Dizzee Rascal - Boy in Da Corner
An amazing record that changed almost everything about rap music in the uk but sadly most Americans are not that into Dizzee. This album is fucking such a great listen tho, so if you haven't heard it definitely go for it.
A lot of these songs have such insanely catchy choruses and the beat creation, all done by Dizzee Rascal as well, was completely unlike anything that had existed up until that point, in terms of popular appeal and pushing boundaries. I'll admit I'm pretty stoned, but that only makes this record even more perfect of a vibe. Definitely such a treat, that anyone, metal head, rap fan, whomever should absolutely please please pretty please listen to.
trust me

I was writing a silly rap with my friends, and my verse started with, "I am (my name) the king of the jungle, my favorite English word is bungle," and I got stuck after that.

"American Fiction" Makes the Perfect Argument For Why Drake Is "Not Like Us"
Who know one day I'd be using my English degree to one day formally discuss rap beef? Dreams do come true.
Check out my essay on "American Fiction" and "Not Like Us"!
“No, you not a colleague,
You a f****** colonizer”
Kendrick Lamar, “Not Like Us” (2024)
Content Warning: American Fiction touches on difficult topics, including racism and cultural appropriation, false identities, as well as Blackness as a monolith.
