifted as to what Wei Wuxian owes him. First it was because of his parents raising him, next, what he owed Yunmeng Jiang due to being a disciple, then, what he made Jiang Yanli "lose".

You cannot repay something that is not tangentially there any longer, hurt feelings do not have closure unless you have to lay them to rest. Wei Wuxian had done his all to protect the Jiang's son as expected and more. Yet this still is not him bemoaning the situation as he rationalized it was what he needed to do based on the chance he was given. Not many else in the work bother to do more than blame others or shift blame and responsibility.

i think we as a fandom should roast lan xichen more. hypocrite really encouraged lan wangji to grow closer to wei wuxian then let him get punished for trying to save him

wwx and lwj were like "we think jgy is up to some shady shit" and lan xichen's response was "okay but i like him though"

Just another day in the mdzs fandom …

I think often ppl in fandoms are sort of enamored w putting out "hot takes", even when those hot takes completely eviscerate the story of its depth and don't actually make sense if you give them more than a second of consideration. Kind of like that LSZ was crazy for not jumping on the cancel WWX bandwagon 🤪. A take like this erases the actual dynamic between LXC and LWJ, the fact that it is a loving and positive relationship, LXC's autonomy and characterization, JGY's masterful manipulating, and especially LWJ's own characterization; because this is a man who does believe in the Lan teachings. He punished himself when WWX MADE HIM break curfew. He punished himself after he drank Emperor's smile and branded himself (even though LQR didn't punish him) SO how would he have accepted injuring 33 elders of his own clan without no repercussions. The point is he knew the consequences/cost and accepted them when standing by WWX and he carried no resentment about it. Direct contrast to jc who tried to distract some troops, got himself captured instead and then never stopped resenting WWX. The other point is LXC knows the face JGY has shown him all these years, that WWX himself knows would give him no reason to doubt JGY. LXC is also aware of how the cultivation world talks about JGY and treats him bc of his birth and doesn't want to condemn him off the bat, but still agrees to investigate and find proof! He doesn't tell LWJ he doesn't trust him (LWJ), he says neither one of them have seen the head personally so they must both go off the word of a second person. Hell someone else would've been more mistrustful after essentially forcing his way into JGY's treasure room only to find no head there! But LXC still agrees to investigate.

Lan XiChen nodded, “Young Master Wei, no need to worry. Before the truth is entirely revealed, I will not be partial to either side or reveal your whereabouts. Or else, I would not have allowed WangJi to take you to my Hanshi or helped with your injuries.”

And afterwards WWX and LWJ both trust his righteousness.

Wei WuXian played with the bookmark in his hands before giving it back to him, “Your brother received quite a big shock.”

With care, Lan WangJi put the dried herb peony back into the book. He shut the pages, “Now that he has found the evidence, he will not tolerate this.”

No matter how close of a relationship Lan XiChen and Jin GuangYao had, he was still from the GusuLan Sect and had his own principles.

Do people just not care what the author writes? Is it that they have cancel culture brain and know they'd jump on any hate bandwagon in a hot second after one inflammatory tweet and zero due diligence? Let's be real most people in fandom would have been like the ones at Nightless City condemning WWX. Or, do they think the Clan leaders gathered at LP who start trash talking JGY immediately and assigning every negative thing to him the way they'd once done to WWX are the ideal? I get the desire to make these humorous quips but like almost everything else in the fandom they're not about the characters or the story, they're about the op, clout etc... So take them w a grain of salt. x

in the flowers in the palace au, when did lwj realize that she was in love with wwx? It seems like she knows by the first part of the series, since lqr is trying to encourage lwj to marry and she's refusing, so did lwj fall in love when wwx was studying at the cr (if that happened in this verse)?

Lan Wangji's love realization happens when Wei Wuxian breaks into the Cloud Recesses to comfort her in "for myself, in my frenzied heart." This doesn't have much to do with Lan Wangji's refusal to marry; she was simply raised differently from most other girls in the FITP universe, because Lan Qiren and Qingheng-jun knew they could rely on Nie Mingjue to protect her after their deaths through NMJ's marriage to Lan Xichen.

During Lan Wangji's childhood, Nie Mingjue's father was a high-ranking general who controlled the most important military garrison in the empire, and LQR/QHJ were confident that Lan Wangji would be free to live the life she wanted (and stay safe from power plays within the Lan clan) as long as LXC had the Nie family behind her. Thus, LWJ was allowed to choose the subjects she studied after she came of age; and when she decided to pursue higher studies in music and weapons training instead of learning how to manage a household, QHJ didn't object.

By 21, Lan Wangji would have found it extremely difficult to fulfill any of the responsibilities of a gentry wife, so QHJ/LQR never considered marrying her off until Qin Su joined NMJ's harem as a concubine (signaling a loss of favor/power on Lan Xichen's part).

I think Qinghe and Gusu are close enough that their sect leaders interacted pretty often, and thus NMJ and LXC would have met as boys. Both of them are older brothers who really appreciated meeting another boy similar in age, with whom they could just be kids again.

5. A scene I wish we had of them

In CQL when they get the Unclean Realm back, after JC's reunion with his sister but before he runs off in search of WWX. It would have been so nice to get a moment between JC and NHS, whether as simple as them seeing each other for the first time since the indoctrination camp and just happy they're both alive, or as involved as JC sitting alone in his room, unable to sleep, when NHS shows up with a bottle of strong Qinghe liquor saying it's no emperor's smile but it'll do, making a point to call him Jiang-xiong again because most people have been calling him Jiang-zonzhu and somebody needs to remind him that he's allowed to just be JC.

fake dating, established relationship, getting together

Fake dating - C in general, F for Xiyao

Although I don't normally enjoy romance where the entire plot is predicated on neither character possessing the capacity to initiate an adult conversation, it can definitely be done well—particularly when comedic. If there are good reasons for the lack of communication and I'm not reading about two adults acting like a particularly insulting stereotype of tweenage girls, I'm on board! But this trope is just all wrong for Xiyao. They are the kings, nay the emperors of good communication. Here are the circumstances in which JGY and LXC struggle to communicate effectively: when LXC fails to take on board exactly how dangerous NMJ has become, so JGY quite reasonably assumes that LXC won't be on board with the NMJ murder and the incest marriage even if all the context is explained to him. Anyone sane would make this assumption, even though in a painfully ironic twist LXC actually does listen and is on the way to following JGY's logic even if he's deeply unhappy about it (understatement) during the temple. This is how far we need to go to stop communication between this pair. They've been best friends and close confidantes for 20+ years, starting in their teens. JGY even knows all the Wangxian gossip! And in a situation where fake dating is possible, real dating is possible. Which means they are already real dating. QED.

Established relationship - A

Gimme gimme. Not everything has to be an origin story, and with Xiyao in particular they're already so close that, logistical challenges and societal expectations aside, their internal dynamic shifts very little if they transition from friendship to romance. I'm not mad keen on canon reads where they've secretly been together all along, as I think at best it's a resistant read that requires some heavy lifting, but it is something that I'll stretch to and I'd be a hypocrite to judge that particular read too harshly when I've used it myself in at least one fic.

Getting together - B

Yeah not everything has to be an origin story, but I still like a good origin story. This does drop down to C in the sense that I think it's difficult to execute Xiyao acting on their romantic tension in the canon setting and I'm not interested in AUs where everything is theoretically the same but somehow it's suddenly OK for Lan-zongzhu and Meng Yao Xiandu to enter into a marriage that would be biologically childless by definition. But with other pairings where this trope is easier to execute, it's definitely something I don't mind coming across.

okay, back to imagining-

imagine an au where wwx noticed he had feelings for lwj in the wen indoctrination confessed to him at the xuanwu cave because, you know, he thought they were going to die and he refused to die without confessing. the thing is, because he already knew he was in love with wwx, lwj confesses back. they kiss, have some sweet momments and shit. after being found and saved by jwy they decide to begin a relationship, but keep it a secret. the only people that knew were lxc and jyl, and they only knew because they discovered it themselves.

but then, the fall of lotus pier happens, then there's the sunshot campaign and all of the other shits. except that wangxian actually communicate and there's no romantic angst because i said so-

then wwx saves the wens, and lwj wants to follow him, but wwx convices him to stay in gusu with his family and that him and the wens would be fine, so lwj does not go live in the burial mounds [unfortunately], but he visits every time he can make an excuse to go close to yiling [i.e.: at least obce a week], so wangxian get to be little a'yuan's parents.

then there's jzx dies and everything goes to shit like in canon. there's the nightless city battle, jyl's death, lwj saves and hides wwx, lwj refuses to give wwx to his sect, fights the elders and is whipped 33 times. except that he does not survive. as soon as the last lash hits lwj's back, he falls to the ground, and his heart stops.

wwx wakes up and blindly goes to the burial mounds. things proceed as canon, except that, after the first siege in the burial mounds, no one vomes to save little a'yuan, who dies scared and alone, calling to his parents.

wwx dies and ends up in the limbo, a place for lost souls which is basically an infinite train that never stops running unless the soul is able to move on and go to a lighter plane or just straight up reincarnate. times moves differently in the limbo, so while 13 years passed in the living world, 130 years passed in the limbo.

wwx stayed in 130 years in the limbo, with resentment and the grief messing with his [already fractured] mind frequently. little by little, hsi mind breaks even more and he descends deeper into madness each time.

thirteen years later, a different ritual is used and wwx comes back in his own body [unfortunately, mxy still dies because i don't know what to do with him], the only difference being his permanently blood red eyes and the white streak in the front of his hair.

as soon as he breathed for the first time in 130 years, wwx was ready to tear the cultivation world slow and painfully, piece by piece for everything it had done to him and those he loved. however, as soon as he hears that lwj had died, and he recovers his memories from the cave, all reationality is thown out of the window, and he goes absolutely berserk.

in less than thirteen days [yes, i difd chose this number on purpose], all of the major sects are gone, their members being completely wiped out of the map by a vengeful yiling laozu and hsi army of corpses that grew bigger and bigger every second.

because he became so poweful and basically ended cultivation, no one had the courage to throw wwx down thsi time, and so he lived and ruled china as a whole, because no one dared question him when he took the emperors throne for himself. they were afraid to do so.

am i going to continue this? probably not.
