pt IX good omens on livestream, i'm not ok: S1E4
You did it, Good Omens fandom, my dear maggots. You broke me in every way. Now I'm here, and where I once spent my day peacefully being sad about normal things, I'm now sad about a random fact about nightingales I learned on a British ornithology site and this is just... the brainrot. It's real. Raise brainrot awareness. Prevention is better than the nonexistent cure.
Well, I've procrastinated this post by like 48 hours by drawing fanart and being mopey over Crowley and generally being asleep because I'm still on antibiotics and ill. So let us not procrastinate further. First, episode 4. Tally, hoes!
In preparation for the stream, I gathered two emotional support oranges, only one of which was gaseous, and an apple. This was so that rather than waste an orange on being gay for Crowley I'd use the apple for that, symbolic of his temptation in the Garden of Eden etc. I didn't know how badly this plan would go.
On Discord, our collective loins girded, I noticed with no small suspicion that everyone was muttering about the bookshop and whether I'd be okay. When I demanded frantically what happened to the bookshop (I THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS IN S2) everyone shut up and told me the bookshop was in tiptop shape and it was all tickety-boo and nothing would happen at all in episode 5.
Spoiler alert it is not all tickety-boo.
We start with Aziraphale going for a jog to keep uh fit for exercising with Crowley, and he is interrupted by Gabriel, who is not Jimbriel, and is not naked, that is, we cannot see his arse yet, but we can see that he is an arse.
We then see not-Newt the deliveryman with his wife Maude and they are the only straight couple that the people on the chat care about. Calling him not-Newt is going to pose problems for me.
Crowley is being a smart baby, and researching astronomy. Poor Crowley. I love Crowley. Do you understand? I LOVE CROWLEY.
There is a lot of talk of spoons and forks and such innuendos. I make a joke about scissors being missing. The chat does not notice. I am disappointed in the gays.
I am so engrossed in the way Death says "deeAaaAAthHHhh" that I fail to notice Not-Newt get killed delivering a message to Death. This is going to pose problems for me.
I forgot about the apocalypse plotline till the horsepeople arrive. This is understandable. I care not for this 'world' ending, my new world is Crowley. I love Crowley.
Duck aliens fucking descend. This is not a joke. There are duck aliens, and they are supportive of trans people. Newt does not count their nipples.
The Shad guy doesn't care Newt found aliens. He is upset that Newt didn't find witches. If Shad was mowing his lawn and found gold, he would toss it aside because he is focused on mowing. I can respect that. People make jokes about Newt eventually finding a witch.
It is suddenly a Christopher Nolan movie. Someone corrects me and says it's more like Jerry Bruckheimer. I do not know what that is.
Someone says Crowley destroys the Bentley but for whatever reason, like a lot of people before, makes it a black box that you have to click to read. I don't mind that, I like clicking.
Aziraphale bought out a theatre for Crowley, like a Kdrama where the rich CEO buys out an entire theatre for his working class girl.
Adam goes through what I went through with OCD. It is not fun.
It is now a horror movie. Adam floats in the air. That was not a symptom I had with OCD.
Crowley asks Aziraphale to run away with him to the stars. Aziraphale says no. Crowley is upset and my baby Azi looks so sad and confused about everything he believes in. Great. I'm totally fine, I think as I start stuffing my emotional support orange into my mouth.
It is now a Home Alone movie. Crowley in gloves is sexy. Mmmmmmm yes. Crowley does great advertising for plant spray bottles as he murders and threatens demons.
I point out that the GO book says Crowley can do "weird things with his tongue" as I learned from the GO scent guide company page. It was after all the most relevant take-away from that page.
Disco Tony arrives. This is not a safe space.
AZIRAPHALE KEEPS TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND IS FAILED BY HEAVEN LEAVE MY BABY AZI ALONE WTF GO AWAY. THE ANGELS WALL SLAM HIM TOO. THAT'S CROWLEY'S THING YOU BASTARDS.
Newt and Anathema are cute. I DON'T NOTICE BECAUSE IM SO UPSET HE'S CHEATING ON MAUDE AND WONDERING WHY THE CHAT IS OKAY WITH IT BECAUSE I AM A FOOL WHO CONTINUES TO MIX UP NEWT WITH NOT-NEWT AND THEN THE CHAT TELLS ME NOT-NEWT DIED AND I'M CONFUSED.
Newt and Anathema are having sex. As an aspec person, I am very alarmed at the visuals.
Azi is failed by heaven and the metatron. Shocker. Fucking get away from Azi. Azi is miserable and looks like he wants to cry.
AZI IS EXORCISED AND THE FUCKING FLAME CATCHES IN THE BOOKSHOP AND THE EPISODE ENDS.
TAKE MY PAIN MOTHERFUCKERS. I WILL POST THIS AND THEN WRITE THE EP5 PART.

The dark abyss that is Andor
There were several things that led to Andor.
On the one hand, Disney screwed up its Star Wars intellectual property by handing it to complete hacks for Episode VII to IX, leading a potential cash cow to attract less and less viewers over the course of three increasingly bad installments. Seriously, The Last Jedi is one of the worst disappointments I've actually watched, and not only was I thinking "This can't get worse..." every five minutes only to be proven, "Yes, it can!!", it completely killed my appetite to see IX (and I would have left the cinema at that one's sheer stupidity). With VII, I saw it once with some initial excitement in a cinema when it released and a strange feeling afterwards, and I never revisited it. VIII I saw on two separate long-distance flights because I couldn't stomach the thing in one sitting. IX I didn't see at all, but devoured YouTube videos ripping it apart. Clearly, Disney had a Star Wars problem.
The other thing is the reboot that was The Mandalorian, especially season 1. The Mandalorian had a penchant for not very strong logic in its writing that you still accepted because you had so much damn fun and loved the characters. Given the fact that it clearly pulled lots of viewers into Disney+ that were loving its vibe that was true to the core of Star Wars, Disney management saw the fact that theaters and theme parks were closed due to COVID on the one hand and that big Star Wars movies were at risk of actually losing money on the other hand, and they did what executives are wont to do - they decided that if it worked once, it will work again and declared they will pump out TEN Star Wars series in the near future.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile they cancelled also their ongoing series of "A Star Wars Story" movies that started with what could be called "Episode III.5" - Rogue One. Rogue One was plagued with production problems, so much so that seeming key scenes from the trailer weren't in the movie. "I rebel!", anyone?? Still, it turned out to be something new - a new kind of Star Wars story. It took the idea of a war movie (or its modern equivalent, Band of Brothers) and put it into the Star Wars cinematic universe. It did without an actual Jedi (kinda-sorta) and it showed a strong performance of Diego Luna as the morally gray Cassian Andor. And... (spoiler alert) ... it killed its whole cast in its finale.
I know people that say Rogue One is their favorite Star Wars movie. (But other people dislike it.) I hold it in high esteem. The way the resistance is portrayed also seemed to be somewhat subversive - both to its previous image on screen and to what is portrayable on screen for mainstream audiences in general. It became clear that unlike in the original three Star Wars movies resisting an empire is, on the ground, a dirty business and not just about big battles or commando raids. (Which then happen anyway. Because Star Wars.)
Tumblr media
Then followed the lackluster Solo and the third installment Yoda was never made as Star Wars increasingly lost its ability to draw crowds into seats.
And thus it came to Andor
Now what do you do with a character that (spoiler alert? really?) dies. You make a bloody prequel. Which is funny. Andor is a prequel to Rogue One which is a prequel to A New Hope. Prequels, like sequels, carry the risk of rehashing the original material without adding anything to it (Solo ...) and being trapped by the inevitability of what has to happen next, curtailing its writing (Kenobi ...). But Andor season 1 betrays none of that. (Talk about being addicted to prequels, Disney...) It is a strong piece of cinematic art in its own right.
And yes, I'm saying art. About a Star Wars series. That's how I feel about it. Andor not only has strong execution, it has depth. It was a show that made me pause it and think about what just happened on screen. It's a show that gets deeper if you know about history, unlike most shows that actually reveal their shallowness to the knowing eye. (Looking at you, The Man in the High Castle. Boy, I hated that tripe.)
But even before we get into that, let me say how I impressed I was with its set and costume design. Whereas the Book of Boba Fett gave us cyberpunks on floating scooters, Andor poured a lot of heart into how everybody looked in their various environments, creating a more rich and varied Star Wars society by portraying various strata thereof, from the life of imperial senator Mon Mothma to the middle class living literally in her shade somewhere on the middle levels of planet-city Coruscant to the mining town labor class that we find Cassian in. It flawlessly cuts between different well-thought out locations, including, of all things, a holiday resort.
Tumblr media
This is paired with some very strong performances by similarly strong actors. I mean, we all knew Stellan Skarsgard would deliver, sure. But Denise Gough absolutely kills it, acting-wise. Her delivery as a villain is perfect, the way she manages to always look so sour and annoyed already is quite something, how she normalizes evil into a technocrat career. Every flinch of her face conveys books of information to me as the fascinated viewer. She is at the heart of this series, and worth the price of admission alone.
And let's not forget Andy Serkis' heart-rending performance. Really, we're being spoiled. People are seriously acting, not just standing in front of a camera wearing costumes! In Star Wars!!
And yet, if it was only that, it still wouldn't have impacted me as deeply as it had. There's one more layer to this, and it's the massive bottom of the iceberg that is Andor. I haven't forgotten, even though I'm writing this a year after watching it.
(And definitely spoilers from here on onwards.)
Life under fascism
The second half of season 1 however can put deep horror into any thinking person's mind. It radically departs from previous portrayals of the evil Empire. It's not relying on cheap gimmicks like Episode VII where we see a village razed by the First Order. (So evil. So cliche, too. Also murdering Max von Sydow. Tsk, tsk. They had to get him off stage before any good acting happens...) Andor creeps under our skin and then reaps havoc.
(This part of this entry will become increasingly dark. You might not want to read on. Because fiction is one thing, and comparing it to historical reality is another. This is an actual trigger warning. Proceed with care.)
The first half of the season is standard fare, almost. Cassian gets himself in trouble and there is really no redeeming quality about it. He also gets everybody else into trouble. The Empire in its heavy-handed hurry to eradicate resistance actually creates it in the first place. And still... the lack of compunction about torture, about going victim by victim, vanishing people into its torture cells, breaking them... this is merely an overture. No hero is born here, but evil wears its mask imperfectly.
Tumblr media
Cassian escapes his small world to eventually live the good life on a resort world, getting laid, pretending to be someone else. Instead of being caught as the fugitive and murderer and partisan he actually is by now, he simply gets caught up in the arrest of somebody else. The way the Empire "perpetrates justice" not only gets him arrested while having done no wrong (in that cover identity), he also gets sentenced by a court that doesn't even pretend to actually care about due process in any way. There's a machine of oppression, and instead of competently catching him, Cassian becomes caught up randomly in one of its many gears.
And while this may seem random, it's brilliant. It's one of the many reasons why resistance exists. Because the Empire's overreach is everywhere, grinding up people just living their lives while trying to perfect its control. The corruption of the desire for power leaks through in its banality.
What follows is Cassian's imprisonment, and this segment is brutal and horrifying on a deep level. The more you know, the worse it gets. Cassian is transported to a prison facility where he's forced into repetitive labor to make equipment for the Empire. There's a set of steps every labor team has to execute, and the team with the lowest quota gets punished with electric shocks. Day after day.
This is "Vernichtung durch Arbeit." ("Destruction through labor.") This is what the Nazis did to their political opponents. Before there was a Holocaust, there were concentration camps. And prisoners were made to work - the cynic motto across the gate of Auschwitz was "Arbeit macht frei." ("Labor sets you free.") People would gradually be ground down until they gave out in one way or another, fell sick, die of exhaustion, broke psychologically. The series never tells us its "inspiration," it just goes through similar motions. With the veneer of a super-clean techno prison over it.
Tumblr media
Not only that, the very scene reminded me of what I read in a book about the Holocaust. Towards the end of the war the engines for the new secret weapon jet planes or rockets were manufactured by prison labor. Crews of malnourished prisoners would each execute a few pretrained steps and crank out more jet engines in slave labor than was previously done in the Reich's armament factories. This was the culmination of the Nazi system where all labor-intensive things like the bunkers of the Atlantic Wall or the underground factories of Dora-Mittelbau were erected by and on the back of slaves that were themselves gradually killed in the process.
Without ever breathing a word of what is portraying, Andor portrays the same. Skillfully, horribly so.
The devil is in the details
Some way into this horror, everybody gets their sentence doubled. The counter simply goes up. No explanation. Total helplessness in the face of total control. The deep gut feeling of "No one gets out here alive" or "It will never end" begins to descend. That number was a sort of life line for people to brave another day. And it lies!
As unbelievable as it may seem, people did get released from concentration camps, especially those on "lighter charges" like "antisocial behavior." But nobody really knew how long they had to stay or if they were to be released. Often, initially told they had to do 3 to 6 months depending on their conduct, and yet most people never left alive. A quick read in a book behind me says that 8 million people were sucked into the system, 7 million died, 200,000 left by being released by the system itself. The idea you might be released one day added false hope that in itself could create further psychological torture if it was dashed over and over again.
Then there is the "divide and conquer" approach to prisoner management. Work crews are led by other prisoners, rebellion and resistance is quelled within the ranks. This Andor merely hints at, but the Nazi oppression system skillfully created hierarchies to make sure a comparatively small detachment of guards could handle a large mass of inmates which could overwhelm them if acting together.
But it doesn't stop here, not in Andor, either. Eventually we learn that the Empire starts to eliminate the prison population. Rumors start to spread that an entire floor of the super prison was eliminated by electrocution. Just like the real Nazis the space Nazis start to construct yet another death machine to eliminate opposition.
Tumblr media
And this leads to that sub-plots final chapter, the prison revolt. There are a few historical mass escapes, even from Nazi death camps. There's also the heroism of the two uprisings of Warsaw (including the ghetto uprising). Left with nothing to lose, left with nothing but death ahead, the prisoners overwhelm the guards.
And this happened in real life, too. It's probably based on the historical case of the death camp inmates that were forced to run the gas chambers and crematoria themselves. This is part of the Holocaust itself, the Nazis had finally dropped all pretenses and resorting to kill people in an industrial manner. And these people knew that eventually their whole detachment would be killed. They knew too much, were witnesses to this massive crime against them and humanity itself. They were also among those destined for death. Like in an antechamber of hell itself they were merely bidding time. So they managed one of the few mass escapes on record.
While Andor doesn't stray as far down the road as actual history does, it knows how to cite history for those who know. It's not made up of whole cloth. It actually is referencing the real history of the most inhumane version of fascism, but it does not put the fact in your face. But if you know, its chamber of horrors becomes so much deeper.
And that's why
This is what makes Andor an absolute masterpiece. It recreates the conditions without blindly copying the source. It adapts, but you can feel how deeply inhumane the circumstances are that it depicts. It gives you the bloody creeps, and even if you don't know how much it is rooted in darkness, you will still feel it. It shows. It tells. But it never spoils the source material.
This is art. This is the deep craft. The banality of evil, the careless, uncaring attitude of evil towards those it deems unworthy and not human. It's all on display. It switches us into the place of Cassian and of Andy Serkis' character as it draws us in as audience. We don't see what happens on other floors. We don't have the information advantage. We can only imagine. We are subjected to the fact that we can only imagine it. And so we share a bit in the plight of these characters. Sometimes not showing a thing is the highest accomplishment of movie making.
And this is why I'm pissed that a series that was planned for five seasons was already cut to play out in two. Because we need more of this and less of more Jedi doing backflips. Just like Loki plays on a completely different level than the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Andor leaves all of Star Wars in its dust. If Rogue One was the attempt to tell a different kind of story in the same universe, Andor is the attempt at a different level of depth.
And this, more than Rogue One, makes it clear why they fight.
Watch it if you can.
And sorry if I horrified you.

Familiar Faces
Pairing: Kai3po
Word Count: 916 Words
Summary: C-3PO has a chat with a stranger. All aboard the angst train!
Warnings: Spoilers for St.ar Wa.rs Episode IX (Ri.se of Skyw.alker), mentions of loss.
Tumblr media
“Excuse me…”
Blue eyes glance up meet his photoreceptors, and with her attention now on him, the droid continues.
“I don’t believe we’ve met quite yet.” He extends a hand to the woman, seated on a bench, sketchpad in hand.
“I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations.”
The woman stares at him for a moment, expression unreadable, before she holds out a hand, using the other to steady the sketchbook now resting in her lap.
“…Kaiyo.”
The name seems familiar, though he’s not sure why. Perhaps it was just one of the many names of the resistance members his new friend R2-D2 had told him about.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Kaiyo,” he says, hand still in hers. He stiffens as he notices the ring on her finger before her other hand returns to rest in her lap. He debates asking about who holds the other ring, but quickly decides against it. Instead, he gestures to the sketchpad.
“May I ask what it is you’re working on? Are you an artist?”
Her lips quirk up in a smile that fails to reach her eyes.
“You could say that…”
She hesitates a moment before motioning for the droid to sit down, shifting her body to give him a better view of her sketchpad.
“Ah, is that…a starspeeder?”
“Mhm,” she affirms, turning the page to reveal more mock up sketches. “Ever since the fall of the First Order, I’ve had some more time on my hands.”
“This is quite an exquisite design, I must say,” Threepio compliments, “I am by no means an expert on starspeeders, but this one looks unlike any I’ve ever seen.”
He notices the human flush, what he has come to understand as a response to deep embarrassment…or flattery.
“Thank you. Well, you’re right, it doesn’t exist…yet. I’m working with a friend of mine who’s more adept at this kinda thing. They’re going to handle most of the actual inner workings. But…” she sighs, smiling, “I love creating new designs.”
The woman continues to eagerly show him more sketches, some of starspeeders like the first one, and others random drawings of wildlife, plants, and creatures. She seemed closed off at first, but she prattles on with an infectious enthusiasm that the droid can’t help but be drawn to. He feels as though he’s known her for longer than five minutes, combined with distant glimpses of her around the base. However, he was only activated a few weeks ago; such a thing, though strange, simply isn’t possible.
Kaiyo has flipped to another page, though she abruptly stops her excited rambles, eyes suddenly hardened at the sight of what’s on the next page. He looks down to see what the fuss is about and…oh.
“Is that…a self portrait?”
He is mainly able to tell because of the ponytail, though the anguished looking woman on page has a striking resemblance to the one sitting next to him, stiff as a board. Her eyes dart from the page to him, hand poised above the page like she wants to rip it off, crumple it up, or burn it. Maybe all of those things. Instead, she sighs.
“I didn’t mean to show you that. I…drew it as a form of self expression.”
He’s almost afraid to ask. After all, prying into one’s personal affairs is improper. However, he doesn’t need to pry when the words come pouring out of her like a leaky faucet.
“I drew it shortly after the battle on Exegol. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of us were happy to finally see the actual end of Palpatine, but…” she traces the portrait’s face almost as if she’s trying to comfort the sketched version of her.
“No war is won without costs. And he was a hefty one.”
“He?”
Her eyes widen, shaking her head as she realizes her slip up.
“Um…no one, I shouldn’t have said that…uh—“
“It’s perfectly alright if you don’t want to talk about it, Miss Kaiyo.”
“I haven’t for a while—or at least, it seems like it, but…” she fiddles with her ring, pointedly avoiding his attentive gaze.
“My husband…made a sacrifice. It saved the galaxy, and it was by no means the wrong choice. I’m…glad he did it.”
The shininess of her cheeks say otherwise.
“I’m sure that was difficult to learn of…but I’m sure it was a choice he made not just because of the galaxy, but because you’re a part of it, too.” He pauses. “I’m terribly sorry for your loss.”
She says nothing in return, even when he instinctively reaches up to swipe away a tear. His hand is metal, so it doesn’t help much, but it’s the gesture that counts, or so he thinks. Kaiyo seems to agree, reaching up to grasp his hand, still holding her cheek. She seems to lean into his touch, and it feels familiar, it feels natural, it feels—
“Threepio!”
Kaiyo yanks herself away at the sound of footsteps, quickly rubbing her eyes with her sleeve. The young recruit bows in apology for interrupting, explaining that the droid’s presence was requested by General Organa herself. The droid follows, bidding her goodbye, and Kaiyo watches. Her eyes flit down to the sketchpad, and in a fit of frustration she shuts it, tossing it next to her on the bench.
Dammit, Kaiyo. You’re supposed to be moving on from this. But how can you move on from someone who is only partially gone? The same person, just without everything that made him yours?
Note: I made this with the thought of “what if Threepio didn’t get his memory restored?” Because I think about that a lot and I enjoy the angst.

SPOILERS AHEAD so thread carefully
Ok, so I was finally able to watch the first 4 episodes of TBB S3 and here are my thoughts so far:
— I do not, and I repeat, I do NOT like the M-count thing on Omega. Is just lazy writing, I now know why Asajj is here, ugh, she was special enough as she was, she was a female, pure genetic replication clone, and that was enough, I don’t like Omega being Force sensitive, it is not necessary, not everything has to do with the Jedi and such. I have my theories but I need more info and I hope I’m wrong
— I love the change in Crosshair during the 1st episode, he changed from, “we’re all doomed” to “at least I’m gonna help her escape”
— I don’t know about you all but I counted the days on Omega’s window and the last count was 5 months and 14 days until the Emperor arrives. I feel bad for all 4 of them.
— Project Necromancer, obvious reference to Snoke and episode IX and not something we’ll like to remember tbh
— I also enjoyed very much that Omega showed traits of all of Crosshair’s brothers to him, a bit of Tech, Hunter, Wrecker and even Echo reflecting on that little girl would certainly warm his heart
— In my opinion the escape and reunion of the clones seems a bit rushed for me, I thought it was going to take at least 2 more episodes, perhaps see a little bit more of Hunter and Wrecker, I’m not complaining, it just makes me anxious for the rest of the season
— Broke my heart seeing how worn out Hunter and Wrecker’s armors are
— In the matter that is currently diving the fandom on the reaction of Hunter and Wrecker seeing Crosshair, I say, leave them alone, they’re still raw and hurt because they lost Tech and were running like madmen, crossing the galaxy (5 times) for 5 MONTHS in search for their little girl, they have a lot of mix feelings and we should let them be, let them work it out, it’ll get better later anyway
— Wrecker is going to love Batcher
— I’m keeping my eye on that suspicious black helmet soldier, I read somewhere that he might be the a spy clone but who knows
This is all I have for now, I’m just waiting with excitement and terror the next episode tomorrow.
Bye everyone!

okay but what does kylo ren actually do. like how does he move the plot forward? why should we care about him? the moment we learned about his backstory i was like what a pale fucking imitation of anakin. why even bother. to make matters worse kylo ren doesn't have half the style and class darth vader had.
anakin's tragic villain backstory: was a slave for the first nine years of his life, his mom was tortured to death, had visions of his wife dying all while a secret Sith Lord groomed him from literal childhood
ben's tragic villain backstory: luke was worried he might be evil.
like. seriously? the light-dark-light story doesn't need to be told again in the same franchise. it's pointless, not poetry.
on the other hand the idea of rey being palpatine's granddaughter is wasted. there's a reason the dark rey spoilers ahead of episode ix got everyone so excited. she should have started off there and become the hero.

season 5 spoilers and leaks rambles
if it were up to me... adrien would discover monarch’s identity thanks to the monocle he found in s4 finale, independently of ladybug. him and marinette would discover their identities during the 2nd part of kwami’s choice, or at least lb and cn sould have had a moment before they give up their miraculous for the episode and marinette and adrien would discover their identities thanks to their love, and with time they spend together, they would realize lb/marinette and adrien/cn are merging together, they have same mannerism, and basically, the power of their love would be stronger than quantum masking, until one day, they are staing into each others eyes and they can’t even tell - is it mari/lb?? kitty/adrien?
also nathalie would give adrien the amok ring before he’s off to london, telling him it was his mom’s, and she would want him to have it bla bla.. . and gabriel would give him the second one in the finale, before the wish. the “gabriel helped ladybug and chat noir against monarch” would be a story for the public, but adrien would know the truth.
i don’t love that emilie was revived. it feels as if gabriel won. in the end he did manage to manipulate the world according to his wishes........
also, adrien should be the one to help marinette with the jewels, like he made the amulet for her birthday, he is capable of creating accessories. they would create them together. lb and cn are supposed to be partners, but in s4 and s5 it just seems like all talk no show. this would rebalance their roles as miraculous holders.... and adrien and marinette would metaphorically become parents of the kwamis.
i just can’t believe.... adrien was completely 100% absent from the finale. everything and their mother turned up, all the crossover heroes from around the world... i thought it was miraculous tales of ladybug and chat noir... not miraculous bugnoire while adrien is asleep in london.
I still enjoy the show, it is what it is and i am having fun with it (unlike with SW after ep IX looooool that one was such a trainwreck i am still traumatized)... i just expected something else back when i first began watching the show, and some choices they’ve made just don’t feel right to me, it doesn’t click together like a puzzle, if you know what i mean.

Spoilers for TBB season 3 under the cut!
I have been thinking so much about Omega's force sensitivity. The dynamic in the show is that Palpatine needs it, and Nala Se doesn't want him to get it. And the respective motivations for those two characters are moderately clear -- Palpatine has his project necromancer that likely connects to episode IX, and Nala Se is his victim and doesn't want to give him any more (and is also trying to protect Omega).
But those dynamics weren't entirely in place at the time of Omega's creation, nor when she was made force sensitive (whenever that was, which admittedly isn't clear). Why was she made that way?? And who knew about it? Obviously not Palpatine, even though he was so connected to almost everything else cloning-wise. Surely no Jedi were aware of it. It doesn't make sense for Dooku to have known about it either -- why would he have done that, or have kept it secret from Palpatine?
Even within the Kaminoans it was a secret! Clearly it wasn't recorded anywhere. Even Lama Su didn't know of it, I think -- in season 1 he only thinks of Omega as a carrier of the pure genome. Later in season 2 he only mentions her as a method of controlling Nala Se -- I don't think he would have brought her up to Hemlock if he had any idea that she'd be so vital to his evil plans.
So. Why did Nala Se make Omega force sensitive?? Why would that interest her?? And who was she talking to to make this happen? I really hope the show explores that a little bit.

I LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!
Uh... I have no real justification or excuse as to why I've been slacking on these, but uh
Well, I just didn't feel like doin' it. Whoops. I spent practically every waking moment of the past couple weeks replaying Pokémon Rejuvenation, so... Y'know, you get it right?
Anyways Geats! He's Geod, I think. Not pronounced "Jod". Back into it I go. Twofer special~!
Spoilers, I guess...
-DGP is out the door.
-Now everybody knows.
-Hello, Sis. You're still here~!
-Well, I made my bed last episode, I might as well lay in it. Zagizuki reporting for duty, Geats-P.
-The OP has changed once again. Just our main four now.
-Sara-san~!
-...there's something really funny to me about Keiwa considering the idea he just lost his Driver in the couch cushions.
-Oh hai, Buffa~!
-...I wonder if Buffa's construction company had Keiwa's resume in their system?
-Oh, Ace gave it back to everybody, huh?
-That means we might be seeing Sumida and Morio soon.
-...also in case you were wondering, yes I have seen the trailer with Grandpa Tanba and Sae-neesan, I'm not totally out of the loop!
-Can't repair ID Cores, huh?
-He hungy
-Oh my god, he's putting all that away.
-Tsumuri-neesan.
-Hah
-I have to wonder just how much older Tsumuri is than A. ...y'know chronologically, I know there's a four year difference between Kan-san and Aoshima-san.
-Oh, we ballin'
-...I get really nervous when I see people skateboard without helmets.
-Oh hello, copper.
-Oh, Jyama Time!
-They didn't even bother cleaning up the Jyamato.
-That is profoundly neglectful.
-Geats can board, huh?
-Boost! Mk. IX!
-OH HE SMALL
-Ace~!
-Buffa and Keiwa appear!
-Oh okay, guess we're talking about this with these skater dudes out in the open.
-"Don't worry, I'm in charge now."
-No reward other than satisfaction.
-Neon's finally striking out on her own properly this time!
-"It's fiiiiiine, right?"
-I can respect that.
-Furnitureless behavior.
-Girls day out!
-Wiiiin, hello!
-Even God is broke in this economy.
-The pearly gates are made of tapioca.
-DGP Geats Style.
-I see Keiwa still harbors a measure of resentment for Mama Mitsume.
-Jyama Garden!
-Is that sap? ...please tell me that's sap.
-An interloper!
-Those're man tracks.
-Can't put Kamen Rider on your resume.
-...come to think of it, I wonder if you could say you were officially employed as a Rider? Like, say, as a user of the Birth System or one of BOARD's agents. You definitely would be able to if you were employed to the government like SAUL or AIMS, but would there be some kind of necessary legal disclosure you'd put out if you were like... a Kurokage Trooper or something like that?
-...I love asking all the wrong questions, this is why I do these <3
-It's a little guy! Just a little guy!
-Ohhhhhh!
-Hey there, Kousei! You motherfucker~! Now everybody gets to know!
-"Burn your paper trail and head to Tijuana by Saturday morning."
-Get 'im!
-Nice to see she's lost none of her experience.
-Real cute, fox man.
-Oh hai Kekera!
-A Visa.
-Whoa, that was a nice kick.
-That almost looked totally real there, I'm impressed.
-Ah yep, Beroba too. I knew that already.
-"boy thinks he's done lmao"
-DAICHI
-Jyama Shin!
-Parasite Game!
-Must be Cordyceps.
-Oh, Samas! You're here too!
-His creation with ours.
-Oh
-Hi there.
-I uh... think I recognize you.
-Ryuji Sato (not to be confused with Ryuga Sato), you played Sasuke in the Naruto stage show.
-Oh, you were Teruhiko in Shun's first limelight episode in Fourze!
-Hey man, congrats, that's another previous supporting role promoted to major character status!
-Oh, that's the end of the episode. I see.
-Alright, Episode 40, let's go!
-Oh shoot, insert!
-Let's go!
-That's definitely Yuka Terasaki singing.
-A very kind motherly gesture.
-Dejyammed.
-The boys are back in town.
-Good on you Keiwa, you get it.
-Yippee! Riders once again!
-Hello, Mrs. Kurama. Er uh... I suppose you might be in the market for a new sugar baby soon.
-Oh Neon...
-You've got a lot to answer for, Irumi. You, and the old man.
-And off Neon goes.
-Sara-neesan.
-Goddamn, she's supportive.
-J
-Jitto.
-Cheeto.
-If there's one thing I can say about Ryuji-san, he's certainly got range.
-This guy ain't Sasuke at all.
-Oh, they get Premium.
-That's one free century of DezaPlus and 10% off their next subscription renewal.
-Oh, what's that I see on the bottom? Tycoon and Buffa logos? Yep, those're definitely powerups we're getting at some point.
-Sōsei no Megami... Tsu!
-Oh, I get it... Tsumuri.
-Grandpa is out. Nerd is in.
-OH NO MAN DON'T EAT IT THOSE'RE YOUR BABIES
-Even Beroba's more grossed out than anything.
-Oh man I wish jobhunting was that easy.
-"Sakurai NOOOOO! ...actually, hang on, yeeeeees!"
-OHHHHHHHH DAICHI
-...that's not Daichi, is it.
-I really love the ambience of this scene here.
-He may not be infected by the Jyamato, but desperation is its own ever evolving parasite.
-We're going to beat up this nerd.
-"You guys are still the worst, I see."
-Oooooh!
-Oh.
-"That's my boss's sister you're objectifying there. And I don't take kindly to that sort of thing."
-"Good luck with that, Punkjack."
-Buffa gets down to business.
-Oh he no longer has his cape. ...truth be told, I don't think I actually liked it that much.
-Traded in his Riderbane for a lawnmower.
-...y'know, chainsaws were invented by the Scottish for childbirth but now they're used all over the world for gardening.
-Oh, that was a good transition.
-"...TYCOON NO-"
-Oh
-He is crispy looking.
-...he kinda looks like a Kabutops. Is he a trilobite Jyamato?
-Oh and of course Mega Ninetails and Green Linoone can't quite handle him.
-...sorry, I've got Pokémon on the brain.
-Damn, he's really kicking ass.
-Oh, there goes Bouffalant! ...incidentally, Sap Sipper would be quite a good ability to have right now. If you haven't used Bouffalant on a team before, I totally recommend it, it's got nice coverage, good defensive stats, some good abilities-
-Oh
-Oh fuck
-Sara Sakurai died at the hands of Kamen Rider Buffa.
-What was even the point of killing her, Daichi?
-"I did it. It was me."
-Well, to all of you who wanted to see Keiwa lose it-
-There we go.
-Tsumuri-san :(
-Help us, God.
-OHHHHHH THAT'S A COOL SUIT
-Shogun, eh? Oh and he's apparently got a whole-ass sword.
-Not a Real-Ass Goddamn Sword, but-
-Hoo. This is quite a lot I missed, huh?

Thoughts on Ahsoka
For context, I've seen all of Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, Andor, Kenobi, Episodes I-IX, The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, Rogue One, Tales of the Jedi, and Visions 1-2. I've read the new Vader comics, but my knowledge of Legends lore is limited at best. Clone Wars is my favorite piece of Star Wars material. Ahsoka has ALWAYS been my favorite character since she came to the screen in 2008 and I was a small mammal of 8 years old, mostly because of how much I saw myself and who I wanted to be in her. I still do. I am excited for the show, a little apprehensive, and overall hopeful to see more new Star Wars content.
Thoughts on Ahsoka so far (spoilers ahead):
This is definitely Rebels part 2, and that's not a bad thing! Don't expect Clone Wars (maybe not yet at least?). There's some awesome cameos from Rebels!
The longer montrals was a good call. I like the casting of Rosario Dawson for Ahsoka.
Right off the bat with classic shots from Episode IV and V?? BEAUTIFUL.
What happened to Ahsoka's reverse grip?!!
I thought I would not vibe with Sabine's actor but she is quickly becoming my favorite. She has the most accurate transition from animated to live action character so far. I like her a lot.
The return of Huyang!! Him and Sabine are quickly becoming my new favorite pair on screen. David Tennant in Star Wars is great.
Loth cats are cute, still not cuter than Grogu. I like the puppetry skills on the Loth cat. Good fluffy addition. Now add Loth Wolves 😁
CHOPPER 🤩 I LOVE THIS STUPID MURDER BOT EVEN MORE IN LIVE ACTION
Hera and Ahsoka feel very different on screen live action than animated, but still are great!
WHY. CAN. EVERYONE. ELSE. WALK. AWAY. FROM. LIGHTSABER. TO. THE. GUT. This is absurd. Either bring back Qui-Gon, Han Solo, and Satine, or kill Sabine. Star Wars needs to be consistent on its wounds.
NIGHTSISTERS!! I want my witches!!!
I am liking the dynamic of "I was a Jedi" going on among the Force users. The galaxy of the New Republic lacks a clear dichotomy between good and bad. Maybe this whole show will be about how people exist in between the two.
I am SO EXCITED for the World Between Worlds connection! I have been waiting for more about this for ages!!
2 GALAXIES??? Are we breaking away from "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away?" Also, isn't the Deneb system....just...Deneb the star in Cygnus? I have astronomy questions!
Did we get ANOTHER Inquisitor?!?!
Sabine is the FIRST MANDALORIAN JEDI since Tarre Viszla?!?!!! I was REALLY unsure from the trailers what the heck was going on with her character whether or not she was all of a sudden going to become a Force user, but I'm not opposed to it so far. What is the extent of Sabine's Force-sensitivity? Will she be a Padawan with little to no Force skills? I want to see her on a jetpack with a lightsaber and slicing away at droids.
Sabine is a genius in art and tech and a badass fighter. Hera is a genius in flying and mechanics and a badass fighter. Two geniuses, two amazing people. 😁
Go give the show a chance. I'm happy so far seeing my favorite in live action.

a little IRL future spoilers/speculation:
the tochigi film society posted ep24 & 26 is filmed there (at Ooya = Bugnarok base cave) and now I can see why 25 isn't included because it's set in Shugoddom (studio) so it means the whole team visiting the Bugnarok base in 26 (and that plot wrapped up in the same episode) is looking firm 🤔 Deathnarok turned giant next ep so he's dead, what are they searching for in 26? (unless they are reviving him as Deathnarok IX) Who will tell them the history prior to 2000 years ago? (ehto, Shido-san/Rainoir said his schedule is open in November.)

Darth Sidious Appreciation Post!
Tumblr media
I have SO much love for this character. Palpatine is the main villain of the entire Star Wars franchise, and arguably one of the greatest villains of all time. I felt the need to gush about why I love him so much and what makes him so great. There are a lot of little traits and tropes that I tend to be drawn to in characters, and Palpatine manages to check off pretty much ALL of them. This post will be long, so I’m throwing it all under a cut. Spoilers ahoy!
Star Wars is, as the name suggests, all about a galaxy that is constantly at war. It is a vast, ever-expanding saga, with countless films, books, comics, TV shows, and video games all constantly adding new chapters, new characters, and new perspectives to the story. The lore and history of the Star Wars universe has grown considerably, of course, but during the core story and present time of Star Wars - which spans nine films, and far too many spin-offs to count - Palpatine, AKA Darth Sidious, is the main antagonist, finishing off a revenge plan that had been in the works for a thousand years before him.
I’ve always loved villains, but I’ve always had an especially high regard for manipulative, mastermind-type villains, who are revealed to have orchestrated everything on their own behind the scenes. And Palpatine is very much the personification of this type of character. In all three film trilogies - and the eras in the Star Wars timeline that come with those trilogies - Palpatine was in the background, directly responsible for each massive conflict.
In the prequel trilogy, Palpatine came off as a kind, empathetic man. He was a Senator for the small backwater planet of Naboo, who eventually rose up to become Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic after Naboo was involved in a crisis. However, behind the scenes, Palpatine was the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, manipulating events and manufacturing that crisis to garner galactic attention and sympathy to ensure his route to the chancellorship. Once he was in power as the head of the senate and the Republic, he manufactured another, much larger crisis, throwing the entire galaxy into a war where he controlled both sides and benefited no matter the outcome. Publicly, he was the head of the Republic, but as Darth Sidious, he was the leader of the Separatist movement against the Republic. At the end of this war, he declared himself Emperor, with all of the unlimited power that came with it, and threw the entire Jedi Order into extinction.
In the original trilogy, Palpatine has even more political power and influence, having shown his true colors to disband the senate, create super-weapons to scare the masses into obedience, and placing his own sycophants and followers into positions of power beneath him. A rebellion forms to take down the oppressive empire and put an end to Palpatine’s rule. Although he largely avoids the public spotlight, preferring to experiment and plot behind closed doors while his minions do the dirty work, he gets directly involved in Episode VI, Return of the Jedi. Palpatine continues to show his penchant for manipulation and foresight, using spies and false information to lure the rebels into traps and control the narrative.
The sequel trilogy seems to be pretty controversial, especially Palpatine’s inclusion in Episode IX, The Rise of Skywalker. Honestly, I was thrilled to see him back, and Rise of Skywalker was one of my favorite Star Wars movies - I know, people usually react badly when I say that. But, for better or for worse, Palpatine reveals himself as the mastermind behind the sequel trilogy, having transferred his consciousness into a decrepit clone body and once more controlling things from behind the scenes. He creates Snoke and puts him in charge of the First Order, a successor to the fallen empire, as a way to secure power and set the stage for his own eventual return to glory.
In the Expanded Universe, before the Star Wars continuity was rebooted to make way for the sequel trilogy, Palpatine did resurrect himself in a clone body in one of the many post-Return of the Jedi stories, but the overall narrative of Star Wars largely moved away from Palpatine’s machinations into newer territory, though it still dealt a lot with the fallout of Palpatine’s actions, those loyal to him attempting to reestablish his empire, etc.
Another trait I tend to love in characters, and one that many of my favorite characters ever possess, is when they take on a mentorship role, or have some kind of parental feelings toward other characters. I work with kids, I take my work as a mentor very seriously, and only recently came to realize that I have spent most of my life, even before my current career path, loving characters that also take others under their wing... even though, since I love villain characters, those mentor relationships are usually super toxic and unhealthy. Villains are a fun way to explore the dark side of our psyches, our consciousness, and seeing how horribly those kinds of nurturing relationships can go wrong because of those villains, or seeing how even the most irredeemable sociopaths find some good in themselves in their relationship with their mentee, is also kind of fun to explore. Palpatine has SEVERAL of these toxic mentor relationships - and actually, Star Wars as a whole is full of mentor/student relationships and the idea of leaving a legacy with the next generation, which probably is part of why I have so much love for Star Wars as a franchise.
The Legends novel Darth Plagueis is, so far, the only source to go deeply into Palpatine’s past, and it is sadly now non-canon. In it, Palpatine was a teen when he met Darth Plagueis and was taken in as his apprentice. Palpatine was troubled, hated his family, and actually grew close to his master. Plagueis was seeking to do away with the Sith custom of the apprentice murdering the master to acquire power and take in an apprentice of their own; instead opting to study ways to become immortal and, together with Sidious, rule together forever. Sidious, however, betrayed his master and murdered Plagueis in cold blood.
The first apprentice Sidious had was Darth Maul, a young Zabrak. In the Plageuis novel, Palpatine took him in as an apprentice while he himself was still apprentice to Plagueis, though that may no longer be canon. Maul was practically a slave to Sidious, taken against the boy’s will and tortured and abused into a loyal, brainwashed weapon. Maul was totally obedient to Sidious, but his master never really saw him as a true apprentice - just a blunt instrument to carry out his whims. When Maul died, Palpatine seemed to show no remorse or grief at all. When he resurfaced in the Clone Wars, Sidious saw him as a rival and moved to destroy him with no mercy. (I also need to say, that lightsaber battle in Clone Wars where Sidious dual-wielded against Maul and Savage Oppress is MY FAVORITE FIGHT IN THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE GAH IT’S SO COOL)
The relationship between Palpatine and his next apprentice, Count Dooku, is one that hasn’t been too deeply explored - at least, not in any of the Star Wars material I’ve consumed. (If anyone out there knows of material that explores this, please let me know, I’d love to see it!) Dooku fell into Palpatine’s clutches at a much older age, having several disagreements with the Jedi Order and how they are run, which Palpatine exploited to bring Dooku over to the Sith philosophy. Dooku was charismatic, and easily able to act as the face of the Separatists and sway people to his side so that Sidious could stay in the shadows, only known to his highest lieutenants. Sidious constantly tested Dooku’s loyalty and made him prove himself - I suspect this was because, given Dooku’s older age and how much freedom he had as the public face of the Separatists, Sidious felt the need to instill the fear of god in him and keep him constantly aware of who was really in control. Dooku was not as brainwashed or dependent as Maul was, he even attempted to find an apprentice of his own at one point, so Sidious needed other methods to keep him in line.
In the sequel trilogy era, Sidious was keeping a very close eye on Kylo Ren, effectively having a hand in raising him from birth to mold him into the weapon he wanted, mostly through Snoke as a proxy. I also have heard that Palpatine has an adopted son named Gallius Rax in the Aftermath trilogy of books, that he mentored and used as a key piece of his contingency plan in the event of his death, but I have not read those books so I unfortunately don’t know much about it - but I definitely am interested and intend to read those.
And then there’s Anakin Skywalker, AKA Darth Vader. Hoo boy.
Palpatine met Anakin in Episode I, when Anakin was just a child. Palpatine told him that he would be watching his career with great interest.... and he was not lying. For most of Anakin’s life, Palpatine was a mentor to him and practically groomed him. He heaped praise on Anakin, constantly telling him about the enormous potential he had and how much he believed in him. When the Jedi Order pointed out his flaws, Palpatine made it seem like they just took him for granted and didn’t see what he saw. He slowly, subtly, turned Anakin against everyone he knew, and planted himself as Anakin’s only real friend and confidant. He was kind to him, understanding, patient. He preyed on Anakin’s deepest fears and insecurities, making him believe that he had the power and the answers Anakin needed to solve his problems. But then he showed his real colors and Anakin was forced to pick a side, between the Jedi Order he couldn’t trust and the monster who believed in him and had the answers he needed.
When Anakin - as Darth Vader - almost died at the hands of Obi-Wan and is forced to become a cyborg monster, he loses a lot of his value to Palpatine. He also loses the love of his life and his humanity. With nothing else to keep him going but rage and loss and despair, he acts as Emperor Palpatine’s muscle, continuing to serve him but ready to take any opportunity to overthrow and replace him. But, as Emperor, Palpatine now has entire armies at his disposal, countless Imperial officers, a whole legion of Force-sensitive Inquisitors that hunt down the remaining Jedi...
In Return of the Jedi, Palpatine seems very eager to have Luke, Anakin’s son, strike Vader down and replace him as his apprentice. It’s also implied in later movies that Luke striking Palpatine himself down would allow him to possess Luke’s body, as Palpatine later tries to do with his own granddaughter, Rey.
Palpatine is a character that is always on the lookout for his next young, powerful apprentice. He puts up a caring, gentle, fatherly facade to reel them in, but truthfully he doesn’t seem to see anyone as anything more than tools to be used and controlled, and takes no hesitation in tossing them aside once their usefulness runs out, or a shinier new toy comes along.
That duality in his character is fascinating to me. Palpatine is an extremely patient man, his plan to overthrow and take over the Republic was decades in the making, and that whole time he effortlessly gave off that caring mentor facade and fooled an entire galaxy. As Darth Sidious, he was calm, quiet, and heartless, completely detached from emotion or sympathy. Once he took over as Emperor, the Jedi were slaughtered, and there was no reason to hide himself any longer, a whole new side of his personality emerged. He became a cackling, maniacal, croaky monster. There are so many sides to this character.
And it’s worth noting, Ian McDiarmid was phenomenal in the role, clearly enjoyed every minute of playing this character, and chewed the scenery in absolutely every moment of his screentime. Palpatine’s presence and the way he carried himself was very theatrical and extravagant, another trait I tend to love in a lot of my favorite characters. He is just so campy, and there’s a reason so many of his lines have become memes.
Palpatine is basically the devil. He is the ultimate evil of the Star Wars universe, hurting and manipulating so many people in the quest for his own power and immortality. But he is so FUN to watch. His scheming and plotting is super impressive, his relationships are fascinating, and the level of complexity in his character is surprising considering how one-dimensional he initially comes off as.
I love Palpatine. He is, after all, the Senate.

Ok so here's two pics of this goddamn majestic kitsune. Some details: the form is called Geats IX (Geats Nine= Kitsune). The weapon he has is called the Geats Buster QB9 (QB = Kyubi which I believe means Nine-Tailed Fox or just Nine-Tailed). I won't go into any more details for spoiler reasons but it's an amazing form and an amazing episode, especially for Ace's character.

[Image description: Preview panel for the comic strip at the link. Finn and Kylo Ren of Star Wars are dueling with lightsabers on a high gangway. Finn has Kylo Ren at mercy and Kylo Ren has tossed his lightsaber away. Kylor Ren is shouting, "Do it! You've won! Do it!" Unfortunately there are not image descriptions at the main Hero of Three Faces site. End description.]
The Hero of Three Faces is fanfiction crossovers, but it’s comic strips with stick figures, but they’re triangles. Preview panel only. Click here for full cartoon. Or see the on-site navigation tutorial. Or see this blog’s FAQ, or my archive tumblog’s FAQ. Cartoons may contain unmarked spoilers. Cartoons linked from Tumblr 10:00 (Central US time) daily are the previous day’s new update and the posts are pinned to the top of this blog. Cartoons linked from Tumblr 22:00 daily are from the archive and the posts are pinned only during annual summer hiatus of new updates.
For Star Wars day: I drew this about half a year ahead of the premier of The Rise of Skywalker as a scene-I'd-like-to-see for the climax of the upcoming movie. Of course it was nothing like we got and, as I generally do with Three Faces cartoons which turn out incompatible with screen continuity, I removed it from official Three Faces continuity and from Tumblr rerun rotation. ... for about half a year. Then, as I sometimes do with Three Faces which aren't compatible with screen continuity, I decided I like my version better, and i reinstated this one as a fix-it. In fact this is now one of half a dozen Three Faces drawn after The Last Jedi and before the Rise of Skywalker and linked from the archive page special collection columns under Star Wars Episode IX fixits. Which is all by way of saying, when I went to look for a Star Wars archive cartoon for linking today I noticed that the spreadsheet still had this one marked as not for rerunning; so this must be the first time it's been linked from Tumblr since I drew it.
