The Chara Timeline Continues...

Woah!!! Where'd all the color go?? >:(
Part 29 || First || Previous || Next
--Full Series--
I KNOW IT'S BEEN 8 MONTHS SINCE THE LAST UPDATE I WILL EXPLAIN!!!
Hello!
SO. It's a bit hard to describe the feeling of posting only one page to a comic series I've been neglecting for 8 months (which was for a good reason!). I have been intentionally distancing myself from the Undertale and Deltarune communities. Not out of malice or annoyance!!!, more just because I've grown out of it (took me 8 years lol). I wasn't feeling as excited for news updates or gameplay and I realized... I didn't enjoy constantly thinking about the series like I used to. (plus I had little time for other art, comic projects, and real life.)
So I decided to take a loooong hiatus. That was one hell of a smart decision (good job past me). I was able to THINK about other games and shows and interests. I rekindled my love of bugs and nature and SOIL and then I made a full on Hollow Knight comic. And I got to educate people on BUGS (it's been amazing).
But... Today I was reading over the comic for the first time in a long time... and I could see and feel my passion for art literally seep through the page.I remembered how much I tried to breath life into these characters and it inspired me to continue ((literally TODAY)). Because passion pushes me to do what I love :')
COMIC UPDATE:
*cough* Anyways- I wanted to let readers of this comic know that I am still unsure what the future looks like for the series. I have 5 pages scripted and essentially finished. And I do have an end game in mind (even though that may be an extra 30 pages lmao). But drawing this comic takes TIME and A LOT of ENERGY. If you guys know me,,, haha,, I'm really bad at guesstimating times. And I'm even worse at being prepared and on top of things...
I want to submit single pages from now on. AND do minimal coloring. Having multiple COLORED pages was actually wild and I do not know how I did that for so long. I am unsure when the next page will come out (because I am also STILL MAKING MY OTHER COMIC <3), but it will not be out anytime this week.
Thank you guys... From the bottom of my heart. ❤️
#ALSO. Chara has been perpetually pissed like this for 8 months and its really funny to me#I really have no idea how to tag this#its back baby!#for ONE PAGE!!! TWIN RUNES - FAQ
What exactly is this AU about? Twin Runes is essentially a comedic crossover AU between the universes of Deltarune and Undertale. No fancy nicnacs. Just the characters being their chaotic selves. But there might be some darkness lurking up ahead... ____________________
When is the next comic? The comic updates most Sundays at 6:30 PM Central European Time. ____________________
Why is this AU called Twin Runes? The name is more or less a play on the typical naming format of most AU's by featuring the "Runes" part. There are no literal Twin Runes. The whole name is more of a stand in for Undertale and Deltarune as parallel worlds. Hence the "Twin" part. ____________________
When does Twin Runes take place? This AU takes place between a hypothetical Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of Deltarune. On the Undertale side of things, it takes place post neutral route just as Frisk was about to deliver Undyne's letter to Alphys.

How many pages are there going to be? The script for this comic estimates that the comic is going to be 137 pages long (if I don't make any major changes). ____________________
What software do you use to make your art/the comic? I use Clip Studio Paint. ____________________
Is the Player a thing in this AU? The Player(s) lost control over both human children as soon as Frisk entered the world of Deltarune. Essentially, the reader takes on the role of the Player. You have no influence on the outcome of the story anymore. All you can do is watch. Both Kris and Frisk refer to the Player as "It" and "the THING". ____________________
Is there going to be a Weird Route? Due to the lack of Player, all choices made by Kris are now their own. How to engage in battle all depends on Kris, and not the Player. Because of that, there are NO DIFFERENT ROUTES. There is only one route and that one is based on Kris' choices. Because of the lack of save points, there is no "what-if" scenario. ____________________
When Chapter 3 and 4 are released, will it affect the story? Any chapters after Chapter 3 won't affect the story in the grand scheme of things. Twin Runes created a new timeline so to speak. UPDATE: We are nearing the final arc of the story. The script has been long completed and is set in stone. Even with Chapter 3 and 4's release there is no way for me to incorporate anything from Chapter 3 (read the rest of the FAQ) into the story without making a mess of things. Yes, that also includes your favorite character Pluey. UPDATE OF THE UPDATE: Since Twin Runes was created before Chapters 3 and 4, there are bound to be inconsistencies going forward!Luckily, this is an AU, and I designed it to be purposefully off in some parts because I knew I would inevitably be wrong!!!! So no. There won't be any references to Chapter 3 in the comic going forward (since the story takes place between a hypothetical Chapter 3 and 4 [so not the canon ones]) And it won't be moved downwards the timeline. ____________________
How old are the characters in this story? Frisk appears to be around 9 years old. Kris thinks they're 14. (Both Frisk and Kris don't know their actual age.) Chara died when they were around 10-11. Susie is around 15-16 (she was held back once) Ralsei appears to be the same age as Kris. ____________________
What's up with Kris' and Frisk's hair? The red bits of their hair is more or less a representation of their souls. That in turn is also why Chara doesn't have that feature. They are soulless. It's a stylistic choice. ____________________
What's that thing on Kris' chest? It's a scar they got from tearing out their soul.
And why do they have weird lines all over their body? Both Kris and Frisk's anatomy resemble that of ball-jointed dolls. They appear just as markings across their bodies. Think of them as elaborate birthmarks. Kris and Frisk are still made of flesh and blood, but are in fact hypermobile. The reason as to why they do is still a little secret :) People here like to refer to these markings as "puppet limbs". You can get a better look at them and the scar in this artwork
Why does Kris have braces? This is why:
Are old art, comics and asks from your blog part of Twin Runes? Unless stated otherwise, all art that was made prior to the start of the comic are not canon to Twin Runes. That mainly includes the old asks. __________________
Why is Dark World Frisk green? Frisk changes their main sweater colors with Kris when they enter the Dark World.

Could other ghosts see Chara? (pre Darkner transformation) No, only Frisk and Kris were able to see Chara. ____________________
IS KRIS NOW FRISK'S COUNTERPART OR CHARA'S???? :) ____________________
Where are Jevil and Spamton? Are they in Castle Town? The Fun Gang have already fought these two in the previous chapters and added them into their inventory. Outside of that little dream sequence, neither will be making an appearance. ____________________
Is anyone from Undertale Yellow gonna make an apperance? Outside of a tiny cameo from Clover (that has no greater bearing on the story) no one from Undertale Yellow is going to make an appearance. ____________________
How would the characters from Deltarune react if they met their Undertale counterpart? The universe would implode if that happens. ____________________
But what abou- The. Universe. Would. Implode. Next question! ____________________
How did you come up with the idea of Twin Runes? Twin Runes is an offshoot of a separate script I started in 2023. The concept of this script is similar to Twin Runes, but turned on its head. The funny moments in that script made me continue what now is the start of Twin Runes. I pretty much just wanted to see if I am actually capable of drawing a comic to begin with. So... in a way Twin Runes is my first attempt at a comic ever. If I ever finish Twin Runes, then I know I can tackle turning that mammoth project of a script into a comic too. In the grand scheme of things these two projects are sister series. They have A LOT in common and even share similar plot elements. When Twin Runes is over you will automatically also know certain mysteries of The Other Script. ____________________
What is The Other Script? As of this moment I call The Other Script: "Lost in the In-Between". At its core it's an inverse of Twin Runes. I.e. Kris falling into the underground and being aided by Frisk on their quest to return home. The story is considerably more grounded than Twin Runes and so are the characters. Though they do have their silly moments from time to time. The overall mood of that script is a lot darker in nature and it's a 200+ page passion project of mine. The script OF The Other Script is not open to the public. Only a select few people have access to it for proof reading. ____________________
Is there x ship in Twin Runes? The focus of this story is not on shipping. If it's in the game it will very likely be mentioned or brought up, but that's about it. ____________________
What pronouns do the human children use in this story? THEY/THEM FOR ALL OF THEM WITHOUT ANY EXCEPTIONS. That is what they are in this story. This is not open to interpretation. Please respect that. If this is a dealbreaker for you, then unfortunately this story is not for you.
___________________________________________________________
ABOUT FAN CONTENT
Am I allowed to make fanart? ABSOLUTELY! You are very welcome to make fanart if you feel like it. Please let me know if you do by tagging me, so I can share it with everyone to see so that you get the appreciation you deserve! ____________________ Can I use the funny faces you draw for memes or for stuff like memes or for profile pictures? That's what they're here for! ____________________
Am I allowed to translate the comic and post the translation to a different site? I get asked very often by people who want to translate my comic in different languages, so it's quite hard for me to keep up with who asked for permission or not. This is why the comic is free to translate if you like. All I ask is that you are well-versed in the language you're translating it into and to please link the original work with the proper credit given. ------------------------
Am I allowed to dub your comic? See the point above. You are free to dub the comic if you like. The same simple rules apply. With ONE important rule you NEED to adhere to... -----------------------
If I create content off your comic (dubbing, translations, etc...), am I allowed to monetize it? NO. Everything about Twin Runes is NON-PROFIT. Meaning that I don't make any money off this comic either, as it is purely fan content. If I see people making money off my work, I WILL use my right to ask you to remove it.
______________________________________________________________
ABOUT ASKS
Asks will open after a new comic has been released. I will queue the questions from Monday until Friday. Once the queue is full, asks will close. Your questions will then be answered over the course of the week.
Try not to submit multiple asks. If necessary, just keep everything in one post.
Keep in mind that I receive AL LOT of asks. There is no guarantee that every question will be answered.
Questions containing spoilers will not be answered on principle. Wouldn't be as fun if the surprise was ruined, right?
Before leaving an ask (mostly for everyone who's new), please make sure to read the FAQ section above. A lot of times your question might have been answered already.
I love memes and dumb jokes as much as the next guy, but try not to spam
It probably goes without saying, but please stay civil. I want to give everyone the respect they deserve, and naturally like to be treated the same way.
Please be mindful about drawing requests. It is understandable if you're eager to see a certain character drawn in my style, but I do not like to be bombarded by requests. The more it happens, the less likely I am to do it. Be kind and ask nicely.
I don't take unsolicited comic ideas.
Don't use other people's posts that I reblogged to ask me questions! It has happened before and I do not wish to see this!
This isn't an ask blog. The comic has a script that will not deviate. Reader interaction with the characters won't be possible due to the overall "no Player" subplot.
Please do not ask me to put your characters into the story. Like I said, the script is already finished and I'm quite happy with it. Your characters are in better hands with yourself and your own stories. Please have respect for mine.
______________________________________________________________
ABOUT SUBMISSIONS
The submission box is for FANART ONLY!
It is meant for those who do not want to submit their fanart to their own blogs, in case they feel scared or intimidated to do so.
ASKS AND REQUESTS THAT ARE SUBMITTED THIS WAY WILL NOT BE ANSWERED.
Please wait until the ask box opens. You can read more on how asks work in the section above.
______________________________________________________________
REFERENCE SHEETS
The following are ref sheets of characters that don't have established Dark World forms yet (as of writing this comic). The list will be updated as soon as a new character enters the Dark World. Here you will also find references of characters that might appear as surprise cameos, or maybe even completely new faces...

Why [DELTARUNE CHAPTER 4 SPOILERS] is an effective villain: a premature analysis
Y’all I’m literally posting this and then disappearing from the Internet for however long to avoid the spoiler brigade. I haven’t even finished Chapter 4 yet, there could be more I don’t even know. I just cannot sleep and am so wracked with autistic mania that I HAVE to get my thoughts in order or I will explode
Character creation and analysis have always been some of my greatest passions. I still have my Ceroba Ketsukane analysis sitting on the backburner, 24 pages and counting, that exists purely for my own enjoyment. Storytelling fundamentals are things I keep in mind for everything I consume, especially in the context of characters. That being said, known character development strategies can be attributed to Carol Holiday, and why she works SO WELL as a villain imo
Back when J.K. Rowling wasn’t a piece of shit, I watched an interesting video commenting on how Voldemort could have been made more effective as a villain. Which essentially compared him to Umbridge who usually provokes more vitriol within the community and pitched the idea of him casting some sort of life-altering spell on Hermione. I can’t remember the exact details, but it was something to the effect of memory alteration or brain function suppression, to take away the one thing that mattered most to her in life, which was her academic success and pursuit of knowledge, which we see her strive so passionately for throughout the whole series. And then the reader would have to watch her slog through life with no sense of purpose, a husk of her former self, and allow that rage to fester. He then tied this back to why Umbridge is remembered (ironically, less) fondly, because the slights she commits are targeted specifically on known flaws and vulnerabilities of the main characters
It’s something that I’ve carried with me since because it really does make sense if you stop and think about it. Being like 13 at the time I initially clicked on that video with more curiosity than anything because I thought he worked pretty effectively. But by the end I was like holy shit yeah that would’ve worked SO much better. And the more I think about it, the more it’s really on full display here
The reveal that Carol is a central antagonist made me feel things, sure, but the thing that REALLY got me was seeing her for the first time, even before we knew just how connected she was. When Susie commented on the temperature seeming to fall when she entered, I FELT that. Because the previous chapters made SUCH a big deal about NEVER letting us see her. She was always cooped up in her office with hordes of cronies blocking any entrances commenting on how busy she is, even when confronted with our teenaged protagonist wishing to report a serious danger that not even the police is taking seriously. Within our centralized view, that paints a cold, scheming picture right off the bat
We were given ample time to create a caricature in our minds, shaping itself to whatever bounds it would allow itself to stretch. This is a common practice seen in comic book theory, with the idea that a scene that takes place in a gutter (the space between panels, or in other words, not shown) is infinitely more shocking, gruesome, terrifying, whatever you want it to be than anything that could be shown. Because it allows the viewer to fill in the blanks for themselves, and the human mind has the tendency to jump to the very worst. So seeing her pale fur, sunken eyes, stony glare, frigid colour palette, just HIT because it reinforced EVERYTHING that had been festering in our minds for the past however long. For me, it’s barely even been a year. I can’t even begin to imagine those who have been holding it for upwards of six
We’re already starting off with a bang, but the fact she’s so mysterious is then just used to make the small things we DO learn about her even MORE effective. Noelle is scared to tell her she’s locked out of the house. She doesn’t keep keys of important documents anywhere but home. Rudy is spending what could be his last moments terrified of what will happen to Noelle after he isn’t there to “balance Carol out, in his words. Noelle explains the feeling of seeking out things that scare her just so she can feel comforted. Speaking as someone else with a poor emotional relationship with her parents, the portrayal of Carol as such is not only harrowing, but very REAL. It’s severe enough to push all the right buttons, but not SO much so that she becomes harder to take seriously because a sense of immersion is lost. THAT is just as important, and it’s what really sells the effectiveness
The fact she wants to bring calamity upon the world is awful, sure. But that’s not why I hate her. I hate her because she’s a shitty mother. I hate her because Noelle has gone through so much because of her. And most of all, I hate her because of the implication that she’s using Dess to get her way, if I’m not going batshit crazy and Dess is the Roaring Knight like is seeming to be implied. Hell, she may have even staged her disappearance to be rid of her, as we know Dess wanted to leave home as soon as possible and take Noelle with her, and also that she was a contrarian to her mother’s strict beliefs and did things she never would have approved of. The reveal that, in her words, “I am always welcome in her home” would only have ever intrigued me if I didn’t know what I do about her. Perhaps she has more sympathetic motives than are being shown to me presently! But because these careful steps were taken to establish her not only as an antagonist, but as a VILLAIN, I felt pure unadulterated disgust. And the desire to be anywhere else and do anything else and listen to anyone else and never do what she wants me to do ever
What truly makes a good villain is the combination between narrative stakes and personal investment. And, more importantly than that, the effort to make it believably, groundely REAL, as opposed to overly blunt or performative. I’ve hated Carol from literally Chapter 1, assuming that she was gonna be an invisible driving force for Noelle’s character development and not much more, and now I just have a vessel to fuel all that rage into because the careful work behind the curtain is being unveiled masterfully. The fact there’s even more to know upcoming has my head spinning because I’m already reeling from just how much I HATE Carol, and just how GOOD that is for the story
If you’ve somehow survived my word salad the size of Mars, please please please leave tour thoughts or whatever else. I’ll see it when I eventually finish everything

One thing that I think a lot of people in the Deltarune fanbase right now don’t really get is that repairing old, outdated, and archaic equipment is not only complicated, but it can be dangerous as well. And this isn’t to say you can’t take creative liberties, I just think it would be interesting to explore just how fragile Tenna is as a physical thing in the first place.
In old CRT and Radio repair, there is this thing called having a “hot” chassis. Now, to prevent from getting into overcomplicated details that might be overly confusing, I’ll use the wiktionary definition for hot chassis: A metal chassis, used as a base for electrical equipment, that is live because it lacks a transformer to isolate the equipment from the mains.
This essentially means that if you touch the wrong thing at the wrong time in a CRT with a hot chassis, it can shock you to death. It can kill you. It doesn’t mean it will! But it absolutely can, even if statistically infrequent. However we have to realize that there is a very big difference between an average person cracking into a CRT for fun, and a trained technician doing professional repairs. It’s obvious who is safer here. You can handle hot chassis CRTs if you properly discharge them, and the professionals are the ones who were trained to know how.
However there is a misconception when people get worried about owning or handling a CRT. You will not die from touching an intact CRT. This is in the realm of opening one and repairing or modding it, not in the realm of everyday use. If CRTs could easily kill you just for touching them while they’re on, we probably wouldn’t have so many fond memories of petting the electric fuzz that comes from the screens. And they also would have been banned.
Sure, it’s possible there are faults or other issues, like cracks or perhaps a wire got messed up and is a fire hazard… But CRTs don’t explode like I have heard some people express worry for. If anything, they implode, due to the tube having a vacuum inside of them. Cracked screens can shock you, and are impossible to repair (they need replacement, and not every CRT model has spare parts just lying around)
This is all to say: Repairing a damaged Tenna is more complicated than it appears, and absolutely poses some risks. Maybe in the dark world it would be pretty simple considering he has a body, but in the circumstances of repairing him in the light world, there is only so much damage his body could possibly take before the damage has gone… Too far. And then that gets into a question of “if you replace enough parts is it still the same person” (which is beyond the scopes of this post).
I also mention all this because I see more people interested in CRTs due to Chapter 3. I love that people are interested more in these archaic pieces of technology and media! It’s wonderful that I’m seeing an interest in what I grew up with.
But I want you guys to be careful when opening a CRT. I know people have gotten awfully comfortable with opening electronics lately, but a CRT is different in a few key ways. Before opening one, please take GREAT CAUTION and be in the presence of someone else in case something actually does happen. Lighting doesn’t strike often, but it only has to strike once.
#deltarune#deltarune spoilers#mr ant tenna#tenna#tenna deltarune#I’m touched that people are getting into CRTs#but please be careful!#also I think more people should play off of ‘hot chassis’ I feel there is lost potential there#my post#also: not every CRT is a hot chassis. some aren’t!#however we don’t know what Tenna’s make is#so you can take this either way

Getting The Most Out Of Deltarune Chapters 1+2+3+4: A Guided Experience.
Experience Deltarune the same way we did as it was releasing
Want to read this as a google doc instead?
If you are the rare person who heard about Deltarune (the parallel story to Undertale, by Toby Fox!) through the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, this is for you. This is also a good resource for anyone that's just been out of the loop, or wants to make sure they've "seen it all" before getting to the next chapter.
It details not just what to play before Deltarune's new release content, but also has tips to make sure you don't miss anything important while getting through it without wasting time and detailing what happened between releases so you can go in with the same full experience I've had waiting for it to release for the past 7 years. The best time to get started was 2015, the second best time is now. All of it is below this read more, and it comes with only the necessary spoilers to save you some time. You can read it all in one go before starting any of the games, if you want. It's like, 10 years of stuff in here though. Take your time. If I missed anything, tell me and I'll edit it in. The best way to read this post is on my blog so you can see any of these edits. Feel free to share this around, make a video essay where you just read this off word for word, and/or repost it in any other fashion. I just want people enjoying the games! Credit is appreciated of course.
The Undertale Essentials
1
Go play Undertale! (you can skip any steps you've done before) It's on Steam, Xbox, Playstation, Switch. You can find android mobile ports of it pretty easily too, apparently. You can find a way to play it, I promise.
Just get to the end however you want, it largely doesn't matter what you do since a large appeal of the game is it reacting to your decisions. But if you get an encounter with no enemies, that means you've killed enough of them to activate an optional mode that skips a lot of the normal stuff in the game. So I would quit out to reload your save in that instance. You absolutely need to experience the game that started it all because a lot of Deltarune's enjoyment comes from the knowledge you'd have after playing this game first! Including the music! Don't mute the game just because you think the Ruins music is kinda mid!
2
Play Undertale...Again! This time, you need to be going for the True Pacifist Ending. Which just means you do all the important side quests, and don't kill anyone at all.* Don't worry about this being boring, there's actually plenty of unique dialog for a second playthrough.** If you don't super-kill The Flower™ from the trailer and all the marketing during a playthrough, he'll give you tips and hints on how to do it without having to look up a guide after the normal final boss. But really just try and maximize the dialog you see in this playthrough and you should get it. Just make sure you pour water on the blue lady after she passes out in the lava area, if you leave the screen on accident before pouring the water on her it locks you out of a side quest and you'll have to load a save from before the boss fight. If you save after this, that means you have to start all the way over...again again! *If you never killed anyone in your first playthrough and didn't lock yourself out of any important side quests, you can just hit continue to load into the room before the finale, and go back to do the side stuff you missed. **If you can't tell that the dialog is new, that means you can't complain about it being boring since you didn't remember the original dialog anyways! (This is a spiteful remark towards my biological older sister)
3
Play Undertale...Again Again Again! In step 1, I mentioned an optional mode that skipped a lot of the normal parts of the game. Well now you're going to do that on purpose, by not fighting an area's boss until you've exhausted the encounter limit. It's one of my favorite parts of the game to play. This can only be done by Fighting enemies until they fall to ashes before you, and stop showing up entirely. After the first area, save points start giving you an enemy count so you can't miss them on accident. Do this for the whole game, and you'll be able to reach The Final Conclusion to Undertale.
...Or...
You could watch someone else do it. (Don't click that out of curiosity if you're not at this step yet, it starts with super spoilers for the True Pacifist Ending!) This video playthrough features no commentary and uses YouTube's chapters feature, allowing you to skip through the monotonous enemy grinding if you just want to see what's new. Not everyone wants to do this playthrough, for obvious reasons.
This step might feel optional, but it's so important that I would highly recommend watching the video if you don't want to play it yourself. (You can check the end of this video yourself even if you played it, as this ending does change some things in other parts of the game!)
Congratulations! You've now finished The Undertale Essentials! (or you already did all of this like 10 years ago) Time to move on to...
The Extracurriculars!: Part 1
I don't believe any of this section is skippable if you want to really get the most out of Deltarune, despite the name. Feel free to use this time to think about Undertale even more, on a deeper level. These are events that happened between Undertale and the surprise release of Deltarune Chapter 1. Starting with...
The UNDERTALE Anniversary Q&A
Just make sure you read those instructions! It's not very long, so you could read it all in a single bathroom break.
The UNDERTALE 2nd Anniversary Alarm Clock announcement
This has since been cancelled, but it has some unique dialog for the characters found nowhere else. Again, very short.
The trailer for UNDERTALE's Switch release I guess?
This one is just funny, I really like this trailer. It didn't even release for the third anniversary on time outside of Japan. However, there is a fan favorite Exclusive Boss Fight and also Whatever This Is (<- 1/100 chance) that you'll miss if you didn't play the game on Switch! These are essential to know about going forward, as it's effectively two entirely new characters.
Here's the Exclusive Dog Shrine for the Playstation release, which is...Not Important...I'm watching this just now for the first time and it kind of sucks...badly. Okay just this one is skippable.
The Deltarune Essentials: Chapter 1
0
I want to take a moment to set the mood here for you. We just had the Switch release for Undertale, for the third anniversary. Nobody is expecting anything from Toby, who's now a multi-millionaire off of game sales alone (official merch comes from Fangamer, I wouldn't look at it yet though as you might run into spoilers) and if he does release anything else, we expect it to be just his "next project."
Then, the morning of October 30th, the day before Halloween, the official Undertale account tweets this and this. (<- start that one at the bottom I formatted it wrong) Then, after waiting a full 24 hours and finally downloading the new thing it greets you with THIS terrifying premise. We were terrified!
Now, after reading that, it is finally time for...
1
Playing Deltarune! But just chapter 1. It's free! After installing it, if it's the steam version, right click it and open up the "properties..." menu. Then go down to Betas and set it to "chapter1.2.lts.test - 11-25-24" to make sure you're playing the latest version, if you can't it's not a big deal but this does make some changes that will be in the final game. Meaning it's just a way to play the final-ish version of chapter 1+2 a bit early!
It's your first playthrough, just do whatever you like. It's only a single chapter rather than an entire game, so replaying it won't take nearly as long even if you mess something up. I will warn you though, you will need at least 90 minutes in a row after fighting the final boss of Card Castle to complete the next section that has no save points. This is, technically, for the best. You'll see. But please, for your own sake, do not start Chapter 2 yet. I promise, it's worth it.
2
Playing Deltarune But Just Chapter 1...Again! Or don't. While I do personally recommend playing through it again and doing the opposite of what you did the first time, that's not really important. At least not that we can tell yet. What you will want to do is load your first save file, and then making sure you have the White Ribbon armor item and watching the chapter 1 portion of this guide (it starts in partway through the video to avoid spoilers, make sure you stop the video before he starts talking about Chapter 2) to make sure you didn't miss anything important for Chapter 2! You will need to get to the ending cutscene again to make sure any changes to your file transfer to Chapter 2 properly.
This is just a general playthrough tip: When you're in town, you can just go all the way down to the bunker at the south-most area first thing. This will let you explore through the town in "layers", making it hard to miss anything that isn't hidden (the guide does mention the hidden part of the town!) Really, the most important part is just talking to sinks before anyone else in the room though.
Now that you've finished Chapter 1, it's time for...
The Extracurriculars!: Part 2
At this point, you're probably thinking to yourself "Why should I wait? Why would I not just go into the next part of the game now? Why do all these extra parts?" The simple answer is, Deltarune uses its Chapter releases to give you time to think about it. Probably, too much time, given the way some of us react to it. But this does play into its strengths as a series, giving us tidbits and mysteries to dive into. Trying to predict and figure out what's being foreshadowed and find the characters hidden and all the little interactions you could of missed. This really is the true strength of the series, and why people love talking about it. There's so much to find, there's almost always more you haven't seen.
This section covers the events that happened between chapters 1 and 2 of Deltarune. It's honestly quite a doozy, but less of it as vital as last time. Starting with:
Toby Fox talking about his thoughts on the game he's been working on since 2012.
Yeah, it turns out Deltarune started development before he even started working on Undertale. This is more or less unimportant if you don't care about Toby Fox or the creation of the game.
Honestly a lot of what's here and between the 5th Anniversary is mostly little tweets here and there. If you DO care about a little behind the scenes stuff, you'll just have to open the Toby Fox's twitter account and scroll down until you see the big blue "Windows protected your PC" images because everyone's PC's thought he was releasing a virus because he called the game "SURVEY_PROGRAM" lol. (then you can start scrolling up to see the stuff!)
Also the Chapter 1 Demo released on Switch with a very funny trailer
Seriously though, it's all just other stuff he's worked on, jokes, behind the scenes/scrapped content, or previews for chapter 2 which you're about to play anyways.
This all changed on the 5th anniversary however...
THE UNDERTALE 5th Anniversary Orchestra Concert
This doesn't have much exclusive in it (excluding the music itself, of course) other than a commercial for some merchandise that was released on the 5th anniversary. There are also some piano covers from Toby Fox himself at the 3:03:00 mark, including a song you might not have heard yet. It's a very fun listen and watch, but it isn't vital if you just care about the story and characters instead of the music. Somehow. (If you played through the game muted you're doing it wrong [Unless you're deaf. Sorry.])
The UNDERTALE 5th Anniversary Alarm Clock Dialog
Unlike the other alarm clock dialog, this is actually very entwined with the characters, to the point where despite it being their Undertale versions, it actually gives insight for their Deltarune versions as well. A very important read, if you ask me, and very enjoyable if you just like the characters. Not nearly as short as last time, but it's sectioned so you can come back to your spot easily if you get interrupted.
The UNDERTALE 5th Anniversary Deltarune Status Update
This is more or less just talking about how far along chapter 2 was, and why it's been taking so long! Non-vital if none of that interests you, but there are some cool screenshots of Chapter 2.
Microsoft (probably) paid Toby a ton of money to release the game on Xbox for some reason lol
Again: really funny trailer. Here's most of the Exclusive Xbox Stuff (the rest can be found here, thanks @undertale-encyclopedia for having such a good pinned post) which doesn't sucks and gives more information on a few characters, even some we only meet in Deltarune!
Now for the 6th anniversary we have something very special.
The UNDERTALE 6th Anniversary SO WE PLAY deltarune CHAPTER 1 FOR SOME REASON live stream featuring 3 dads
This is really cool and important to the experience if you ask me! I genuinely recommend watching it, beginning to end, skipping nothing and keeping your eyes peeled throughout. It's not a very "normal" playthrough, and the waiting periods have exclusive songs & information.
You'll see why at the end of it, but now that you've definitely watched that entire video (it's okay if you did it at 2x speed) it's time for...
The Deltarune Essentials: Chapter 2
0
More spooky tweets...So Spooky... (again, bottom to top. Just like manga!)
1
Playing Deltarune Chapter 2! Your first playthrough, do whatever you want. There aren't any long stretches without save points this time either. I highly recommend getting at least 1 of everything you come across and keeping it safe, with your new storage ability this shouldn't be too hard. There's plenty of secrets to find too, so keep an eye out!
This will save you a lot of time though: There is a part in Chapter 2 where the party changes in some meaningful way I'm being intentionally vague about. As SOON as this happens, use the new Chapter 2 save menu to copy your save into an unused save slot (I recommend the bottom slot) and don't touch it or save over it for the rest of this playthrough.
There is a hidden B-side route, requiring either a guide to go through it or someone behind your shoulder telling you what to do. Saving at this moment will allow you to do this B-side route, without having to start the chapter over from the beginning. Having someone telling you what to do is the recommended way to do it.
2
Do the hidden B-side route, which is significantly shorter than a normal playthrough. If you saved in the correct spot, you should have a save file ready to go right before the branching point. Again, someone else telling you what to do is recommended. But if you need a guide for it, there's one on the wiki in the "Method" section near the top. Try not to read anything outside of it.
I recommend to stop reading the guide as soon as possible, as once the route is initiated a low-pitched sound will play whenever you successfully keep the route going. If a different sound plays, you have aborted this B-side route, meaning you need to reload your last save. If you get stuck, you can go back to the guide as necessary. Do note that you WILL need to find The Dumpster and buy from it.
After you Do-The-Thing with the Dumpster-Thing-You-Need-To-Remember-To-Equip, you'll be locked in, so you won't need to consult the guide anymore for the rest of the playthrough.
3
You can now watch the entire "Making PERFECT Deltarune Save files..." video beginning to end.* I originally linked it at the 6:40 mark, so you can watch what was before that to see what spoilers I skipped. If you just want the Chapter 2 guide portion, it starts at 13:30. This step of "making perfect save files" is technically skippable, but there are some REALLY good items in Chapter 2 that are VERY missable! This will make sure you get them all, maximizing your Chapters 3 & 4 experience. But this one really isn't vital if you're enough of a gamer to not need strong items for "optional" hidden bosses. Oh, and make sure you talk to sinks before people whenever possible. *if you’d rather just read a checklist, here’s one by @brixbraxium. It covers both chapters 1 & 2, so I couldn’t link it earlier. It doesn’t cover absolutely everything like the video guide, but if you just want the big points this is perfect.
The Extracurriculars!: Finale
The Finale. All the extra bits and pieces that have been dropped for us here and there as we've been waiting for the past 3 and a half years for that Trailer. You may not want to read this section until after you're done with Chapter 2! It's easily the longest section to get through. But I'm sure you've been wondering...
Who the hell is that guy from the intro that's been making those spooky tweets before chapter releases? and Part 2 of it. These videos are, of course, not gospel (something like this really can't have one) But it's a very good summary of the information we have and what the common consensus was/is for some things.
Also there's been this unused code that has a person talking the entire time lol. This actually changed between the chapter 1 and chapter 2 release. This is probably Dess? Who you may or may not even know exists at all. Hope you've been paying attention!
The UNDERTALE 7th Anniversary Deltarune Status Update
This one has content you, someone who just played Chapter 2, will actually care about! It previews content and music for chapters 3 & 4, but still effectively tells us nothing! It's awesome! More importantly though it tells you about
THE SPAMTON SWEEPSTAKES
Don't watch the video at the top. This is for your own safety. You can't handle it. Not Yet. This features tons of exclusive music, previews of stuff you already saw and other stuff that wasn't featured in the Switch 2 direct trailer, and ads that you actually SHOULD click on. Can you find all 40 hidden pages? No? Are you sure you checked the product descriptions really thoroughly? Both homepages? Okay here's the wiki page that lists them all. Really do go through them all though, there's a lot of character building that just won't happen in the game here! Also, here's a live Spamton FAQ that got buried in Fangamer's twitter for some reason. Very funny and informative.
Successfully managing to get through all 40 hidden pages, and reading all of the text on the normal pages, and the FAQ, should inoculate you to [Spamton's Essense] allowing you to now watch the video at the top of the sweepstakes page. I am not liable for any [injures] you suffer.
THE NEWSLETTERS
After this, everything became consolidated into Seasonal Newsletters (sign up here, I recommend truck freak) that are archived here on Toby Fox's website. Just click into the Newsletter archive, and scroll down to the bottom first and work your way up. Seriously, just go up through them and enjoy what we've been waiting for months apart.
These talk about everything Toby Fox has been working on and have cool stuff like interviews with the characters and also real people who work on the games! It'll cover a couple things that happened before this section too, so don't worry about me missing anything if you think I haven't mentioned it here. However, there are some Famitsu articles linked, and you may notice that when you try to read them...that you do not speak Japanese...
Here's translations by @chartcarr of pretty much every Toby Fox Japanese only interview! You can find the one's mentioned in the newsletters under the "Toby Fox's Secret Base" link if they're not on the front page. (Chartcarr is going to re-do most of these at some point. That might have already happened, check’em out again if you’ve already read them!)
Newsletter Issue #5 Has 3 Random Valentine's Day Cards. Here's All Of Them In One Page. We had to hunt these down as a community, together! It was brutal! A lot of them only went to a few people, and if those people weren't online or aware we didn't have theirs yet, we just didn't have it! It was great.
All that's left for you now is to remember to click the snowman at the bottom of Issue 8.
Don't want to miss anything once Chapters 3&4 come out? Here's a speculative checklist by @brixbraxium (again!) that predicts everything we'll need to do based on the previous chapters. If I never update this, it can't ever be spoilers! Woohoo!
Big Questions FAQ:
This Series Has Irrevocably Rewired My Brain How Do I Cope With This
Watch this. It's a great video, even if you don't have this problem. It's basically what happened to me.
How Do I Become A Theory Lord With All Of This In My Brain Now?
Here's Device Theory, by @m0llystars, it should get your gears turning just watching it. Yes all 3 parts are out. It's especially worth your time if you like thinking about this game perhaps a bit too much really.
I Really Need Specifically More Undertale Not Deltarune Right NOW!!!...Please?
Here's an Undertale exhibition by Shayy on the show "That's Never Happened Before." You can probably just google "Undertale Theory" or something though if this isn't enough.
I Need To Give This Man More Than The $1-$35 I Have Already Given Him For His Game(s), How?
Official Merch can be found here, there are also EU and JPN sites linked at the bottom of the page. Here is the Bandcamp page to Buy the digital versions of the soundtracks (also on most streaming platforms)
I Like Music Theories
Here you go!
All Of This Happened So Fast I Need Something To Help Analyze The Characters In This Largely Character Driven Series! Help?!
Here's Dorked's Undertale & Deltarune Analysis playlist who you can also find on this website running the blog @megaderping
I've Managed To Consume All Of This Before Deltarune Chapters 3 + 4 Released, Or Came Back After They Released, And I Crave More. Now What?
The biggest inspirations for Undertale and Deltarune are Earthbound, Mother 3, Live A Live, OFF, Yume Nikki, MOON: Remix RPG, Brandish, Cave Story, and the TouHou series. (and a few more not mentioned here!)
OFF The RPG is getting a re-release on Switch & Steam soon with new music (some is by Toby Fox!) and revamped combat, so look forward to that. Or you can play the original OFF for free.
Earthbound is on every Nintendo console ever. Here's an excellent Let's Play of Earthbound you can watch if you don't want to play it yourself. It will show you more than you could possibly find on your own. A great series just in general, if you need something to watch.
Here's a video on how to play Mother 3.
Live A Live can be purchased on Steam or Nintendo Switch, and is excellent. Each campaign is relatively bite sized so you'll never be stuck on anything for long. I recommend disabling tutorials and starting with Imperial China, it's very linear and simple so it's perfect to learn with. Looking up guides to make sure you don't miss anything is fine though!
Cave Story is just free.
Yume Nikke is just free.
MOON: Remix RPG is on steam and Nintendo Switch. If you're a theory head, I highly recommend playing this one through to the end.
TouHou has a very dedicated unofficial translation scene, as there is no official translation for most of the games, so you'll need to go through them to play the games unless you can read Japanese.
I don't really have anything for the Brandish series, I just absorbed information about it from a blog that's no longer active. If anyone knows a truly exceptional let's play of it or the best way to play it, I'll edit it in here!
Stuff from other people who worked with Toby Fox
Temmie Chang has made a couple short games that Toby Fox has helped with
Splendidland (Mickey’s Dicksmasher Person) has done several things, including making Franken RPG. Which is fantastic.
Space Funeral isn’t really related at all but if you liked Franken it’s an obligatory recommendation. A friend of mine played it because they just got into Deltarune and didn't want to burn out replaying it before release, then immediately recommended it to me.
Toby Fox helped with the music for Soul Of Sovereignty, by ggdg, who did some art for Undertale and got interviewed in one of the newsletters.
Fred Wood has his own website, definitely check out LOVE 3.
Taxiderby, creator of UNDERTALE RED, has their own itch page also.
I can also strongly recommend ZeroRanger & Void Stranger if you just want that feeling of digging deeper. Finding obscure interactions and details buried deep within the game, challenging but deeply rewarding in gameplay and lore discovery...Also play them both if you want to hear the music do that thing where the motif is established in the first game to give hints towards stuff in the second game in action. It's very cool.
Wait that's really how you're ending it? A random game rec where all you say is they're very cool without explaining anything about them? One of these wasn't even a question!
#Deltarune#Undertale#UtDr#Nintendo Switch 2#<- it's a launch day title I think I can get away with that.#switch 2

In this pinned post you with find the links to the released pages, FAQ's, and rules for asks. This post will be updated regularly to keep things organized.
SUMMARY
During one of their visits to the Dark World, Kris and Susie find that two humans had mysteriously appeared from seemingly nowhere. Unsure of what else to do, Kris beings them back to Hometown to figure out who they are, where they came from, and more importantly, why they were covered in dust. With nowhere else to go, the two are essentially adopted into the Dreemurr family until they can figure out how to get back home.

ABOUT THE MOD (COMING SOON)
Figured for anyone who is interested to know more about the person creating the comic, I'll give a little bit of info!
FAQ'S AND CLARIFICATIONS
When does the comic upload?
Ideally, every Friday …. But you know… Life can get in the way sometimes!
When does Fractured take place?
The beginning of this comic begins after the events of Deltarune chapter 3, and eventually branches off into it's own route.
How does controlling the KFC gang work?
At the beginning of this AU, Kris is controlled by one player while Frisk and Chara are controlled by another. The connection to these two players are eventually lost/corrupted leaving the three open to any and all players (you, the readers) to take control or influence their actions. The words you comment on posts, the questions you ask, and the answers you give in polls can impact what happens in the story. Not everything will have an influence but it will always have a chance to. Occasionally, players will be in control of the actions of characters for a limited amount of time. How this works is certain pages will be captioned with who you are controlling and instructions you need to follow. Players will submit what they would like said character to do through asks and I will pick a handful that will occur until they are disconnected from you (I do tend to get quite a bit of submissions so I will not be able to use all of them, please understand that).
How will you know what has influenced the story?
I will respond directly stating that it will have an impact. Most of the time I will state how it will influence the story, however, I do want to keep some things secret occasionally.
How do the players communicate to Kris, Frisk and Chara?
Players are able to communicate to them primarily through any screen such as a tv, computer, phone, ect. On occasion they can communicate to them via ominous voices inside their heads. Otherwise, players can not directly interact with their world and will not have a physical appearance. I should also add that only the KFC gang and V are able to see or hear the players' messages. No one else is able to.
RULES FOR ASKS & INFLUENCING THE STORY
In this AU, Frisk and Chara are 12 while Kris is 17. THEY ARE ALL NONBINARY so anything inappropriate, rude, or offensive will be deleted immediately.
I’m trying to stay as canon as possible, however, if your ask includes fangames or other AU’s (ex: Undertale Red and Yellow) I will try to work it into the story if I can. I’m not very knowledgeable about other AU’s but I’m willing to at least try.
Considering that I’m basically running both an ask blog and uploading a comic, I may not be able to answer right away. Please be patient with me, I’m doing my best over here…

GENERAL RULES & GUIDELINES
If this post doesn't answer your questions, try the Specific Guidelines or FAQ!
Fundamentals for Submissions:
You MUST submit the name and origin of the song.
You MUST use the provided google form for submissions. Any songs requested in the ask box or messages will be deleted/ignored.
You MAY submit the artist and/or a link to the song. This is not required, but is very helpful.
Clarifications for your Submissions:
For the sake of allowing as many individuals as possible to submit songs, only one song per person is allowed per submission period. A submission period lasts about three months and includes three submission dates (the 1st of each month during the period). If you submission is removed for any reason, it will be made publicly available here under 'Submission Form Deletions' and you will be able to resubmit at a later date during the submission period. Submissions under this category should not be resubmitted because they are already in the queue.
Please indicate the source/year of the game in the ‘notes’ tab of the form if your game has a remake/remaster and you would like to submit a specific version (i.e, specify if you’re submitting Snow in Summer from NieR (2010) or NieR:Replicant (2021)). This is not required, but obviously very helpful.
Please indicate the version of the song if the song has multiple versions within the same game (i.e if you’re submitting Song of the Ancients from NieR (2010), specify if it is the Popola, Devola, Hollow Dreams, or Fate version). This is also not required, but is also obviously very helpful.
The song MUST be officially released in some capacity, whether that is from the composer, studio, developers, company, etc. NO LEAKS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Official releases can include prereleases, early access, album teasers, etc. The spirit of this rule is essentially 'only music released to the public with the creative team's consent'.
Songs from anything that could reasonably considered a ‘video game’ will be accepted provided they meet the remaining rules and clarifications. Any console, any release year, visual novels, gacha games, itch.io games, self-hosted games, flash games, mobile apps, are all allowed. If you're still unsure, please look at the specific guidelines.
Songs under 20 seconds will not be accepted (try @dyktvideogamesfx for those ones!)
Songs from live-service games will be accepted on a case-by-case basis, with most approved cases being songs that were featured in an actual form of the gameplay (i.e songs exclusive to advertisements/promotional material may not be accepted). See specific rules for details.
Songs from gacha rhythm games/idol card-collecting games/etc will be accepted if they are regular BGM or event BGM. Songs from the beatmaps that are not exclusively video game songs will not be accepted (Games included here include but are not limited to: Ensemble Stars, BanG Dream Girls Band Party, Project Sekai, etc). See specific rules for details.
The song should PREFERABLY HAVE AN OFFICIAL TITLE. If it does not, it must be able to be found with a reasonable google search. I may delete your submission if I am unable to find the song (and it will be placed in 'submission form deletions').
Please don't submit songs that are from games less than THREE MONTHS OLD (or are less than three months out from release in a live service game). This is to allow others to avoid potential spoilers. For the 7/1/2025 submission period, this means NO ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN, NO MARIO KART WORLD, AND NO DELTARUNE!
With that being said, here is the submissions form! (Opens 7/1/2025)

hi! in your toriel alcoholism post you said something along the lines of "there's so many themes of neglect in deltarune" and i wanted to ask maybe you'd like to talk about that indepth? I'd like to read your thoughts on that (or maybe you already did somewhere?)
Sure! Others are probably a bit more eloquent with explaining it (I'm good at noticing themes, not always the best at verbalizing them lol) but I'll do my best to hit the broad strokes
that being that member of our main cast experiences neglect in one form or another!
Noelle has a basically work-focused absent mother. She's frequently locked out of her house and for one reason or another, can't get the key from her mom (she's too busy, she chastises Noelle for bothering her therefore Noelle is afraid to ask) idk if you've heard of latchkey kids, but Noelle is one (and doesn't even have said latchkey half the time!) We also see that when the two do interact, Carol is incredibly authoritarian and controlling. There seems to be no warmth there at all, creating emotional insecurity in Noelle. Not to mention leaving her unsupervised on the Internet. Her father is very loving and supportive, but due to his illness is largely absent as a parental figure. he does what he can, but it seems very limited.
Lancer's dad is self explanatory bc of chapter 1, dude tried to throw him off the roof and showed no remorse.
We know nothing specific about Susie's family life, but we know she moved around a lot and never made a friend before Kris. Many folks headcanon her being in the foster system, and that seems entirely possible. Regardless of what her exact home situation is, she doesn't talk about it (red flag), was prone to violent outbursts before Kris (red flag), doesn't call home to let her family know she was spending the night (red flag!) and no one calls asking for her the next day. If she has a family, they don't seem to care how/where she is at any point.
Ralsei is more complicated, with no parents at all to really base off of. But the fact that he had no one at all is something to consider. he's memorized this prophecy and internalized that it's his purpose to serve the lightners at any cost. Ralsei neglects himself.
And then we get to Kris. Adopted child, the only human in the entire town (one could compare this to white people in 99% white towns adopting Asian children and the intense alienation/identity issues that inflicts on the child, but that's not really my place to comment on in depth!), incredibly autistic coded, older brother goes off to college and leaves them to deal with the fallout of their parents divorce alone! and like. Toriel and asgore are both sweet people and do an ok job, but they don't act like parents sometimes.
Asgore is obsessive over his ex wife, everything seems to be some attempt to win her back, and when Toriel ices him out, he ropes Kris in. Take these flowers to your mom, do you think we'll be a normal family again when your brother gets back? What an awful and uncomfortable position to put your child in! He also talks to Kris not as a father but as a friend. You can be friends with your kid obviously, but you need to be a parent First. Asgore needs to grow up and not dump his emotional burden on his literal child.
and Toriel. Sweet overbearing Toriel. Who doesn't want Kris watching MTV and goes to church every weekend. But is known for how she gets while drinking. Who, while her child was fighting desperately to try to save her, locks the house, doesn't tell Kris where she's at after changing plans, invited (essentially) a stranger over to their house, and got drunk. without knowing where her child was in the storm. didn't call Kris once like she did in chapter 1. Kris, after having gone thru the biggest ordeal this far, returns home exhausted to find her perfectly safe and blackout drunk. there's a lot of evidence this isn't the first time either. Susie leaves the situation immediately (hm!) and Toriel doesn't check in on Kris and just sorta offers food (that isn't there when you check the fridge!) So like, Toriel is a warm parent, but not reliable. Kris doesn't feel like they can turn to her for support.
So. yeah. Neglect is prevalent in deltarune

Ok this is a doozy and I dont usually post this kind of thing and its chaotic as hell but
I know who the knight is.
Deltarune spoilers below, plus long [and chaotic] post for a long [and insane] theory.
It isnt Dess, it isnt Noelle, it isnt Rudy, it isnt Papyrus[???]
Its noone in hometown. Its noone at all. Its The Roaring Knight.
I know I know no fucking shit The Knight is The Knight, groundbreaking theory here everyone. What I mean though is that they dont HAVE a counterpart in the light world, that is to say in the same way that Kris in the light world is Kris in the dark world, The Knight in the dark world is The Knight in the light world.
Lets step back a good long bit, Chapter 1, Ralsei's introduction. Ralsei is very obviously a dark world counterpart to Asriel, theyre the same in all but one regard. Asriel has Kris, even in Undertale has Chara. Asriel has a sibling, and Ralsei does not.
I think that The Knight is the Kris to Ralsei's Asriel.
I think that The Knight is, or rather was, a darkner.
Now I hear you, "Darkners cant open fountains!" "The Knight ran away in the LIGHT world!!!"
But thats where the was comes in. I think The Knight became a lightner, and I think they told Spamton how. Maybe Jevil too. [Strong maybe though]
Spamton NEO. At the start of the boss battle he says that he needs to get "so very big" that he can "see above the dark", and he says he can do that if he takes Kris's SOUL. I think The Knight told him to do that. They told him if he took Kris's SOUL he would be able to "see above the dark".
Because theyve done it before.
Let me paint a picture.
The Knight has it drilled into them that their purpose is to serve lightners, to fulfill the prophecy, to do as they are told. Ive already posed them as the Kris to Ralsei's Asriel, so tell me, what is the one thing we know Kris yearns for most? That's right. Freedom. The Knight is told to serve lightners and decides they dont want to, they decide to try freedom instead, they decide that they should call the shots, they decide that they should be a lightner instead.
Now how does one go about becoming a lightner? Well what do lightners have that darkners dont...? It might sound obvious but... Light.
"It's so dark here."
How do you go about getting light...? You take it. You take it from them by force. You take a lightner's SOUL and make the light within it your own.
The Knight took the light from the first lightner it found. The Knight took the light from one December Holiday. The Knight drowned Dess in the dark where they had been trapped for so long.
But part of her remained. Just as a monster absorbing the SOUL of a human. That's why their sword, taking from them being a counterpart to Kris, is shaped like a bat. That's why their helmet has antlers. Not because Dess is The Knight, but because The Knight took part of Dess.
This next bit is related but a bit more speculative.
I dont think Ralsei is singing Don't Forget. Theres a reason it's a woman's voice. It's December.
Of course we won't forget the prince of darkness standing right next to us for essentially our whole journey. It'd honestly be harder TO forget him. The same goes for any OTHER darkner. But we might just forget a girl lost in the dark, someone who knows first hand how cold and dark and terrifying it is in the dark.
Don't Forget isn't Ralsei comforting us sweetly, it's Dess crying, pleading, screaming out "Don't lose hope, please. Don't forget me. I'm still here. I'm with you in the dark."
#deltarune#deltarune spoilers#deltarune knight#the roaring knight#deltarune theory#december holiday#i know its a batshit insane theory but like HEAR ME OUT#yeah it just kinda sounds insane doesnt it?#please tell me your opinions or if i missed anything!!!

Dread Not Act 1 has finally concluded and with it, sadly, so does my formal creation of the AU. This is the end, and my goodbye to a story that’s defined the last five years of my life.
TL;DR: Thank you for reading, thank you for engaging, and I hope to see you again on the road ahead, whether through Deltarune or otherwise.
Why Quit?
It’s pretty well-known to the people that’ve been following this AU for a long time now, that my motivation for working on it has had its ups and downs. Mostly downs. I want to emphasise that this isn’t a hasty decision, I’ve been mulling over and trying to find other avenues for a while, but suffice to say the pros of continuing are few and far between when compared to the cons. For one, my working pace is horrendous and my drive is lacking, with the pace I’ve had these years Dread Not Act 4 would finish in, like, 2040. I don’t think anyone wants that, least of all me. Even if I turned the story into a fic rather than a comic, or simplified the story to the point it could be told in only a few comic pages, I feel like I’d still just hate working on it, not to mention it’d be a disservice to that original vision I had so long ago.
If you’d indulge me in a bit of needless self-psychoanalysis, Dread Not as a story has been a sort of mythologized retelling of my own adolescence without me even knowing it. To put it simply, when I was first writing it, it meant a lot to me, because it was an externalization of my constant inner conflict, the conflict between conformity and weirdness, femininity and authenticity, masculinity and powerlessness. I had a lot of jumbled up feelings about myself and my place in the world and Dread Not gave me a good outlet to explore and externalise it all, but... I’m turning 22 this year, I’m well on my way to finally get prescribed HRT, I’ve physically and mentally grown up, and this story no longer reflects the parts of me it used to. I think that’s the biggest reason why working on it has been so unfulfilling for me.
On the more technical side of things, my general artstyle has changed a lot (as I’m sure you’ve noticed) and so have my mediums of expression. I still love comics and will probably make more going forward, but not in this format. Not of this scale. Not alone, at least. Dread Not was a technicality NIGHTMARE to organise for my brain riddled with executive dysfunction, but I don’t want to paint it as a net negative. This project has taught me so much, not just about myself, but about how to work and create and tell stories, and put myself out there. It’s not an over-exaggeration to say it’s defined the last 5 years of my life because this story is how I met my best friend who I don’t know where I would be without. Whenever I’d do anything for school, I’d compare it on a technical and emotional level to Dread Not because it’s essentially been my golden standard of passion and discipline. It’s how I started actually posting my art online, like, AT ALL, and getting over my fear of people and being perceived. It’s how I’ve met all the wonderful people who joined its discord server who I’d consider good friends and I’m unspeakably grateful I met them all, and also... it’s taught me more than I ever asked for about the unstoppable force that is the human spirit and the immovable object that is time restriction. If I had like 5 clones of myself, by god would this have been easier.
But, cloning magic doesn’t exist yet and I can’t push myself any longer. I want to start new projects, actual original ones with my own characters instead of AUs, and I want to be unburdened from self-imposed deadlines and standards. I’m no longer the kid who could draw 3 fully coloured comic pages in like 2 weeks out of sheer will and school procrastination alone, and I’ll try to make my future projects reflect that both in skill and maturity. I think, what I’m trying to say the most is, I’ve outgrown Dread Not. I’m sure a lot of you have, too. It was a story born from my teenage angst and it had a pre-planned happy ending, it was always meant to. The only problem is, I reached that ending before the comic did, and my motivation to tell this story has dropped to an all-time low.
This doesn’t HAVE to be the end though.
What could have been
I know what it’s like to be really invested in something, and have the author just give up on the project halfway through, often even sooner than half. The untied loose ends, the disappointment, the tension of the story never released... Exactly because I know what that’s like, I’m really sorry, and I hope the ending of Act 1 and this post at least brings a little bit of closure on that front. If you want to know what the future acts WOULD have been about, you’re in luck. Since I’m leaving the AU anyway, I might as well document all my ideas for it so at least SOME version of it completed exists in the heads of people who care.
Not just writing it out for the sake of itself, but also if anyone wants to continue the AU themselves, they’re free to. I consider this whole concept up for grabs now, if you want to carry on based on the notes I leave here, or if you want to spin it in a completely different direction, or make your OC the president of the world, go for it! Alongside this post, I’ve made a dedicated Dread Not Neocities site, where I’ve compiled all the pages of ACT 1 and included my author commentary that is excruciatingly long, that I suggest you do not read every entry of unless you really, REALLY want to read all of my unhinged rambling about the creation process and the character beats I was conveying. I’ll be adding full descriptions of what future ACTS were MEANT to look like there too, plus concept art and sketches (that I might upload here if there’s enough demand for it), and that site will turn into the de facto “where to find the original Dread Not” place, as it’ll house everything I could’ve wanted to make with the AU.
For those curious who don’t want to read too much Kooki Speak (but still frankly a lot), here’s a shorter version:
ACT 1 was always planned to be just buildup, but by god am I bad at pacing. There’s a lot of small threads in ACT 1 that I never really had plans to address in future acts (Clover is one of those things, poor girl got retroactively shafted because I made her a third wheel in the Ralsei and Kris plot), but one of those is NOT Undyne and her team.
ACT 2 would’ve been entirely from their point of view, or rather the point of view of their newest recruit, Alphys, who joined the military essentially just for the money and perks, and ends up having an extended multi-year crisis over not being good enough physically, morally or mentally. Alongside the running plot of the guard team (and sometimes directly involved with it) would be the two seperate threads left over from ACT 1 - one following Spade, Asgore and Kris trying to find their way in exile, and the other following Toriel, Gaster and their new maid/head of security, Muffet, who all descend into varying forms of villainy thanks to the influence of one another.
The Act wou;d’ve taken place over the span of 10 in-universe years, and the mutual element in all these stories would’ve been self-denial, with it being most prominent in Gaster denying his own mortal body while “helping” Mettaton with creating him a metal one, secretly using Mettaton as a guinea pig for his own experiments with his own body, becoming more and more machine-like in body and mind as the story goes on, for the sake of “productivity” (which itself was just his way of trying to escape the mounting guilt he felt for his involvement in Asgore’s exile). Mettaton would never be fully satisfied with Gaster’s work, and turned to Alphys for help to secretly “fix” it. The ACT would’ve ended with Alphys and Mettaton getting exiled after they in/directly cause a malfunction that nearly gets Gaster killed. They decide to stick together in the wilderness not because they have no-one else left, but because they WANT to help each other, self-denial turning into self-acceptance through another.
Toriel and Muffet would’ve spent the ACT building a rapport with one another, mostly through Toriel’s refusal to harm the spiders Muffet thought would’ve been dismissed alongside her, and in turn Muffet being Toriel’s only refuge from the chaotic demands of her subjects and courtiers. They would’ve ended the ACT as an official yet secret couple (since Toriel’s Queen she’s expected to court men for the sake of having offspring one day, and not Muffet who is a weird spider girl). Formally Toriel being the sovereign of the country, but informally they’re acting as essentially dual Queens, one dealing with trying to bring her people up while the other puts the “bad guys” down. Note Muffet’s skewed perception of morality and how it rubbing off on Toriel probably isn’t a good thing, even if they’re good for each other in a romantic sense.
Asgore and Spade, meanwhile, would’ve gone through ups and downs in their relationship in exile, predictably, as the circumstances are kind of really fucking dire, but eventually stabalize and preffer being fused most of the time rather than unfused (the fusion, yes, in-universe keeps being called The Fusion throughout the whole story, but he has an actual name so I’ll call him Corundum from now on). Kris, meanwhile, grows from being a scared kid who doesn’t really know humanity, to a teenage little shit rebelling against everything because they’ve Met humanity, and Embraced humanity and want to fight for it. Kris is actually a good segway into mentioning that ACT 2, alongside Alphys and Muffet, was meant to introduce the rest of the key players for future acts, namely Noelle, Susie, and Lancer. I’ll get to it.
Undyne would’ve started the ACT as a diehard patriot, but over the course of several failed missions, losing her eye and finally losing Alphys, starts to doubt and resent the cause they were enlisted for. Papyrus would essentially be the only universal constant, as his conviction doesn’t wane while his concerns for his friends grow, trying to keep what’s left of the team together and “fighting for good” because he doesn’t really want to consider that the country that won the war and saved monster kind could be Bad. Napstablook is there and Sad.
ACT 3 would’ve tied all the disparate threads together, from Undyne finally standing up to Toriel and getting exiled, to Ralsei becoming Gaster’s apprentice and inheriting his unhealthy coping mechanisms, to Corundum and Kris casually hanging out with Alphys and Mettaton like a weird extended found family. All of this (mostly) through the lens of Lancer, an orphan who heard about the traitorous escapades of the fusion and wanted to follow in his example of being a bad guy. Shenanigans ensue and he gets caught spying on them, only for Spade to eventually realise that, whoops! Lancer is his biological son, and he had no fucking idea he even existed.
Along the way Kris also meets and (spitefully) befriends Susie, who’s Lancer’s childhood friend he kind of left behind in pursuit of being a criminal. Susie both resents Lancer for abandoning her, but also admires that he even had the guts to go out on his own at all. Her and Kris mostly bond by being weird. Spade, meanwhile, makes the opposite choice to what Asgore did in ACT 1, opting to leave Lancer in the foster care system because he doesn’t think he’s capable of being an actually good parent, his influence on Kris be damned. This is (almost) immediately narratively punished, as after leaving Lancer behind, the family end up ambushed and terribly outnumbered by the Queen’s guard, now with machine reinforcement.
The fight goes poorly and Kris is wounded really badly. For the sake of survival, Spade and Asgore have to unfuse, and while Asgore gets Kris to safety, Spade is captured. Unwilling to let him be taken away alone, hoping he’d be able to save him, Asgore leaves Kris with Alphys, in pursuit of the people who took Spade away, and doesn’t return. Kris wakes up some weeks after, and realises they’ve been abandoned just like Lancer was. This causes them an understandably huge amount of pain, where they leave Alphys as well and try to live completely on their own, culminating in them talking to their memory of Ralsei through their old doll. They regress back to their younger self mentally, feeling alone and unloved and like they don’t belong, but it’s exactly the memory of Ralsei that reminds them that belonging isn’t something given to you, it’s something you find in other people, just like they did in each other when they were kids.
This invigorates Kris, and they gather their rag-tag team (AKA literally just Susie and Lancer) and head to the capital, looking to free their stupid imprisoned dads and reinstate the family they belong in, the family they really want. The heist is complicated as the prisons are heavily guarded, but Kris eventually manages to sneak in on their own while the others form a distraction. They find their parents (first Spade, who chews them out for meddling before realising he really DOES need their help, and then Asgore who’s just crying, man. He’s just crying a lot.) and once the two fuse they begin making their exit, which is noisy and easily attracts attention. Attention of none other than Ralsei, who was just here to grab some documents for his boss and ended up seeing his convicted childhood friend escaping prison. He gets the chance to pull the emergency alarm, to call the guards, but even as Kris has to run and leave him behind again, he can’t bring himself to do it, he lets them go. Later that night, Kris sneaks into the castle just to find Ralsei’s room and leave a thank-you gift.
Meanwhile with the exiles, Corundum realises how badly he fucked up, in a lot of ways, both for his passivity in his own kids’ lives, as well as his refusal to accept how badly his own life has gotten. Lancer gets osmosed fully into the family (while Susie aggressively refuses to be part of any group hugs) and the next morning, Corundum finally decides to take up arms against the Queen, to make a stand against the tyranny, because it really seems like no-one else will. Until Undyne busts down the door, suplexes Corundum and declares herself queen of the pirates. It’s a weird day, and the direct segway into ACT 4.
With the Capital unstable and Corundum on the loose, Toriel’s attempts become somehow yet more desperate. While Kris and their friends are only wanted alive (they’re kids after all) Corundum is wanted Only Dead, and because of the giant target on his back and how badly the Queen wants him dead for no discernable reason (traitors of similar status in the rebellion like Undyne are wanted dead OR alive), he essentially becomes the mascot of the revolution while the actual organised army is a lot more loosely structured. Undyne plays a big role in actual battle advancements while Corundum mostly handles recruitment and survival off of the grid, as he’s kind of gotten the hang of by now. Alphys and Undyne reunite but way too much is happening right now for Alphys to actually ask her out.
Meanwhile, the kids are travelling with the rebels but aren’t allowed to participate in any real fights, which they all think is lame. One day while out and sulking, Susie and Lancer stumble upon a weirdly cold part of the forest, and find a lost girl singing to herself in what looks like a magic, giant snow globe. They take her back to camp, and while she’s suspicious, none of the adults really think of her as a threat, mostly because of how absolutely petrified and hungry the kid is. She refuses to say anything about where she’s from or why she was half frozen out in the woods, all anyone knows about her is that her name is Noelle.
On one of their self-given missions, the kids split up into two teams to see who could score more points in their made-up game. Susie and Lancer in one team, and Kris and Noelle in the other. They end up bonding a lot faster than expected, and Kris uses their human soul to power up Noelle’s already pretty destructive magic. Turns out, the ice Noelle was ‘trapped’ in was of her own making, a defense mechanism to keep her safe from the wild forest, but now Kris is teaching her how to use it for offense, too. This backfires quickly when it gets out of hand and Noelle ends up hurting Kris. They aren’t injured too badly, but are cold and bleeding and can't exactly stand up on their own, but Noelle completely panics and runs away. Kris is hoping she’s going to get help, but she doesn’t.
Once Susie and Lancer get back to camp alone, and realise Noelle didn’t come back with Kris and seems to be in a silent state of shock, they kind of panic too. Corundum and Lancer go out looking for Kris, while Susie stays behind and tries to talk to Noelle, to no avail. Once the family return, Corundum is visibly PISSED while Kris is lowkey/highkey scared of Noelle, now. Susie pieces together what happened and stops trying to reason with Noelle, instead just trying to get her to say WHY she did it, to say anything at all, basically. Alphys ends up intervening and telling Susie it probably wasn’t intentional, Noelle is having a panic attack and yelling isn’t gonna help anyone. Alphys ends up being a pseudo mom figure for both Susie and Noelle, separately. For Noelle, because she’s the only adult who really understands her animalistic anxiety and panic at the smallest perceived threats, and for Susie for being someone willing to talk her down from anger rather than egging her on or ignoring her.
During the kids’ misadventures, the two actual political factions were gearing up on both sides. On the day the rebels finally invade the capital, they do so by hijacking a trade boat and secretly passing through the border via the river, after which all hell breaks loose. The city becomes a battleground and the citizens are all weirdly equipped with shelters to wait out the storm. Meanwhile, Noelle runs at the sight of the capital back into the woods, and Susie goes after her. Kris and Lancer stick to Corundum and Undyne like glue until they get to the actual castle, which has been turned into a giant mechanical labyrinth. Alphys and Mettaton run into Papyrus and Napstablook, and end up reasoning with them rather than fighting. Undyne has her sights on fighting the Queen just as much as Corundum, but it’s really tough to manoeuvre the castle and the team gets split up.
Lancer fights and conquers the staff (Rouxls) and is so happy with his victory that he takes a nap. Kris ends up in the bowels of the mechanical castle and comes face to face with Gaster, who Corundum advised them to go easy on earlier, which backfires. To their rescue comes Ralsei, and the two fight Gaster side by side, reclaiming their childhood and friendship in the face of cynicism and hopelessness. Gaster is essentially completely incapacitated, but Ralsei knows how to keep him alive via the machines while cutting off his influence on the building. Susie and Noelle’s fight ends more peacefully though, with Susie realising Noelle was running from her family this whole time, and opting to help her rather than chase her away. Undyne comes face to face with Muffet and finally fights her head on, making up for not standing up for her teammates when she should’ve.
And then there’s Corundum and Toriel’s fight, which goes so much worse. The two of them are symbols for both sides, yes, but their conflict is a lot more personal. Despite his best efforts, Corundum is unable to fully conquer his legitimate FEAR of Toriel, while she’s unable to deliver any decisive killing blows because she’s still holding onto the vague hope that no one has to die for the prophecy not to come true. The tides of their battle go in her favour, and she forcefully unfuses them, again. Wounded and emotionally exhausted, neither Asgore nor Spade can put up a fight, at which point Toriel makes the difficult decision to kill One of them, deciding that if they can’t fuse anymore, the vision won’t be able to come true.
Only for her to be interrupted by Kris, kicking down the door only to be unceremoniously kicked out of the throne room by Toriel in a single blow. She pities them, but can’t risk leaving both their parents alive, only to see that Kris isn’t alone. Behind them, storming the halls, the rebels have formed an entire siege, and it finally clicks into place for Toriel that the prophecy already came true, and she only certified her own doom rather than preventing it. She resigns herself and refuses to fight anymore, which Asgore witnesses and is extremely confused by, even as Spade helps him back up on his feet as the Queen’s surrounded by rebels, just like in the vision. They fuse again, and while Corundum is 70% ready to kill Toriel for real this time, Papyrus of all people ends up stopping him, as even though he’s on the side of the rebels now, he still believes in a true hero’s principals, the relevant one being that you may never strike down an enemy that’s already surrendered.
Toriel is jailed instead, dropping her crown along the way and (to everyone’s surprise) putting up so little of a fight that she’s essentially the one to lock her own cage. While Corundum stays in the throne room and ponders life and what the fuck he’s gonna do now (going back to the simpler lives he had in the capital before his exile still somehow seems like an impossibility to him), the kids all reunite outside the castle. Lancer and Kris introduce Ralsei and brag about their battles, while Susie (holding Noelle’s hand very tightly) asks them if there’s a way for their big scary four armed monster dad to make sure Noelle doesn’t have to go home to her parents. Undyne and the rest of her team summon Corundum and organise an impromptu coronation and correction of the system, pronouncing the fusion as the new king while the actual delegation of the system won’t be solely in his hands (allegedly).
The story would’ve fully wrapped up with Corundum finding Toriel’s crown, and more importantly finding her in jail. As a show of spite, he breaks the crown in front of her and tells her that her reign of terror is over. Toriel looks at him, coldly and dismissively, and “wishes him luck” in ruling better than she did, if he really thinks he’s capable of it. Despite her not saying much, Corundum is still lowkey/highkey terrified of her, and the sword of Damocles begins to swing again.
There was also a planned epilogue, but... you’ll have to go to the neocities page if you want to read up on it ;)
(When I update it, that is)
Meta-deconstruction of my own work
If you don’t want to read me ramble on about my own psychological issues intertwined with trans confusion and gay denial, just skip this entire subtitle, I wouldn’t blame you at all.
I’m a big proponent of ‘death of the author’ as a means of engaging with a story, original intent being secondary in importance to your own, individual perception of the themes and characters. However, in this case I AM the author, and don’t really have that alternative lens. That kind of screwed me over in a lot of ways because I kept trying to engage with my story only through the way in which it relates to Deltarune and Undertale, like it was an extension of someone else’s work rather than my own world. From this arose issues like... really unclear timeframe for when the story takes place at all, disjointed aesthetics and character designs I was never fully proud of, but had to stick to for the sake of being reminiscent of the original. I gave myself plenty of leeway, don’t get me wrong, but I always thought of Dread Not as the third wheel in a very solid twin story, and it blinded me to what the story was, metatextuality, actually about.
I was in high school when I came up with the concept of the AU, the monsters winning the war and Toriel inheriting an unstable throne. Originally, it was just Asgore, Spade and Kris, on the run from Toriel and Gaster. The conflict was more overtly a love triangle (square?) and Toriel’s motivations were fairytale-like while Asgore and Spade were... my main focus, I’d say? I designed their fusion (lovingly nicknamed Corny by me and my best friend who I expanded the AU with later on, and who you can thank for the scope of the story described in the above subtitle) and, for a long time, he functioned as my stand-in whenever I’d make other AUs, or when I’d just be randomly doodling stuff. Yeah, the scrawny transboy with no confidence made a big fat furry to project onto, what else is new. The difference is, I never admitted that to myself. There was a lot of shame and vulnerability in openly having a fursona for me, especially since he was just two of my favourite characters literally mashed into one, it’s pure wish fulfillment. I still kind of struggle with that, and I think it shows in the way I wrote Corny in my Act 2 drafts and onwards.
He’s just a big ball of pride and shame mixed into a destructive fake cat man, running from his own identity while trying to embrace it. It's weird and complicated and, frankly, with the drafts I had I never felt like I was really doing him justice. Like there was always somehow More to him that I was failing to bring up. In time, I realised that ‘something’ is the melancholic haze of losing the place in society you thought was your birthright. You USED to be normal, you USED to be successful, but now you’re not. You’re something else, something monstrous, something everyone despises but also, you could never be anything else now. You love the new you, but you hate that no-one else does. You want this, but you also want to fit in, and you can’t. And it sucks. And that’s what the fusion of two exiled gay men have in common with a former girly girl transman slowly figuring out he’s gay.
Asgore and Spade, and Corny by extension, all represented this almost shunned masculinity within myself. I kind of lived vicariously through these outlaw gay men because, even though I’m not illegal, living day to day as a teenager at the tail end of a puberty that scarred me, still struggling to come out even to myself at times, kind of gave me the impression that I don’t belong, anywhere. Kris is and always was representative of my inner child, loud and creative and kind of just unwittingly tossed into this whole mess. And Toriel? Sadly, she got saddled with the symbolism of all the femininity I was forcing myself to live up to, to stay hidden and “passing” as the wrong gender. I never disliked Toriel, and her “villain” role to me (at the time of originally making the AU) was a necessary evil. She would get overthrown eventually, yes, but while she’s still here her reign is stifling and strict. Tyrannical. But necessary to survive. She was the one making sure the country didn’t collapse in on itself through paranoia and control, analogous to my very thin perpetual mask of girlhood I didn’t belong in that I used as a survival strategy to not get relentlessly bullied again like I used to.
I kind of feel bad that I made Toriel the villain if I’m being honest. Like, in hindsight, she really doesn’t deserve that role. Even if she’s prone to acting paranoid or rash sometimes, I feel like I really undersold her very real wisdom in the games by (plot hole DING) having her not realise that trying to stop the prophecy would probably end up being its exact catalyst. I always meant to give her that sort of resigned realisation of that fact moments before it happens, but, I’ve gotten complaints from certain people that her acting the way she does in the comic makes it seem like she never read a single piece of ancient greek literature, and I’m kind of inclined to agree with that criticism. I needed SOME kind of effigy for my younger self to metaphorically burn in order to finally embrace what I’ve been all these years. And, that reflects really poorly on Toriel. If she were a real person I’d owe her an apology. Not for trying to dethrone her, but just for giving her kind of weird motivation that I had to further expand on retroactively in later pages.
If I were to make the AU from scratch today, I’d probably put more work in giving Toriel a more grounded motivation, give her actual stakes and history in the monster/human conflict outside of a vague family lineage, and potentially also tie Kris into her plot more. It feels like a missed opportunity in hindsight, they ARE her child in Deltarune, after all. Gaster, out of the main cast, got the lamest symbolism out of everyone though, the “adult” voice that’s nudging everything into conformity, beefing with a literal child to represent the constant war between “adultness and logic” and “childlike wonder” that plagues everyone during puberty. His general role in the story was of a passive machine, someone who’d do as he’s told and not question sides, that sort of “neutral instinct” to not rock the boat that’s generally expected of adults. Again, if I were to make the AU over, I’d probably give him a more mysterious role? Have him be less overtly one of the main catalysts for the story’s events, and more like a shadowy observer cataloguing the misfortunes of the people around him for the sake of trying to prevent tragedy. He’d still be a bumbling gay idiot though, don’t worry about that part.
All of this writing about the AU, I hope, can put into perspective why it meant so much to me, and kind of still does. I might never make all four acts into standalone comics, but I still put as much of it out there as I could. It’s 7AM on a Friday after pulling an allnighter writing this entire spiel, so please excuse me if it’s sloppy or weirdly phrased in certain places. From start to finish, Dread Not has been an honest work of pure passion, and I hope if nothing else about this AU sticks with you, it’s that I loved working on it, and I’m eternally grateful for all the people who engaged with the story. Even you, whenever you’re reading this ungodly spiel, thank you.
What’s next?
For a lot of you, I’d understand if you weren’t interested in my work outside of Dread Not, or outside Deltarune/Undertale. For a long time I branded myself on those games alone, but I’m hoping to branch out more soon. If you want to keep up with me outside this project, my Art Tumblr and my Youtube are the best places to do that. I’ll be turning off Asks for this blog, so if you have any questions for me about this AU or anything else really, the art blog is the best place to go.
Alongside the formal “closure” of this blog (no more updates) I’ll also be working on remodeling my Dread Not Discord Server into just a Kooki Discord Server, and if you join you can see the myriad of fan characters for this AU that people have already made and that I never cease to be impressed by. If there’s ever going to be an “official” continuation of the story, that’s made without me but with my blessing, it’ll have its roots in that server. But, also, I wouldn’t entirely bet on it. This story is kind of a behemoth and if I can’t do it justice I don’t want anyone else to feel pressured to try it either.
Once again, thank you for reading, thank you for commenting, thank you for caring. I hope to see you again on the road ahead. And, hey, if you’re second guessing whether you wanna put your own stuff out there, take this as a sign to just go for it. You have no idea what will come of it, but that’s part of the fun. Even if you can’t see it through to the very end, it’s better to try than to never give yourself that chance. Make that comic, write that script, draw that idea. It’ll be worth it, even if it takes a few years for you to see how.
Alright, I really gotta stop writing now. I think I’m just postponing the inevitable, because ending this post means really, genuinely ending Dread Not... I guess all that’s left to say is
Goodbye

Happy belated Pride Month and Deltarune Chapter 3+4 Release Month! I've been rather busy and haven't been able to draw or do much of anything, but I managed to sketch this out- and color it!- last night, so I'm posting this before we have to put the gays back in their boxes for the rest of the year. Here's some notes on each of the characters and their designs!
Naturally, Ellie gets the role of Susie Deltarune because she has hair. ...And also because their personalities make them kindred spirits; that too. Clothes are very difficult for me, so Ellie unfortunately doesn't get any of the cool costume bits that Susie has aside from the hair dye, and of course, her eagerness to ROCK HARD! I tried to have Ellie's eyes hidden by her hair like Susie, as well as that big toothy grin, and I think it worked out really well! The drum set was easily the most difficult part; even if I was essentially trying to replicate the exact same drum set from the game.
Mostly silent protagonists with ambiguous relationships to the player? You'd almost think Henry Stickmin and Kris Dreemurr were the same character, haha. Henry's costume was the one I was most excited about, and while it's not a perfect match to Kris' outfit, I'm pretty darn proud of it! Luckily for me, I had already drawn a picture of a stick figure in high heel shoes in the past year, so it was an easy enough reference to go off of. The "coat tails" probably aren't as torn up in Deltarune as they are here, and they definitely don't have a hot pink inner lining, but given my limited abilities, it was the best I could come up with. Easily the most disappointing part was having to turn the hot pink shoulder pads into a giant... uh... cape cone? Cape collar? I'm not sure what it's called, but it's there. I really wanted to make the shoulder pads word, but unfortunately, stick figures don't really have shoulders to work off of... or at least, ones that are wide enough to get the look I wanted. And, of course, the guitar is pretty mid, but overall, I'm very proud of how this came out!
Charlie's kindness and occasionally thoughtless attitude (and the fact that everyone else was taken) makes him a pretty good match for Ralsei. The mohawk was a bit of a challenge, but not as much of a challenge as the audio's going to be, since he has two microphones. Surprisingly, the most difficult part of drawing Charles Calvin here was recreating the way Ralsei has his hips jut out behind him like he's standing on his tip toes while bending over to show off his little tush. Very difficult to make that look natural, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.
And, of course, for a little extra pride flair, the Triple Threat Live! sign is done in the polyamory flag colors! So yes, this is technically a PolyThreat piece. Love Wins!

Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 theory: Kris vs Us and their intentions
Spoilers for chapters 3 and 4, but mostly chapter 4 (and the very end of 3) and long post below the cut
I wanted to talk about Kris's relationship with the Roaring Knight vs our relationship with the voice in the void. I'll talk about Kris and the Knight first, and then go into us and the voice.
Now to start: why is Kris working with the Knight? At first I wanted to believe some things could be explained with events later in the story, and while some things were, a lot of things weren't. Let's start with the phone calls in Noelle's house.
If we go to the kitchen after Kris removes us from their body and listen to the phone call, the voice clearly talks about the dark fountain and things that the Knight would know. Interestingly, while this phone call is going, we see Kris looking more and more despondent, until they eventually pass out/sleep on the counter. This isn't something they want to do (meaning they don't want to listen to the Knight). And it isn't Kris being tired (I mean it could be but it doesn't seem likely), as if we get caught by Kris again, they put us back in the box, and return to the kitchen to play the piano for 8 minutes (they also beat our ass in Dess's closet, but that does actually tire them out if you let Susie and Noelle finish talking).
Back to the phone call, it's clearly with the Knight or someone who knows about the dark world. While this is clear, I believe the second phone call they make is actually to a separate person. We eventually know that they call Carol, and with the context of the other call, it seems like the first call is to Carol as well. But if we think about it, it doesn't quite make sense. Carol can't be the knight because shes a workaholic. She has been frequently described as a workaholic. So why would she randomly leave work and go to Kris's house? Or go to the school or library during the day? Someone would have seen her and commented on it while we were out and about. Also, it doesn't quite make sense for Carol to be the Knight. It seems more likely that they just happened to call both the Knight and Carol while we could hear.
Now why did Kris call her? There's two answers, one is more likely than the other. The first one is that they wanted to interrupt Susie and Noelle (for whatever reason, jealousy being one possible option) The second one, the far more likely reason. First, we need to consider why Kris would ever call Carol. They know how much she sucks, as she has repeatedly locked her daughter out of her own house because she refuses to give her a key. Noelle is terrified of her mother, and Kris knows this. And we know for a fact that Kris cares about Noelle, something we can clearly see with their interactions with her in chapter 4 if you did Snowgrave. They wouldn't have called Carol without reason.
And they did: they needed us out of that house.
We were snooping around Dess's room, a place that brings back bittersweet and nostalgic memories for them (as Dess is presumed dead but is most likely missing in the void). We also see the bunker code in Dess's guitar. And it's only in this moment that Kris takes control and shoves us away in the present boxes. Now, for whatever reason, they don't want us to go into the bunker (and neither does the knight as shown from the phone call). They need us out of that house because we will keep getting away and into Dess's room. So they had to do something I believe they wouldn't do normally and call Carol. Why?
Because they were desperate.
And if you're wondering why I think Carol grabs Kris's shoulder and says they're always welcome, I think it's actually simple. She's proud they essentially tattled on her daughter when she was doing something Carol didn't want to do. I believe Carol is an abusive and controlling mother who doesn't like it when her daughter goes against her wishes. Even though they didn't want Noelle to get in trouble, they needed us out.
I don't believe they're evil, or even trying to be malicious. They're trying to stop us from getting into the bunker. Now, all of this is mostly implied and can be figured out. But if Kris isn't evil, why side with the Knight at all?
Freedom.
They believe the Knight will free them from our control.
We know Kris is working with the Knight through the physical interactions they have. During the boss fight, if you are able to get through no hit, we see this text dialogue

Kris knows we're getting good, so they needed to end the fight. Most likely to hide the deal from Susie and Ralsei and make sure we don't actually piss the Knight off and make them actually hurt them. The Knight also knights us while one-shotting Susie and Ralsei. So there definitely something like an alliance between the two of them.
And we know Kris isn't evil. They do genuinely care about their friends. They save Susie in chapter 1, they don't pull any weird faces when they say they'll take Susie to the festival (over Noelle or Ralsei), and so many interactions they have with Susie in chapter 4. They fake yawn if we tell Ralsei he shouldn't be feeling the things he does and instead say it's okay for him to be feeling those things. They bite their hand if we tell Susie that Kris will never play piano again. They pull Susie out of harms way if we try to attack her after we finish the game, and they flinch when we attack both Susie and Ralsei. And one of the most notable times, they shove us in a trashcan and beat the shit out of us if we've done Snowgrave. They desperately try to comfort Noelle and pull her out of her room if they see us there.
Kris is terrified of us. They so desperately want to protect their friends from us. And they so desperately want to be freed from us so they can be happy with their friends.
Now let's analyze the Knight's interactions with other characters in the game.
If we think about everyone the Knight has (supposedly) directly interacted with: Jevil and Tenna. It's also implied Spamton has possibly met them as well (King heard about the Knight through Jevil, and it's never stated how Queen knows of the Knight, though it could be through King). But those three, Jevil, Spamton, and Tenna, are all connected. We can hear the freedom motif in their themes (though Tenna's is much more brief than the others, possibly implying he isn't as far gone as the others), and they all desire their freedom. Jevil believes he is free through his insanity, Spamton desires freedom from his past quite literally tying him down, and Tenna wants to be free from the past of Kris's family fighting and abandoning him (more vague but still there). I believe the freedom motif isn't necessarily the "secret boss fight theme" but more "this character desperately wants freedom and will do/has done anything and everything they can to get it (also this is why I think the freedom motif will actually end up being Kris's theme if they ever fight us at the end of the game).
Point is they want to be free from their memories of the past and the control that's been held over each of them.
Just as Kris wants freedom from us.
If Kris has made some sort of deal with the Knight for freedom, they may be locked in whatever that deal is and needs to help the Knight in order to stop us. It's why the Knight lets us close the dark fountains. They need us to lure more people in so they can be captured. They opened the door when they created the dark fountain so Undyne could be let in. They need to do as the Knight asks as they believe they'll be granted their freedom.
Will they?
If we know anything from the previous characters the Knight has talked to, and left behind...
...it doesn't seem likely
---
Now let's take a look at our relation to the voice in the void. I'm going to refer to them as the Voice as I'm not sure if I believe the connection between Gaster and the Voice. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong lmao. This is also going to be much shorter than the previous section because I had a lot to say about Kris and the Knight.
From the very beginning, we have interacted with this Voice. Giving us choices to create a vessel, to give it a name, only to throw it away. I also believe they are the one giving us dialogue and action options. If we are Kris's puppet master, the Voice is the stage director. We can control, but ultimately, we have our choices given to us. But we can take it in whatever direction we want. We can be mean, we can be nice, we can be neutral and avoid everything. While the Knight has a much clearer direction of their motive, the Voice seems to be truly morally gray, as it mostly observes our choices with the options they have given us.
We also have one other chance to interact directly with the Voice outside of chapter 1. During the Knight boss fight, if we go back to properly fight the Knight, the Voice will comment on how we strangely keep trying and persevering through the fight. Every time we die, they continue to talk to us, which is something they've never done before. Additionally, if you die to the Knight's last attack, the Voice will comment on how close we got. It's not in a motivational way, more in a analytical way, trying to dissect us. Finally, they speak to us when we finish chapter 4, as sort of a farewell and a congratulation for getting halfway through our quest. Now, this is strange. They've never spoken to us after we fail a fight, or if we've finished a chapter. How many people forgot about them when playing and just thought it was a one time appearance? And when they talk to us, I believe they are talking directly to US. Not Kris, not anyone else. It's just us and them. The voice is clearly "on our side" or at the very least trying to help us through our quest.
Now, the soul itself doesn't seem to try to fight for freedom. When we play, it's more for curiosity. We want to see how things play out. We don't even necessarily force our control over Kris all the time, it's just the circumstance we found ourselves in. When we find Kris in the kitchen, we have the ability to go right up to them once they pass out, and they only attack us once we float past. We can't even force ourselves to go back into their body, which is presumably why they have the cage and why they shove us in random places. They want to make sure they can make the most of their freedom before they take control again. Because either from experience or from fear they do this to stop us from forcing us back into themselves.
Though, we may still desire freedom. We built our vessel. We can create it how we wish. Filling it with our hopes and dreams, our hatred and fears. We definitely are at least a little attached to who we created. And now we are controlling someone who very clearly doesn't want to be controlled and harms us when they believe it's needed.
The question is: will the Voice let us free ourselves from Kris when we are presented with the opportunity to do so? That is much less certain than whether the Knight will free Kris.
It does seem the Knight and the Voice represent two sides of a coin.
The Knight represents the inability to move on. To remain stuck in your past. To feel like you're trapped.
Meanwhile the Voice represents the possibility to change. To choose to remain in our past or to attempt to move on. To allow us to try to move on. Which is quite ironic, considering they tell us our choices don't matter, and yet nearly every choice affects some part of the story or our relationship with other characters.
Very interesting, don't you think?
---
TLDR: Theory that Kris has sided with the Knight to try to get free from us while we have sided with the Voice out of both of our curiosity. This also kinda turned into a little bit of an analysis of Kris, the Knight, and the Voice.

DELTARUNE KNIGHT THEORY!!!
//Deltarune Chapters 3+4 Spoilers!!\\
-

-
So we think it’s Dess right? Most posts i’ve seen all over have mainly been about Dess being the Roaring Knight, because of their Horns, the Wiffle Bat sword, blah blah you’ve probably seen that all by now.
But what’s not explained is our previous theory on Dess being the Lost person in the Unused Code. If Dess is the Knight, how is she also lost in the code?
One theory i remember seeing from a few days ago theorised that December’s Mind and Body have been split by whatever caused her to go missing. (I unfortunately can’t credit right now but i will in an edit/comment if i find it!!)
I want to expand on this a little bit with evidence from the Weird Route!
I propose, that if a Lightner is Fatally killed in a Dark World, their mind becomes trapped in the Dark. This would leave their Body essentially DEAD, but not turned into dust. (Which is proven to be what happens when Susie finds Gerson’s dusty hammer between Church Dark Worlds in Chapter 4). We see an active example of this with Berdly!! His Body is completely unresponsive, and his Mind is lost who knows where.. (Still in the Sealed Cyber World Fountain? In Deeper Dark than that?)
Their Mind Lost in the Dark could manifest as being in the code for us to find, like the Unused Text we suspect is December. This would be hard to pull off with Berdly’s “death” being in an optional route, so his Mind would maybe manifest in a different way we might see later!
This leaves their Body in the Light World, without Mind (or possibly even Soul), it’s a blank canvas for whatever any particular scientists or… something else’s needs. Berdly was taken to a monitored hospital by Kris, so nothing nefarious will happen with his Body. But what about Dess?
Dess disappeared a LONG time ago. Her Mind and Body have been separated for years. And if it’s all happening in the Shelter’s Unseen Dark World, who knows what could have happened to either? Somehow, her body could’ve become what we see of the Roaring Knight, with its corpse and deer resemblances.
Through Unused Shadow Crystal text from Chapter 3, we see that Undyne has also possibly been Fatally Killed in the Dark World too. Why does Who need another Body to manipulate? Or is it just the best way to keep significant Lightners from interfering?

That’s all i’ve got for now!
This theory can also work with that theory i’ve seen recently (that i also cannot find to credit as im writing this TwT) where Dess, the Vessel and Asriel were the original 3 Heros of the prophecy! Maybe after seeing Dess (and possibly the Vessel?) be Fatally Killed by ?????? in the Shelter, Asriel never speaks of or goes back to the Dark Worlds, leaving the prophecy unfulfilled and thus needing of new Heros? Also explains why he’d flee to College at the first opportunity, that’s SO much trauma lmao
Anyway that’s fully it for this post! How i personally see Dess as both the Roaring Knight and the person lost in the code!! I hope im not accidentally ripping someone else’s theory off, if i am i promise i didnt see it!!
(BTW this is first time posting on Tumblr EVER because i’ve had these theories rattling around in my brain so be kind please it’s literally 1:30 am right now TwT, and any feedback is greatly appreciated :D )

came across your theory and i’d like to hear more of your thoughts on Kris and the hints towards their past trauma! i’d also like to contribute that i think that the Forgotten Man might represent some sort of repressed memory—he follows kris through all dark worlds, and can only talk in the dark world they made in their own house, strengthening the connection between them. the forgotten island where you find him in ch3 is also a representation of kris’ early childhood, full of toys they forgot about when they grew up and started watching/playing games on the tv (dark world logic being “the whole world used to look like this, before tenna showed up! we didn’t sign his contract so now we’re stuck here”). and his ch4 appearance, in the therapy room, also feels very obviously important. there’s still some gaster-y weirdness about him and he mentions wanting to help someone in the secret valentines letter that has basically been confirmed to be him, so maybe he’s trying to help kris somehow? not sure, would love to know what you think.
Hi there! i'm actually in love with you for asking about this. Please don't die at the sight of what i can only assume is over 2000 words of theory talk. I really enjoyed writing this.
AGAIN! MASSIVE MASSIVE DELTARUNE SPOILERS!!!
THIS IS A
DELTARUNE THEORY
COVERING INFORMATION FROM CHAP 3+4 PRIMARILY (Stemming from a prev. post of mine) SUICIDE/SUICIDAL THOUGHT REFERENCES IN RELATION TO KRIS!! BE SAFE!
I actually am aware of the idea the forgotten man could represent the repression of kris's past and memories, i think that'd be a great concept and would give us alot of insight on heaaapps of things. Also once again would be VERY omori esq.
In relation to him possibly being gaster, i do really wish we had more info on him. Because we technically in canon have essentially no information on him other than he was a scientist and he fell into his own creation (in undertale nontheless, which could mean nothing in deltarune) i think that the fandom has very much created a all encompassing being that essentially fills every plot hole we can't answer. That doesn't mean our interpretation of him is inherantly wrong, but if gaster is the entity we're talking about it would reveal alot about his character, because we don't even really know what he looks like. 'His' sprite in undertale's code isn't even confirmed to be him.
However, something incredibly interesting about him is he's referred to in UT as 'the forgotten man' by the genocide route characters in the core. The sprite in the code is called the watching man, which could be taken as a link due to him 'watching' kris (perhaps in the art therapy room or even just as they traverse the dark world.) But because of his reputation as "a lost, forgotten soul" it is VERY possible that directly links to him being THE forgotten (egg) man in deltarune.
Also he's Dr. W.D Gaster. A doctor in a ward makes sense if he's the one hosting kris's alleged therapy.
Ok now i'll talk about the thing you actually talked about lmao
If Gaster/Forgotten man/Egg man is actually a symbol for a repressed memory- or even if the tree is, as it's possibly that too- i feel as though the game would fully end up.. i hate to use the word copy, but a copy of OMORI. The storyline would be very similar. don't get me wrong- i love the plot concepts, but it would feel very copypaste if they did that, which is why i believe or atleast hope that the forgotten man won't end up as that- a symbol of a repressed memory.
As to the plausability of it being true- it's very, very possible at this point due to how toby and his team have set it up. The fact that yes, the forgotten man has only appeared in the dark world so far, really implies it so. Especially because of the way Ralsei speaks of the dark world;
"What happens if the remaining light was taken away? And it got darker than dark? Then- maybe you'd be able to start seeing again." Side note: Gaster's theme is constantly associated as "Darker yet darker". The dark world is literally called the dark world and described as darker than dark.
Now Ralsei constantly reiterates in chapter 3 the fact that the dark world is not real. Additionally, It's seen that depending on the person who opened the fountain's views and motivations and just.. general personality greatly affects the reality within said dark world. Like when Susie's dark world is 'messed up', and Kris's living room one revolves essentially around them a significant portion of the time, eg Tenna referring to them specifically in fight dialogue ("Couples fight all the time! Tell 'em, Kris!") etc it really shows how the egg man is quite possibly a part of kris's mind. Which would make EVEN MORE sense if gaster has something to do with kris's soul- ESPECIALLY IF GASTER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PLAYER'S CONTROL OVER KRIS. Plus, the fact that heaps of Forgotten man lore/scenes are in Kris's dark world (chap3) are telling.
i am so sorry this is so long so far. i love writing about this. ONTO KRISES BACKSTORY.
Dialogue i will be referencing if i remember: "Without play the knife grows dull" "that flicker in their eyes (that kris can't hide)" "you just wanted to have fun.. REAL fun.. like the old days" on snowgrave: "The same part of you that enjoyed yesterday. Knowing you could say it wasn't really you." +Secret boss claiming kris had or HAS violent tendencies. All this implies kris's backstory is far darker than anyone initially imagined. My current suspicion is that Kris, after the 'traumatic event' mentioned in my last post became intensely violent, with significant intrusive thoughts. It's very possible that these violent tendencies also occurred before the event, which possibly even led to the event actually happening. Kris as a character has been revealed to have so, so much more personality than we previously thought and interpreted. We find out they don't just play piano, they enjoy it, and that they have interests and likes and dislikes, motivations, emotions and opinions, and most of all the fact they are not just a vessel for us to play as. Here's what i think happened in Kris's past: (Note: Kris possibly is dealing with intrusive thoughts building up pre-event /possibly caused? by the fact they are the only human in a place filled with 'monsters', which is proven to have had a effect on them as a child through the devil horns they wore and dialogue throughout the game) >Kris and Dess among possibly other friends including noelle and asriel, frequently hang out as a group. >Kris, due to their dark thoughts and nature, suggests they hang out in a haunted woods or something childlike and similar. >Maybe they experiment with "witchcraft", possibly with the help of catty who is shown to have a interest in spells etc. >Something goes violently wrong and kris ends up as the one blamed. Whether they are responsible or not is up for debate. Maybe the crew tried to summon a 'demon', ended up summoning gaster or the knight, i don't know. >The something that goes violently wrong ends up with Dess incredibly injured or even dead. Kris's knife is involved. Perhaps they got in a argument about something and the thoughts won kris over. >Due to Kris's participation in the event, they end up with severe trauma and intense intrusive thoughts or accidental violent tendencies, maybe social isolation (hence why they in chapter 1 have no friends at the beginning) (susie is unaware as it is suggested she is relatively new to the town and school) >As Kris is blamed, and due to the issues of their trauma and thoughts, they are put in a institution for a little while, or similarly just given restricted movement abilities OR forced to attend frequent (Group?) Therapy. >Carol holiday, who again has a preserving motif, is unable to let Dess go and has a "i would do anything for my family" mindset and character arc. Dess's death/injury/coma ruins her. >She attempts to find a way to bring back, or save, Dess and ends up possibly with the idea that she can bring her back through the dark world or some other similar way. >Carol blames Kris, therefor by way of manipulation and/or guilt tripping, sees Kris's vulnerable state and employs them to assist her in attempting to bring Dess back. >Hence why Kris is following Carol's 'orders' and assisting them, partially unwillingly or to their own expense. Because they have made a deal and Kris feels obligated to stick to it.
Getting into very very theoretical here; >Kris realises at some point maybe a year or two before chap1 that they do not want to help Carol, and the town needs to move on from Dess's death (or something like that) >They attempt to tell carol they no longer want to participate >Carol says no you're stuck with this >Kris tries to escape her manipulation and deal, but ends up doing something that makes carol furious or realise she needs more control of them. REENTERING THE GASTER/CAROL IN KAHOOTS GAVE KRIS THE PLAYER-CONTROLLED SOUL STUFF! i am milking this theory to its death. >Carol/Gaster duo inflicts soul upon kris in the hopes it will be more loyal than kris has been, and also psychologically torturing them a little in the process, ESPECIALLY in the snowgrave route. (side note; i actually havent though heaps much more about kris's past as i've been exploring other ideas... but if you want to talk more about those theories let me know!) An explanation behind Kris's absolute hatred and resentment of the SOUL during the snowgrave route (as if they don't have enough reasons already) is that not only are we tormenting their childhood best friend but additionally it means they as a person are inflicting the same manipulative pain onto someone as Carol did them, forcing someone to do things they didn't want to. It is weird that kris carries a knife around with them, as pointed out jokingly by Susie. Perhaps the violent thoughts haven't fully stopped. Maybe.. and this is DARK, but maybe they want a failsafe incase the soul, or carol, goes too far. So that if the soul does something so, so horrendously bad they could kill themself to get out of it. final act of regaining control. or maybe kill the soul. FIND OUT NEXT CHAPTER! idk Judging by their illusive dark past it's very possible they were directly suicidal or had suicidal thoughts... and those kinds of thoughts, even when you get better, are never fully gone. They stick with you forever. ....or there's a chance they just like eating entire pies at night and opening dark fountains with the knife and I'm the weird one here... we may never know THANKYOU FOR READING ALL THIS. I AM SORRY IT IS SO LONG. the ramblings of the insane are not a quick meal. if you want me to, again, elaborate on anything specific lmk i will write about this for days if need be. My Multiverse!
I don’t remember if I ever posted this, if I have then dang it I’m doing it again!
So when I was fresh to the Undertale fandom I had a lot of fun learning about the multiverse and I loved the implications it has like the common question of “is there other multiverses?”, I didn’t think much about this question until my brother brought it up. And boy howdy did it disturbed me. It took me a while to swallow my pride and agree with him the the notion of multiple multiverse not only destroys the purpose of a multiverse but (in my opinion) makes things to redundant, also if there are multiple multiverses then there should be multiple of those multiple multiverses and on and on. There’s not much room for the player themself to be presented as the ultimate threat when the world already has much bigger fish.
I made this diagram thingy that explains how I imagine the multiverse (at least mine) and others can use to change or add on to.
The World Tree Theory

The diagram thingy above shows the multiverse as its whole. In my story, canonically, no one actually knows what the multiverse looks like or if it even has a shape at all, any and all diagrams or depictions are solely theoretical (including this one). This depiction of what the multiverse could look like, also knows as the “World Tree Theory” is what is taught to new travelers and in multiversal schools because it’s the best at explaining the multiverse as a whole and its behavior.
Unimportant side note: when I look at shows that features a multiverse (marvel) its done more from an evolutionary standpoint witch can have some really interesting worlds, cuz evolution doesn’t care about rules it cares about survival essentially allowing you to make whatever world you want. In my story it’s going to be more focused on creationism cuz for one its my belief, two I think it would be more interesting morally, and three one of the themes is asking the question ‘what is a god?’ or ‘what makes someone a god?’. This idea came from the fact that there are some pretty strong characters that can do some pretty insane things and perhaps in their life were worshipped and treated like a god, but are they a god? If so what makes them a god?
Alternate Timelines - AT

ATs are described as the “veins” of the World Tree and are the most common type of world sense every Alternate Universe has ATs each typically falling into one of three categories: Pacifist, Neutral, and Genocide. ATs are not alternate worlds in themselves but are rather the different choices we make or more often the ‘player’ makes. ATs can take place in a different time like Undertale Yellow or Horrortale, or in a different setting like Outertale, so long as the characters or the overall main story doesn’t change. Relatively speaking, traveling through timelines is the most simplest way to get around the multiverse although it’s very time consuming on the account you could only access certain universes through certain timelines.
Alternate Universes - AU

AUs are the “branches” of the World Tree and are the second most common world and unlike ATs, AUs can have the same characters but different personalities/roles like in Underswap, different/new characters like in Glitchtale, or an entirely new story like in Deltarune. Traveling through AUs is the most effective way to get around the multiverse but in order to do so one would need a VARY powerful machine or know someone who has the ability.
I don’t know where to add this but worlds like SwapDisbelief are ATs of there original AU (UnderSwap in this case)
Pocket Dimensions - PD

Pocket Dimension are the “leaves” of the AU there attached to and unlike the AUs or ATs instead of being the change in history it’s defined as the change in physics most AUs have the same basic Pocket Dimensions that helps there world properly function (Mirror, Shadow, Light, Gravity, and Space). Comparatively speaking, it’s more easier to fall into a Pocket Dimension by accident than to jump a timeline intentionally and if you do happen to fall into a Pocket Dimension it’s vary important to understand which Pocket Dimension your in because that can determine if you’ll live to tell the tale or die a horrible death. Canonically in my story, Pocket Dimensions (heck dimensions in general) are a newly discovered concept. This discovery fist took place when a scientist discovered that the Anti-Void he was in wasn’t an infinite space but rather a dome (Underevent reference) that acts infinite and separates the Void from the Anti-Void. The Anti-Void is the only confirmed Dimension.
Ok so extra explanation, remember how I said I wanted this world to be more creation based? Well I ment that literally. The idea I had when I first thought of this came from my anger that no one is using dimensions anymore plus I was watching Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil at the time and then it kinda hit me that AUs can the the change in history while Dimensions can be the change in physics, like changing how the world works. I didn’t refined this idea until I took a 3D Animation class and that’s where it hit me again. When you began a project, any media, you start off with a blank canvas, an empty space, a void, an Anti-Void :) (The Space pocket dimension and the Anti-Void is the same thing). Then you’d make a sean or characters and establish its Gravity, add Shadows (Not official yet but the Darkworld from Deltarune and the Shadow pocket dimension are the same), add Lights, and if your felling fancy add reflections. The number of dimensions depends on the medium and how rendered the world is.
Alternate Dimensions - AD and Miniverses

ADs are the “rings” of the World Tree. Whenever the multiverse as a whole takes a different path mainly involves the guardians and the protectors of the multiverse like in DreamSwap or AccidentVerse.
Miniverses are like “knots” in the World Tree and happens when the entirety of the multiverse exists on the same plane of existence and typically doesn’t have ATs or AUs attached to them. Canonically, no one knows the existence of ADs or Miniverses, except of maybe Ink? Possibly Error?
A bit more info: As I said before I don’t like the idea of multiple multiverses and instead think we should adopt to using the term and idea of dimensions instead, also worlds that do fusions or worlds that are like Undertoad or Toontale aren’t cannon in my Dimension but who’s to say if there not in a different Dimension? And if that’s the case then a VARY powerful traveler or someone who just so happens to be in the right place at the right time who can also pass the Firewall could technically travel to worlds outside of the Undertale multiverse entirely. And THATS where you’d get other multiverses >:]
