And there's so much going on with Armand's relationships with Daniel, Marius, Lestat — and even Pandora and Bianca! I cry!!!!!!

I didn't get to read/reread a lot of fic this week (I usually like to do a quick reread if I haven't read it in a while) so it's only two for today but to be fair, there's two parts to the Knight of Swords series and you should read them BOTH so ykw I'm counting it as three! ♥️

Five Hargreeves had always been the ‘loner’ type. Friends weren’t really his thing. But that was according to his siblings.

Unbeknownst to them, he had one friend. Just the one. They would send letters to one another everyday, finding out anything and everything about each-other. She was the one he would confide in, tell absolutely everything. She was the one person he trusted outside of the umbrella academy.

Estelle Pandora. Name just as beautiful as her, though he would never admit that.

She was the epiphany of perfection. Her hair was long, a deep brown with small streaks of chestnut and black. Her eyes. Oh how he loved her eyes. Though, again, he would never admit that. They were a bright purple, looking almost as regal as her. Her skin was a gorgeous tan, it glowed when the sun hit it, but he only got to see her from a distance.

He regretted it deeply, but they never talked in person. Their letters were the only thing connecting them to one another.

Estelle Pandora wasn’t the most friendliest of people. She never liked making friends. Five Hargreeves was the only exception to her ‘no friends’ rule. She thought highly of him, and he did her.

She thought he was amazing. Pure admiration is what she had for the uniform-clad boy. Though they were only 16, she knew he was wiser beyond his years. The way he formed sentences made her head spin, but she came back with the same amount of intelligence. It stunned Five every time.

Together their intelligence was unmatched.

But, then came the day when Five left and Estelle was left alone.

Sitting in her living room, the news came up and that’s when she found out that Five was gone. Yes, he had been talking about time travelling for while, but she thought she could atleast go with him. But he left her.

Anger was all she felt. Unbridled rage was all she felt for the next 17 years, but that quickly dulled over time. Even though the girl told herself she was angry, she still opened and closed her time pockets to read their letters, and then putting them right back when she started to feel any sort of sadness for her lost friend.

17 years. All 6205 days had passed by in a blur.

Estelle was different, yet she looked the same. It came with her ability. By opening her time pockets so much, she slowly plummeted into the wretched depths of her powers. She was now in a time pocket of her own, permanently looking like her 16 year old self. It was only a reminder of him, her lost friend. Five.

6205 days, it was all it took for her anger to simmer and for nothing to be in the place of what once was. She felt nothing. By feeling nothing, she could no longer miss him, but deep down she missed him dearly, he was her only friend after all.

Sunday. Her least favourite day.

It was now 2019, but to be specific, March 24th 2019. A regular Sunday in this already terrible year.

A thump. The small girl awoke. Rising from her bed, she made her way to her living room.

Eyes wide, heart beating. It was all coming back.

He was here.

Stalking forward, angered expression. The small side smile he always gave her was enough to set her off.

Smack!

Her palm made contact with his face. Nostrils flared, cheeks red, furrowed brows. Rage.

The familiar face held his cheek as he winced slightly at the pain.

The girl held out her hand, a baseball bat placing itself in her palm. She took a defensive stance, glaring at the intruder.

Five Hargreeves was back.

He thought their reunion was going to go a little differently than this. He understood how she felt, but he didn’t expect this to happen.

“What are you doing here?” Her words sunk in like venom, infecting every cell in his body. Remorse filled his heart as he looked at the girl he once loved, still loved.

He didn’t reply.

“You leave, out of nowhere, hurting not only me, but my entire existence. I trusted you.” Curses spilled from her mouth as she took one hand off of the bat, placing it on her forehead as a migraine was worming its way through.

“I can explain.” He simply spoke. She didn’t want short sentences, she wanted an apology. “I’m sorry for leaving, I had to. My father angered me, it was a very impulsive decision and I regret it everyday. Now if you could just take a seat and let me explain, I’ll tell you everything.”

A sigh made it’s way from the girls lips. “I don’t understand.” Her head was throbbing. “Why did you decided to only come back now?” Tears threatened to appear, but she blinked them back just as fast as they came.

“I couldn’t come back. I tried, desperately might I add. As I said, if you would just take a seat I will explain. Please.” His eyes pleaded with her and she finally gave in. “Fine.” She groaned, eyes rolling in annoyance. “But let me grab some tylenol first, my head is banging.” Quickly grabbing a pill, she swallowed it quickly, her legs carrying her back to the living room where Five had made himself comfortable on her recliner.

Grabbing a blanket, she sat down. “Okay… Where the fuck were you then?” Was the first think she said after placing her blanket over herself. “The future.” Raising one eyebrow to indicate to him to carry on, he continued. “An apocalyptic world was not what I expected, but it’s what I saw. I saw my whole family dead, they didn’t make it through whatever had happened. There was nothing left.” Shock. Her heart, head, ears, all started pulsing uncontrollably.

“So what you’re saying is that there’s an apocalypse due, and the only reason why you came back is to stop it, I’m assuming?” Assuming was a habit she had had since she was young, but her assumptions were always correct. “How much time do I… no, we have left?” Warmth filled his heart at her using the word ‘we’. Even though she looked angry, she wasn’t truly. She was just confused in this moment.

“8 days.” That was the kicker. “We’re all gonna be dead in 8 days? Jesus Christ, save me now.” 8 days. 8 days to save the world. 8 days to catch up on missed time. Impossible.

A thought creeped from the back of her mind and spewed out of her mouth. “It’s only just occurred to me that we’ve never spoken in person. This is our first face to face conversation. I definitely did not think it would go like… well, this.”

“I guess there’s a first time for everything.” The boy muttered, a thoughtful expression on his sculpted face. “Now, I’m only telling this because I trust you. Under no circumstances can you tell my family this unless I get them involved.” Nodding, she stood up.

“Well, I better get dressed then. If there’s a first time for everything, I guess this will be the first time I’m gonna help save the world.” The small side-smile was held on Five’s lips once again at her words. He knew he could count on her to help him, her intelligence matched his perfectly. He couldn’t think of anyone better to help him in this task.

“Wait!” Five called, the girl stopping immediately, turning around to face her once lost friend. “Yeah?” He stood, now standing face to face with her. “Why do you still look 16? I bet you already know why I look 16, but you… I don’t understand.” Estelle sighed, looking down at her hands.

“I have two powers.” She started, “One is telekinesis, you’ve seen that one before. Not very useful, pretty boring… but then there’s my reality manipulation. I can teleport, create and destroy objects and organisms, break the laws of time and space… my most used part of it is my time pockets. They can be created anywhere anytime. I keep all of our letters in them.”

She took a breath in, her heart clenching when she had to explain the next part. “When you left, I was angry. It was the only emotion I seemed to convey, it’s ridiculous now that I think about it. I used to open my time pockets to read your letters so much that I slowly placed myself into a time pocket. Now I’m stuck looking like a 16 year old.” Five’s eyes widened at her confession. She felt so much because of him leaving, did he really have that much of an effect on her?

“Did I really have that much of an effect on you?” The boy asked, an eyebrow raised. “I… yes. You were the only other person I could talk to about my love for maths, physics, especially books. And even music, I loved our talks about music.” She reminisced on their past together. “I know I never told you this, and it’s kind of embarrassing but- you were my only friend. If I’m brutally honest, I’m not sure if other kids my age would be up for talking about physics and time travel, but then there was you…”

Five smiled at the passion in her voice, the expression on her face. She was so perfect. “I could talk to you about everything. So, yes. When you left it had a massive effect on me since I had no other friends. I ended up just growing up lonely, minus interaction with my parents.” The sweater vest wearing boy felt guilt. He didn’t mean to leave her. It was something his naive self didn’t understand, but he’s learned and faced the consequences of his actions, now he’s ready to redeem himself.

“You told me I could come with you.” That was all it took for Five’s head to snap to the girl, he was truly guilty. “I- I’m sorry. It was a rash decision, I wasn’t meant to time travel then but my father had angered me to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore.” She wouldn’t look at him.

“Estelle.” He tried getting her attention but her eyes stayed glued to the ground. Sighing, he put a slender finger under her chin, lifting her gaze so her eyes looked into his. Her eyes had never looked so pretty until now. “I promise, I didn’t mean to time travel. I’m truly sorry for leaving, I am. I will do all i can to make it up to you.”

His hand moved to cup the side of her face. She didn’t back away. Instead, she leaned into his hand, her eyes not breaking away from his.

“I missed you so much.” She broke, the angry facade had fallen. She was now the same vulnerable, sensitive Estelle she was 17 years ago.

Estelle’s eyes widened as she felt the hand on her face move, arms hugged around her waist. “Five… I-” he tightened his grip around her, instantly shushing her. Tears filled her eyes and she finally let all the emotions she had felt over the past few years release.

They stood there, the boy in his uniform and the girl in her pyjamas. Old friends reunited after so long. Both of their feelings coming back twice as strong after being extinguished all those years ago.

Estelle and Five, inseparable.
