I spent the day working on (hopefully) final concept art for the mysterious Myster, a love interest who will be introduced in the next demo. ... I can't promise he'll show up in person, but you should be able to talk to him!
I've been working on both his heroic and his civilian design for more than three!! years!!!
His hero suit was inspired by: Lelouch/Zero Code Geass, Berzerker Fate/Zero, Zer0 Borderlands 2, and a set of scifi League skins. ... Weird that the first three sources all use the word "zero" somewhere but that's not the focus of our devlog today.
I've also started working on some sprite expressions for Griffin - not ready to show those off just yet but they're coming along, here's a sketch page I made before transitioning to digital art -
I wrote a decent amount, I believe somewhere over 600 words including some important variable-based scenes and menu choices... I'm pretty sure I started coding in and formatting that scene while I was at it.
I also BACKED UP MY FILES somehow I hadn't backed up my files for months!!! I guess I let that get away from me after the demo came out, but I definitely had to get back into the practice.
Woops its been way too long. I can explain why but it's not that interesting and you guys aren't here for me, as you should haha!
I sketched out all the new sprites for Jillian and her old friends. This is a project I do in my free time and I don't have a lot of that (free time in which I'm motivated to draw for myself, that is). So it still will be slow development! But after lots of stuff behind the scenes I'm happy to get back to the art part :)
From left to right:
Elijah (sax player), Aden (drummer), Jillian (piano player / guitar player), Sally (Glockenspiel player), and September (violin player)
All of them are new sketches, though I shared Jillian and September before, but I re-used Sally's old sprite for her face because I still really liked it !! I hope to make a better demo first, which is longer has the story better layed out and of course features new and improved art! Thank you all for still being here, you guys are awesome~
And I opened the discord server again; For more stuff y'know

When December 17th arrives, it'll mark four months since the release of Don't Give Up On Me! on itch.io.
Time flies so fast! And there hasn't been a single day where I didn't think about this visual novel ever since it came out. All of its story moments still stick with me. Of course, it might be weird for me to say that, as I am one of the writers of the whole game alongside my dear friend and artist Ryuzi_nea. Maybe it's a bit biased. But I would argue otherwise.
Don't Give Up On Me! was something we both gave extreme attention to detail and overall care. We've spent an entire year developing this game together, having necessary breaks when we couldn't focus on the game properly, just so that it'd have the attention it deserved at the proper time. It's not an incomplete game, nor one we'd like to do differently if we had the chance. It's a genuine fulfilled vision - and something we are proud of. And seeing some of the reactions to the game itself is just a confirmation that it was all worth it.
The reason I write this series of devlogs is to reflect and share a bit of how the entire writing process went down. Many things sticked, many things changed. Many scenes were rewritten over and over. Many inspirations were taken from various sources. By sharing all of that with you, dear reader, I sincerely hope some of the things here serve as tips for your own writing - be it for a visual novel, be it for something else.
In this part one, I will talk about how the project came to be - after all, how was the whole concept of Don't Give Up On Me! born?

Putting together a bunch of graphics in preparation for the demo's release. Why did I plan for so many graphics??? So many......
The voiced Griffin video is... done. Finally.
The only reason I'm not posting it now is because I promised I'd have a release date when Griffin starts blinking. And, ladida, Griffin is gonna be blinking a-plenty in the video. There's a small handful of things I wanna square away before settling on a date. But we're getting there!!!
I've just finished putting in a bunch of achievements into the game using Fenik's very cool renpy achievement code! 26 achievements in total! I haven't tested them yet, but they're all in there!!!
Well... Okay I did test this one haha.
I added all my final writing edits into the code.
I updated the presentation of two small moments ("Two Days Later" + the bit about right clicking to save the game)
resized a couple of backgrounds
Touched up the title screen logo (there were stray white lines and spots on it for some reason)
removed dissolve from katie head tilt transitions
raised the height of the middle menu choice option by a bit
linked ambient loops (such as purring and traffic) to SOUND channel, rather than music
updated the code to unlocked all the locked choices if you beat the demo once
color corrected the achievement label text
updated the 'achievement' section of the walkthrough (walkthrough is now tentatively done.)
I made and imported an sfx for a high five.
Ah... hmm. That about does it for now.
🎉Poll results🎉 btw: looks like most of yall have been around since 2021-2022! Thank you to everyone who participated, and to everyone following along on our lil super journey. 😊

What do you think about the translations into other languages of the game?
Oop! Sorry this took ages to respond omg, but initially I had no plans on translating the game just yet, especially since the game is still in development.
However!! Some people have reached out to me regarding this matter so we'll see how it goes! On a separate note, if you guys wanna see an unofficial Spanish playthrough of Mushroom Oasis, go visit Skentric's channel.
If you guys do wish to translate the game, please ask permission from me first. While the idea of translating isn't as intimidating to me as before, I'd at least like to know who did it as well as the manner of distribution (in which case I only hope it's through the official itchio page).
