Jan Johansen's Eurovision story started with him losing track of an appointment and arriving at a studio to record a demo four and a half hours early. In the same studio songwriting legends Bobby Ljunggren and Håkan Almqvist were working on a Melodifestivalen entry for Christer Björkman, and asked a clueless Jan if he could help them with some singing. That song was to become Jan's breakthrough, a megahit and placing third in the Eurovision. On site in Dublin he still hadn't grasped his own status and went around and collected autographs from the other artists, and at one time during the week he ended up at the home of the mother of one of his idols. Since 1995, Jan has competed with several more songs in Melodifestivalen, among those the second-placed duet "Let Your Spirit Fly" which Jan later, unbeknownst to and unauthorized from songwriters Anders Dannvik and Ola Höglund, recorded together with Maltese Eurovision legend Chiara. Of course we get to listen to this version as well as several other demo-songs from Jan, and we also speak about various collaborations with artists such as Shirley Clamp, Pandora, Pernilla Wahlgren and Charlotte Perrelli.

«Vuelve conmigo» es una canción compuesta por José María Purón e interpretada en español por Anabel Conde. Fue elegida para representar a España en el Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión en 1995 que tuvo lugar el 13 de mayo de 1995 en el Point Theatre de Dublín, Irlanda, con Mary Kennedy de presentadora.

Esta canción fue la representación española en el Festival de Eurovisión 1995. La orquesta fue dirigida por Eduardo Leiva.

La canción fue interpretada novena en la noche del 13 de mayo de 1995, seguida por Turquía con Arzu Ece interpretando «Sev» y precedida por Austria con Stella Jones interpretando «Die Welt dreht sich verkehrt». Al final de las votaciones, la canción había recibido 119 puntos, quedando en 2º puesto de un total de 23, y dándole así a España su mejor posición desde el Festival de 1979, cuando Betty Missiego terminó como subcampeona con «Su canción».

Fue sucedida como representación española en el Festival de 1996 por Antonio Carbonell con «¡Ay, qué deseo!».

If Nocturne was a 21st century song SG would have never won, hell probably not even have qualified

And it probably wouldn’t have inspired other entries, most notably Fairytale which also ended up being a winning song

Just this year they were #24 on ESC250 and were the highest ranked 20th century song, beating out Waterloo

Eurovision Fact #711:

The Point Theatre has been the venue of the Eurovision Song Contest more than any other venue. The Irish theater has served as the venue a total of three times, first in 1994, then in 1995, and finally in 1997.

The theater was rebranded and underwent heavy renovations and remodeling in 2007, and is now known as the O2.

1995 Dublin - Number 1 - Alexandros Panayi - "Sti Fotia"

Alex Panayi. One of the contenders for the title of Mr. Eurovision. He's never won it (well he kind of has...), but since 1989 he's been trying. In 1995 he won the Cypriot selection for the first time. Not his first time there, he came third both in 1990 and 1993. He's also already appeared on a Eurovision stage twice, sing backing vocals for Cyprus's 1989 and 1991 entries. So at the fifth time of asking he's there with his five female backing singers doing it for Cyprus.

And what a song it is. More epic history. Στη φωτιά (Sti Fotia/In the Fire) is effectively a grand stage musical production number with a Greek flavour, about a man on a quest. A man who faces his challenges. A man who changes history. And he does it emerging from underneath a big sheet, accompanied by timpani and a gong, while wearing leather trousers. It was written by him with an emphasis on the drama which he delivers while commanding the Dublin stage.

How he only managed to come ninth I don't know - this is fantastic.

Now that Alex has had a taste of Eurovision he's going to find it hard to quit. He tries in again in 1999, gets back on the Eurovision stage in 2000, sings backing on a number of other songs in the early 2000s (including the winner in 2005), gets into stage direction and vocal training. This is the man who coached Helena Paparizou, Sergey Lazarev, Dihaj and DoReDos with their voices. His last involvement in Eurovision was in 2019. He's also voiced many Disney characters in Greek, produced his own musicals and worked for cancer and Alzheimer's charities in Cyprus.

Loredana Bertè & Mia Martini: 2 voices from Calabria, Italy

Italian sisters and singers Loredana Bertè and Mia Martini were born in Bagnara Calabra (Calabria, Italy), respectively in 1950 and 1947.

Mia Martini is considered, by many experts, one of the most important and expressive female voices of Italian music, characterised by her interpretative intensity and her soulful performance.

Her debut album, Oltre la collina is regarded as one of the best Italian albums made by a female artist. Hit songs like Piccolo uomo, Donna sola, Minuetto, made her one of the most popular artists of Italian music in the 1970s, both nationally and internationally. She is the only female artist to have won two Festivalbar consecutively, respectively in 1972 and in 1973.

In 1977, two important encounters occurred in Martini's life: the first with Charles Aznavour, with whom she began a musical collaboration, and the second with singer-songwriter Ivano Fossati, with whom she started an artistic and sentimental partnership.

In 1982, she sang E non finisce mica il cielo, written by Fossati, at Sanremo Music Festival, where she received the Critics Award, which was created specifically for her interpretation and which was named after her as "Mia Martini" Critics Awards from 1996, the year after her death.

In 1983, she was forced to leave the music industry and quit her career, as the music sector and colleagues considered her a person bringing bad luck and barred her from participating in any music and TV events, radio shows and concerts. This kept her away from the music scene for seven years. Only in 1989 was she able to reprise her career, when she returned to perform at Sanremo Music Festival, singing Almeno tu nell'universo, which brought her a new success.

She died on 12 May 1995 in Cardano al Campo at the age of 47.

After her death, the town Bagnara Calabra dedicated to the singer.

Loredana Bertè is a singer-songwriter and artist who has been in the music industry for over five decades. She has released twenty-one studio albums, five live albums, and three soundtracks throughout her career. In addition to her work as a solo artist, she has also collaborated with other renowned artists such as Gianna Nannini, Angelo Branduardi, and Claudio Baglioni.

In her long career, Bertè has experimented with different genres, from rock to reggae, from funk to pop. Bertè is known for the eccentric clothing she wears onstage for her performances.

One of her most popular song is E la luna bussò, an Italian reggae ballad which stayed on the Italian Singles Chart for 29 weeks.

In the 1980s Bertè achieved success in Italy with songs such as Maledetto Luna-Park, Una Sera d'Ottobre, and 'Ti Sento'. She also released two successful studio albums during this period: 'Loredana' (1985) and 'Loredana Berté' (1986). In 1988 she represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Non siamo soli'.

Bertè is one of Italy's most beloved singers and has achieved great success throughout her career. She has sold over 12 million records worldwide and continues to be an inspiration to generations of fans across the globe.
