This is probably not the sort of shit you write on the internet, but I'm still laughing at it a whole month afterwards, so

I had an appointment with a seamstress. Someone new because I haven't had anything custom fit made in enough time that the seamstress I knew seemed to have disappeared from the face of earth (she's not on instagram).

New seamstress is an older lady, not so old to be my mother but old enough that I mentally put her under the auntie tag, and she has very little fucks to give.

It's a wonder to watch, because I can tell the moments she just went 'fuck I said that'. For an instance, when we were discussing the shape of the dress I wanted and she let out a "oh, you're fine with a full skirt, you're big enough, it won't make you look weird." Her face was precious. She added a quick "I don't mean you're fat, you got bones," and that was even funnier. I laughed, as I usually do. She was visibly relieved.

The thing is, I don't have the sort of body issues people expect. I'm female shaped, but tall and strong, though the strength hides beneath a layer of softness. This is not the delicate, fragile beauty people expect from women, which is fine because I'm not a woman.

Knowing I'm enby took away all the weight of female performance. Whenever I wear a long, red cocktail dress, like the one I'm making with that seamstress, I'm effectively going in drag. If I need to take steps to look closer to the female standard so my drag goes better, it's fine, I'll do it for the drama.

It was surprising, in a gender way, how fun an interesting doing the female drag became once I decided it was as much drag as when I put on a binder, button-down, bowtie and play the little guy.

So, yeah, when the seamstress measured my chest and said "oh, boobs are small!" I also laughed. I'm still laughing from remembering her amazement. I mean, what's amazing about that? I don't know! That's what's funny!

(small boobs are very useful to play the soft little guy)

Gender can be a funny thing once you make peace with yourself.
